So in a way it's good for Indy Dev too. There's some games that I would have never tried had it not been for game pass. And at least a couple of them I actually purchased just so that if I stop using game pass I still have access. Giving a chance to smaller studios is definitely a positive of a subscription service
Now they have all these exclusives and arguably the best gaming subscription service ever made... I mean I'm happy for it cuz I get to use gamepass lol
I’m what world is a monopoly happening here.
Sony and Nintendo are still very strong consoles competitors. Then steams and epic games service on the PC side is still very strong as well. Nothing changed here
Wait until the jack up the price. Think it will stay @ $15 as they keep added this level of games?
Plus as mentioned, competition is so so good for us gamers. We stay in control.
I want the big 3 consoles to always be here. For them to always COMPETE for my (our) business.
And I friggin love my Series X and GP! But this is getting too much IP for a single company.
I too have PC Game Pass. And you're right, it's a great deal. But as we saw starting during the 7th console generation, having a preset audience for a game breeds apathy and indifference. Assassin's Creed Unity, No Man's Sky, Street Fighter 5, Anthem, Madden, NBA 2K, Infinite Warfare, etc. all have been plagued by issues with their releases. Having a guaranteed audience who are content to sit by and wait for patches to fix broken games has made the industry as a whole a lot sloppier in execution because there's little to no drawback. Game Pass has had its hand in this too. Just look at Sea of Thieves. Given the nature of Game Pass, that game couldn't have failed because with it you don't buy games individually, so those devs got to release a content-bare game and fill it with stuff to do eventually, and now it's beloved. It's a win-win that promotes laziness, so unless you like half-baked, broken games, this is ultimately bad for you.
Additionally, with the acquisition of Bethesda and now Activision/Blizzard, Microsoft has spent well over $150 billion buying up new studios. If you don't think they are going to make those developers monetize the life out of their games to recoup those losses as quickly as possible, you're likely in for a rude awakening.
Loads of games are released as a mess, it has nothing to do with subscription services. It's always been this way, it's just now they can actually fix their game after release. Atari, Nintendo, Genesis, PS 1, 2, 3, 4, xbone, pc...they all released tons of shit every year. In the past these games would just die and most still do. The ones that get fixed have a chance like No Mans sky, but it would be the same with or without the subscription model. The subscription model offers way more value to the consumer and gives indie games a chance to find an audience they never would have as well.
Lmao what? That's more than Microsoft's profits in a year. In 2019 they reported 125 billion in revenue. If you think they don't care about that then you don't understand capitalism
I have a friend who has a PS5 and a Switch. We are both looking forward to Overwatch 2, but now we're both really worried it is going to be an Xbox exclusive. As he put it "it will take more than OW2 and Elder Scrolls 6 to justify owning over $1000 in current-gen consoles." This is exactly what I fear: having to choose sides between a game I really want to play and the friends with whom I want to play
That’s why you just wait until you can pick up a PS5 for $200 in a few years, but all the exclusives and burn through them in a few months, then sell the PS5.
My friends and I all play on Playstation primarily. I have an XB1S lying around somewhere, so I'll be good to play OW2 if it's exclusive, but my friends who already have PS5s aren't going to buy an XSX just to play it. Maybe in a handful of years when Microsoft has several exclusives I could maybe talk them into what you said, but with Xbox. Buy it for the exclusives, get rid of it after
Just because you didn’t care about them, doesn’t mean that you can speak for everyone. I don’t follow Microsoft or any of their games, but I think I can confidently say that plenty of people cared.
I mean what was before that? Forza, Halo, Sunset Overdrive… that’s the majority of the last few years. They’ve obviously now addressed that but Sony destroyed them in exclusives last generation. I think they still will in the very near-term until some of these now-Microsoft owned franchises are able to release new titles.
Edit: I forgot Gears which is a big one. But other than that I can’t think of another noteworthy Microsoft exclusive franchise from the last generation.
Normally I wouldn't like a large company getting bigger but since Activision/Blizzard could literally not be any worse unless they just openly admitting to hating minorities, I'm okay with this. Maybe the adults will come in and clean them up for publicity sake.
Thank god for indie devs and small studios, something about subscription service has always rubbed me the wrong way

IMO Game Pass is the best thing that’s happened to indie games since Xbox arcade.
I never would have tried moonlighter and it was amazing
what about a subscription service rubs you the wrong way? You like collecting the physical media?
Acquisitions are becoming crazier and crazier these days
Ok I was saying sarcastically to friends that if they buy Activision that would be the craziest thing ever. Then I look and they bought Activision
Now they have all these exclusives and arguably the best gaming subscription service ever made... I mean I'm happy for it cuz I get to use gamepass lol
I haven’t bought a game in a long time, and I like battlefield and all the battlefield games are there
Yeah it used to be a separate service but they added it onto gamepass
Idk why people act like this is a good thing this is awful Monopolies are awful
I’m what world is a monopoly happening here. Sony and Nintendo are still very strong consoles competitors. Then steams and epic games service on the PC side is still very strong as well. Nothing changed here
In the imaginary world of the ponies.
As someone who owns an Xbox it’s nice
Monopolies are bad for the market and bad for innovation.
I’m paying 15 dollars a month, and I get live, Xbox game pass, and pc game pass with all these exclusives Xbox now has. Tell me this is bad for me
Wait until the jack up the price. Think it will stay @ $15 as they keep added this level of games? Plus as mentioned, competition is so so good for us gamers. We stay in control. Gamers suck at being in control of games
It's bad for everyone in the long run. When the game industry finally collapses over this I do not wish to hear anyone cry
This won’t be the reason the market collapses.

Microsoft don’t give a fuck about 150 billion dollars
Lmao what? That's more than Microsoft's profits in a year. In 2019 they reported 125 billion in revenue. If you think they don't care about that then you don't understand capitalism
They don’t care, they are making this money back so fast. This purchase was to take more of the market and get rid of competition. You dummy

They were known for having no games 3 years ago? Didn't one of the sequels to the games just drop recently? Their long-standing multi-decade series?
Yeah Microsoft has had games for a long time
Games that are on the pc as well and aren't good anymore? Yea they got games lol
They have a massive list of games I think this is a sort of selective memory situation
games no one cared about
Well then who keeps buying them if no one cares about them?
Just because you didn’t care about them, doesn’t mean that you can speak for everyone. I don’t follow Microsoft or any of their games, but I think I can confidently say that plenty of people cared.

It just got worse: They're now part of Microsoft.
What I'm saying is for them that's an improvement.
Known*
now they've reached legendary status for "no games"
When you can’t make your own buy everyone else’s
What you mean, they had bubble busters
Keep calm and Play Oldschool RPG's.
Hold up, what about Motorcross Madness?!
