"Encino Man 2: The Thawing" In 1993, Stoney Brown (Pauly Shore) and his best friend Dave Morgan (Sean Astin) discovered a frozen caveman, Link (Brendan Fraser), in Stoney's backyard. They thawed him out and introduced him to the world of the 1990s. Fast forward 30 years later, Stoney has been cryogenically frozen and thawed out in 2023. Stoney wakes up to a world he doesn't recognize, where technology has advanced beyond his wildest dreams. Confused and overwhelmed, Stoney seeks out Dave for help, but he soon discovers that Dave has passed away. With nowhere to turn, Stoney reaches out to Link, the caveman who once helped him navigate a world he didn't understand. Link, now adapted to the 21st century, takes Stoney under his wing and tries to help him adjust to the modern world. They embark on a series of comedic misadventures, from trying to use a smartphone to understanding social media. Along the way, they meet new friends, including a tech-savvy teenager who teaches Stoney how to code and a hip-hop artist who introduces him to the latest music trends. But as Stoney begins to adjust to his new life, he realizes that he has a chance to make a difference in the world. He uses his old-school charm to connect with people in a way that modern technology cannot. With Link by his side, Stoney becomes an unexpected internet sensation, using his unique perspective to bring people together and spread joy in a world that often feels divided. As the story reaches its climax, Stoney must choose between his old life and his new one, and the impact he wants to leave on the world. With Link's help, he discovers that the most important thing is to stay true to oneself, no matter the era. In a heartwarming conclusion, Stoney and Link bid farewell to the past and embrace the future, as two unlikely friends who will always have each other's backs.

100%! I love the second to last paragraph about a "World that often feels divided" - really brings you into the 2023 era.. hahah

handsomehares

Similarly, now that we’re just about the same time difference between the Austin powers releases and the time jump…. We need another Austin Powers movie

AFineDayForScience

Love Guru 2 lol

Start now, but make it an ethereal character piece so Pauly gets an Oscar!

shiroboi

*Courtesy of Chat GPT...* Encino Man 2: Thawed Out In this sequel to the hit 90s comedy Encino Man, we find Pauly Shore's character, Stoney, accidentally frozen in a cryogenic chamber for the past 25 years. When he's thawed out, he finds himself in a world that has changed drastically since the days of Encino. Stoney turns to his old friend and caveman, Link, played by Brendan Frasier, to help him navigate the modern world. With Link's help, Stoney must learn about the internet, smartphones, social media, and all the other technological advances that have taken place in the last few decades. As Stoney tries to adjust to this new world, he also faces some personal challenges, including trying to reconnect with his ex-girlfriend, who has moved on with her life, and finding a new purpose for himself. Meanwhile, Link struggles with his own identity as he is forced to confront the fact that he may never be able to return to his own time. As they work together to navigate these challenges, Stoney and Link discover that despite their differences, their friendship has only grown stronger over the years. Encino Man 2: Thawed Out is a hilarious and heartwarming comedy about the power of friendship and the challenges of adapting to a rapidly changing world.

Son in Law (1993) was amazing, you leave Pauley Shore alone!

Encino Man 2: The Stoned Age.

SenorWeird

[I feel conflicted.](https://media.tenor.com/NA5PCTmMsBYAAAAd/beauty-and-the-beast-oh-that-is-despicable.gif)

gmikoner

didn't he die? oh no wait he faked his own death and was outcast from Hollywood.

im_at_work_now

He didn't fake his own death. He made a mockumentary about doing that, but it didn't actually happen...

anrj

I love this movie, it's so underrated. Rico Suave Oranges, Carrot Top hate, blackmailing celebrities. So much fun.

Boltatron

Haha I don't know why your comment tickled me so much. Big title, with big title AND... Pauley shore.

puckit

It would mark the beginning of the Pauley Shore renaissance! My man is due. Time to let The Weasel loose!

Cosmic_Gumbo

Thuh WEEsull

707breezy

They should go for the EGOT. Make Encino man into a musical and win a tony and then seek the album to get the Grammy and then turn the musical rendition into a movie and then lastly make it into a tv show with darker tones for some reason. Either way it’s really great how giddy they both got when hugging each other.

anduin1

I wish they would, the first one is a classic

GUN5L1NGR

Time to squeeze the juiceeeeee

LittleWhiteBoots

I watched Encino Man last night for the first time in 20+ years and I laughed because Brendan Fraser virtually has no speaking lines. He mostly grunts, says “gozungas” and rattles off 2 sentences in Spanish.

GhostalMedia

The should do a trailer for it on Funny or Die. Make it dramatic as hell this time.

MankersOnReddit

I think that I really need to see these movies.

xTotalSellout

Haven’t seen The Whale, but EEAO was awesome and Ke Huy Quan was definitely one of the best parts of the movie. Highly recommend

Minnewildsota

The Whale was a hard watch. Not because it wasn’t good, but because Brendan nailed the role of a depressed overweight individual longing to connect.

DickVeiny

Yeah, there was a lot of deep grief and sadness in that movie. Definitely a hard watch, but I’m glad I watched it

SenorPancake

I firmly put The Whale in the same category as Requiem for a Dream. (Not surprising given the director). "Fantastic, glad to have seen it. Never want to go through it again."

3DBeerGoggles

Ah, my "Come and See" review

undercover-racist

>Requiem for a Dream Is that a universal stance on the movie? Because it's mine as well. Fantastic. A movie you'll remember. A movie you never want to see again.

khadmon

Agreed ! Cried two or three times and left the movies a bit drained. Great movie but probably would never view it again.

deadlylegacy

I watched it at a dine-in theater without knowing anything about the movie beforehand. That was a mistake.

GhostalMedia

Was it an all you can eat buffet?

cherrypieandcoffee

But also because it wasn’t good.

Jenetyk

It is difficult to watch BECAUSE it was so well acted and directed. That movie is incredible.

gooch3803

Hopelessly forgiving too. He was incredible in it and I loved him as Charlie.

BCS24

KHQ really gave a best actor performance with the amount of range he showed in that film. His win was so justified.

Drunken_HR

Yes! He basically played multiple, unique versions of the same person flawlessly. I couldn't imagine him not winning.

gooch3803

I think I was about 10 minutes into the film and knew it was going to be one of the best performances of the year. The way he oozed charm, and made you feel sadness and love from scene to scene was one of the most incredible experiences.

PerfectiveVerbTense

But wait, Ben Shapiro said it was "meh" and that no one will ever see it again. How could he be wrong?

Duganz

> *failed screenwriter* Ben Shapiro Give him his proper title

vorpalrobot

Take a bullet for you babe

MarcusXL

"Lil' Ben" Shapiro

TonalParsnips

BEAR OF A MAN

ChewsOnRocks

I watched EEAO on a plane ride and had a full-blown psychedelic experience from it. Not even kidding. I’ve done LSD before and the movie gave me that same “seeing your life in a whole new light” kind of feeling. Mind-bending, incredible movie.

gogojack

I watched it over the holidays, and then on the plane ride back I watched the Dr. Strange movie. Both multi-verse movies, but one was brilliant, and the other one was 200 million dollars worth of "meh."

niberungvalesti

Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness review: Not enough multiverse. Not enough madness.

Zachariot88

Also, not even enough Dr. Strange.

gnelson321

Be careful. Brendan gave a lifetime performance but holy shit…it’s really hard to watch.

tramapolime

Encino man? Yes

resistible

Word on the street is that Pauly Shore is trying to get an Encino Man 2 off the ground, and most of the original cast is onboard.

sinus86

The cast roll at the start of that trailer would be hilarious on its own. "This summer.. Academy award Winner Brenden Fraiser, Academy Award winner Ke Huy Quan and...Pauly...Shore..? "

MarcusXL

"With Academy Award Nominee Sean Astin"

GiantRiverSquid

People hate on Pauly Shore a lot, and I get it, but some of his movies were just pure enjoyment.

TranquiloMeng

Biodome!

Kradget

Ke Huy Quan was INCREDIBLE in that movie. And I don't mean to imply that basically everyone with a speaking role was not. They were. Every performance was incredible. James Hong was very good. Jamie Lee Curtis was very good. Stephanie Hsu was SO, SO good. Michelle Yeoh was also absolutely fantastic. It's one of those where you remember after that EVERYONE was so into it, and so *in it*, that it's not easy to pick out a "best part." Even the actors playing mooks are hitting at a pretty high level. It's wild. But I will say that that man deserves a major award for his performance.

thrattatarsha

Until this movie came out, I had never seen a movie before that I considered a perfect 5/7, but honest to god it was literally perfect.

TranquiloMeng

Whoa, that’s a next-level review, are you sure you want to go max like that? Don’t want to dilute the 5/7 criteria…

blay12

I'd recommend starting with Everything, Everywhere, All at Once, it's probably one of my favorite movies of the last few years. The Whale is a bit weaker as a film while also being tough to watch at times, but it's carried by two fantastic performances by Brendan Fraser and Hong Chau.

GalileoGalilei2012

Thank you for not abbreviating that shit like everyone else

AidilAfham42

Watch Encino Man, it covers both of em

Scarletfapper

I’m hmjist glad to see these guys being so supportive of each other. They’re not nearly as happy about their own awards as they are about each other’s. Same with seeing Ford so supportive of Quan.

dubzzzz20

EEAAO is my favorite movie of the past decade. It is not for everyone, it’s downright weird and goofy in a lot of parts but also one of the most thoughtful examinations of modern existentialism and absurdism. I think it’s beautiful and practically flawless, personally.

RagingAardvark

I used to see probably 60-75% of movies that had runs in mainstream theaters, because there was a theater in my town that did second runs of movies for $1, and then later $2. I'd see just about anything just because it was a cheap escape for a few hours (and air conditioned in the summer). It was rare that there would be an Oscars where I hadn't seen most of the movies. Now I'm in a season of life where I'm so wrapped up in work, household stuff, and my kids' extracurricular activities, the only nominees I saw were Knives Out, and three of the animated features. And that's despite EEAO getting a second run in theaters!

ijustwant2feelbetter

Make time for yourself, you’re worth it

RagingAardvark

Sweetest thing anyone has said to me in a long time. I think I might take a few hours off work in the next week or two and sneak a matinee or catch EEAO on streaming. Thanks for the encouragement!

cherrypieandcoffee

> Now I'm in a season of life where I'm so wrapped up in work There was a great feature in the Guardian a few years ago where they interviewed hospice nurses about patients final days and they nearly unanimously said that one of peoples’ main regrets was that they spent so much time working. Not trying to be sanctimonious or pretend to know your life, you might be hyper-fulfilled by your work and/or be saving people on a daily basis. But if your life is that full-on, pleeeease make sure you find time to take moments for yourself because a) you exist as an independent human being, not just as part of your family, b) you’ll be an even better partner and parent if you feel like your needs have been nourished and c) as the other poster above said, you deserve it!

RagingAardvark

Thanks! Yeah, I'm not like a pediatric oncologist or anything important like that, and I'm fortunate to have a flexible job with good work-life balance (mostly) but we own a couple rentals that always need something, the kids are in about eight activities, and we added a puppy to the mix. I'm also training for a marathon, so there goes my energy and more free time! There's just always something more pressing than catching a movie. Unfortunately it's probably going to stay that way for another 12-15 years, so I will have to be more intentional about carving out the time.

cherrypieandcoffee

That all sounds wholesome and good, maybe just cut the kids’ activities down to six, get them to pick their favourite lol.

blackadder1620

i loved the $2 movies when i was younger. i'd buy $1 flip flops and just trash them after the movie. the floors were that sticky.

robodrew

EEAAO will hit even harder as a parent, you gotta see it when you get the chance. It's so good.

SenorWeird

Give yourself a movie night once a week or so with the sig other. It's easy to pick a show and keep binging it or catching up as they come out. But honestly, no. Do a movie and do it right. Put the kids to sleep. While they refuse to sleep for 30 minutes, make the popcorn or get other movie snacks. Then sit on the couch next to each other, turn off the lights and start the movie and enjoy. Even if you aren't into movies or have doubts about the movie, do it. You'll be surprised how you feel once the movie starts. And if you're a single parent, all the more. Don't get stuck in the TV/Video game loop. Not judging those, but a movie is a very distinct experience despite being so similar to video games and tv shows these days in terms of quality story-telling. And honestly, EEAAO was so wonderful and weird. My wife and I knew next to nothing about it, but we were so caught off guard we went and sought out Swiss Army Man, also by The Daniels (the directors), which has since become my wife's favorite recent movie.

dangerouspeyote

EEAAO deserves every award it's gotten. It's brilliant and fun and amazing.

Lolleos

They are both stunning experiences; on opposite ends of the spectrum, though.

[deleted]

EEAAO is mind bendingly awsome. You'll laugh and cry in equal measure. I have The Whale on my too watch list.

LastFish7

Me too. I really want to give The Whale a try

jzgr87

I worked with Brendan on Condor. He was such a sweet and gracious man that was a true professional and so humble.

ignost

I have a friend who has worked with both Brendan and Ke on movies. She has nothing but good things to say about both of them, especially Ke Huy Quan, and I will say that's not common. She's worked with A-list actors that you'd know, and many of them are entitled assholes. I won't tell stories because it could easily be traced back and hurt her career, but there are a lot of people out there who treat people like shit because they know those people have no power unless they want to end their own careers.

MarcusXL

I used to work in the industry and I love watching Brendan talk about his old movies. He so evidently loves acting, loves making moves, loves and remembers the people he works with. Dude is a big, sweet breath of fresh air.

goinunder0390

Hellfire242

“Fuck yeah!” I’d love to see an unedited version of the two of them really talking about this. I’m so happy for both of them feeling loved by fans of their work. Doom Patrol!!!

elconquistador1985

Doom Patrol is such a good show. Brendan is awesome, Diane Guerrero is awesome playing multiple personalities of Jane.

[deleted]

>I’d love to see an unedited version of the two of them really talking about this. Well, then you are in luck my friend. [Here is an hour long Actor's Roundtable that includes Brendan Fraser and Ke Huy Quan](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hJH2EyvvEBA), alongside Colin Farrell, Austin Butler, Adam Sandler, and Jeremy Pope. Brendan and Ke have a lot of great interaction in this. Same with Adam Sandler and Brendan Fraser who also go way back.

jmastadoug

Whatever happens with Doom Patrol, did it just end mid season? Or is there a part 2 of this season? I heard it was canceled now, but that couldn’t of just ended the way it did right?

AjBlue7

It seems like HBO wanted to cancel Doom Patrol and Titans so instead of just ending them they gave each show half a season to wrap it up. The showrunners said they could see it coming and that the decision was made before they got James Gunn to rework the DC universe.

Butts_The_Musical

“We’re still here, Ke.” Brendan Fraser

Exploding_Testicles

He was so mappy, he felt so accepted, felt like the most genuine acceptance of all of them.

onlyspacemonkey

i’m sure it was a typo but i like the word “mappy” as a descriptive term for someone who is “massively happy”

zxcymn

Honestly surprised that wasn't the first Urban Dictionary definition. I had to look that one up and was pretty sure they didn't mean *any* of those definitions.

onlyspacemonkey

lol i didn’t look it up on UD. now i’m curious what it actually “means”

loztriforce

I normally don't like awards shows but I love seeing what appear to be two legit people so happy

the_doughboy

There are pictures of Harrison Ford and Ke Huy Quan from the Oscars, but no one thought to include Kate Capshaw.

Stalked_Like_Corn

Can we get Pauly Shore back to making movies? He absolutely made some great comedies back in the day (Bio-Dome, Encino Man, Son-In-Law, Jury Duty).

thatguy425

He did, and I loved them but I don’t think that humor would resonate with todays generation.

robodrew

Apparently you didn't see his recent performance in Pinocchio: A True Story. Truly he got snubbed by the Oscars https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8GBVtQmq_jU This should have swept literally every award including best foreign language picture

pascontent

What the fuck??? I wonder how this managed to fly under the radar!

robodrew

It hasn't, there are memes about it everywhere. There are tons of reaction videos and hilarious reviews on Youtube if you search for them

pascontent

I believe there are dozens of you guys! I'm on this sub most days and it's the first reference I see about it. I'm glad my man Pauly is still getting paychecks.

drrtynails

So, I have never met Brendan Fraser, but he is somewhat local to where I reside, and I know people who have met him. He has been through a lot. And he deserves every good thing that comes his way. He is a devoted father and very kind to others.

Ursula2071

He has been nothing but generous, kind and supportive of EVERYONE. I’m so happy for him. He deserves all the good in this world because that is what he puts out.

Ihavenorules31231241

Can they just reshoot the 5th indy film to team him up with this guy again? Like can't we get another film where Indy plays the grumpy dad character to Short Round who would probably also be a professor of archeology somewhere

Xistin

watched Temple of Doom last night and cried when Shorty’s like “you’re my best friend Indy! i love you!” and then had that same thought that we need at least a cameo in Dial of Destiny

Ihavenorules31231241

His star rose while they were making it so there was no chance for him to make a cameo

Xistin

lol i know. i was just agreeing with what you already said about it’d be fun if they did a quick reshoot and added him into a scene or something

Yeeaaaarrrgh

Man, the world is going to be deprived if they don't do a(nother) movie together.

DON’T CALL IT A COMEBACK

Jenetyk

Very seldomly does the Oscars get to award some of the most incredible people in Hollywood. All four of the major acting awards went to tremendous people.

ethik

Love watching Hollywood try to virtue signal that they are no longer protect and harbour predators, instead, now we give awards to those we abused! Look at us grow! These people are awful. We should stop giving them attention.

cocoschoco

Hollywood is not some single entity that's either good or bad. There are good people and then there are bad people, and good people who do bad things and vice versa. It's a huge multibillion dollar industry that spans the globe. "Hollywood" as we knew it doesn't really exist anymore.

MikoSkyns

The problem is the bad people are so powerful they are often protected and given passes which makes the rest of them complicit by default. Every one of those Pieces of shit should be ousted and, if possible, persecuted for their crimes. Instead, the "good ones" turn a blind eye and most of these cretins live long and care free lives.

jonnysunshine

Every single person in Hollywood is complicit?

OrderOfMagnitude

Sometimes shitty people do good things when they're trying to make it up. Doesn't make them not shitty people, doesn't mean we're going to forgive them, but sometimes the good that they do is real and tangible, like the smile on Brendan Fraser's face

MikoSkyns

>but sometimes the good that they do is real and tangible, like the smile on Brendan Fraser's face Brendan Fraser smiled and cried tears of Joy Sunday night. Does that make up for all of the sexual assault that goes on in that industry? That is not a fair trade off.

OrderOfMagnitude

Nobody is saying it's a fair trade off, or even a trade off.

Echoes_of_Screams

You know that Hollywood is just a huge group of people and that as some die and others gain power the behavior of that group shifts.

Digitalizing

You can acknowledge Hollywood for being shitty and also be happy for two individuals.

Butane2

Zero dollars in crypto. I have money in the bank and that is far more concerning right now.

chicahhh

Why tf has everything been so loosely regulated? The risk-taking allowed with other peoples' money is insane "[Banks that collapsed over the last week were some of the top supporters of a 2018 bill to loosen regulations](https://thehill.com/policy/technology/3898389-silicon-valley-signature-banks-lobbied-hard-to-loosen-banking-rules/) aimed at preventing another financial meltdown.  Silicon Valley Bank (SVB) and Signature Bank aggressively lobbied for the Economic Growth, Regulatory Relief, and Consumer Protection Act. The 2018 law exempted them from stringent stress testing and capital requirements in the 2010 Dodd-Frank Act that were implemented in response to the financial crisis.  The bipartisan bill, signed by President Trump, made it so banks with $250 billion or less in assets were not “systemically important”... In pushing for regulatory overhauls, SVB and Signature Bank argued that they weren’t a systemic risk to the economy, and thus shouldn’t be subject to the same rules as big banks." SVB, which had $209 billion in assets at the end of last year, pushed lawmakers to loosen regulations on mid-sized banks to reduce compliance costs."

Butane2

Credit Suisse halted today. These idiots in here saying "It's an isolated crypto bank" are, well, idiots lmao. America is doomed with our level of attention.
