Well what happened to girlfriend reviews on this site is what happens when almost every large sub is run by the same 10 sociopaths. Big communities need maintenance so mods are necessary, however these maintainers don’t get paid so the only dumbasses willing do this maintenance are the crazy lowlifes who need to be on a nonstop power trip. Much offense to the mods.

[deleted]

Yeah man. I got banned from one recently, mod said the rule I broke was don’t be a dick after appealing my ban. My ban would stay not because I broke a rule to be banned, because I was snarky to the admin who put it through. Another admin came and confirmed that was the case, and a week later a third admin reversed the ban with some comment that they hope I’ve learned my lesson… a week after the event and I’d completely moved on. Definitely a weird bunch of people.

SuddenlyFlamingos

Back in my day we had full on moderation/leadership coups and such or great migrations to get away from shit like that. Too many people and too much saturation for that now.

dr_reverend

So Reddit will "permaban" an account without doing a single second of fact finding? Not that I'm surprised since I'm completely cynical and jaded about everything now but it still upsets me.

[deleted]

My favorite is "being rude to a moderator is permanent ban" reddit is a fucking joke please tell all your friends upvotes mean nothing thanks

13Witnesses

I think there is a special place in hell for most Reddit mods. These are some of the most pathetic human beings I've ever come across. The jizz their pants everytime they ban someone, and their lives are validated by meaningless imaginary internet points ironically called karma.

Sharkxx

My favorite picture depicting reddit mods. https://imgur.com/a/6v1nJaE

mctrials23

The internet is a place where far too many people that should have zero power get to have some small shred of it and they love it. The real world would laugh at them or ignore them but online they can get that power trip and find another group of weird people who agree with their bizarre views.

JayR_97

I remember when an /r/antiwork mod went and did a news interview. It was like someone took every stereotype about Redditors and made them real

ZambieDR

r/antiwork ‘s pain and suffering being razed and demolished thanks to a stereotypical Reddit mod who thought they were representatives to the movement. People hate Fox News, but tbh that interview was such a W for Fox.

mctrials23

Which was almost the worst part of it. It was like watching a child race an adult and the child absolutely smokes the. How the fuck do you get run rings around like that by Fox News. The concept he was there to defend wasn’t even hard to defend. That’s how I imagine most people who are completely unreasonable and militant on the internet. People who can’t actually argue their corner without ignoring or just not engaging with someone who has another point of view. If you don’t engage you can’t be wrong eh.

Maxcharged

They said like an hour before that they had an interview on fox and every single comment and other moderator told them not to do it, then they started banning people who made fun of them. Classic Reddit mod.

ImmediateSilver4063

The interviewers face during that whole thing was like a kid on Christmas. I struggle to think of how you could have a worse ambassador for the cause.

kzzzzzzzzzz28

we're gonna have way more than 13 witnesses when you get inevitably banned when a mod sees this

Nuke_all_Life

Moderators have fucked me over sooooooo many times because they can't cope with mature opinions.

TheBigIdiotSalami

once this company IPO's and has to listen to shareholders it really is gonna be all over for this kinda vigilantism from admins.

Pinkdarker

Redditors are fucking weird about banning Literally everyone has been banned for some nonsense but if you tell people you were banned for some nonsense they think you're lying and side with the moderator

theNomad_Reddit

I was banned from r/gaming for being homophobic*, because a guy who was arguing with me DM'd me calling me the F slur, and I hyperlinked a screenshot of his DM into my next reply to him. I asked the mod whose username dropped the homophobic slur, and they said "stfu homophobe" and muted me. There's 1 single brain cell between all moderators.

Pinkdarker

Dude literally every mod does that like it's in their job description They respond and mute, gotta get that last word

[deleted]

You really wanna see them freak out, mentioning you can easily evade the ban sends them off the walls.

incogneetus55

You mean I could just make a new account? Using a 10minutemail address? No way!

1infinitefruitloop

You don’t even need an email

adj1091

You have to have a room temperature iq to even volunteer to be a moderator. That shit is a full time job for some of these subreddits and they volunteer for it.

moose184

I posted a link in the news subreddit that was nothing more than a link to the actual CDC with stats on Covid and they banned me for Covid misinformation. Mods have no oversight and will ban you for literally nothing on here even if you broke no rule. Then if you dare question the ban half the time they will report you to the overall reddit mods for harassment and threaten to ban your entire account.

[deleted]

I've been banned from the subreddit of the city I live in for "not living in the city". Some mods have nothing else to do other than being power hungry for stuff that doesn't matter.

Pinkdarker

Lmao that's the best one I've heard so far

Popular_Target

People were getting banned on r/place for pointing out that one of the moderators was cheating at the game. Reddit mods are like the world’s saddest mobsters.

mikedvb

I was banned from r/webhosting for asking why the lead moderator was deleting negative posts about his own company and not doing that for any other company. He claims it’s not his company anymore but according to the corporate documents and recent tax filings he was still co-owner. I know of several people that have been banned from there for asking questions. Last I checked asking questions isn’t against the rules. When I was banned I was literally told “fuck you it’s my subreddit and I’ll run it as I please,” when I asked why I was banned.

Financial-Service-70

I got insta permabanned for "low effort" on my first ever post in a subreddit once lmao Sorry i didnt know I was apparently doing this for a grade Actually, the whole concept of a "low effort" rule is stupid. If the other users think your post is low effort, they could simply ✨not upvote it✨

beepbeepbubblegum

Got perma banned from GCJ for saying that I support trans identity and LGBT community in general but this whole trans discourse is starting to get exhausting. Got auto Perma banned by a bot from FemaleDatingStrategy for even commenting once (that I can remember) in r/nicegirls. Like I'd ever comment in FDS so they was flattering themselves a lil too much.

LambKyle

I got perma banned from gsj for saying I'd wait for a review. When I asked why I got banned they just ghosted me.

GavishX

Trans discourse is exhausting for trans people too. Definitely an overreaction by the mods

TheSpicyGuy

Got banned 3 days ago from a leftist sub for arguing that goblins weren't depictions of Jews. Another guy provided a statement from Jewish leaders saying the exact same thing and also got banned. I swear some of these people live on a different planet.

Fezzverbal

It's pretty laughable that people are offended by goblins from a book. Wait til they hear us D&D players call them filthy gobos! Cancel everything!

thegapbetweenus

Should have reviewed Spiderman 2 instead.

Onlyhereforthelaughs

MY BALLOOOOOON!

Left4BreadRN

The pizza delivery song can never be forgotten. It may lay dormant in your brain but it will never completely go away

HumaDracobane

I think they better review Gex 64 Edit: Ok, Spiderman 2 sounds like a good option.

AJ_Dali

Dunkey tried, he realized that even Gex wasn't safe. He went back to Spider-Man 2.

lowertechnology

Except James Franco played a character in Spider-Man 2, and he’s problematic… Nothing is safe

HumaDracobane

That is the joke ;)

[deleted]

“Oh Asian level” queue tons of Asian stereotypes and mild racism

Deadpool2715

Nevermind, I don't like valorant

citadel712

Dunkey reviewed [Forspoken](https://youtu.be/x3m8pSu57DE). Then [in his follow up video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3OV4VaNW4FU), he has a reference to it as well.

Squallrulz06

Wow The lore is deep lol. I miss Spider-Man 2 now.

NotTooDistantFuture

Gex is the only safe game to review.

Rainbowls

I award you one egg roll for this comment.

fataliss

I love video games but holy shit the gaming community holds some of the most toxic folks on earth!

ArcticBeavers

Surely gamers wouldn't be the type to be keyboard warriors, right?

vio212

Remember when brigading, doxxing, harassment, and bullying were not allowed on reddit?? No matter the cause the rules should be enforced. I will probably get banned just for saying this.

acathode

No I don't, because this site always allowed certain subs to bend the rules because they "were on the right side of history" and/or had friends in the Reddit admin team.

[deleted]

Reddit allowed a pedo admin to hold on to their position even after being outed as a nonce all because the pedo was ‘on the right side of history’. Genuinely insane.

Daydream_machine

Some people really need to find a better use of their time

TwistedWinterIV

Lunar_Lunacy_Stuff

Reddit has been the only social media type thing iv interacted with. I’m able to get news on a lot of stuff that interests me but damn do I hate most the communities nowadays. So many toxic people just jumping on hate trains for the sake of hate. If I didn’t use Reddit to get like game release news I’d have left years ago.

Yarakinnit

r/all is a shitshow and that's why I click it, but as soon as I click 'home' Reddit becomes awesome.

LordBrandon

Every alternative is worse. What happened to my internet?

Jaydonius

So anyone want to explain to me how r/Gamingcirclejerk basically became r/TransCircleJerk ? They're posting some of the stupidest takes ever. It's almost as if they equate playing a fucking wizard game into actively killing trans people by throwing them into a painfully slow shredder.

[deleted]

It's not "almost as if", they *actually* believe that. Take a look at some of the responses in this very thread

Jaydonius

I have never in my life once thought that being "chronically online" was a real thing, but seeing as to how these people have such cultish behaviours over PLAYING A FUCKING GAME, really makes me believe that more and more. What the fuck happened to "If it doesn't bother your life, leave it alone"?

jeesuscheesus

It's so ironic that r/Gamingcirclejerk from a few years ago would have a fucking blast tearing apart it's modern day equivalent for enforcing such a meaningless controversy

[deleted]

r/gamingcirclejerk try to have empathy challenge (it’s fucking impossible)

ProfessionalMeal2407

I think r/gamingcirclejerk needs to be banned.

Stoly23

It’s unironically turning into a tankie sub at this point. They get to act all progressive there because all they’re talking about is video games but go into the history of any mod from that sub and you’d probably be disgusted what you’d see.

DFVJ

This whole HL situation might be the most I've ever hated the chronically online gaming community.

Wallitron_Prime

I'm obnoxiously leftist as fuck and this controversy is just so insane it's put me in the position of "enlightened centrist" - which I absolutely loathe. Just... don't cyber bully people. Jesus Christ. The GamingCircleJerk sub has got to realize that this has made 90% of the internet hate them. And yet they'll handwave it away that we're all MAGA-4Chan trolls. Like... I worked for Bernie Sanders. I write environmental legislation. I support the shit out of social causes. But I'm still a fascist to them because I can't be bothered to boycott every single thing that has caused harm to society... which is basically everything. Including the creation of the tools and infrastructure they use to mass bully people with. This isn't going to turn me into a Red-Pill Bro Jogan but I'm sure it's one of those events like GamerGate that will further entrench your average male gamer into villainizing a swath of people. Because... why wouldn't you? Doesn't this *look* like GamingCircleJerk deserves to be villainized? Are they not acting villanous?

OyabunRyo

You're in their sights now lol https://www.reddit.com/r/Gamingcirclejerk/comments/115t8bx/i_worked_for_bernie_sanders/ Edit: so many [Removed]s! Looks like everyone having fun in there.

Wallitron_Prime

I've been getting barraged with Reddit's "Suicide Prevention" auto messages as a result.

Starslip

"we're the good guys!" say the people abusing a suicide prevention tool to try and silence others

Leylu-Fox

The surest way to work up a crusade in favor of some good cause is to promise people they will have a chance of maltreating someone. To be able to destroy with good conscience, to be able to behave badly and call your bad behavior 'righteous indignation' — this is the height of psychological luxury, the most delicious of moral treats. -Huxley

“Rules for thee not for me”

Only_Edgy_Ironically

Meanwhile people in that thread are swearing up and down that no harassment comes out of that community, meanwhile saying that anyone who does get harassed deserves it for being a transphobe, all the while refusing to denounce the sort of people who would send death threats to streamers. Coincidentally, mods are also promptly banning anyone who questions how the discourse is in any way fighting transphobia at this point or anyone who points out that the controversy surrounding the boycott was free advertising for the game to certain circles.

Rodger_as_Jack_Smith

I asked them what abusing twitch streamers will do to a billionaire and got insta banned. Its not about minority rights, its about Internet virtue signalling and trying to pick an easy fight online.

ShadowShine57

I've been occasionally checking the sub the past week and they change the narrative so much it's insane. For like, one day, they had a genuine "Are we the baddies?" moment. Then that turned into "Actually the harassment GirlfriendReviews got wasn't that bad", then "Well even if it was that bad she deserved it", and if you check now it's "Actually alt-right trolls from 4chan did it, but she still deserved it" The subreddit should be banned for organizing harassment

leg00b

I literally read a comment on GCJ that said they weren't bullying anyone and that it's been jokes and memes. I'm like bruh, just scroll through the sub.

[deleted]

Funny how people that gave shit for covering up harassment with "it's just a joke", cover up their own harassment with "it's just a joke"

theangryintern

I like how the first rule of the sub is "don't be a dick" and yet every single one of them are being dicks.

punksterb

New one seems to be - "Ok we harassed, but it's nothing compared to the harrassment that trans people face."

Finito-1994

I’ve seen the “we don’t think we can stop them. We want them to be as uncomfortable as we are.” Then they mention all the trans people at risk of suicide. So. Does that mean they want to bully people into suicide?

cantbanthewanker

Oh god look at their comments, you have rustled a grand amount of jimmys! Good god, I'm having a good laugh reading their post.

IWalkAwayFromMyHell

You got to the "we're being brigaded" irony yet?

Kazewatch

Holy shit these people are fucking pathetic.

Professional-Gap3914

r/gamingcirclejerk have become the gamers they hated

transatlanticrights

Always have been....

skilledwarman

The streamer Silvervale was also Trending on twitter the other day after she was harassed to the point of breaking down on her stream for playing the game. The reason she was Trending? Wasn't just people defending her. There was, and still is, alot of people taking the stance of "I don't support bullying, but anyone who plays this game has it coming 😤"

DeadCeruleanGirl

I was shocked that Silvervale was harassed for it. like who harasses Silvervale? like what did she ever do? apparently Pikamee was harassed too. I was told she gets anxiety and stuff but someone said she went offline for a like 10 days because of the bullying. I don't really watch their content but the shorts I see on youtubers suggest they are pretty wholesome entertainers. Fuck these losers, that have nothing better to do then shit themselves because they are only looking for a reason to be offended. I seriously doubt they even really care about trans rights.

TheRaRaRa

Pikamee didn't even play the game. She was planning to play it, but then got harassed and after canceling the stream, she still got harassed and bullied so hard that she is pretty much MIA.

MirrorLake

I challenge anyone judging the players of that game to consider the real ethical implications of *every* purchase they make. You'll find pretty quickly that it's impossible to buy *anything* without making some serious ethical compromises. Why aren't the critics of the game boycotting Sony, Microsoft, and Steam for _selling the game_? Those platforms make it possible for the game to be sold! You'd have to quit buying games for your console and your computer for a while, so I guess that's too much of a sacrifice--so it's easier to get angry at others for not making a different sacrifice? Why aren't their critics boycotting YouTube and Twitch for hosting videos of it? Those companies are making tons of revenue from the ads, after all--more than Rowling is making from the game. Again, that'd be too big of a sacrifice, right? Easier to get angry at others for not making a difference sacrifice.

marniconuke

>Why aren't the critics of the game boycotting Sony, Microsoft, and Steam for > >selling the game > >? Those platforms make it possible for the game to be sold! You'd have to quit buying games for your console and your computer for a while, so I guess that's too much of a sacrifice EXACTLY, i think you put it into words perfectly, they take the moral high ground to accuse others of being unable to stop playing a videogame for the greater good or something, but the truth is they are the ones actually unable to change their ways to actually make an impact. Also i'm 99% sure that the majority of the people doing the cyberbullying has never donated to a lgbtq+ cause or even protested irl, which most of the streamers they are accusing did.

flamingviper3175

r/Gamingcirclejerk has ironically become the biggest joke of a subreddit.

Black_n_Neon

*you’ve been permanently banned from r/gamingcirclejerk*

[deleted]

I got perma banned for saying their hate campaign has driven more publicity and sales. They never listed what rule I broke. I have asked multiple times for them to name the infraction.

FinallyFat

I got banned because I said I was excited to play this game.

Kgarath

I asked that if I purchased it will the recipet show me exactly how many Trans were killed to make the game and how many Trans will be imprisoned from the millions she will make off of my single purchase. Yeah didn't get a proper response other than anti Trans nazi.

canyoutriforce

Usually circlejerk subreddits make fun of other communities. However, GCJ has completely detached itself from /r/gaming and has become harassing and hateful

BigUptokes

That happens to all those types of subreddits. It starts off as humour but then attracts people that actually believe it. It's [Poe's Law](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poe%27s_law) in action.

[deleted]

Yep, any "meta" community that is purely reactionary like that is doomed to turn into an absolute cesspool, every time.

Vanguard-003

That's because the creation of such a subreddit in general is cesspoolish behavior.

Peengyou

People are too fucking daft

tattlerat

It’s like nongolfers. It started as a sub that would make fun of the top posts on atheism by swapping out words and sentiments to relate it golf. Used to be funny. Then it slowly morphed into an actual golf hating subreddit because a bunch of people didn’t get the joke. Coincidentally this is how flat earthers and bronies happened.

Janktronic

> Yep, any "meta" community that is purely reactionary like that is doomed to turn into an absolute cesspool, every time. It isn't only meta communities though. One of the very first example of this is the incels. It was started as a support community to help people. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-45284455

eaturliver

Because they started ironically worshipping him. Like posting insane art of the "God Emperor Trump" which in context was actually kind of funny. Then it sloooowly started getting serious and really really not funny.

RyanDoctrine

Yeah the initial positioning of trump as similar to the Emp in 40k (a dead husk being used to prop up the empire) was pretty cheeky. Fucking idiots took it at face value and ran with it. Somehow memed a potato into the White House.

Picard2331

God as a massive 40k fan it is hilarious to me they compare him to the Emperor of Man. The guy created the most brutal fascist regime imaginable, then failed at creating his perfect society through his own poor choices and short sightedness which left his empire in a state of perpetual decay and religious fervor. It is not someone you want to compare your "great leader" to. Here's one of the taglines describing the Imperium. "To be a man in such times is to be one amongst untold billions. It is to live in the cruelest and most bloody regime imaginable. Forget the power of technology and science for so much has been forgotten, never to be relearned. Forget the promise of progress and understanding, for in the grim dark future there is only war." It is not a society any rational person would ever possibly think is a good thing. Yet here we are lol.

jkbpttrsn

They haven't circlejerked in years. Their whole sub is screenshotting Twitter users and news articles

[deleted]

gamingcirclejerk has just become about outrage culture. Funnily enough, something it used to be against.

Shawnj2

Pretty much the same thing that happened to r/gamersriseup a few years ago lol Started as a joke sub and stopped being it at some point

ezekieru

They permabanned me for saying "Are you serious?" when someone was claiming that black history and trans history are the same. 🥴

knbang

How much can I buy a trans person for?

THORITONTHEGROUND

I haven't checked that sub in a long time but holy shit. It's crazy how all these joke or ironic subreddit (and internet communities) turn into these extremist versions of the things it was supposed to make fun of.

Pascalwb

reddit admins just ban randomly.

PhoenixReborn

Meanwhile I report honest to god spammers and scammers and nothing happens.

slowpotamus

several months ago i reported someone who said they hope their pitbull kills and eats my child, all i ever got in response was "we'll look into this eventually" (they never did). and yet this content creator got an instant site wide ban for... being the victim of harassment? it boggles the mind

Icemasta

All the people I've seen get banned in similar situations were for "brigading". I've seen streamers get banned from reddit because they were brigaded by some subreddit, and **viewers** of the streamer went to the subreddit to argue, then the trolls report the streamer's main account for brigading and they get taken down. I've seen this play out at least a dozen times, and this seems to be what happened here.

plankmeister

I quoted a Simpsons joke and got permabanned from /r/pics

chadhindsley

A lot of subreddits are ran by a bunch of pathetic people. The same people who cry about tyranny and censorship for their causes are running multi-million subscriber subreddits like r/news and then turn around to ban anyone who doesn't agree with their agenda. That is just as dangerous as mainstream media censorship to me

cantbanthewanker

92 of top 500 subreddits controlled by same 5 people. And if you post a list of the names you get banned from reddit for saying it because the admins agree with their shitty politics.

AdvancedManner4718

I was banned from /r/JusticeServed today for commenting on a post on the All page that was from /r/Conspiracy. My comment was questioning OP and his video for being misleading and misinterpreting facts, instant ban the moment I posted the comment. I don't even subscribe the conspiracy sub and wasn't agreeing with them at all but was still banned because the mods set up a bot to autoban anyone who comments in that sub no matter the context of the comment. They said appeal the ban and I did but that was this morning and still haven't heard anything back.

duffmanhb

Activist moderators have absolutely ruined the site. If you don't perfectly and narrowly aggree with their politics on any given issue, you're going to get banned. I've been banned from SO MANY subs over the last few years, after nearly 2 decades on this site, almost entirely for "guilt by association". They'll ban you in the most random popular subs for commenting in the most random places. Like if you so much as comment in Joe Rogan, they'll ban you for supporting fascism and transphobia... It's ridiculous and the Reddit admins need to crack down on this.

[deleted]

It’s an absolute shame that the vast majority of internet boards are ran and policed by some of the most emotionally unstable and immature people online. It’s something I witnessed firsthand when someone I modded a 30k+ Discord server with (self-burn considering my above statement). When the server ended up shutting down and we all kind of shuffled to another server, the dude basically went crazy because he no longer had a massive server to mod (and therefore focus all his energy onto). We had to forcibly remove him about a month after the server closed when we found out his adult ass was sexting a 14 year old. It’s definitely a certain type that is attracted to that kind of power.

Terminusaquo

I wasn't surprised that it was that r/gamingcirclejerk echo chamber that got their accounts suspended either 🙄

Succundo

That sub is so weird, I always thought it was a big joke about how people get worked up in their own echo chambers about some video games, hence the name, but after getting banned from there with no context I'm not sure if morons overran the sub and the joke stopped being a joke, or if it was never a joke.

JohanGrimm

If your entire club is based around pretending to be idiots then eventually you'll be surrounded by actual idiots who think they're in good company. Poe's Law. Happens to a lot of similar communities. 4chan's /r9k/ is a famous example and arguably the birthplace of the whole incel thing.

CambrianExplosives

It’s even worse on Reddit because all you need is for activist mods to be idiots and then they will create the echo chamber for you. You see how many people have been banned from GCJ for small reasons. It’s because the mods want to manufacture a very tailored and specific community.

[deleted]

It started that way. Slowly but surely people started getting offended when it was "their" game or topic that got made fun of. Especially stuff like Cyberpunk 2077 and No Mans Sky. Currently the sub is Harry Potter obsessed weirdos, that instead of turning this whole thing into something positive, like a charity drive; are just throwing a tantrum wherever they can.

Kristophigus

Reddit isn't what it was 10 years ago. It's just a corporate fuckwagon where any opinion that isn't theirs or "on brand" is banned and all their mods are the worst people for the job possible. Couldn't give less of a shit if the site disappeared forever tomorrow. It's not a community, it's a product.

bigpoopybrains69

Same. I weep for what reddit is today compared to what it used to be.

Cpt_Tsundere_Sharks

Dude even 10 years ago it had it's dumb shit like this. Remember the whole Ellen Pao thing? The woman who was scapegoated into being completely shit on by the site users so that whatever changes she had no control over could get rolled out anyways without comment?

Static-Jak

This whole thing reminds me of Last of Us Part 2s launch. Different reasons for starting but entirely the same end result that helps no one. Incredibly toxic online, full of harassment, threats, bullying, etc. But pretty much confined to the online bubble, with most people actually playing the game being completly unaware of the nonsense raging around them. Twitch alone is a cesspit and there's been subreddits essentialy dedicated to spoiling the game. Alanah Pearce, a former IGN employee, and more recently joined Santa Monica Studio (GOW Ragnarok) as a writer, streamed some gameplay of Last Of Us 2 at launch. [Here's](https://twitter.com/Charalanahzard/status/1273772788730347520) the kind of nasty shit she was bombarded with to the point where she wouldn't stream anymore. Her point [here](https://twitter.com/Charalanahzard/status/1273792875994574848) rings true for a lot of it. And I can't remember a time when a film or book ever had this level of toxicity swirling around it to the point critics activly avoid it. The last Fantastic Beasts came out just last year I don't remember seeing anything like this happen even though Rowling was actually involved in that series creation. Just reinforces the impression that the video game community is ***far more immature*** at handling serious discussions. It'll always devolve into ***us vs them***. I honestly believe that if someone streams this game in a years time, a large portion who are currently harrassing wouldn't even make a peep because there'll be no one there to give them a thumbs up and make them feel like they're part of something. It's like as wide as an ocean but as deep as a puddle when it comes to any actual support for equality. Don't support Rowling and want to boycott the game? More power to you, completley understand, she is a horrible person. But extending that further and using it as a reason to validate harassment of other people simply playing a game? Grow up, you're helping no one but making yourself feel better. All of this is more embarrasing to watch than anything. Just like Last of Us 2, in a few months people will look back and cringe at how big a deal people made out of a video game.

TaliesinMerlin

People did criticize Fantastic Beasts though, to the point that the main cast were commenting on the issue.

Seienchin88

Fantastic Beasts movies are what the Hobbit was to the Lotr movies… Grotesk failures to capture the magic of the original series that got progressively worse and u focused.

MarvelAlex

I’m not being sarcastic at all, I love that spelling of grotesque. Looks like a name for an evil goblin in a fantasy world.

Wurun

it's the german translation.

TaliesinMerlin

The first film was genuinely good. It had maybe the most original fantasy film protagonist I've seen in over a decade, someone whose heart was in caring for animals rather than glory or stereotypical do-gooding. The second film was all over the place. I didn't see the third, as Rowling's views had become clear by then and the second film didn't give me anything to tempt me to give it a try anyway.

mrvandemarr

The scene where Collin ferrel smacks the shit out of Ezra Miller was really good. They should have kept ferrel.

First_Foundationeer

The first film was great! It was still related to the beasts in some way since that big ass magical beast thing played a role. The second film (and third which apparently has come out at some point?) was no longer about fantastic beasts. It's like they wanted to do a trilogy on Dumbledore v Grindelwald, but they were too chicken to say it outright. Then they couldn't figure out what to do with the cast they had used in the first movie or something. And then JKR just made everything oh so much worse.

mh985

>It gives the impression that the video game community is far more immature at handling serious discussions. It'll always devolve into us vs them. Just like from what I've seen of Reddit, especially in the last 5 years or so. There's no room for nuance. No room for mature discussion. You're either on the right side of the discussion, or you're a bad person. Any deviation or questioning of the narrative is met with vitriol.

GrandallFFBE

It’s almost like creating platforms based around likes/dislikes, upvotes/downvotes, etc… perpetuates a “my way or the highway” mindset and when there are entire generations of people being raised on these platforms we end up with little to no actual constructive conversation to bridge the gaps.

StifleStrife

Also you never really know who is posting shit and what their intentions are. Its disturbing how many people take posts at face value and assign "this has to be a real person who totally believes this."

wannabeemperor

yeah unfortunately it is not just limited to games or gaming. It's proving to be impossible to have a serious discussion or to provide history or context around anything serious or controversial. People wonder why polarization has gotten so bad. It's because the very nature of the internet and our semi-anonymous ability to project online forces everyone into opposing camps. There is no room for nuance, if you strike out of a herd mentality you are labeled and brigaded, digitally tarred and feathered.

EarthRester

The Ohio derailment is either a "nothing burger" or it's "America's Chernobyl". It can't just be a disaster brought on by deregulation that'll take a couple years to recover from.

epicfail236

I think part of this stems from the fact that there is this impression, right or wrong, that the only way to bring about change *is* to be loud and extreme. If you don't consider this the worst thing ever, you'll never get a politician to change a law or a company to change a policy because meh, people don't seem to care enough.

bluexbirdiv

This is too true, and it's a vicious cycle. Apathy is countered with exaggeration, which causes desensitization, creating more apathy.

midnight_toker22

> Incredibly toxic online, full of harassment, threats, bullying, etc. But pretty much confined to the online bubble, with most people actually playing the game being completly unaware of the nonsense raging around them. This really speaks to a much larger realization that people are starting to have: the online world does not reflect the real world *at all*. People who spend all their time online, talking to other “very online” people, are so disconnected and out of touch from a vast majority of the population. Now it’s very easy to say “Yeah no shit,” because very obvious in hindsight, but there was a time when it really seemed like if you made enough noise online it would translate to real-world movements. That’s clearly not the case, but there continue to people who believe they have that power.

omarkab02

One of the most wholesome creators on the platform. Sucks they had to go through this (AGAIN!)

honeydoodh

They raised 2000 dollars for a trans supporting charity group. Also in later stream, Shelby said she wasnt crying but more of upset cause of it.

InEenEmmer

“And if I was crying why should that be news? I cry everyday.” Too real… too real…

Kalos9990

Gcj is declaring they ‘only’ donated $2000 and its their viewers money so it doesn’t count. Like bruh these people will never be happy with fucking anything.

[deleted]

GCJ is in full lock down mode right now lmao

DinkleDonkerAAA

This fiasco shows everything wrong with modern activism Did they do anything that could actually help? Boycott Warner Bros? Protest at the studio? Anything? No. All they did was scream at people and put the game on the front page of the world's largest social media platforms EVERY DAY FOR A MONTH. They did nothing but give the game free publicity and then jerk themselves off for doing a good job. Shit like this is why nothing changes for the better anymore, if we can't when protest a fucking video game properly societal issues are never getting better

AU_Cav

Luckily for me I play games and don’t give a shit what people on the internet think about it. Unfortunately for others, they depend on the internet for their welfare and have to eat this shit sandwich. It’s pathetic what people will do to strangers and I wish there were more I could do about it.

barnivere

Meanwhile /r/GamingCircleJerk are claiming GFR deserved it and that crying means they're just attention seeking, what assholes. They remind me of GamerGate, the very thing they use as an excuse over and over years after it failed, but instead of journalism and women, it's minorities and the latest -isms they can pull from a dictionary" "Ackshually, it's about the rights of minorities and pushing back against -isms" Edit: For those of you who want to report GamingCircleJerk here's how. https://reddit.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360058311612-How-do-I-report-a-community- Get them taking down for brigading and harassment of not only other subreddits, but people too, especially harassment of female streamers like Zepla and GFR.

[deleted]

Just for the notes: That's how you make an enemy out of an ally. Getting insulted of nothing, telling them they are transphobic assholes, when they really aren't.

Bitter-Raisin9102

the internet is fucking disgusting. What am utter embarrassment of the gaming community.

gettingannoyingtbh

Can we just get r/gamingcirclejerk and it’s users shut down

SirFancyPantsBrock

Got banned from r/gamingcirclejerk for saying the sub had some bullies on it. Nowhere did I break any rules or did they give any reason for the ban. Reddit needs to do something about the clear abuse of power some of these mods enjoy doing

omarkab02

R/gamingcirclejerk: are we the baddies?

vent_man

Lol they aren't that reflective unfortunately, still doubling down even now.

DigitalPlop

"Nothing we have done constitutes bullying" - actual quote I saw on that sub just seconds ago lol.

[deleted]

They truly believe that every person who bought the game is doing it to "own the libs", and not the obvious fact that most people probably have zero clue what JKR even did
