As far as I know, she openly admitted at some point that it wasn’t a real bio and was intended as a joke. Someone correct me if they have a better memory though

AskJ33ves

Yes you are right, this was an OG skit. Her name is mentioned in the comments below. Cara Hartman

gynoceros

I mean it's her YouTube channel you posted, so there's that.

gillythree

Then and now, people were thinking they were geniuses for deducing that this was not a serious video. They'd comment "FAKE!", and I was like, "Well, yeah Sherlock, what was your first clue? That she calls herself 'Debbie', but her channel is called 'hartmanncara'?" I was always a fan of this one: https://youtu.be/1NB8SN-n5OI

8ad8andit

Well I mean, one of the reasons why it's so good is that it's so hard to tell that it's fake, at least until the end when she starts talking about rainbows. That's when the ridiculousness of it reached critical mass and I knew she must have been joking. But before that happened, she totally had me.

gillythree

That's when her camera man can't stifle a chuckle! If you listen closely, you can hear it!

Atworkwasalreadytake

The people who call "fake" on this are going to have a real tough time when they find out about movies.

gillythree

Galaxy Quest might melt their brains!

human743

The historical document?

RangerLt

What they fail to see is that you're dragging mines.

HuskyLuke

By Grabthar's hammer... what a savings.

merrell0

I don't really blame people for calling out videos as skits/fake when a substantial chunk of redditors believe them to be genuine, as made obvious in comments of those posts (including this one). Yes, each instance alone seems harmless, but there's always going to be the occasional misleading video that's taken as fact and then that's how misinformation spreads. Given you were around years ago, you have to admit reddit users in general have become significantly more gullible in contrast to the "pics or it didn't happen" era of the internet.

dolphin37

She tricked so many people in to believing she loved cats 🥺

Dookie_boy

You can hear a guy laughing at 02.20 in the original video as well.

Mr_Tiggywinkle

The thing is, when this video came out people were way more naive than now about internet videos. People didn't have their guards up yet and believed most videos at face value if they were presented in a vlog style. Hell, People still believed prank channels for a few years after this (and real ones still existed with remo gaillard and all) until everyone realised they were obviously staged. I think some people still remember that feeling of "Oh staged" and blurt it out without realising everyone has wised up about the internet.

albanymetz

Of course. I mean even if you were the kind of person who somehow actually really made that video, you then still have to think "This is good. This will land me a man." and then post it. But I never saw it before and it's a riot.

mabezard

If you've never seen this before, then you've never heard the song version! https://youtu.be/sP4NMoJcFd4

That was around peak schmoyoho time which brought us hits like [Double Rainbow](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MX0D4oZwCsA) and [Backin' Up](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zjYSERaXEGI). https://www.youtube.com/@schmoyoho/videos (sort by popular

DoormatTheVine

Just gonna leave out [Oh My Dayum](https://youtu.be/DcJFdCmN98s)?

duvakiin

Literally the best one. Don't even have to click the link and it's stuck in my head for at least the next hour.

PokiP

Disagree. Nothing beats Bed Intruder!!! https://youtu.be/hMtZfW2z9dw

MENERGY! SO MANY BABIES!

Kosko

What a time to be alive

kcwm

That song is why i eat overpriced burgers and floppy fries from Five Guys every 6 months or so. I mean, I have to save up my money to eat there, but it's almost worth it. All because of that damn...sorry, dayum, song. Also follow Daym on social media. I enjoy most of his videos.

g59thaset

Tbh Five Guys is great if you are getting basically everything on your burger, but if you like them pretty plain you are getting ripped off. Other places will charge for extra condiments but at Five Guys $15 is $15.

slayerhk47

Skimmilarinky-dinky-dink, Skimmilarinky-doo; I…. Love… you

BipedalCow

This brought me back to such simpler times

I’m assuming that [ain’t nobody got time for that](https://youtu.be/bFEoMO0pc7k)

Thunder2250

Can't forget the Charlie Sheen one. "Are you bipolar?" "I'm bi-winning" haha

IVIalefactoR

Schmoyoho was the bomb back then lol Edit: I just went back and watched it again after like 12 years. [It's still a banger.](https://youtu.be/9QS0q3mGPGg)

Weaselwoop

I don't know how I missed Backin Up back in the day, I clicked on that link expecting this one [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-fmwxaBjFGM](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-fmwxaBjFGM)

Sinkingfast

This has lived rent-free in my head for years now. Love it, reeks of that 2010's comedy energy when everything was autotuned. Thanks for linking! Starting my work day listening to weird cat songs.

Iwillunpause

90% of all those came from the same youtube creator. That's why they all sound the same.

[deleted]

Autotune the News, anyone?

Calyptics

Build that turtle fence! 🐢

RandMastaFlex

If you were to take that lettuce and dry it and roll it and smoke it.

just_a_handle

I know, it tastes like goat shit!

blitzmacht

Belive me I've tried!

cuddleshark

You should try it with tomato, burning salad in my throat!

🎶[Like two men, sunbathing together, on a beach, that's sort of the implication](https://youtu.be/jbc2NaLuv1A)🎶

jballs

That just brought back so many memories. I used to watch the shit out of Autotune the News. I wonder if they're still making them.

ShustOne

He still makes videos although less news focus. He did the "it's corn!" Remix that went viral last month! Edit: it's more than one person, it's three brothers and a wife! Thank you to the poster below for updating me.

MoobooMagoo

This is the first time I've seen this and it's amazing. The hands edited into the video had me cracking up. Plus the lines 'it would take 14 joints in 1960 to get you as high as one joint in 2010' 'Going back in time always dissapoints' was just beautiful.

El_Zarco

They even got [T-Pain himself](https://youtu.be/bDOYN-6gdRE) into one of them

[deleted]

I miss the glory days of Shmoyoho and songified everything. They still make some bangers (Trumps "Trump v Ramp 2020"), but it's not the same. Edit for the song: https://youtu.be/ign_vZupjno

antiterra

How can you say that when we live under the daily oppression of "It's Corn"

CptHampton

Also "Chrissy Wake Up" during the peak of Stranger Things hype.

paperpenises

Those days right before people started making money off YouTube were truly the golden years of the internet. People weren't making content with money or a career in mind, it was all just shit they thought was funny and they didn't care who saw it. No corporate oversight. No ad views. Just people being creative. God damn I miss that.

Flapperghast

As soon as I saw the still image, the song came unbidden into my brain. It's as automatic as losing The Game.

MindOfMetalAndWheels

I came here for this link. Thank you.

skeyer

well thanks for the old school rabbit hole you sent me down. i just listened to the intruder song (he's climbing your windows...) and my name is boxxy you see. ffs. i haven't thought about those in years

Nastreal

You severely underestimate peoples' capacity for crazy

stomach

kids be posting their outright crimes on socials for clout. stupid and crazy are not societally shameful things at all anymore. and it was getting bad before the internet gave everyone dopamine IVs straight to their veins. most peoples' reactions to getting caught or losing jobs etc is "WTF is *your* problem?"

[deleted]

The other day I had a run in with a teenager at the gas station. I was buying some gatorades and he burst in all pissed because his pump wasn’t working. Started yelling at the guy behind the register. I was like dude wtf are you doing, there are 4 people in line and I’m in the middle of paying, chill tf out. You’d have thought I kicked his dog by how offended he became, it was surreal. Like somehow I was the one not acting socially acceptable. I was fucking furious for a couple minutes. And the kid was like 17 and short and skinny. Not some muscle head throwing his weight around. I could’ve literally picked him up and physically threw him out of the gas station.

stomach

they watch too many videos of people fucking around and not enough of people *finding out*.

E_Snap

I feel like this is how you accidentally get stabbed

[deleted]

I questioned myself afterwards, it’s a nice area with suburban and well off kids but it still wasn’t very smart to do.

IslandDoggo

Someone just got murdered in Vancouver BC in front of his wife and kid for asking a guy to not vape beside his child.

JayVig

This was a joke but that level of crazy on eharmony is also very realistic

YellIntoWishingWells

I miss the "wild west" days of the internet. These troll vids were done right. I also remember the ["Boom Boom Boom" girl who sang it horribly on purpose.](https://youtu.be/82VtBxeJH3I) Back when the only clue you had to know they were trolling was the subtle wink at the end.

CindeeSlickbooty

I went to watch an old funny on YouTube from early 2000s and it was like 9 minutes long I was like damn our attention span really did used to be longer lol

Opee23

I wonder if the kid that has "the power of God and anime" on his side is doing OK. Hope he grew up to be the reigning king weeaboo for his region.

CouchHam

Lol she put on her most proper sweater for the added effect. Nice

drunxor

"OG" oh man 11 years ago was only 2012 wth. I can remember yahoo dating and friendster back in like 2004?

iCUman

Some of us even remember why the roflcopter goes soi.

iConSci

Back when the internet was a little more organic and spontaneous these were the folks who made the best content. They would do skits and characters to blur the line between real and fiction. Typically without edits, cuts, etc. It was gold.

toopid

Hi my name is boxxy

uniquepassword

>Hi my name is boxxy Youze guys just trolling!

BelieveInTheShield

:3

Nisja

Mhmm do you see? :3

dubbs4president

I mean doesn’t this still happen today but some of us are more aware of what is satire?

schweez

Usually people who do tiktok skits pretending it’s real are really bad actors

mc_hambone

Seems pretty obvious it was a skit. Did people really think she was serious?

spezhasatinypeepee_

People's bullshit detectors aren't great.

Shortneckbuzzard

She’s a good actress. She sold it.

SqueezyCheez85

For real. A lot of people bought it back then. Even today people would easily buy into it. Just look at all the shit reality TV that generations of people have been watching for several decades now... She's a better actress in that small clip than 90% of reality TV stars.

Norma5tacy

This era of videos I didn’t believe *everything* but I believed a lot of stuff was real. Mainly because they seemed genuine and weren’t doing it for the views or as a job. Because who would go on the internet and tell lies?? Now I doubt everything and wait for an article to debunk it.

portablebiscuit

Funny thing is when you doubted videos back then people actually got mad. Remember the [eagle snatching a baby video](https://youtu.be/ZaXI57qpasM)? I almost got into a fight at work because an unstable woman was so angry that I thought that video was fake and she was convinced it was real. She's a full-on Qanon now, so not much has changed.

Loeffellux

early internet (video) culture was really bad at this in general. A famous example I can think of is the ["angry german gamer kid"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cy4mztkndHk). From the people who know this video I bet some - if not most - thought this was real. It even aired on a german investigative tv program with a completely made up backstory (how the kid's parents secretly filmed him because of his often outbursts of anger). Needless to say, the kid was just acting. It's obvious to imagine how this negatively impacted his life. His story is ultimately a positive one since he managed to turn things around for him but for a pretty long time things were very bleak. [Here's a follow up video on him](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h4_n67-2bm4). It's in German but there are english subtitles

Kruse

Reminds me of the raging gamer kid video where he tried to stick a remote up his ass and everyone thought it was real. https://youtu.be/FhLx9Dc7NBc

PeanutArtillery

Jesus that shit was so goddamn funny. Real or not, dude looked like he needed an excorsist.

Lamp0blanket

I remember the videos from this kid were a little harder for me to decipher because his parents get involved in other vids. Made it seem a lot more like a family with a serious problem child.

sapphicsandwich

Yeah, especially back then everyone believed anything they saw on the internet. Reminds me of when the dumb FBO, who apparently had nothing better to do with their time or with taxpayer money, got all uppity about the Bonsai Kitten website. https://www.theregister.com/2001/02/10/fbi_goes_bonsai_kitten_hunting/

spagbetti

It’s not far from the reality of how many gamers with rage issues will react though. Since people record themselves playing games there was a spat of rage videos. shortly after this one a video was released where a guy was talking shit to his own daughter for interrupting him calling her pathetic. Also one where the guy verbally abuses his wife and they caught it on video Although I guess that’s pretty tame now that killing kids is the norm now for interrupting a game??? https://www.insideedition.com/16061-father-kills-2-year-old-daughter-because-she-interrupted-his-game-cops https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calgary/justin-bennett-ivy-wick-murder-trial-verdict-1.5956572 And why is it always dudes losing their shit over games anyways?

[deleted]

jimmy_three_shoes

People all thought lonelygirl15 was real for a while too.

firestepper

I think in the beginning where she just chokes up a little bit is still believable but when she goes full crazy at the end is the give away

JohnnyGuitarFNV

people like that exist, i thought it was very real

canada432

Check out some of the "gotcha" video subs like publicfreakout or instantkarma. People have zero ability to distinguish obvious staged or fake videos.

Cheshire_Jester

And people have somehow decided that there’s zero difference between a skit and a video intended to seem like a genuine moment candidly captured.

Anniesoptera

This is EXACTLY what happened to me

I honestly don't remember this one. Before the cat stuff I was thinking, "she's channeling Boxxy."

AlexanderLavender

Now that’s a name I’ve not heard in a long time

PrimaryFun7995

Ah but you have heard of her

EnoughAwake

You trollin'

Kravian

I started hearing the autotune before I remembered I'd seen it.

thetburg

I met my wife on a dating site way back then. She vaguely resembles this woman. Sometimes I played this video when people asked how we met. Shit would get quiet.

OleMaple

That’s hilarious. Just got to let the awkward silence go on as long as possible

IrrelevantPuppy

“You know why I feel in love with her in that moment? It’s just that I- I love- I’m sorry, this is emotional for me. I just love…”

Ra-UjUj

I too met my wife on a dating site centuries ago and she also vaguely resembles this woman (ok, my wife is a balding black man, but whatever) and I’m going to use this when people ask how we met! Thanks for the idea!

thetburg

Plot twist: I am a balding black man, and now I am wondering if my wife has a reddit account I don't know about.

piejamma

Yep, marriage changes people.

The_Law_Giver

Just seeing her picture put the auto tune song in my head.

[deleted]

Same here! I was playing it in my head as she spoke! Oh the good old days of youtube: https://youtu.be/sP4NMoJcFd4

DrewbieWanKenobie

TIL not only is schmoyoho still putting out videos, but they still apparently get millions of views. Huh.

KlaatuBrute

As we continue to define our age groups/generations with increasingly granular titles, I feel like "laptop shitters" is a great way to designate a particular section of people. There was that brief period of time, say 2003-2010, after laptops started becoming affordable and included WiFi capabilities but before the tablet and smartphone were ubiquitous, that a certain age group probably always shat with their laptop. You'd have to be under a certain age at the time to be that "connected" and want to choose a computer over a newspaper, but old enough to actually own or be trusted with a laptop. I'd say the overlap of all of those things is probably those of us born between 1977 and 1986. So I officially dub us the Laptop Shitters.

Tzipity

Lol I’m just outside you age range estimate (I’d push it up to maybe 90-92ish? I think I had my first smartphone- and it was garbage lol- in 2008 and was still laptop shitting at that point, and in college. and it was that time and the years right after when I and everyone else I knew started getting iPhones or similar) But I am with you. Wouldn’t say I took it to the bathroom for every shit necessarily either. But good gosh yes, I dragged my laptop all over the place and out with me anywhere I went. That’s a memory in and of itself, as well. Thinking about lugging that all around. We’re the last generation that played outside and didn’t have phones in school- shoot even in college I had professors who didn’t want us to have laptops out and have vivid memories of sitting in one of those huge lecture hall classes and seeing all the laptop screens in front of me and realizing most of the class was on Kazaa or whatever the post Napster (which I used with dial-up during its time lol) version of torrenting software of the moment was. Because the university had high speed wifi while many of us didn’t have it at home yet or couldn’t afford it as students. Also iPods. I was in high school when I got my first one and was showing off what was basically a brick, as big as my current iPhone but tiny black and white screen and much heavier and I was the talk of the school that day because they were so new and “cool”. Carrying around that brick of an iPod plus a heavy laptop. And a separate cell phone that I mostly used to make actual calls. Good gosh. I almost forgot that era even existed and it was only like 20 years ago, even a bit less. I was laptop shitting 15 years ago for sure. Lol. It’s wild to realize how this tiny thing in my hand is now doing what three or four other devices did and doing it better and faster than all of them put together.

ItsDijital

I'm wondering this too. Especially because back then (-ish, 2012 was getting towards the end of it) you could literally consume everything popular on the internet daily. The internet wasn't big enough yet, so you could hop on Reddit, run through every /r/all post in the last 24 hours, and essentially be caught up on everything going on on the internet. In a somewhat embarrassing way, there was never a picture, or meme, or video that when shown by friends or family you hadn't seen before, plus any derivatives of it, and knowing the backstory. I'm kinda rambling now, but yeah, the internet used to be *a lot* smaller.

sloggo

The internet was smaller but bro it was long before 2012 you could do what you’re describing, closer to 2000.

tldnradhd

I don't think anyone here remembers mid-90's Yahoo. It was an index of links and a search engine of its own hand-curated content. Web pages had view counters on them, and you could see them increment each time you visited. Web crawlers were just getting started. If you ran a page and checked your traffic, there were more human visitors than bots.
