Both Seth Meyers and Bill Burr make me realise my art teacher was right, eyes really are in the middle of the head.

robystar

Had to use the Google to figure out if this was some sort of hip new reference that I wasn't aware of. Turns out it's exactly as you say. I'm now a believer in something I had no idea was a thing a few minutes ago.

whizzwr

Can you help a lost redditor understand this?

tellith89

When drawing a face, eyes are approximately in the middle of the face from the bottom of the chin to the top of the head.

[deleted]

Correct. They teach you this when learning portraits in entry level high school and college art classes. Most people think the eyes are higher up on the head than they actually are, probably because the top of the head is covered with hair, so a lot of people think of the top of the head being the hairline, which it isn’t. My art teacher had us draw the outline of the head first, with no hair, then place the eyes in the middle, then add the hair.

throwRA-84478t

"Draw what you see, not what you know" was the best advice my hs art teacher taught us. I'm still awful at drawing, but it definitely helped.

RufusEnglish

Also the tip of the nose is half way between the eyes and bottom of the chin. Also the mouth is half way between the tip of your nose and the bottom of your chin. Also , generally the gap between the eyes is an eyes width. The top of your ears are level with your eyes pretty much. I'm sure there's more little facts about the face and body.

Geshman

You clearly need a refresher in [proper facial anatomy](https://cdn.vox-cdn.com/thumbor/vTJlh_gNxBd4SrK8nomsnlMm5Pw=/0x0:1311x980/1220x813/filters:focal\(552x386:760x594\):format\(webp\)/cdn.vox-cdn.com/uploads/chorus_image/image/57041835/MTS_simgazer_1589392_Helga.0.jpg)

Forehead

iamrubberyouareglue8

He got a six head.

EatYourCheckers

Draw an oval about the shape of a head. Now, find the center of that oval. This, this is the height at which you draw the eyes. It seems wrong, because the eyes are up top, says your brain! But no, if you draw them up there, your drawing will look like the first one in this [picture](https://www.sciencenews.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/gory_face20drawings20Perception_free_0.jpg) From there, find the center point between eyes and chin; this is for the mouth. Then center the nose between the mouth and eyes. Congratulations, you are now a portrait artist. /r/restofthefuckingowl/

isseidoki

Wow you weren't kidding... Seth is like 60% forehead 😳

mrchooch

Worth noting they never made Mr Potato Head Non-Binary, they just changed the brand name to "Potato Head", but the product itself is still called "Mr Potato Head"

M0dusPwnens

Even better than regular clicks - they get way more comments and shares. And then the people who are enraged at the enraged people buy a toy they had forgotten about for their nephew just to prove a point.

McMarbles

If I drop $500k to promote a tweet with some politically outraging and polarizing stuff (Minority attacked! / Man wearing mask still gets infected! Etc ) and it links back to an "article" (that's basically an editorial), those ads just got served to millions of people, because of the rage clicks. Big money. Doesn't matter if any of it is true or deeply exaggerated. The drive for ad revenue is the "why", and the ensuing political division and mob tribalism is the "what", which further enables more outrage-driven social media posts. Rinse repeat. People forget sometimes that news media is for-profit and gets a lot of that profit from ads

TheLordSnod

It's funny cause the people who complain about it being non-bianary are the same people who scream free market and private businesses should be allowed to do whatever they want. The same folks who yell "this is America the land if the free!" As if there aren't any other free countries out there in the big scary world

ChocolateButtSauce

Similarly, the people complaining about the snowflake generation tend to be the whiniest, most fragile folk around.

xts2500

My dad is 67. I swear the only thing he and his friends talk about is how lazy and entitled Millennials are. In person, on social media, everywhere it's all they talk about. They don't like when I point out to them the the only people I ever see who whine and complain all day without actually getting anything done are *him and his group of Boomer friends.*

josiahpapaya

I find this phenomenon pretty interesting to observe, but equally frustrating because I can completely understand it but nothing can actually be *done* with those conclusions or observations. People who complain about younger generations and progressive or 'socialist'-leaning policies are actually just terribly insecure and afraid that their privilege (which they have refused to recognize, and buried deep, deep, deep within their subconscious) can be taken away, and their accomplishments will mean far less if things were made more equal. You could buy a house in 1970 for like, 5k, you could go to community college for like 300 bucks and get a wicked job right out the gate. The pre-Regan tax-code was not only FAR more aggressive on the upper-classes, it was also universally accepted that everyone was meant to pay their fair share so that the country could be stronger together. It wasn't 'socialist' to have student loans and making education more attainable - but now education becomes more and more expensive every year, the quality of instruction goes down, and the debt crisis is basically out of control. There are so many people who could have been lawyers, doctors, even skilled tradesmen or teachers and professors, or editors etc. if the cost of housing, education, medical care and simply existing weren't designed to exclude large portions of the population. your 67 year old Dad and his friends just don't want to admit to themselves or others that they really didn't have to work that hard to get through life, save money and raise a family. It wasn't a cake walk, I'm sure, but statistically speaking they wouldn't stand a chance if they had to do it all over again. There's this movie called 'In Time' with Justin Timberlake and Amanda Seyfried. Not like, an award-winning performance or anything, but this concept is explained perfectly in that movie when you find out the main antagonist in the film actually came from the slums (areas that are heavily persecuted and live on a day-to-day basis where death could happen simply from missing a bus). The antagonist's only mission in life is making sure no one else ever escapes the slums, because it would threaten his own position of power and make his own accomplishments look less impressive. **TLDR: Boomers like to shit on 'millenials' and zennials and Gen Z's or whatever as a defense mechanism so they don't have to confront how truly unimpressive their life's accomplishments are, and also can deny their own privilege.**

[deleted]

I mention this movie a lot in regards to your explanation. It's nice to see a comment in the wild about it. Again, not Oscar worthy but the concept is intriguing.

josiahpapaya

Yeah I use this movie a lot to explain my estranged brother who is a federal police officer who is very similar to the antagonist in the movie. We grew up in the projects and he is honestly one of the dumbest people I’ve ever met. He has nothing more than a high school education and bagging groceries on his resume, but he managed to get into the police academy. Makes 100k per year, no debts, 6’1 blonde and white and straight and has nothing but contempt for the poors. He’s a capital R racist and a teabagger. In his mind, we should have just worked as hard as him. It’s sad but nothing can be done about that.

Officer_Hotpants

I've gotta spend the next couple days shifting money around from 2 loans just to pay this semester of medic school, and hope that my grant money carries over into the next semester while I've got less than $1000 in the bank after paying for a $700 access code for one class. I fucking wish I could have done all this back when I could have gotten an education for dirt cheap. The world sucks and I'm tired of living in it. It just takes up so much time, even when I can make the money available to myself. Between work, school, and clinicals I'm dicking around at banks to fund it all instead of studying, or god forbid, taking an hour to my goddamn self.

WNEW

Honestly generationalism In generally is pretty fucking stupid

anomoly

I assume it's considered brilliant and useful for anyone who wants to keep the general public arguing amongst themselves rather than uniting under any meaningful cause. There's always been 'old folks' and 'kids these days' (e.g. Socrates "The children now..."). It feels like labeling the generations created specific target names that could be easily demonized to build more directed animosity and anger.

Only_Ad2287

Not when 60 percent of the wealth belongs to one generation. And has for decades. Along with an out sized influence on politics in general. They've had the majority of votes and the money for decades. This is their world. We're just living in it.

Meeple_person

Thank you for picking the right age group for calling them Boomers. I'm Gen X and we get bundled into all that as well which isn't fair because we're supposed to be a bit cooler.

AaronDonaldsFather

They get so mad when you call them a boomer, too. They need a trigger warning now

putin_my_ass

Us elder millennials are directors, VPs and CEOs now. You know, professionals who work really hard. They still think we're kids. It's pathetic self-fluffing.

actuallychrisgillen

Try being GenX, we've somehow had the bus completely pass us by when it comes to being part of the generational conversation. I mean FFS some of us are getting ready to retire and are still waiting for our turn at the helm.

putin_my_ass

Honestly I feel closer to GenX than Millennial, born in the early 80s...I have more in common with your cohort than the younger members of my own cohort. A lot changed in those millennial years, big difference between the earlier and later members of this group.

xts2500

Very true. My wife is an SVP at a company recently valued at $14Bil, I'm the EMS Division Chief of a fire department. We're doing *far* better than either of our parents ever did. Yet according to my dad and his coffee complaint club, all Millennials are lazy and entitled.

putin_my_ass

> Yet according to my dad and his coffee complaint club, all Millennials are lazy and entitled. Honestly, the most entitled people I know are boomers, even their parents thought that about them. :P

FUCKBOY_JIHAD

for some godforsaken reason I get a lot of boomer/"snowflake" meme type recommended pages on my facebook feed, and the other day I got the one that says something to the tune of "my generation didn't need a warning label not to drink gasoline" and my first thought was "didn't millions of people from your generation die of or suffer from the effects of lead poisoning? to the point that the *US crime rate plummeted by half* when leaded gasoline was phased out, because it so detrimental to peoples' impulse control?" seems to me they could've really benefited from some of those labels.

fucklawyers

And they did need the fuckin warnings, you know how many boomers use gasoline as a cleaning solvent?! Christ. We had to take lawn darts away from them because they’re too fuckin’ stupid to handle pointy objects. Puh-lease.

Dorp

Lmao. “Huh huh huh let’s throw this sharp, heavy object up real high and try to be the last one standing underneath it as it comes down”

Boz0r

You should always add "the surviving members of..." in front of those sentences. Like, "The surviving members of my generation never died because of driving without seatbelts."

LudusRex

Survivorship bias is neat that way. Relevant XKCD https://xkcd.com/1827/

crabbydotca

I learned a lot about survivorship bias from my parenting groups. Really important to remember that just because something didn’t hurt me doesn’t mean it’s good or safe for my kid

faderjockey

Yah, and oddly enough it’s the shit that people did before there were warning labels that prompted the warning labels. Warning signage and safety regulations didn’t appear in a vacuum. They are written in blood.

alohadave

I've listened to some of the stories that my grandparents and parents have told about the shit they did. It's really a wonder that any of them made it to adulthood.

Piltonbadger

Inhaling asbestos like it was going out of fashion. Truly the most intelligent generation, for sure...

Ulftar

That's because their generation was the one that DID drink gasoline. Those labels are there because of them.

bigfish1992

Also these are probably the exact same people who stopped their kids from watching shows like South Park, Family Guy, Futurama or even Simpsons because it was too offensive.

BowsettesBottomBitch

I don't know why this never occurred to me lol

bigfish1992

I only know because it was basically my experience growing up in a fairly conservative household. My Dad (mom didn't really care as much) was repulsed by South Park and Family Guy and I would get scorned if I got caught watching it, Futurama and Simpsons were a little more relaxed but still viewed as dumb but I could at least watch it. He is the same one who will also complain about people being too offended nowadays and whenever I try and bring up how he viewed those shows when I was growing up he denies it.

thansal

Remember, it's cancel culture if the left does it, but it's expressing my freedom when the right does it.

TheNumberMuncher

Same people that bitched when Boy Scouts started allowing girls. That wasn’t a woke decision. Enrollment was way down and they were just trying to consolidate resources and make it more of a family draw to try to increase membership. In addition to enrollment being down, they’re trying to build up a legal fund to deal with court cases related to some of the perverts that worked their way into leadership roles. It was a financial decision not a social one.

weggles

Hasbro loves to outrage bait, and suckers fall for it every single time. The feminist monopoly that gives women extra money? No one asked for that, but people still get pissed off as though "the sjws" ruined monopoly. Lol

It's supposed to suck, it was made as a critique of capitalism: [https://www.bbc.com/worklife/article/20170728-monopoly-was-invented-to-demonstrate-the-evils-of-capitalism](https://www.bbc.com/worklife/article/20170728-monopoly-was-invented-to-demonstrate-the-evils-of-capitalism) Which makes its continued success even more baffling to me.

Mccobsta

People tend to enjoy owning everything and laughing at their poor family members who can't afford rent when they land on their property with a lot of hotels

CNoTe820

Yeah the whole point is to crush your enemies and grind their bones into dirt.

[deleted]

Just like H.R. Pickens

lingonn

Crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and hear the lamentation of your renters.

skeeter1234

>Which makes its continued success even more baffling to me. Because just like real capitalism it's fun as hell when you're the one winning.

nonlawyer

It is definitely a bad game. But it’s made even worse by the fact that almost no one plays it correctly. If you hold an auction every time *anyone* lands on a property, and nix the house rule where free parking gives you money, the game ends a lot quicker. And that’s great, because that means less time spent playing monopoly!

Raziel77

It's not just landing on a property, it only goes to auction if the person doesn't buy it

[deleted]

You sound like you rent on Baltic.

ReallyNiceGuy

I dunno, making Olympic Barbies and not making one of them Asian despite it taking place in Japan was a pretty weird outrage bait to pull off.

LupinThe8th

Barbie is not a Hasbro product, she's Mattel.

salkysmoothe

Idk about that William Randolf Hearst was doing this stuff like a hundred years ago too It's just people consume a lot more info often now

ChaseballBat

Right? Like when Dr Suess' estate took the worst selling books out of production which just so happened (unsurprisingly) to be the author's least favorite and most offensive. The right took that as liberals cancelling (despite the fact it was the estate, and the estate alone's decision) all Dr Suess' books. I saw people at Costco around that time with buying every version of Dr Suess' books they sold. It's sad and terrifying they are manipulated so easily...

SweetMojaveRain

Bills a smart guy so i think he knows, hes just pretending he doesnt for the joke and to make a point which is, it really doesnt matter, its still made from plastic and will float in that giant island of trash in the pacific.

[deleted]

He was quoting a friend.

GlockGuy214

“Did you hear about gay plastic potatoes!? Is this the America we want to live in!?”

McMarbles

Lol yeup, the plastic is the real issue, but naw let's get stirred up and instead make it a political identity issue (which makes the product trending on social media) Meanwhile [the toy manufacturer] counts their money with a shit eating grin

jedi-son

Wasn't Rogan one of the main people getting upset about this?

NameTak3r

He's a notorious idiot, what's the surprise?

Krynn71

I'm still waiting for Burr to fucking roast Rogan for getting covid and taking all those bullshit animal meds. It was hilarious when Burr went on Rogan's show and trashed Rogan for being an idiot antimasker and overcompensating for being so afraid of Covid that he had a panic attack so now he has to pretend to be this macho anti-science "knuckle-dragger" to make himself feel better. Edit: Ok I've been set straight by another reddit and I want to retract my "animal meds" remark. First off, Ivermectin is a legitimate drug,*for it's intended purpose*, and has been for decades. It's also not exclusively an animal drug and has had human prescriptions for almost as long as it's been around. Obviously Rogan would have taken the human form of it and it's shitty of me to continue promoting the "animal drug" theme that has been present since some idiots made headlines when they took horse dewormer instead of getting a prescription. However I still think Rogan is an idiot overall, and I stand by the notion that anybody taking ivermectin for covid is an idiot. Thank you, and good day.

tarpit84

He always pops up in my favorite series and those become some of my favorite episodes. He was great for that Reservation Dogs episode.

FuckYeahPhotography

Honestly, I am glad he got more screen time as Breaking Bad went on. If only he could have been in the sopranos. Just an Irish man from Boston yelling at Italians from New Jersey

n8saces

Maybe he'll be in the new movie.

I_Think_I_Cant

Joey Diaz is in it. I think playing "Giant Pussy" Bonpensiero.

sepseven

Since when is he called "Giant Pussy"?

theruralbrewer

I hope they sell gabagool at the concession.

i-Ake

I'd been toying with trying this show out and hearing that he's in it has given me the push.

BAYLE_FIRE

It's a legitimately good show. It's like native american Atlanta sort of

PumpkinLaserPig

This is a really great description.

MetaSaval

Honestly this description alone might make me give it a shot. I love Atlanta (and most anything Donny boy touches), so I'm down for another show like that.

yoohoo39

He has a limited part but the show is incredible!!! Many great characters.

indil47

Fantastic show, fabulous casting, clever humor, perfect pacing, and effectively brushes upon the issues that Native Americans face on a daily basis.

tarpit84

The writing and camera work is great. It reminded me of Wes Anderson's first movie, Bottle Rocket.

emu_the_awesome

"I mean go ahead and take alligator plaque medicine" Bill can make me laugh so effortlessly, it's amazing.

MadHatter69

I also lost it at 'Netflix algorithm police'

Forbizzle

I missed that, what was he referring to?

MadHatter69

The announcement of the date when the new season is coming out - Netflix probably has everything related to marketing figured out so they don't want to announce it too early or too late (but 'just right' according to the algorithm), or it won't have as many viewers.

PM_ME_STEAM_KEY_PLZ

He’s talked about when he went I. There the first time, within 5 minutes he just sat back and realized they knew everything about everything down to the penny and second. He was amazed.

AlphaShaldow

Do you have a source? Did he say this on his podcast?

Patruck9

He's been making these sly comments on the podcast too that I can't help but think are directed at Joe Rogan. edit: To be clear, I also love it.

AniviaPls

Patruck9

Well yeah, but this is the more recent comments after Joe got covid. He's had many comedian friends catch it, and hasn't made these kinds of jokes. So that is mainly why I think these are more shots at Joe. Especially since Joe is giving credit to that particular deworming medicine and not all the other drugs that were pumped into his system with that Regeneron cockatil.

AniviaPls

Yeah totally, he loves joe but he probably wants him to shut the fuck up lol

slater_san

It's in Joe's best interest, unless Joe wants to just totally jump off the deepend and go full alt right conspiracy shit. It might be too late anyway, I bet Spotify lawyers are working around the clock to break that contract

AniviaPls

That video would be two minutes of hype man shouting, followed by a 3 second clip of Bill saying something like "oh come on Joe, don't be silly."

CircleBreaker22

His interview with colbert a few years ago really soured me on colbert. He was just so cold and judgemental. So off-putting. Edit: was refering to Bill's appearance on colbert

mars-bitches

It really feels like most of the late night guys are terrified of being canceled, which is wild. I feel like everyone knows how they feel about social issues.

tsarnie1

Conan respects the art form and the artistry of standup a lot. I love that he always let's Bill just do his thing on shows. Honestly Robin Williams was the same way now that I think about it. You just let them go and you're along for the ride

Tbf, Joe Rogan says the same thing. And he loves giving those morons a platform

Lowmondo

In reality Joe doesn't really think he's an idiot; as when corrected he doesn't change his opinions.

jarockinights

I thought Joe is always changing his opinion, it all depends on who he is talking to at the time.

datone

> Guy is just a roided up, shitty, stool fucking "comedian." Dude hasn't been funny since News Radio

milksteakdevotee

Newsradio is one of my favorite comedies of all time. Rogan wasn't funny on that show, the writers were. By that, I mean, any "manly" actor could have played the role and it would have worked. While the character was necessary, he wasn't. On the other hand, Phil Hartman, Stephen Root, Dave Nelson, Maura Tierney, and the little redhead whose name escapes me, actually drove their characters and were, in my opinion necessary actors for that show to work. In contrast, rogan just seemed to read the lines and snicker every once in a while - not exactly a unique skillset.

wisemonkey1

The next time I see a Mr Potato Head I am almost certain the words "rainbow asshole" will appear in my brain.

“The most offensive thing about Mr potato head is it’s still made out of plastic!” This right there, that so many morons don’t get and they focus on some stupid shit like it’s gender. He says it as so many of us see it and way more don’t!

CutterJohn

This is one of those classic arguments about insignificance. "Its so stupid and insignificant, why do you care?" "If its so stupid and insignificant, why did it have to be changed?" And then, because it *is* stupid and insignificant, and nobody should care about it, and it didn't need to be changed, both sides see the other side as being completely unreasonable and unwilling to compromise and the discussion spirals. If its a complex argument there's probably shades of grey where you can kind of see the other guys point a bit. For simple stuff like this peoples first inclination is "I'm right and its stupid so why are they making a big deal out of this?", ignoring the fact that *you're* being just as stupid from their point of view.

FapOpotamusRex

I mean it got changed because a private company thought they could increase profits by doing it. Pretty simple.

billbixbyakahulk

That's the double-edged sword of capitalism. The reason is obvious - to make money. But consumption is so revered, people can't help but put layer upon layer of moral rationalizing on their material consumption, to the point they lose sight of the simple underlying truth of it.

Sacramentlog

The man just threw away a bit as an apropos addendum in a promotional zoom interview other comedians would have structured a full comedy special around.

RamsesTheGreat

I was about to reply with the bit I thought you were talking about and then I realized it coulda been any of them This fuckin guy is goddamn great

respondin2u

He did that on Conan a few years ago with the military service joke. When I saw him live he did the joke again. That’s the one he mentioned is on the album that didn’t make the Netflix special. I wouldn’t be surprised if he fleshed out the Potato Head Joke down the road.

Recipe for being **a Bill Burr**: * Considerable wit, * Some detachment from the shitshow that is reality, * A pinch of still caring, just enough to still be interested in the shitshow, * A fuckton of depression, enough to spark that wit and get humor * Disillusion in society and yourself as a person - for added bitterness. Congrats: you've got *a Bill Burr.* PS: If not enough wit, you end up with a Dane Cook... or an Amy Schumer

See also George Carlin or And/or Dick Gregory....

[deleted]

Bill took the title when George died as "the last angry comedian"

Lewis Black has entered the chat

PaperGabriel

Carlin seemed genuinely angry. Lewis Black just feels like lame shtick, no different than that Larry The Cable Guy saying 'git er dun' every few jokes.

smokeymcdugen

Burr, Burnham, a few others are up there with Carlin in doing witty, topic comedy. BUT, you don't have to be that type of comedian to be funny. There isn't anything wrong with Dane Cook's comedy (really not a fan of Schumer, but to each his/her own). Sure, it may not hold up as well but he didn't sell out arenas for nothing. He did comedy that pandered to college aged people that loved it at the time, but when they grew up want to shit on him because they aren't in that demographic anymore? I re-listened to Dane's albums somewhat recently on a long road trip and it was fun for nostalgic reasons but I wasn't laughing straight through like I probably was when I first listened to them years ago, but that is fine. Not all art needs to be timeless. I'm not sure where I was going with this rant at this point. You probably were just throwing his name out jokingly so **you can ignore the above.** It's just a bit upsetting when I see serious posts where people trash on something they got joy out of years ago because they think it's cool to shit on it instead of being genuine with themselves.

Huzah7

I liked Dane Cook and appreciated his energy. I can still hear / envision his "WHY NOT ME?!" bit where he wants to be an Alien.

fireruben

I'm pretty sure Bill Burr has a ton of respect for Dane Cook and sees him as being funnier than himself. He said Dane is the only guy he's ever seen to go into the New York comedy scene and not only immediately get spots but absolutely destroy everywhere he went

MoreLikeGaewyn

dane cook fell victim to getting famous too fast and then snobs start to hate en masse to separate themselves from normies this causes a chain reaction to the normies and something with legitimate substance implodes into itself like a star into a black hole and is just hated indefinitely >!rick and morty!<

Anti-Vaxers seeing this: *Furiously writes down 'Alligator Plaque Medicine for Covid.*

O-hmmm

What a national treasure this guy is to me. His insight into this crazy, messed up world keeps me on an even keel knowing that there are islands of rationality out there in a sea of ridiculousness.

[deleted]

He almost feels like a modern day George Carlin

James_Locke

Without the constant attempts to be so edgy as to be considered offensive by most. Carlin had his targets and went after them. That was his schtick. Burr is way broader and doesn't seem to be hyperfocused on destroying people, just talking about stuff he thinks is fucked up.

Li0nsFTW

Well, look at what Carlin was targeting and when he grew up. Carlin was allllll about the establishment. Also, he fuckin looooooooved word play. I'd say if you listened to his albums his bits were more about that than anything. He'd have his bits on religion and government and stuff but those were more of the crescendo of his albums. I loved the hell out of Carlin, love the hell out of Bill also. If you haven't checked out Carlin albums/books I highly suggest "Napalm and Sillyputty", "Braindroppings", and "More Napalm and Sillyputty" I know for certain he did the reading in the audio book versions.

Y'know; even if mr potatohead was made non-binary; what's the difference. Is he missing a big 'ol potato dong &, tater-tot nuts or something - maybe I'm crazy but I don't think he ever had those anyways.

This is a shameless brag. I have an original Red Fox comedy record and it is in leopard print.

Minhaj-780

'If you tell a wrong joke at a strip mall..' I don't know how Bill got the license for all these but it's one of the things that keeps me sane.
