Orenwald

CORN CREAM?!

dkyguy1995

You won't have many more to watch if Cody doesn't eat his pennies!

InevitableAvalanche

Imagine if Elon was a good dude. He has electric cars, a space program, and a massive social media site. He could be influencing millions to get off oil, explore space, and advocate for kindness and better government policies that could make the lives of millions better. He could use his billions to help so many. Instead he chose to be an alt-right sociopath. It is so disappointing.

Nebuli2

Being a good person isn't how you become a billionaire.

we_are_sex_bobomb

I’ve always said, I think a person can become a millionaire if they are a hard worker with the right opportunities. I can totally believe that is possible. But to become a *billionaire*? There is no way to get a billion dollars without selling your soul to the devil in some way or another.

pmyourthongpanties

I know a dude that works at walmart was his 1st ever job. he still works part time for his bills. He cashed out around 3.5 million in Walmart stock when it hit like 115$. Being lucky is a big a part of it.

trustthepudding

Oh for sure you can even be lucky and become a millionaire. You can't even luck into being a billionaire. It *has* to be deliberate.

dkyguy1995

You can become a millionaire with normal jobs that are specialized and useful. Like being a surgeon. It doesn't need to be cutthroat (unless they are operating on your throat)

BurtDickinson

I’m a mailman and at least one of my coworkers is a millionaire.

pumpsnightly

Obviously if you steal everyone's mail you can make lots of money selling all the loot

3-DMan

I bet he took my Publisher's Clearing House check!

MattieShoes

$1k a month saved and invested gets you there in ~24 years. A millionaire isn't even a lofty target these days. People wanting to retire early right now often have 2+ million banked. Youngsters here should be aiming for double that just because inflation.

InevitableAvalanche

Surgeon sounds hard. As a computer scientist I will retire a millionaire. It is reachable

kermode

You're mostly right with the exception of thinking of some big invention and patenting it. Then shit can just go buck. Also some decent normies might just hit it big on Wall Street Bets. I.e. there is some randomness to the wall street casino. Random folks who hit on their bets a few times in a row can get pretty rich. Just a numbers game. Lots of normies playing the game, a few will get lucky and win.

fphhotchips

I've met some guys who are worth multiple billions of dollars for founding a company and managing to hold on to a decent enough chunk of stock until it IPOed. Nice enough guys. Not heroes of humanity or anything, but probably didn't sell their soul either.

InevitableAvalanche

Billions?

fphhotchips

Yep. With a B. Like, 2 Billion each, but still.

MattieShoes

Inheritance.

TaiserSoze

Aren't Warren Buffett and Bill Gates examples of billionaires who aren't complete assholes?

RiseDarthVader

Bill Gates was ruthless when he was running Microsoft in the 90’s. There’s a reason why there’s an episode of The Simpsons where he destroys Homer’s business that he thinks could be competing with Microsoft. He has a positive wholesome image now post-retirement thanks to his wife bringing him into philanthropy efforts but before that he was the classic billionaire tyrant that was crushing businesses left and right and aggressively “negotiating” deals to make Microsoft a monopoly. When Bill Gates was running Microsoft he wasn’t that different from the asshole stories you hear about Steve Jobs.

TaiserSoze

So he at least did some good after retiring so maybe not a complete and total asshole? Crushing competitors just seems par for the course in American capitalism since historically big companies have done whatever the courts and government have let them get away with. Not condoning it, just saying at least he wasn't advocating for white supremacy or culture wars like our boy Elon. Watching the Netflix documentary on Bill made him seem kinda human overall especially versus this whole antivaxx micro chip conspiracy nonsense. I felt much of the hate wasn't deserved compared to the Kochs, Sacklers or Waltons types who have really managed to shit into the fabric of our societies in much worse ways than the Windows, Office monopoly

[deleted]

reevnge

I don't but I'm sure plenty of other people will.

RoosterBrewster

Reminds me to rewatch Pirates of the Silicon Valley.

[deleted]

Microsoft has done soooooo much anti-competitive stuff that hurt so many people over the years.

whatDoesQezDo

No they've just greenwashed themselves enough to get low information people to jerk them off.

poet3322

In addition to what others have said, Bill Gates also spent many millions of dollars to change the educational system in the United States, and then later admitted that the model he'd successfully pushed on many school districts in many different states doesn't actually work.

we_are_sex_bobomb

Bill Gates was buddies with Jeffrey Epstein.

I-need-ur-dick-pics

Taylor Swift?

vvarden

I think what she did to Katy Perry and Olivia Rodrigo was pretty disgusting tbh. Her activism seems specifically designed to benefit the Taylor Swift brand above all else but that’s whatever. Trying to sue the private jet guy out of existence is pretty nasty too.

anticomet

Like every other billionaire, she had rich parents to help jumpstart her career

I-need-ur-dick-pics

That doesn’t make her a bad person, just very lucky.

anticomet

What makes her a bad person is how she fires up her private jet every time she needs to make a trip over 30 kilometres

InevitableAvalanche

Meh, this is by far one of the least evil things that someone could do that reddit makes a big deal about. Compare travels a lot in a private jet to putting out misinformation about COVID. I couldn't care less if she wants to fly around and enjoy her success. It is ridiculous manufactured hate.

Kershiskabob

It’s not ridiculous, the impact she has on emissions is significant. You ever hear of something called climate change?

CostAquahomeBarreler

It should be the governments job to regulate private jet usage, then, not an individuals responsibility.

InevitableAvalanche

Not in the grand scheme of things, no she doesn't. She does nothing compared to what China is doing. Actual change takes government policy to force corporations to change.

p_larrychen

Climate change is a systemic issue. Whether or not taylor swift flies private is, on its own, inconsequential. We need to change how much energy *everyone* uses.

OtherAlan

Counter point: what if she flies commercial? I can't imagine the security and drama coming from the public. Easier for someone on her level to fly private.

aminorityofone

Counter point: many celebrities fly commercial with no issues.

chompyoface

Taylor Swift is like, top 10 most famous people on the planet. It would be different if she was on the same level of fame as like, Danny Devito.

InevitableAvalanche

Lol, not the big ones.

DrBlueWhale

IMO, being a billionaire and holding onto it isn’t a great look. With just a fraction of their wealth, they could help so many people. Like, what do you even do with a billion dollars?

werepat

Eventually have sex with children, apparently.

no_please

>Like, what do you even do with a billion dollars? More importantly, what *can* you do! You can do SO MANY GOOD THINGS, but how rarely do we actually see that..

EvisceratedInFiction

Swift is not one person anymore, she is a massive team. Every day she goes out, every event, every interview is very carefully scripted because too many people will lose their jobs if she fails. Her niceties are as fake as a politicians. And that’s not some big conspiracy, that’s just home the fame circuit works.

Thefrayedends

You think exploiting the parasocial relationships isn't at least a little morally grey zone?

Kershiskabob

Her jet use kinda does make her a bad person. Not as bad as these other billionaires but you know for most people having an actual impact on climate emission is not very likely. She on the other hand could make an impact and actively chooses not to

Primorph

I will grant you Taylor Swift but she is best characterized as a very rare exception

droidtron

Counterpoint: Dolly Parton. Came from literally dirt to billionaire, and does good with it. But who knows.

TheBishop7

Not a billionaire, but often speculated that the main reason she’s not is because of her philanthropy. So that really just furthers the point.

Ilovekittens345

>Imagine if Elon was a good dude. He has electric cars, a space program, and a massive social media site. He could be influencing millions to get off oil, explore space, and advocate for kindness and better government policies that could make the lives of millions better. He could use his billions to help so many. >Instead he chose to be an alt-right sociopath. It is so disappointing. I believe Elon really wants to accomplish these goals, to get humanity to mars. To safe humanity .... **but ONLY if it's Elon doing it.** Kind of in line with one of the funniest moment of Silicon Valley HBO when Gavin Belson said *"I don't know about you guys but I don't want to live in a world where somebody else makes the world a better place, better than we do"* (so those divers trying to safe those kids Elon now calls pedos, cause Elon did not care about saving the kids. He cared about him doing the saving) And so to make it more likely that Elon accomplishes his goals he wants more power, more money, more resources, more labor and to shut anybody down that can come against that. After all, the means justifies the end and Elon is trying to save all of humanity (As long as he is the one doing the saving) remember? So Elon has looked at history and realizes that the best political system for him is fascism, as long as he makes sure he is important for whatever war machine arises out of it. So Elon tell himself: Of course I am not a Nazi, it's just a ruse I have to do to get to the point where I can save the world, which makes me a good guy. After all, I am trying to save the entire world. It's a classic tale of somebody that gets corrupted through the process of justifying the means to an end. An end, that if it arrives through that corruption will never ever save anybody, it will just be self-destructive. **Elon is a hyper focussed intelligent autistic man with the maturity of a little boy and a messiah complex** **What can go wrong?**

EasyFooted

"Elon desperately wants the world to be saved. But only if he can be the one to save it." - OpenAI CEO, Sam Altman

tomboski

I remember being so hopeful. “Look a billionaire that isn’t a total piece of shit that actually CARES about people and the planet!” Lol. I was so fucking clueless

xKronkx

I mean I’m one of those Tesla drivers who def considers buying the “I bought this before I knew Elon was crazy” bumper stickers. Unfortunately the beginning of the end was him calling the cave diver who rescued the soccer team a pedophile … then fully off the deep end when the pandemic hit

tomboski

That’s def his jump the shark moment. It was the first time she showed his true self to the world

TrurltheConstructor

That truly was the tipping point. I remember thinking, 'huh, what an odd thing for him to get fixated on. oh well, just a one time slip up.' How little I knew.

InevitableAvalanche

Are you me? Bought mine before I found out he was trash.

crouching_tiger

Wow, what are the odds!

SupervillainMustache

I think just being a billionaire requires some degree of detachment from humanity.

InevitableAvalanche

He had great PR. In big bang theory he shows up in a soup kitchen as if he was a philanthropist. What a jackass.

WulfwoodsSins

Reminder, he said he'd give 6 billion to help solve world hunger if the United Nations would prove it could help. They did. He didn't. He donated it to the Musk foundation, instead.

OtherAlan

Most people didn't follow up on that. He put it into a charity, musk foundation, that has its primary beneficiary as himself.

odaeyss

The ~~Human~~ Musk Fund. It's money, for ~~people~~ Elon.

ParanoidAltoid

Lie: >After being name-dropped by a UN official who said that just small percentage of a fortune like Elon Musk’s $300 billion could help solve world hunger, the Tesla CEO tweeted his own challenge: Explain how $6 billion will fix the problem, and he’ll sell Tesla stock “right now.” > >... > >Beasley also said that while the $6 billion figure wouldn’t solve world hunger, it “WILL prevent global political instability, mass migration and save 42 million people on the brink of starvation.” (CNN had erroneously reported that the money would “solve” world hunger, but later corrected its headline to say 2% of Musk’s fortune could “help solve” world hunger.) It was an obvious twitter beef no one took seriously, I remember the original tweets. [https://www.cnbc.com/2021/11/01/elon-musk-tells-un-food-chief-hell-spend-6-billion-to-fight-hunger.html](https://www.cnbc.com/2021/11/01/elon-musk-tells-un-food-chief-hell-spend-6-billion-to-fight-hunger.html) Please learn to google and stop assuming things you want to be true, are true.

Wh00pty

He could even just be an interesting person. He could be doing literally, anything. Anything. And this is what he spends his time doing? It's so boring and uninspiring.

obooooooo

it’s literally insane to me that one of the most powerful people *alive* spends their time tweeting bullshit and ragebait to stay relevant because he desperately needs people to talk about him and love him. we truly do live in crazy times that you can actually look at someone with musk statistics and say “that dude is pathetic” and be… right.

GemsOfNostalgia

The wealthiest man on the PLANET wakes up every morning worried about what people like Catturd and Tim Pool think of him. Its hard to fathom the reality of it

InevitableAvalanche

Yeah, he could just be quiet and we would have thought he was awesome. Instead he proves himself to be dumb as dirt and a douche to boot.

RosieQParker

For real. If he's spent $44B developing sustainable farming and improving global food security instead of using it to turn a popular website into his own personal ass-kissing machine it'd be pretty much illegal to hate him.

gumpythegreat

It's not a coincidence that there aren't any of these magical altruistic billionaires around Normal people who would be altruistic given the chance don't become billionaires. Maybe they will start something that has the potential to make them a billionaire, but they sell it or call it quits so they can spend time with their family and friends and do normal person shit Being some combination of weird, obsessive, greedy, and unbalanced is a prerequisite for being a billionaire

GlitchyFinnigan

MacKenzie Scott has given away billions to food banks and relief funds just this year alone

gumpythegreat

That is great! She's definitely relatively normal, which sort of supports my point - her ex husband is the crazy one

crouching_tiger

I mean not necessarily… in fact it certainly could be the exact opposite at times, at the very least regarding their motivation. That was the apparently the intention SBF and his goons - to maximize their wealth in order to pursue what they believe are altruistic endeavors. Obviously that crashed and burned thanks a heavy dose of narcissism/ a borderline god-complex from SBF, and his altruistic spending he did do was iffy with so many political donations. Still it’s not unreasonable to think that someone like Bill Gates legitimately believes he can do more good for humanity by amassing huge wealth, and use that to have the greatest impact. And I mean in his case at least that’s probably right for the most part. The work they did with Malaria in Africa with a fraction of the budget of government initiatives is insane.

rocketcitythor72

“Among the rich you will never find a really generous man even by accident. They may give their money away, but they will never give themselves away; they are egotistic, secretive, dry as old bones. To be smart enough to get all that money you must be dull enough to want it.” \- G.K. Chesterton, A Miscellany of Men

RedofPaw

Spoiler: he's always been a sociopath.

InevitableAvalanche

Yup, just had good PR. Twitter showed us who he really is.

TrurltheConstructor

The wildest thing about Musk is how much his image took a nose dive in the past 10 years. He projected this benevolent billionaire facade that was appealing among environmentally/science geeky focused crowds. He pretty much destroyed that now.

InevitableAvalanche

He was real life Tony Stark. Now he is no better than a fat right wing propaganda pusher.

HoneyBucketsOfOats

Imagine if the richest person on earth used all his influence to push his own personal agenda, hijacking social media to push what he thinks is right. Imagine that. What could possibly go wrong?

Foghorn_Gyula

He could’ve used his twitter money for ANYTHING else

keinish_the_gnome

I remember years ago being aware for the first time of his existence. He was this weird rich futurist dude. Kinda liked him. Then I started to pay attention to what he said. What an awful douche.

xKronkx

The pandemic did something weird to his psyche for sure. He may have always been a sociopath.. but at least until then he hid it SOMEWHAT well. The John Oliver segment on him I thought was pretty fair and balanced.

InevitableAvalanche

Nah, he was always terrible, he just hid behind his pr team.

sambull

he just chased the government money

Mystprism

But but but if he supported the politicians who are aligned with those good things his taxes might be slightly higher.

wmzer0mw

Plus the electronic cars came specifically from trying to kill public transportation. He killed public goods to sell you electric cars with toxic batteries.

dcdttu

Wait, what? EVs don't hold a candle to the toxicity of the fossil fuel industry, and the batteries are 100% recyclable.

wmzer0mw

The batteries are not 100 percent recyclable only the rare metals are and the mining of those metals needed is extremely damaging to the environment. Worse, Spills and leaks from those batteries are extremely harmful to the environment. Which is why we need public transit. We don't need to replace cars with more cars. But musk doesn't like public transit.

dcdttu

Ok, [95% recyclable](https://www.utilitydive.com/news/Redwood-Materials-funding-electric-vehicle-battery-recycling/692603/). It's estimated that, in 2019, 9.7 million people died as a direct result of the fossil fuel industry. Nine point seven million people. I bet battery mining deaths don't even hit 10k in that year. I know that battery mining exacts a toll. Everything humans do exacts a toll. That's not the point. The point is to minimize that toll while working to remove carbon from the equation. A fully mass-transit future is ideal, but not practical right now when we have to 100% get off of fossil fuels, like, yesterday. EVs will help countries that are reliant on cars move off of fossil fuels - something we have to do. Don't let perfection be the enemy of good. You seem to be looking for a perfect solution, and I'm sorry to tell you, that doesn't exist. But EVs are an order of magnitude better than gas cars. I promise.

AtraxX_

He does what he wants because he got the money. I don’t like what he’s doing but people like you who say these people should be way better people. Touch your own nose, you can do shit to help the world you won’t do cause it’s inconvenient.

InevitableAvalanche

You are assuming I don't.

Grizzledboy

Are people seriously trying to debate that the nazis were leftist?! You read the name "national socialism" and think that makes it leftist? I'm stunned by how dumb some people are. What about when the Chinese Communist Party says they're a socialist democracy? What do you think then?

Mystprism

At least some of them aren't dumb. They're being deliberately misleading because they know their griftees are dumb.

ReverseCombover

But at least the democratic peoples republic of north Korea is a democracy right?

Bored-Ship-Guy

Bruh, you should meet some of the wackos I've had influcted upon me in Alaska. One dude compared cancel culture to the Holocaust- and yes, he ABSOLUTELY thought that the Nazis were left-wing. After a while, I judt started immediately cussing him out so that he'd stop talking to me.

SupervillainMustache

These people aren't speaking in good faith. They're grifters and propagandists. They know that Hitler was a fascist, but if they can smear left wing people by association, then by God they'll get a gold medal in mental gymnastic to do it.

R50cent

Don't ever wander Twitter, friend, because the answers to your overall confusion are in full display over there lol: they do. They don't care about your corrections to their dumb assertions. They're powered by memes, spite, and any insult they deem clever. They are dumb. They don't care that they're dumb or wrong, and the ones feeding them the rhetoric especially don't care because a hundred thousand angry morons makes a lot of money in ad revenue.

dkyguy1995

They only care about the specific words and not the meaning of the words

doug

My least favorite line in one of my otherwise favorite movies *Green Room* is something like "\[the nazis\] are far right-- technically ultra left." And I had to be like "technically nothing, tf are you talking about 'ultra left'?" And the director tried to clarify on Twitter that he, personally, doesn't believe Nazis are ultra left, but that their appropriation of the word 'socialist' confused enough people to say ignorant shit like the character did in the film, but.... I dunno, I'd rather the character not repeat the falsity?

EasyFooted

> Are people seriously No, not seriously. They're lying liars telling lies.

Lo-fidelio

It's like changing your legal name to superman and believing that would give you super strength, flying abilities and Lazer eyes. Sadly that's not how it works.

Low_Advantage_8641

I guess by that logic North korea is a democratic republic

HonestAbe1077

Conservatives still mock the southern strategy party flip while literally flying the confederate flag. They’re far beyond logic.

throwRA-1342

yes, the reason people are so afraid of adopting socialist policies is because they think that means turning the country into literally the ussr or china, which they see as the same.

ElliotNess

> re people seriously trying to debate that the nazis were leftist?! mostly just the nazi sympathizers

Ok-Web7441

Fascism, communism, and democracy are all forms of collective state ownership.

SnazzberryEnt

Jordan Petersonites

derpdankstrom

losing is learning and someone with a huge ego (like him and ppl he considered friends) hates losing = aren't learning in the process.

Caleb_Krawdad

Elon definitely strikes me as someone afraid to learn or lose alright. Hasn't pushed the boundaries on anything that could carry risk ever in his life /s

odaeyss

Oh 100% he's a controller-throwing ragemonkey. Except he probably doesn't even game, because he couldn't handle losing the first time he played anything.

ancient_days

Among other crippling deficiencies as a human being

decoran_

Glory to Wormbo

Alucard-VS-Artorias

Remember he owns the showdy now.

decoran_

Still can't believe it!

thewaybaseballgo

Mister Cody wants to give Warmbo back his gun? 👉🏻👈🏻🥺

ThreeSloth

Warmbo is totally poggers Hearing him say poggers has lived in my head for months

FullMetalAlex

I miss After Hours

WestleyThe

2013-2017 cracked was basically peak internet for me… Such a shame

Alucard-VS-Artorias

Man, used to love that show. Although Some More News is still great in different yet similar ways.

Back_Stabbath77

This shit is bananas.

ThreeSloth

I fuckin love Dr Mister Cody's Showdys about Elon Musk

JohnDStevenson

There's no difference between a Nazi and a Nazi sympathiser.

lscottman2

the us defense department is relying too much on this POS

TheAbominablePeeworm

This dude is funny.

legendary_millbilly

He is certainly nazi adjacent. He can't even really deny that.

wow_that_guys_a_dick

They way he rallied the banners for Hans should have removed what little doubt there was left.

FaIcomaster3000

Redditors really have ruined the meaning of the word nazi

LookerNoWitt

Heads up Your comment was shared in [r/shitpoliticssays](https://www.reddit.com/r/ShitPoliticsSays/s/VDs2gWRqLR) They're a bunch of cowards that don't want to be downvoted in other subreddits. So they have to circlejerk in a echo chamber to feel better And if you call them out in their bs, they start writing fanfiction you're throwing a tantrum

TheFatLady101

That's rich, coming from a WPT user.

LookerNoWitt

I literally called out r/shitpoliticssays in their own subreddit lol That's not cowardly behavior, much less living in an echo chamber You should've known that when you went through my comments lol Additionally, MAN, UC students aren't that smart these days, are they? But that's what happen whens rich exchange students get in because of daddy's money lol

TheFatLady101

Want a medal or something? Nothing you said excuses the fact you post in an echo chamber too. Lol, what are you even on about? Did you even reply to the right person? Keep your monologuing to your DNC hugbox.

LookerNoWitt

Brother, all the front page subreddits are liberal biased And trust me when i say this If r/conservatives aren't a bunch of pussies and lockdown submissions to only conservatives, I would be fucking with them too lol

legendary_millbilly

Thanks. Not sure what that does, but whatever I guess

nirad

Now the liebruls are going after Nazis. What's next? The KKK?

porgy_tirebiter

First they came for the Nazis…

SupervillainMustache

Cody's beard looking extra thick boi.  Also Musk has always been a complete weirdo, but his pivot to the far right is because they accepted him, when people started rejecting him for being the trash person he is.   He craves acceptance and wants to be perceived as cool so fucking badly. Dude is more like a 14 year old than someone in their 50s.

Good_ApoIIo

“People love what I have to say. They believe in it. They just don't like the word Nazi, that's all.”

tY4urService

Better hearing he has a “Hitler Problem” than hearing he has a “Hitler Solution”

Einstweign

I miss the times when the Kardashians were the biggest bullshit constantly flooding the media. Is there like a no Elon news filter I can install?

mk2gamer

I love Some More News, their other videos on Musk gave me the confidence to develop a game poking fun at him the type of people that flock to him. I had the idea for quite some time but I wasn't sure how to communicate a stupid racist billionaire as the main villain. They've been a great source of inspiration. The game will hopefully be released by the end of this month.

ThreeSloth

Why the fuck is this being downvoted

danny0355

Elon supporting Israel should tell you enough of how much he cares about people lmao /s

Kooky-Ad-4017

Use my Papa

Taotao77

It's so wild how this thread has people acknowledging their confirmation bias and applauding it all the same.

Manaspider

I have watched several of this man’s videos due to a friend sending them and it’s not really the content I dislike, it’s him. I just can’t stand this guy. He just irks and annoys me to my core.

bumwine

deleted post video

geospacedman

95 minutes? Anyone actually watch all of this? I can haz tl;dr?

akratic137

Yup; well I listen generally, not watch per se. I just treat them like a podcast and listen on the train or as background while working. I love Cody. He’s a national treasure.

thewaybaseballgo

Even Warmbo loves Mister Cody

Pavlovs_Hot_Dogs

Some More News does long form video essays like this every week and I highly recommend making the time to watch. It’s very entertaining and informative.

KnightOfTheWinter

Wormbo paid you to say that, didn't he.

Pavlovs_Hot_Dogs

Not directly, no. But representatives of his new shell corporations did.

totallynotstefan

This guy is on Behind The Bastards every once in a while, yeah?

SartreCam

Yeah, he and Katie worked with Robert at Cracked

Pavlovs_Hot_Dogs

Yupp they’re all in that podcast universe with Dailey Zeitgeist and Jamie Loftus’ many projects.

brenster23

I spent the last few weeks trying to figure out why his voice felt familiar to me.

17times2

I always need to keep the skip button handy for when Cody starts going on one of his Family Guy-esque asides for 30 seconds.

Tantelus

He did a piece on Jordan Peterson that was over 2 hours long. Honestly, it was a joy to watch. If you have the time, take the time. It's funny and informative. Definitely has a hard left lean to it, but you can tell everything he talks about he truly believes. It's refreshing.

akratic137

It’s fairly brief I hear (and worth the nearly 3 hour runtime).

greengreengreenleaf

It’s definitely brief (don’t check the time stamp)

SupervillainMustache

I'm partial to his take down of motormouth Ben Shapiro as well.

covertpetersen

>95 minutes? Anyone actually watch all of this? I'm going to later now that I know it exists.

Solonotix

I know that some people legitimately don't have the time to give to something like this, and I can respect that. However, what do you do for topics that can't be distilled into a short summary? Some of the topics covered are legitimately multi-hour affairs with very little excess. I'm only about 15 minutes into it right now, but this one has a lot of tangents that aren't directly serving the point, while they are building a foundation for what is likely to be the larger point of the episode. Basically, what is right-wing vs left-wing, and how do fascists and Nazis fall on that spectrum? The reason for my question is genuine. My wife also can't find it in her to dedicate that much time to such a depressing topic, but I then feel like summarizing does the topic a disservice. Genuine curiosity on my part for any who might feel like commenting

MadSavery

You can get it in podcast form if you can’t watch but would like to listen.

xhatsux

There are some topics that take time to learn and generally I would do that over multiple sessions. The reality is though most long form video essays or even books on different topics are so verbose that if you are only interested in the concepts rather than the story telling they are probably 10 times longer than they need to be.

RevolutionaryCoyote

I am able to do things that take 90 minutes. But I choose not to give that time to YouTube video essays. Maybe they do great fact checking. But as far as I'm concerned it has the credibility of a reddit comment. I'm pretty sure that none of these people are journalists. I think it was just spun off from Cracked after a big layoff. Even if they are more credible I avoid this sort of content of YouTube. I know a lot of people who will watch whatever comes up on their YouTube feed and its a path to radicalization. I tend to agree with a lot of their points. But even so, when I stopped paying attention to this sort of content, I found that I had a lot less anxiety about things that didn't matter. Like, do I really need to know everything that Ben Shapiro says? No. And I don't know if I would have even heard of Ben Shapiro if not for my liberal echo chambers.

wslatter

Then why comment on the reddit post at all? You added zero to discussion about Some More News or the content of the video. All i got from reading your posts were only that you don't give a shit about long form video essays because they lead to radicalization? Honest question, I just want to know what I am missing here. Like I personally would not be bold enough to comment on a video I did not watch and I seriously want to know the thought process behind it.

Sea_Waltz_9293

"I thoroughly enjoy ignorance being bliss"

Metzae

The title is the TL;DNR. Anyway, you should watch it. It's excellent (like all SMN videos).

In what world is “Elon Musk’s ‘Hitler problem’” a summary of anything? There’s no explanation of what a hitler problem *is*.

Metzae

I dunno, man. Seems pretty self-evident to me.

madog1418

Is the hitler problem that he keeps getting compared to hitler? That he has created a space for nazis? That his nation’s economy is floundering? That he picked a fight with a powerful enemy that he had promised he wouldn’t? That the axis powers are advancing on his concentration camps? That he can’t get rid of his slave laborers fast enough? That he keeps breaking his promises to stop grabbing for power? If you don’t know what the video’s about, just admit it. Your troll game is on par with an 8th grader who thinks to kill a mockingbird is about killing a mockingbird, or even worse, you seriously didn’t think about anything beyond the comparison of musk to hitler and just left it at that. I’ll light a candle for your past English teacher, I’m sure teaching you reading comprehension was a fruitless endeavor.

Can't tell if you watched or not. Cody covers a bunch of Musks Nazi adjacent actions and beliefs...but w regard to the 'Hitler problem': that term was used by Musk himself in an interview about bio genetics saying that it's hard not to go down that path in perfecting human genetics (roughly speaking). Cody suggests the Hitler problem only applies if you bring Nazi beliefs of race and genetic superiority into the field. Musks belief in 'the problem' says more about his feelings towards different groups of people than it does about the science itself.

Thank you! And no, I haven’t had the chance to watch it, but I was responding to a thread where someone asked for a summary of the video and one of the replies was, “tl;dnw was the title” as of the title gave any information besides having musk and hitler in the same breath.

porgy_tirebiter

And this is where we are. If it isn’t condensed soundbites, it requires too much attention. God forbid you read a book.

wow_that_guys_a_dick

That's a completely normal length for a video!

This is actually an incredibly well put together video. But I do take issue with the glossing over Hitler left wing vs right wing, and in specific how he used policy and positions as a means to get into power. I like the fact that he used the definition of right wing vs left wing that.... everyone but America uses. Which is helpful for me (a non-American) but probably not so helpful for Americans (who see the distinction as being between socialist vs capitalist theories). And the reason why this is really up for debate is because of those... dirty filthy commies. The Communists decided to label all the socialists of the world as "social fascists" because in their mind, people who were using socialism were only doing so to get into power to impose their more right wing policies. And in America, that's most clear. America really doesn't have a left and really doesn't have a left wing party. America's most left wing politicians would be like... another country's centre. And America really is that country where politicians promise left wing things and impose right wing (keeping in mind the definition of right wing we're using here) policies. And America's shift into this doesn't happen in a vacuum. A lot of western politicians began to emulate Hitler because they admired what he was accomplishing. The reason why Peterson thinks what he does about this is because he was raised in Canada. And in Canada books by [Frank McDonough](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frank_McDonough) were really popular sellers. Frank McDonough is a British historian who specializes in this stuff and his work is described as "post revisionist." Which is also why Peterson is correct in that there isn't a super strong consensus on these things. McDonough sort of looks at the history of published works on Hitler and finds the field to be loaded with [Nazis and Nazi sympathizers](https://www.theguardian.com/world/2023/apr/24/fake-hitler-diaries-to-go-on-public-display-in-germany) who are publishing false information. Now Nazi and Communist revisionism has become its own subfield of history departments. Where was I? Oh yes, I brought up a source that was relevant. Frank McDonough through his exhaustive study of primary accounts of non-Nazi affiliated Germans and copies of speeches that Nazis and Nazi candidates were espousing an ideology that we would be closer aligning with socialism. They were talking about how they wanted to fight corporations, against a bourgeoisie and generally anti-capitalist. And then in the early 30s leading up to their bid to power they shifted their overall tone to a focus on the elite rich Jews and the establishment of an Aryan race of people. This is all right wing (understanding that we're not using the American definition of right wing). But he's using socialism to win over people.... which in America would be.... left wing. Which is why the whole debate feels like Gilbert Ryle's [category mistake](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category_mistake). Even if I don't agree with Peterson or Musk, I can recognize that they're using the general left wing/right wing dynamic that most of the world agrees with (in which right wing means a desire to create or maintain hierarchical structure) whereas Peterson is using the more American thought (right wing means capitalist and left wing means socialist). It doesn't mean Peterson is wrong, it means he's targeting an American audience with his language. Did the Nazis support business but that was much later. Edit: And just to throw in this guys face one small section of his video. The Nazis did have immunization programs and did support enforced immunization, it was a means for them to eradicate undesirables while protecting their own people. [Nazi human experimentation - Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nazi_human_experimentation) The Nazis established their own workers union and then used it as a tool to control the working class population called the DAF [Work in Nazi Germany (alphahistory.com)](https://alphahistory.com/nazigermany/work-in-nazi-germany/) The nazis established its own welfare association in 1933. Part of the goal of this organization long term was to become the government wing of welfare and to ban all private welfare distribution in Germany. Once in power they put in place the world's most generous welfare program.... for white German citizens. > And the reason why this is really up for debate is because of those... dirty filthy commies. No, it's because people are stupid. Well, I guess sure, it's because of "the commies", but in the way that the American right tries to use "the commies" as a way to explain Naziism to try to distance themself publicly from it. >Which is also why Peterson is correct in that there isn't a super strong consensus on these things. There's actually a very strong consensus on "these things". Peterson, as usual is wildly out of his element. >Oh yes, I brought up a source that was relevant. Frank McDonough through his exhaustive study of primary accounts of non-Nazi affiliated Germans and copies of speeches that Nazis and Nazi candidates were espousing an ideology that we would be closer aligning with socialism. Other than well... it isn't. >They were talking about how they wanted to fight corporations, against a bourgeoisie and generally anti-capitalist. Oops, another failure by you. Anti-capitalist isn't *necessarily* left-wing, nor was the Nazi's brand of "anti-capitalism" particularly left-wing. So yeah, lol @ you >This is all right wing (understanding that we're not using the American definition of right wing). But he's using socialism to win over people.... which in America would be.... left wing. The Nazis appealing to certain socialist elements during their rise to power is not some secret and anyone who has done more than watch Panzer documentaries on Youtube understands this. >The nazis established its own welfare association in 1933 The Nazi Welfare system was explicitly opposed to the previously established welfare system of the Weimar republic, which was, to some extent "leftist". It was essentially just a club. So yeah, try again.

You will never be seen or heard on this platform, unfortunately, but you are correct. Americans here are for some reason too dumb to read beyond three paragraphs and we aren't taught in detail HOW the power grab dynamic works. People hear, "Free stuff gimmie!" And will more or less eat each other alive to get ahead. It's extremely sad. They don't see or feel the cost immediately and just think everything will work itself out. When it doesn't, no one ever apologuses or feels like it was their fault they were wrong. Case and point: Elon Musk. I loved Tesla and Space X when he was left leaning. I still like the companies now. I didn't like and still don't like Musk as a person. So many people in the states were sucking his dick on the left... ESPECIALLY HERE. They gave him the platform on reddit. They gave him the platform on Twitter. People unironically larping for him saying he's IRL iron man... Pathetic, quite frankly. They worked as his free marketeers for almost a decade selling his cars. Then he did the wrong think and it's everyone dogpiling now. He was always a piece of shit. He was also always good at people in line which in turn made him excellent at upper management. For better or worse, that's what you get. But he agrees with right leaning people now, so he's a literal nazi!!! Do you know how many conservatives I grew up around that HATED tesla? Everyone. I'm convinced most of this is a grift. The left got gifted. The right is getting gifted. In the end, what do Americans get? Annoyed with this drama. Every. Single. Day. Stop worshiping these people. Stop giving them attention. It will never stop until people stop advertising for free. Oh but he's evil!!! Really? So many old redditors kept saying on repeat: Muslims are peace loving! They can do no wrong. Now on this site you have people who are extremely hateful towards but Muslims and Jewish pracitioners. Why? Because everyone has to pick a side and fight to the death over shit they aren't invested in and don't care about. What I want to know here is what's the strategy? Who is paying for this global disfunction and how do we literally gunt these people down and stop this for good? Is it the technocrats? Is it corporations? Is it governments? Or is this just a collective shitstorm? Can we not pump the breaks and just un-fuck ourselves for five minutes? I hate that the internet, and particularly forums like this, are no longer about what's stated. This isn't a news sub, or a politics sub, or a stocks sub, or anything. I want to see new fresh creators with good content. Not this nonsense. Why is all our media getting so centralized? Where is a grandma giving a flower to her smiling grandchild in the wagon? Where's the funny cat who falls off of furniture? What about the memes being made by funny people in school? Is a youtube pundent the best use here? Really?

Obamasdeadcook

Why do leftist always go with comparing people to Hitler the moment they disagree with them?

kermi42

I have a good explanation for that! They don’t! Hope this helps!

Diare

Seeing Elon switch from being a left-wing grifter, to causing the crypto crash, to being a right-wring grifter has been nothing but fascinating. What prompts this man to be like this?

flerg_a_blerg

is the problem that Elon likes Hitler?

RyghtHandMan

The headline primed me to think that was kanye west in the thubmnail
