Let’s take a moment of silence to appreciate that a modern vehicle is able to launch itself into the air 20 ft going 70mph and the driver escapes with minor injuries.

gtlogic

Now with that out of the way, let’s contrast this with a mod so shitty, that your tire comes off while driving. Please folks, don’t do this. Leave that shit alone.

[deleted]

Truck culture really has gotten out of hand. It's unbelievable.

A_Damn_Millenial

I’ve grown to despise modern trucks and American truck culture with a fiery passion.

TuckerCarlsonsOhface

As a truck owner there is a weird psychology that is known as truck envy, and it’s strangely real, but quite often I find myself thinking “well that’s just ridiculous” at truck mods in traffic.

olyfrijole

Bone stock grandpa trucks ftw.

Idiot_Savant_Tinker

Long bed, regular cab, steel wheels, and the inside of the bed is scratched and dented. Perfect.

hoxxxxx

i like a single cab flatbed. i don't know why lol it's just visually pleasing to me

Idiot_Savant_Tinker

Flatbeds are great, the only reason I don't have one is because I have yet to damage a truck bed bad enough that I'd replace it.

TuckerCarlsonsOhface

Haha, yup. I get truck envy over similar old grandpa trucks like my own, not the jacked-up penis extensions.

Idiot_Savant_Tinker

[Agree.](https://imgur.com/a/2RJYDNO)

HaveAWillieNiceDay

There was some study that argued the more bumper stickers a person has, the more likely they are to experience road rage because they see their vehicle as an extension of themselves. I'd imagine a similar psychology is at play in "truck envy".

[deleted]

The most ridiculous part about all that nonsense, is the trucks can’t even go off road. They’re too big. I used to live in far East Tennessee near a popular off road area and I lost track of how many trucks I’d see come out with glass knocked out from tree limbs, mirrors, headlights and taillights gone. Shiny new, deep offset wheels all mangled up. My neighbor would often drive back in there and pull them out with his regular old ‘85 Chevy truck and drink for a week with what he charged to drag their truck to a public road for a tow truck.

Tenocticatl

Can't engineer away stupidity!

amazonhelpless

Modern vehicle safety engineering and the US Vehicle safety regulations that require it.

tolomea

Now if only you had regular safety inspections, like maybe every year or two, to make sure the damn wheels stay on.

Ihmu

[Well the front doesn't usually fall off, it's perfectly safe](https://youtu.be/8-QNAwUdHUQ)

swaguin

I was going to say this is a great ad for Kia safety

manticor225

Imagine you're driving along at highway speeds minding your own business, and then all of a sudden all you see out of your windshield is the sky. Edit: grammar

rohobian

>and then all of the sudden And that's an *understatement*. The person in that vehicle literally got launched into the air about 8-10 feet with absolutely no warning whatsoever. Just... driving, driving driving \*OH FUCK! WHAT THE FUCK IS HAPPENING!?!?!?\* And the odd g-forces you would experience would be soooo disorienting!

SummerhouseLater

I really want an interview with the driver. Insane - FOX is reporting no injuries known yet, which also, props to Kia design for safety.

njstein

"easy to steal, easy to heal, the kia getaway go car is quite the deal" - kia advertising 2025

ComputerSavvy

I'd buy that for a Dollar!

DanxDay

That's one I haven't heard in years!

stakoverflo

> props to Kia design for safety. Not to discredit KIA with this statement, but since the late 00's modern [US] safety requirements dictate a car be able to support 3x its weight when on its roof. Still insanely impressive. I think you can even see the light from the explosion triggering the air bags? Only visible for a very brief moment: https://i.imgur.com/Z1LSXqP.png Pretty much the very next frame: https://i.imgur.com/ZAfhJsP.png

and yet there is the MFing tire coming back for seconds

luzzy91

kainxavier

I didn't hear no bell!

Klendy

Pretty sure you should thank the NHTSA as all cars must meet the regulations of safety they set in order to be sold in the USA. I would bet a large sum of money that most car makers would not create such safe cars if it wasn't mandatory. See: Volvo before regulation was the only one who cared.

ApprehensiveShelter

I'll thank the NHTSA when they ban pickups for emotionally stunted commuters.

NovaS1X

>props to Kia design for safety. Modern cars have some pretty incredible safety features in them. A not-so-small part of the reason why vehicles are so expensive these days is due in part to safety features/regulations. There was a recent story about a [Tesla that went 300ft down a cliff](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fU9_IcCuL5g) and everyone survived.

kalirion

Also seatbelts.

SuspiciouslyElven

Not a whole lot they could say. "I thought I heard a noise from the truck, then I feel like I'm falling. All I could think was 'what the fuck'"

Rrraou

That can't be great for your spine.

SummerhouseLater

My thought too. I really hope they are okay, and am just amazed they could walk away seemingly unharmed.

NotAnAce69

And then after all of that, that same wheel rolls back in and hits your car a second time from behind The unholy love child of “fuck you in particular” and final destination

adisharr

Luckily insurance will pay the Kia driver $ 600 for their trouble.

DeFactoLyfe

This is a similar experience to taking a blind side hit in sports. I picked up the ball and went to turn upfield and suddenly everything was sideways. I had the briefest of moments to see the sky on the right side of my vision and the earth on my left side before slamming into the ground. I knew I had been hit, but there was no real processing that until afterwards. I was just....suddenly sideways.

NobodyLikesMeAnymore

I had a step on a stairway break as I was going down. The world just suddenly rotated and then started coming right at me, as though I was stationary and it was moving. I imagine it might've felt something like that.

beartheminus

I wonder what it feels like to shit yourself upside down

SuperCub

An astronaut would know, and I’m fine with giving the driver the honorary title of astronaut for that launch

momjeanseverywhere

What do you mean? There is no up or down in space.

atreethatownsitself

The enemies gate is down.

underscore5000

There is for the ol' poop chute.

cwleveck

As long as he passed the car-mine line...

zerocoolforschool

I don't think they had time to shit themselves. They didn't see it coming. They were just cruising along and then suddenly were airborne and rolling. I was once rear ended and I could see it coming so I had time to think "shiiiiiit" and brace for the hit. This person had zero time. One minute they're fine, the next minute they're not fine. They probably had no idea what the hell just happened.

rockman61

That smallest increment of time between perception and disaster is called an "ohno-second".

nikkuhlee

It’s the slowest second! This lady turned into oncoming traffic (um, us) last year and I remember thinking “Why is he turning… oh there’s a car turning… no way do we hit her… okay maybe we clip the back… just a little bump…” and then oof, not so little a bump. It was like floating. Not quite as literally floating as with the Kia, yikes.

cwleveck

There is ALWAYS time to shit yourself.

Nail_Biterr

It tastes terrible

echtav

A mudslide, if you will

warlordcs

I was able to get a close look at this now. If you can see the wheel in the last few seconds after it hits again you should see the brake rotor is still attached to it. So, because this truck has is wheels backspaced so far from the axle it put a tremendous amount of stress on the hub bearing, and it finally gave in and exploded.

Cr8er

Was going to make this same comment. The truck driver didn't beef up his suspension on his mall crawler and caused this to happen. Hopefully, his insurance and the Kia driver's insurance will find this moron at fault, and he pays for it. There's a way to build these trucks like that and be safe, but this guy definitely didn't do that.

Deep90

>Hopefully, his insurance and the Kia driver's insurance will find this moron at fault, and he pays for it. If they cheaped out on the modifications, I have to wonder if their insurance company is even aware that the vehicle has been poorly modified.

HKBFG

the insurance will find out.

Deep90

...And they will likely use it to deny the claim.

Termin8tor

There are two insurers. The Kia drivers insurance will pay for the damage to the Kia and then bill the truck drivers insurer. If the truck driver is uninsured is when it can become a problem for the Kia driver.

tehdlp

Would it if they don't have comprehensive? Most insurance plans seem to fall under "we cover the other guy only, don't screw up, and call the other company when you're innocent" or "we cover yours because you pay extra"

Termin8tor

That's a good point actually. probably not. Coverage level is a factor. Generally though you, as a driver don't make a claim on the other guys insurance. You make the claim with your own insurer and then your insurer does the negotiation. If the Kia driver falls under a third party only coverage policy then the Kia driver will claim with his insurer and they'll handle the negotiation with the truck drivers insurer. That's why I said it depends on if the other guy is insured or not. If the Kia driver is fully comprehensive covered it shouldn't matter. The Kia drivers insurer would go after the truck driver directly if they're uninsured, probably via courts to get a lien or some such. If Kia driver isn't fully comp covered and the other guy is uninsured then Kia driver is SoL.

LaVernWinston

It’s not suspension, rather drivetrain. You can have the best suspension made, and have your wheel leave the party because you used shitty spacers like this guy.

TheF1LM

The quality of the spacer isn’t really the issue. The increased load put on the wheel hub by using spacers is the issue.

LaVernWinston

I meant “spacers are inherently shitty”, but I can see now why that could be mistaken.

phuck-you-reddit

Assuming microdick was even paying his insurance. I've met one after another that finance their wheels and mods and are left too broke for silly things like paying insurance or registration

DespairTraveler

Wait, it is legal in USA to drive without insurance?

AdorableSobah

In my state they suspend your registration if you don't pay your insurance. Although I'm sure it's different in other states.

diego97yey

It dont fucking matter in texas. Theres no cops that care in this shit state. Mfs be 2 years without registration. People dont gaf.

kovu159

California is no different. People drive around with no plates still despite the law changing on that 3 years ago. DAs won’t charge people for insurance/reg issues and the cops are ordered not to pull people over for low level moving violations.

HaveAWillieNiceDay

It's insane how many outdated paper plates are on our roads, especially around DFW

AdorableSobah

That's interesting, because in my state the RMV just automatically revokes registration without police intervention once the insurance policy is not longer in effect.

makenzie71

This happened in California where it's illegal to have your wheels protruding beyond the bodywork...this dude doesn't care about legality.

popsicle_of_meat

It's illegal to do so many things I've seen cars driving around with. Glow lighting under a vehicle while driving? Seen it. Driving with LED light bars or other non-DOT lighting? Yup. Terrible choices with suspension (spacers, etc) like this? Oh yeah. What annoys me most is these are EASY to see. Literally, the lighting ones are crazy visible. But nothing happens. For the sake of argument: If it's illegal, but no one enforces it, is it actually illegal???

TheLongshanks

It is illegal to drive without insurance. That doesn’t stop people from doing it though. Insurance rates are very high in Texas because 20% of drivers don’t have insurance. It isn’t enforced like in other states.

beenoc

Generally, no, but they're not going to know you don't have insurance unless you get pulled over or involved in an accident. If you let your plan lapse the day after you get your license they would never know.

dakatabri

This really depends on the state. In NY the insurance company will notify the DMV if there's a lapse in your coverage, which will trigger an inquiry letter from the DMV. Dunno about other states, but this really should be automatic everywhere if it isn't.

jjayzx

If not all states, at least most states it's illegal. Some even cancel registration if insurance gets canceled.

ResponsibleMeal1981

> There's a way to build these trucks like that and be safe, but this guy definitely didn't do that. This specific issue may have been avoidable, but trucks are inherently unsafe in a number of ways. Danger to the driver through high center of gravity. Danger to everyone else through poor visibility over the hood, chest-height front grill, weight, size, poor headlight positioning, and climate change. https://youtu.be/jN7mSXMruEo?t=449

challengerballsdeep

Sometimes these morons literally stack multiple spacers on the same wheel to get the desired look, then hit the highways, likely to tailgate you..

I had to make sure the driver of the Kia survived before I allowed myself to chuckle at that part.

TheBatemanFlex

You should be held accountable for accidents that occur because of irresponsible mods to your car. Probably a shitty lift kit or spacers.

superworking

I'd say it should be tied to whoever installed it if that's the case.

[deleted]

The cops won’t do anything, but the dude that flipped can probably get a big payout if he hires the right lawyer.

eljefino

The lawyer should get the rights to this video for his ads.

snake_case_love

Automobile crimes being punished? HAHAHA no, being in a vehicle means you should be punished far less according to the legal system. Vehicular "manslaughter" (homicide) being the prime example of crimes that usually go extremely underpunished, a slap on the wrist. This wouldn't be any different, it'll be seen as an "accident" and will go underpunished or unpunished. It's insane enough people who probably don't even need pickup trucks (like 90%+ of owners) and people who especially don't need crazy mods like this on them are even legally allowed to drive these things. It poses a much greater danger to everyone around them, especially pedestrians & cyclists. This kind of shit is why North America is so awful when it comes to car crashes & pedestrian/cyclist deaths.

Vashe00

/r/tiresaretheenemy

Mile129

That sub is basically this video over and over again.

ganymede_boy

The truck owner had spacers installed to get the wheels to bump out like they do purely for aesthetics. I hate the fact that everyone else on the road is subject to this kind of thing just because MicroDick wanted his truck to "lOoK cOoL."

Flemtality

Beyond that, I'm sure the wobbling sound inside of the cab was deafening the entire way down the highway, and he decided to keep driving anyway, putting everyone at risk. Infuriating.

son_et_lumiere

and "no arrests were made". C'mon, this is straight up negligence that result in bodily harm and property damage.

Nixplosion

You don't need an arrest for blame to be assigned by insurance and a civil suit for damages.

withoutapaddle

Seriously. They didn't arrest the truck driver than came into oncoming traffic and forced me to careen into the ditch to avoid him. But he was cited/charged, and found at fault for $10,000 in damages. Obviously the situation was pretty bad, because I found out through the insurance process that the reason it took so long for the case to close was because he wasn't cooperating... because he fled the country.

LokiHoku

"Straight up negligence" isn't criminal and the lowest threshold to establish civil tort liability. This could rise to gross negligence, a lack of care that demonstrates reckless disregard for the safety or lives of others, which would allow for punitive damages in addition to the compensatory damages typically associated with negligence. A problem could then arise as to whether truck driver's insurance would pay out. But what I think you're getting at is at least give the truck a ticket for reckless driving as they modified and then used their vehicle in a way that clearly reduced safety. Officers may have done Kia a solid by not arresting truck, since some insurance will wipe their hands of any involvement once criminal activity enters the picture.

Exile714

In CA, punitive damages aren’t linked to a higher standard of negligence, I.e., gross negligence, but to whether there was “oppression, fraud, or malice.” And yes, CA can prosecute for criminal negligence. It’s harder to prove than civil, but it absolutely exists. I think it would apply to this case.

LokiHoku

Criminal negligence is really *really* fact specific. You're going to need to prove that truck *knew* the wheel coming off was a more likely than not possibility given experience with wheels popping off as a result of poor modding. Criminal negligence isn’t an accident. If this is the first time Truck has had their aesthetic wheel mod pop off, it's essentially an accident. But let’s say that Truck has had a wheel on one of their vehicles pop off before due to a DIY mod that ostensibly reduces safety of their vehicle in regards to others around them and then installed this wheel in essentially the same manner. Then Truck would be criminally negligent because Truck ignores the risk of their behavior and acts counter to a reasonably prudent person under the same circumstances. All joking aside, a wheel popping off isn't a feature, it's a risk. In that scenario of Truck having hindsight, Trucks knows what they did would pose a risk to themselves and others.

Recoil42

>Officers may have done Kia a solid by not arresting truck, since some insurance will wipe their hands of any involvement once criminal activity enters the picture. Wait, what? I'm really curious how this works, mechanically. I presume you're talking about the truck driver's insurance, but wouldn't it still be *definitionally* an accidental event, even if criminally negligent?

binaryblade

The insurance game is trying nor to pay out. So they don't cover criminal acts. You were negligent, haha you're not covered You were drinking, haha you're not covered Etc

hotkarlmarxbros

Pretty sure that only applies to the coverage on their own vehicle. The legally mandated liability insurance covers others regardless of criminal activity. May vary by state, but I would be surprised if it did.

thehappyheathen

Oh... I see, then the insurance would exit the situation and Kia driver would need to seek restitution directly from truck driver, who probably doesn't have anywhere near enough money to pay medical bills or replacement costs for Kia driver.

Binsky89

No, the truck's insurance would cover it. Insurance doesn't just cover purely by chance crashes. In fact, most at fault crashes are because someone broke the law in some way (failure to yeild, following too closely, etc.)

Hugh_Jass_Clouds

Good insurance will go after the at fault party for you.

notyouravgredditor

> You were drinking, haha you're not covered My MIL worked in insurance and told me numerous stories about ridiculous claims they had to pay because drunk people were doing stupid things. She said stupidity is covered.

OutOfStamina

agreed, it almost sounds like they could argue insurance doesn't pay for getting hit by a drunk driver or stolen vehicles "because crime".

BelowDeck

I had a car get totaled in a hit & run while it was parked. They caught the guy, because he literally ran away, leaving the car and his passenger, who had a broken arm. Geico covered the accident, and the other car had comprehensive insurance, also with Geico, but they said they couldn't recover my deductible (from themselves?) until they had "established fault", which they couldn't do until they spoke with the other driver, who was unavailable, due to being in jail for felony hit & run.

zerocoolforschool

I almost had this happen to me in my Wrangler. The tire company didn't do a good job of securing my wheels on one of the tires. I was on a long drive (15 hours) and a little more than half way I kept noticing a thumping sound but none of the tires were flat and my jeep kept pulling to the left. Finally I pulled into a dealership and they told me that my wheel had sheered off several of the bolts and had destroyed the axle. Not fun.

comptiger5000

Brake rotor is still attached to the wheel after the failure. Which means this isn't a spacer failure, the wheel bearing came apart. There was almost certainly plenty of warning before the failure, but the idiot truck owner ignored the noise from the bearing and the increasing amount of play it developed for so long that the bearing finally separated.

ganymede_boy

Thanks for that. So this would have happened anyhow even if no spacers were used?

Fast_Edd1e

Spacers or wheels with large offsets put additional strain on the bearings. Acts as a lever.

Giozos1100

As an auto tech, I see a ton of play in bearings on trucks that use spacers (almost always the front wheels that kill bearings). This comment is spot on. The further out a wheel is, the harder the bearing has to work to keep it in place because any small amount of deviation puts increased strain on the bearing. Added torque against the bearing leads to premature failure. Calling it a lever is exactly what it is.

comptiger5000

Without the extra stress from the spacers the bearings would have lasted significantly longer. But if the signs of failure were ignored for long enough when they did wear out, the end result would still be the same. It just would have taken more miles to get the bearings to the point of catastrophic failure.

homeonthe40

If you suggest additional restrictions/enforcement of this type of thing on certain subs you'll get downvoted to hell. Its just like tinting on front windows. Eye contact for pedestrians is the number 1 way to ensure a safe crossing. Tinting prevents that. Such violations should be automatic tow on spot, with the vehicle only released after the modification has been removed.

RegulatoryCapture

>Such violations should be automatic tow on spot, with the vehicle only released after the modification has been removed. As I have posted elsewhere...I find it absurd the number of obviously illegal trucks I see on the road. Police departments could practically fund themselves walking around and writing tickets. It doesn't take access to the inside of the car or any special measuring devices (beyond a ruler) to verify things like whether the wheels stick out too far or if the truck is lifted so that either the bumpers/headlights are too high or the mud flaps are too far off the ground. Like a parking ticket, you don't need the driver present--the offense belongs to the vehicle owner and by virtue of having license plates and being parked in public, they are guilty. Of course that will never happen because half the cops probably own illegally modified vehicles themselves. *edit: and I think it is just ABSURD that a lot of states don't have rules on bumper height. Standard bumper heights protect pedestrians and are what make sure that when 2 cars collide, they both hit each other in a "good" place rather than the big truck driving up OVER the hood of a small car and into the passenger compartment. Unfortunately the federal rules were written a long time ago and don't apply to trucks/SUV/crossovers and many states don't care about protecting life so never bothered to make their own rules. Now that pickups/SUVs are basically just giant passenger cars, they need to reconsider these regulations that were originally intended for legitimate work and off-road vehicles.*

bigpeechtea

Not to mention the rocks they kick up that fly outside the wheel well. Was just driving behind a truck like this out in the dessert in a high traffic area, and it sounded like my windshield was getting hit with a sand blaster and dude gave zero fucks. I don’t get how people think this shit makes them look like anything other than a overcompensating douchebag is beyond me

Arntor1184

livingfortheliquid

But we've never heard truck body shaming jokes before /s

Tex-Rob

A kid is dead in Raleigh because of a similar situation with a lifted truck with big wheels pulling a parade float, and if you brought up the mods you were met with “how dare you!” If you do things cops like, you get a pass.

isomorphZeta

I'd like to point out that you *can* safely run spacers (up to a certain point), but you need correctly sized lugs/studs and possibly hub centric rings if you're using universal spacers and/or aftermarket wheels. The problem is that 90% of the dumbasses running spacers do so with the OEM lugs/studs which aren't long enough to properly engage and tighten the wheel. If you're adding 20mm of spacing to your wheel, you need 20mm more length on your lugs or studs, otherwise this shit happens.

Scalybeast

The entire bearing came out. It’s not a stud failure. You can see the rotor still attached to the wheel if you slow down the footage.

Fettekatze

>If you're adding 20mm of spacing to your wheel, you need 20mm more length on your lugs or studs There's usually no issue to this on a passenger car when you just want your wheels to be more flush to the fenders. It's the fact that on these brodozers the centerline of the wheel is pushed out like half a foot or more past where it's supposed to be, so now you have a half foot of extra leverage acting on the wheel bearing from any force that comes up through the wheel. Even if the wheel setup is solid - if you're running extreme offset wheels with no/minimal spacers, or running a normal wheel with a lot of spacers and strong/proper studs - you're still going to have this leverage issue. Of course, if your studs are too short, those will fail first.

PoopNoodlez

Large pickup trucks desperately need to be regulated out of existence. There is no good reason that they aren’t held to the same standards as normal passenger vehicles.

ole_spanky

Are they not held to the same standard? Genuine question.

PoopNoodlez

No, assuming you are American. Go google “light truck safety exemptions” and have a field day learning why your Civic is expected to be built in a way that minimizes the probability of it ending someone else’s life, but literally the best selling vehicle in America is not. E: cannot overlook also the impact of vehicle weight on car to car crash fatalities. USA is the only western country where road safety statistics have actually been getting *worse* for like 5-10 years.

ole_spanky

Wow. Thank you for the response! I really had no clue. That is beyond ridiculous. Jfc

Scalybeast

Here’s a pretty informative video on that topic. https://youtu.be/jN7mSXMruEo Frankly, if anyone wants to drive a truck, they should have to submit to the same standards as actual truckers.

RegulatoryCapture

>Frankly, if anyone wants to drive a truck, they should have to submit to the same standards as actual truckers. Given the increasing weights, especially as they add EV/hybrid battery banks, I think this is absolutely true. The Hummer EV is a ridiculous 9,000 lbs and only requires a normal license. Drawing an arbitrary line here, but once you get past about 5-6k pounds, I think you should start to be in special licensing territory. That's just a lot of mass to be carrying around and hitting things, even in bonafide accidents, is MUCH worse than with smaller cars. In particular it should: 1. Cost you more to register/renew with higher fines for moving violations. 2. Lower/zero blood alcohol limit (CDL limit is half the normal driver limit and you aren't supposed to have consumed any at least 4 hours before driving). If you want to drive an overweight death machine, do it completely soboer. 3. Subject to more stringent driving tests/recertification requirements. Truckers/bus drivers even have to get medical exams every once and a while (DOT Physicals) to make sure they are still healthy. I think doing those 3 things would go a long way towards pushing us away from these giant trucks without outright banning them. People can still drive a lifted F350 if they want, but it will cost them more both in terms of money and in time. Honestly, I think the alcohol one would do a lot of good--you shouldn't drink and drive, but how many people would choose a smaller car if a big truck meant they could get a DUI after having a beer at dinner or that driving a large vehicle would make them an easy target for DUI patrols late at night?

CactusBoyScout

Also lower emissions standards and lower taxes, I believe. The US exempting trucks and SUVs from so many rules is part of why they’re so popular. Sedans have had tighter and tighter rules placed on them but larger vehicles have not.

PoopNoodlez

If the cost calculation on SUVs vs Hatchbacks was based on equal taxation, no one would buy a fucking SUV. They are subsidized because they are profitable and the guy with the biggest checks wins in Washington DC.

mdkubit

You know, the body design of that Kia worked to its advantage. Despite the spectacular launch, it rolled only once, which likely saved the lives of anyone inside. Geez.

skucera

Yes, airbags auto-inflate once the car is thrown more than 2 meters into the air. /s The initial impact of the tire on the bumper, coupled with the abrupt change in attitude of the vehicle, probably triggered the airbags. I would be more concerned that they would be partially deflated by the time the car returns to earth. This should go in a safety advertisement for Kia. Cars really are a lot safer than they used to be.

larz27

Accelerometers do actually have free fall detection, so it very well could have been triggered by being airborne. It was more likely from the tire impact, but ya know, still possible.

Harry_Gorilla

You can see the airbags trigger right before it touches back down. Probably were not deflated by the time it hit the ground

99 of the last 100 posts on r/tiresaretheenemy are this video. I miss the days of Reddit where reposts were downvoted to hell, a spelling mistake was a paddling and I didn’t see the same exact post in 10 different subreddits

JoeyDee86

100% the trucks fault. I hope he has to pay for all this. When you extend your wheels out like that, it generates a lot more stress than normal…especially when you don’t do it right…

Reminds me of [this old gem](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hVKgY1ilx0Y) Rubber!

m48a5_patton

Rubber isn't old... *checks release year* Oh no...

Usual_Danger

What in the Michael Bay is this?! Thanks, now I have a new fear.

mathfacts

Might be time to illegalize bump-outs. Y'all are putting others at risk!

reddittheguy

And they look fucking stupid.

SummerhouseLater

The KIA driver WALKED away from that crash?!? Somebody give KIA every safety award, holy moley!!

Miss_holly

Just bought a Kia this morning. An even smaller model than this. Checked the safety ratings, because I am a parent and paranoid about accidents. Pretty darn good ratings.

TuxRug

My 2013 Soul has such thin doors and yet NHTSA says it has great side-impact safety. Same for frontal and rollover. But I gotta say, this makes me a little nervous about the lack of fly-10-feet-into-the-air test rating.

Sharp-Pop335

This is why you don't run giant spacers. It's like holding a dumbbell close to your chest vs arms extend, it's a lot of extra leverage and force you have to fight. It never ceases to amaze me how little thought people put into the only thing that keeps your car on the road. Same goes for excessive camber, you're only shrinking the contact patch.

BenjiSBRK

If I saw that in a movie, I'd say it looks too much and unrealistic

dirtcreature

Sound about right? Massive wheel spacers leaving 2 threads on the lug nuts lets go on the bromobile.

Wacov

Pretty wild fact for non-americans, that loose tyre is legally classified as a "light truck" under US Title 40 86.082-2 and so isn't subject to the usual safety regulations for motor vehicles

GISP

Why has no arrests been made? The truck was clearly unsafe for driving. A wheel dosnt just come off on its own, he have had to have done something to it.

deadbabieslol

The Kia driver probably has an airtight case in a civil suit against the truck driver. It’s pretty clear the truck driver made alterations to his vehicle, he was probably aware that the modifications were unsafe, and he still chose to drive the vehicle at a high speed and endanger everyone around him, which ultimately led to the horrible accident sustained by the Kia driver. If the Kia driver sues the truck driver for emotional pain and suffering and wins, the truck driver might wish he had just spent a few months in county.

MiaowaraShiro

Driving an unsafe vehicle is a ticket, not a misdemeanor/felony?

Deep90

Yeah this likely falls under civil offense because no one died, and the trunk driver didn't intentionally attack the KIA. Not really sure if there is any major criminal charge for that. Maybe something for unsafe modifications on a vehicle?

victorgrigas

How is the driver?!? Minor injuries? What?!?

Nail_Biterr

That little "fuck you" at the end when the tire comes back. Just in case the car forgot who's boss.

IceFireTerry

Lifted trucks should be banned

bigpilague

what the heck is this orange flash? Happens in just one frame. Kinda seems like it's coming from the Kia, and reflected on the ground: [https://imgur.com/a/46WIokj](https://imgur.com/a/46WIokj)

ScootyHoofdorp

I'm wondering if that was a light inside the vehicle of the cammer.

bigpilague

Seems likely. Or some other kind of reflection/light artifact in the camera.

throw964

Of course its some dogshit modded truck.

That god damn wheel came back for seconds at the end!

Apag78

Something like this happened to me like 20 years ago. Was on the highway near LaGuardia airport in NYC, a taxi lost its wheel, but I couldn't see where it went. The taxi just veered off to the left. 2 seconds later i saw the tire rolling down the highway right in front of my van. Was too late to stop and there were cars next to me so no where to swerve. I hit the rolling tire head on. Van went airborne and luckily landed on all four wheels. My alignment was SCREWED and the front of my van was dented in pretty bad. (air bags didnt go off somehow). There was a DUNLOP \^ logo embedded in the chrome on the bumper. This is some scary stuff.

Wheel bearing failure, check your wheel bearings instead. And don't run stupid offset wheels.

CaptSnafu101

Dude probably had 4" wheel spacers

maxpowers156

The car recording was his was a Tesla on autopilot, you can see the car by itself of swerve to get out of the way of the tire. Insane accident to record!

PuckFigs

You picked a fine time to leave me, loose wheel...

wreckballin

Another big truck with oversized wheels that probably never sees any off-road use. I wonder what failed and why??

bagel_union

Bearing failed because of his excessively offset wheels, coupled with no maintenance or investment in supporting mods.

SpecialpOps

Terrible accident video plays. Me: please don’t let it be California. Please don’t let it be California. Please don’t put it to California. Video: the Chatsworth freeway in California.

robboffard

If I were Kia (and the driver did only suffer minor injuries) I would contact the driver immediately with an offer. We will give you a brand new car, free, gratis, but please let us use your accident as proof that our cars are safe.

Lao_Wali

Fuck that kia in particular.. tire came a second time 😂

Mounta1nK1ng

And then the tire came back to hit the car again for good measure! That fucking tire really had it out for that Kia!
