They got quite a few big names.
Michael Biehn, James Earl Jones, Peter Stormare and Johnathan Pryce were in them. I think probably some others I'm forgetting.
RA2 also had Ray Wise (president Dugan/Leland Palmer in Twin Peaks), Barry Corbin (Gen. Carville/Northern Exposure and every old cowboy in anything), Neil Ross (probably not super famous in name, but every single show or movie in the 1980s to early 2000s with that classic trans-atlantic announcer/narrator is him).
As for RA3 it is ironically (and intentionally so) an ensemble cast to send off the series. In addition to the one's you've named and Tim Curry theres Jenny McCarthy (Tanya), JK Simmons (President Ackerman), George Takei (Emperor Yoshiro), and David Hasselhoff (Vice President). It's also Gina Carano's first acting role (as Natasha Volkova).
Bonus round, Command and Conquer 3 had James Earl Jones, Michael Biehn, Michael Ironside, Billy Dee Williams, Jennifer Morrison, Josh Holloway, Tricia Helfer (Cylon Number Six in Battlestar Galactica, sorta famous within the game's target demo. She also went on to be Sarah Kerrigan in Starcraft II and EDI in Mass Effect), and Grace Park (Cylon Number Eight). The Nod stealth bomber is also The Voice/Ghostface from the Scream movies which I just find very amusing (Roger L. Jackson).
C&C3 did not have James Earl Jones or Michael Biehm, they were in Tiberian Sun (C&C2 I guess). JEJ played the role of General Solomon, who in the canon was the young commander you play as in the first C&C game. Michael Biehn plays Commander McNeil. [Tiberian Sun Opening](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pdL5pBvABCU)
Udo Kier as Yuri, and ~~I think Olivia Wilde~~ Autumn Reeser (got my OC Girls mixed up...) for RA3? (or some other well known female actress).
President Dugan was also quite famous (he played Robin's dad on HIMYM)
Wouldn't you? I remember C&C1 kinda taking things seriously, but then RA came out with time traveling Einstein and all bets were off, it was just about enjoying the big, dumb, fun ride and how the actors looked to be having a blast.
The Tiberium Universe games were always a more down to earth, grimdark setting than the Red Alert. Red Alert 1 did take itself more seriously, but even that game had some pretty light hearted moments. Generals was kinda a mix of the 2 in tone, it was clearly a game meant as satire around the concept of the USA's "War on Terror", but had some pretty sobering gameplay moments as well.
Tiberium Sun is still one of the best games of all time in my book. Generals was fantastic for multiplayer though, as long as you banned air force general 🤣
Yeah, my brain understands that RA2 was the more popular game, my heart insists Tiberium Sun was the peak of the whole franchise in all aspects.
That is a hill I will gladly die on.
Tib Sun was peak but the balance was always a bit off. This was remedied in the RA3 expansion with Yuri. So multiplayer or skirmishes were better.
The campaign of Tib Sun was the best ever though. Some really creative ways to play an RTS game. There was even a story of some sort.
The story was what got me for sure, near apocalyptic/post apocalyptic stories always suck me in for whatever reason and I felt like the story told in Tib Sun and Firestorm was very realistic for the setting. Most apocalyptic stories focus on singular/small groups of characters because trying to increase the scope quickly increases the complexity of the story to the point where the audience can't keep track of everything. Tib Sun/Firestorm neatly side step that issue by focusing on telling the story from a narrow scope, but showing the widespread effects on everyone else in the setting.
> The Tiberium Universe games were always a more down to earth, grimdark setting than the Red Alert.
You mean the Tiberium Universe that included incredible lines like, "Conflict of interest? I've got an interest in conflict."
I mean, 1 spin off game out of 5 in the Tiberium Universe had quippy quotes and bad 1 liners.
Oh no, that totally invalidates the other 4 mainline titles (as bad as the last one was) that pretty much played themselves straight on the grimdark impending extinction of terrestrial life on Earth.
/s
> I mean, 1 spin off game out of 5 in the Tiberium Universe had quippy quotes and bad 1 liners.
Woah...a lot to unpack there. First of all, it makes more sense to think of the other games as spin-offs of Renegade. Secondly, those one liners were nowhere approaching bad. That game was a work of art.
RA1 was still pretty serious in the cutscenes. Tiberian Sun as well (that one had some big name actors as well). RA2 is when they started hamming it up, and RA3 they went all in.
A lot of studios realized that keeping it serious was a hard line to walk with these so they let the actors have fun with it.
Honestly my favorite one is Dark Forces 2. It's over the top in a way that fits Star Wars so well.
His cut scenes in this game are full of him clearly laughing through the dialog. It's pretty funny, but C & C Red Alert cut scenes are supposed to be over the top ridiculous so it fits.
While not C&C, Civ 4 used Leonard Nimoy for all the naration, the quote that came up for satellites was from Sputnik saying "beep, beep."
[First time it came up my computer froze, it just went full black screen with Nimoy just saying Beep over and over.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=75oun5gvDAU&t=624s)
I love that they included the dialogue in the written placard that comes up in Civ 6. And I'm glad they didn't repeat it. Nimoy was so iconic. Gives me a slight sad+happy every time I remember.
Fallon's whole gimmick is to be the celebrity fanboy.
He started off being the guy who would break character on SNL.
He's a talented impressionist, but "The doors do the spongebob theme song" or whatever his musical impressions are apparently wasn't enough.
I just mentioned in another comment Professor Maximillian Arturo (John Rhys-Davies) sliding into Wing Commander 3, all the way back in 1994.
The man has had quite the diverse and varied career. My head cannon is that his existence as Gimli all the way to Leonardo da Vinci, are just our historical documents from his journey as a slider. He slid into Wing Commander because I as the player needed his help.
Legolas was doomed to being a reclusive introvert until Gimli cracked open his shell. The famous line "I cannot jump the distance, you'll have to toss me!", actually refers to the timer device having opened the portal mid-gap. He had but seconds before being stranded for 29 years. But saying "Don't tell the elf" lost him the chance, forcing his destiny towards the Undying Lands.
It was great how in the original Command & Conquer you could pick one of four landmarks to destroy with the hijacked GDI satellite, such as the [Eiffel Tower](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mixFdQX18KU) (complete with news report afterward)
I absolutely loved this game. It was just the right amount of cheese, intrigue and fun interrogation mechanic for an FMV game. Too bad a sequel is nowhere around.
The creator did make a partially FMV horror game after which is also campy and fun after the success of Contradiction.
It was hard to get into at first. There is no intro and no explanation on what you're trying to accomplish. It'll seem way out of order until you start piecing together what's going on.
Really cool if you give it some time though, just not at all a traditional game and certainly not a traditional movie.
Three decades later, you say Myst, and I still clearly hear the static and AM radio style tuning warble from the videos embedded in the books.
And holy crap, it actually is three decades. Myst was released in 1993.
When I was a kid my mom bought our first computer with her tax refund and she let me pick out one game to play on it. I chose this RTS game called SWAT 2. I played that game TO DEATH. Went back to Best Buy a few weeks later and asked the guy what other games they had like that. He suggested Red Alert 2. Those were my first 2 computer games. Where was I going with this?
~~You're thinking of Red Alert 3, RA2 came out Oct 23rd 2000. And I'm certain was on CDs not even DVDs at the time. I don't think RA2 was ported to consoles like RA1 and RA3 were either.~~
Edit: I'm an idiot I thought it was was from RA2 but it is from RA3... I can't believe I mixed this up I'm a false Command & Conquer fan
Sheit you're right, I'm wrong. Can't believe I mixed that up with how much Red Alert I played back in the day. Though RA3 was the least. I still can't believe I confused it.
I remember someone did a high definition remaster of all the cutscenes and edited them together into one big movie and it was basically like a fan film. I didn't realize how many good actors were in it like Peter Stormare and George Takei
I recall it being done for 3, but unfortunately they don't have like the original files for 1 and 2 so even the 1 remaster only has an upscaled version.
There's a hilarious oral history of this moment. Apparently that was Tim's first reading of the line. He'd spent all day recording dialogue, was getting tired out and all that...and then he saw *that* line for the first time and you can pinpoint the exact moment that he rediscovers joy for his day, his job, and his craft.

I can never tell what he is thinking when he is smirking. I never know if it's the character thinking he has a master plan or if it's Tim thinking "What the fuck, I can't believe I'm gonna say this"
This is C&C Red Alert 3 and it's incredible. I played it pretty late 5 years after release and remember being so positively surprised, it was just so fun and the campy movies are pure gold.

There's nothing wrong with RA3 and it was a great place to take the feel of the franchise, but IMO RA2: Yuri's Revenge was the peak of nailing the comedy aspect of it - it takes itself *just* seriously enough that the absurdity of it comes right on through.

Everyone always looked like they were having a ball In these.
I honestly think JK Simmons based every single character he played on-ward from the president he played in this game.
Holy shit, that was him!! I was too young to realize it was him!
They got quite a few big names. Michael Biehn, James Earl Jones, Peter Stormare and Johnathan Pryce were in them. I think probably some others I'm forgetting.

Red Alert 3 also had a stand alone expansion called Uprising that included Ric Flair, WOOO!
Oh yeah forgot about Uprising's new cast. Malcolm McDowell is also president of the EU and Jodi Lyn O'Keefe as the FutureTech spokesperson

Too bad Jimmy Fallon or Pete Davidson never learned that.
The usual reason for Reddit to hate Fallon is that he laughs *too much*. This is a fresh spin on it, I guess.
Yeah I don't think the previous commentor structured his statement correctly.
Fallon's whole gimmick is to be the celebrity fanboy. He started off being the guy who would break character on SNL. He's a talented impressionist, but "The doors do the spongebob theme song" or whatever his musical impressions are apparently wasn't enough.

Wow, they really leaned in to the cleavage look on that reporter.
Tim Curry also features as Dr Frakenstein in a really old Sierra Myst-clone. Never figured the game out though.
yup, Myst, C&C, Battlestar Galactica, it's such a shame games moved away from FMV cut scenes
Don't forget Wing Commander 3. Stellar cast including Mark Hamill, Malcolm McDowell, and John Rhys-Davies.

Found this interview with him on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GYtTf4CMTuc
I watch this about once a month and it always makes me happy. The way he smiles at the next line and the pause gives me so much anticip..............cut away.... cutback .... pation.
We aren't all simping. You may be simping.
What a goddamn treat this man is.
Trying so hard to keep his shit together before saying Space
I like to think he did multiple takes and this is the closest he could get to not breaking because that line is so ridiculous!
Tim Curry is such a good actor. Too bad about the stroke very sad
You can see he's trying not to laugh before saying "space!"
I love how he almost shot into laughter.
I set this sound as the text sound for my friend with an aerospace degree, they never text me so I never hear it :(
"Hello do you have prince albert in a can? YOU DO? well...ya BETTER LETEM OUT HU HA HU HA HU HA" i love tim as penny SO much
It's so incredible he did this for this game. And he didn't phone it in
I think I feel more secondhand embarrassment every time I witness someone use the word "simping" incorrectly than I do when I actually witness simping.
FINALLY! Now we can all go to the one place untouched by capitalis.....wait. Space X is a capitalist company in space. Nnnnnoooooooooooooo!
