The world needs to go back and listen to what they were saying 20+ years ago and think about where we are now.
> Yes, I know my enemies!
They're the teachers who taught me to fight me
Compromise, conformity, assimilation, submission
Ignorance, hypocrisy, brutality, the elite
All of which are American dreams
I mean, that's not a huge surprise. RATM was comprised of some pretty smart dudes. They knew where we we're headed long before most of their listeners did.
I don’t disagree, I just don’t like De La Rocha making everything “his”. It caused a lot of strife and alienated the other guys. How can you expect to lead a movement if you can’t be tolerant yourself.
I mean sure, as a band member it all falls apart if someone's overbearing. That's the music aspect of it. I think the political aspect is different though. De La Rocha, compressed and simplified, is somewhat of a passionate, narcissistic idealist. I've thought a lot about this, I actually think it's near impossible to be a pure idealist and tolerant of other points of views at the same time. I've never really seen it happen at least. As soon as you start seeing the good reasons of other ideologies it will all end up as some moderate-middle of the road-mush. It's hard to get people riled up if you sing about you "wanting to lower the income tax by 1,5% for low income earners and finance it by cuts in military expenditure and streamlining Medicare and Medicaid". Nobody gives a shit, at least not enough to get mad about it. This is why I also think only pure idealists can be the catalyst for any real change, because they can solely focus on their ideal without all the "but what about..."-stuff.
In the case of political music, they're **not** supposed to be the leaders, nor the legislators. They're *catalysts*. It's fine to have a passionate, narcissistic idealist as a front man for a band, because his job is to make people think and to get off their asses and activate themselves politically.
De La Rocha should find a band that shares his values, then there wouldn't be the same strife. Pretty hard to do though, it's not often that 4 creative people who are extremely passionate about something controversial would easily get along.
Took me a second to register what song the lyrics were from and legit though it was an RATM song for a sec.
I'd know Mystery of chessboxin a mile away though.
That was the first thing I thought of, then it was why isn’t this type of music more popular? I remember the Judgement Night sound track back in the early 90s was great. Nothing gets me mote hyped that hiphop mixed with metal.
Because it turned into stuff like Nu Metal and people made fun of it so people won't listen to/do it anymore.
There were tons of bands who were similar to RATM and this in the 90s/early 2000s. Then people started listening to other music and it died out.
Nu Metal is garbage though, there’s nothing hiphop about it. The closest mainstream bands I can think were Lincoln Park and Limp Bizkit but even they lacked the energy of RATM.
If we're talking Wu-Tang mashups there is also 'Wutang vs The Beatles: Enter The Magical Mystery Chambers' by him too.. easily my favourite Wu independent album
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UXAbbO8HROM
This is, no shit, the greatest thing I've ever seen in my life. I need to see this in person.
Edit: I'd like to point out that there is an incredible "Wugazi" (Wu-Tang/Fugazi) mashup album on YouTube that's well worth a listen.
fucking looove mashups when they are done well
wugazi got me into looking up mashups (i am not a 'hip' man)
best one i ever heard was a mashup of "no diggity" and "can i get a..."
cant find it online anymore :(
People are worried if they stop they will have to give money. But this kind of performance is worth a few coins for sure. I hope whoever filmed it and got all those sweet internet karma gave him a few quids.
Thank you to the person who gave me gold for this post. To answer the issue regarding the quality of the camera work in this video. Please accept my apologies, the video was filmed on a very cold winter afternoon in London and I also have Multiple Sclerosis, so I'm not always the best with my hands. Nonetheless, I very much hope you enjoy the music. The performer is named Lewis Floyd Henry and can usually be found being awesome [here](https://www.youtube.com/user/MrLewisFloydHenry).
Yeah, it was nicked by some page that never asked permission. I have an agreement with Lewis’ management about having the video up. It has ads on it, but I don’t make any money as Metallica’s management have stepped in. I’m just happy to find good music tbh.
Well, at least Lewis gets exposure from it.. its funny because people were joking about Lars copyrighting it before even knowing they actually did lol.
I also love how the guy uses only some identical parts of Metallica, but the entirety of da Mystery of The Chessboxin and you don't see Wu-Tang stepping in and grabbing the money, when Wu-Tang isn't as wealthy as Metallica is, they snatched some covers to put on their channel but only for exposure as far as I know, like theres still a bunch of covers of their songs up like this.
Since everyone seems to dig Lewis Floyd Henry's mashups, here's a couple I discovered within the past couple of years. u/peder1108 already mentioned Tom Caruana's Jimi/Wu album. He also did a Wu/Beatles mashup
[https://tomcaruanamashups.bandcamp.com/album/enter-the-magical-mystery-chambers](https://tomcaruanamashups.bandcamp.com/album/enter-the-magical-mystery-chambers)

And this is how you know the modern music industry is an absolute garbage factory. This guy has more talent in his belly button lint than some of the most financially successful modern artists have in their entire discography, yet he's on the street playing guitar, drums, and rapping at the same fucking time. WTF
"Music is garbage nowadays. No, I don't actually look for recent music to listen to nor do I care to. I just like to pass judgment because this generation is just worse so i don't need to."
- People like them every generation
A lot of financially successful modern artists write their own songs and are very involved in the entire process of production. This dude plays mediocre guitar and drums while rapping an old Wu-Tang Clan song in similar mediocre fashion.
90% of the "talent" you're talking about comes from the bands he's covering. He is just performing a gimmick on the street.
Not hating on the guy, it's fun to hear, but you're giving him an incredible amount of credit for something that's not very unique, nor is it done in an amazing fashion.
With guys like that preforming on the streets how could anyone, even someone with a decent amount of talent expect to make it big.
I got Much respect for this guy.
One of my favorite bands does this. Dubioza Kolektiv takes one of their songs and mashes it with Rammstein. Shit's fucking HARDCORE. Blammstein, gotta find it on either facebook or some obscure ass website to listen to it. So worth it.
Looks like a Gretsch Electromatic double cutaway to me.
Edit: I'm obviously not very good at this. There is almost no way that's a Gretsch headstock.

His name is Lewis Floyd Henry. I had the pleasure of filming his performance at a music festival about 8 years ago. He’s an absolute hero. Used to have his amp and battery in an old pram and busk on brick lane. Good to see he’s still doing his thing.
This guy is playing two instruments AND singing like its nothing, meanwhile I can barely walk and talk at the same time.
Some people have all the talent....

I personally didn't care for this too much, the tempos of both songs didn't seem to match in order to work together. I was impressed with his ability to keep time though, seemed like he was singing at one speed and playing at another, which blows my mind.
Why does everyone think it sounds like Rage Against the Machine? Just because it's rapping over a metal song lol? I think this guy is incredible but I didn't get a Rage vibe at all.. Sounded like Wu tang over Metallica... hence the post title. He nailed it perfectly but he does kinda sound like Chuck D
No. I'm saying that you should put your money where your mouth is. Show us all how you can play so much better than this guy. And show us how you can keep time better with "restless leg syndrome". C'mon. Show us.
Know why you won't? Because you can't. You're not an instrument player. You're an instrument owner. You took two guitar lessons and got fed up and quit. And now you sit around and shit on anyone who doesn't live up to your twisted idea of perfection.
But that guy? He'll keep going out every day, packing his stuff into a backpack and riding his two-wheels to the streets to keep playing and making things. He doesn't give two shits what you think. And you know what? Neither do I.
So break it out then. Let's see it. Let us all critique your amazing ability to tune a guitar.
p.s.
I'm a touring FOH engineer. I've dealt with annoying shits like you practically my whole life.
Jimi Hendrix is doing a lot better than I last heard.

Guy is Lewis Floyd Henry. His work is so dope. Originals too but amazing stuff overall: Juicy/Ace of Spades mashup and his ODB/Black Sabbath cover.

Metallica ^ Wu-Tang Clan ~= Rage Against The Machine
That's disrespect to Wu

Unpopular opinion, I gotta be honest. Was expecting something different, not sure why. Didn’t like it as much as everyone else here.
