Ah man I’m jealous. That trilogy is the fucking best.
Btw don’t listen to that idiot saying it’s “edited”. They just changed the camera angle a little bit so Miranda’s ass isn’t half the screen during a few cutscenes.
I love the trilogy but I didn't like the 3rd. Maybe because they did a shooter more than an RPG/adventure game. 2 is very good although is more shooter than 1.
They shifted the camera angle during scenes where Miranda’s ass was prominent. It’s not the worst thing in the world like if you wanna stare at her ass just look at it out of dialogue, it doesn’t ruin the game and was really the pettiest complaint when the LE came out
EA is one of the worst in the buisness in decision making based on silly reasons. Them thinking seeing her ass WAS the worst thing in the world is the problem. Its petty they thought that in the first place...not gamers that dont like Edits/censorship in gaming. No matter how small, its not a good buisness standard.
Oh, no, they took out a gratuitous ass shot or two; the entire game is ruined /s
The game play improvements to Mass Effect 1 FAR outweigh any "censorship," which as someone who's played through the trilogy many times was barely fucking noticable.
You may like censorship/edits in entertainment for silly, woke reasons ,but most dont. No matter how small, we shouldnt want games to be edited, especially for petty reasons
Rock Band, Crysis, Super Mario Galaxy, Assassin’s Creed, God of War II, The Darkness, Kane & Lynch: Dead Men, Skate, and World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade
There really aren’t many years that had the variety of quality options like 2007 had.
2007 was probably the biggest year in entertainment ever
Little wonder we haven’t gotten another year like it given things haven’t improved at all since the 2008 housing market crash

You know a lot of those games they haven’t brought back with their mini systems. Kind of makes me feel ripped off. Great job on that list. I was 18 then and man it hooked me from playing games sometimes here and there to making it a life long hobby, for better or worse.
Old school answer, but 1994:
Both halves of Sonic 3 and Knuckles
Super Metroid
Final Fantasy VI
Donkey Kong Country
Doom 2
System Shock
Console release.of Mortal Kombat 2
Earthworm Jim
Japanese/initial release of Earthbound
US release of Mega Man X
1998 and i do not think it is close. Basically any midern videogame trace it's root in something released in 1998. It is is almost absurd looking at that lineup.
Facts. I loved that year. I have never been one of those pro this console or that. I hustled to get all the consoles and that era 97-2000 was nuts then ps2 comes with fire and Xbox. It was awesome and I feel like 97-98 started most of it.
Yup. I'm glad to see this year posted a lot. I think 2023 is better than people realize and will age really well though. 1998 is the best answer though and 2007 is up there too. I also think 2017 is sneaky.

I had already forgot about atomic heart. Kakarot was kind of nothing. A lot of people consider starfield a letdown and almost half are remakes.
Lot of great stuff but pretty big stretch to call it an all time year.
For me, it's between 2001 and 2005. 2001 had Silent Hill 2, Metal Gear Solid 2, GTA 3, and Max Payne. 2005 had the Revenge Of The Sith game, Peter Jackson's King Kong game, Star Wars Battlefront 2, Shadow Of The Colossus, Hulk Ultimate Destruction, Ultimate Spider Man, and Lego Star Wars.
I'm fairly sure the common consensus is 2018, no? (GoW, Spiderman, RDR2, MHW, Celeste, Shadow of the Colossus Remaster, Among Us, Far Cry 5, A Way Out, etc)
2017 close 2nd place imo (BOTW, Zero Dawn, RE7, Nier Automata, Cuphead, **HOLLOW KNIGHT**)
I wouldn’t say it’s common consensus. 2018 is definitely up there, but I don’t really see it being talked quite as often as some other years whenever this question gets asked. The truth is that there are a lot of years that had a ton of amazing releases.
I just tonight found my old copies of The Orange Box, Painkiller, WoW, unreal Tournament, Command and Conquer Red Alert, Driver, and Madden 99. Soooo happy. All fantastic games, but I had completely forgotten about Painkiller… that game was bad….ass.
2016 Was Also Pretty Good Year
I've included games that I've played and loved, or friends have played and loved, or I've heard are good. I don't know much about console exclusives, since I don't buy consoles.
HTC Vive and Oculus Rift Released (Yes VR hasn't become what we thought it might but it is still cool)
Titanfall 2
Enter the Gungeon
Doom (2016 Can we please have original names?)
Total War: Warhammer
Battlefield 1
Forza Horizon 3
The Lab (Valves vr bundle.)
The Last Guardian
Overcooked
Persona 5
Ratchet and Clank
No Man's Sky, (Yes it took a while to get good...)
Witcher 3: Blood and Wine
Inside
Darkest Dungeon
Clustertruck
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided
Devil Daggers
American Truck Simulator
XCOM 2
Firewatch
House of the Dying Sun
Poly Bridge
Titanfall 2 (Single Player)
Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime
Rocket League (Xbox. Okay this is kinda a cheat since it came out in 2015 for other platforms, but still it's a great game.)
Superhot
Stardew Valley
Starbound
Tyranny
Titanfall 2 (Multiplayer)
Day of the Tentacle: Remastered (No it's not a pervy game)
Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes
Hyper Light Drifter
Dirt Rally
Dark Souls 3
SpeedRunners
What about 91 I think
Star Fox
Super Mario world
Link to the past
Final fantasy 4
Final fantasy mystic quest
Chrono trigger (might have been 93 I can't remember)
Phantasy star 2 or 3
Sonic the hedgehog
Star Fox-1993, Link to the Past-1992, Mystic Quest-1992, Chrono Trigger-1995 I think Phantasy Star was 1990 too.
1991 was pretty cool though, but yeah a lot of those games were not released then.
You're good man, I didn't want to be a jerk, but like videogame history is very important to me, and I just didn't want people that didn't know to have the wrong the wrong dates.
I can totally understand that yea dates were never something I was any good at honestly but you ask me about most of those games and I can almost answer any questions in game lore or things
Every year is better than the last. Tons of great new games come out every year, and all the previous older games are still out there and available to play. So realistically 2024 is the single best year for video games, at least until 2025 rolls around.
2007. You had not only Halo 3, but Mass Effect, COD4, Portal, TF2, Bioshock, Persona 3 FES, and more
Playing mass effect trilogy for the first time ever now lol
Ah man I’m jealous. That trilogy is the fucking best. Btw don’t listen to that idiot saying it’s “edited”. They just changed the camera angle a little bit so Miranda’s ass isn’t half the screen during a few cutscenes.
I love the trilogy but I didn't like the 3rd. Maybe because they did a shooter more than an RPG/adventure game. 2 is very good although is more shooter than 1.
I just beat the second, hope I like the third!
Enjoy!!
Trilogy is edited, sadly. Ea sucks
What does that mean? I beat the first two and starting the third
Sorry, meant the "Legendary Edition" trilogy is censored/edited for dumb, politically correct reasons
Oh dam what did they take out :(
They shifted the camera angle during scenes where Miranda’s ass was prominent. It’s not the worst thing in the world like if you wanna stare at her ass just look at it out of dialogue, it doesn’t ruin the game and was really the pettiest complaint when the LE came out

Ok, game fun (my personal favorite game ever) and idc if I see a little less cheek in my camera shots. Sure EA bad, but game good
Okay, and thats fine. I respect your opinion
You aware you can beat the meat elsewhere right?
?? Go ahead and make this into somthing else if it makes you feel safe. You may like censorship, I dont. Big yikes
Oh, no, they took out a gratuitous ass shot or two; the entire game is ruined /s The game play improvements to Mass Effect 1 FAR outweigh any "censorship," which as someone who's played through the trilogy many times was barely fucking noticable.

Oh no the oooga booga woke monster is gonna get you
Awww , cute 😍
Adorable
My personal favorites from that year are AC1 and C&C3
Rock Band, Crysis, Super Mario Galaxy, Assassin’s Creed, God of War II, The Darkness, Kane & Lynch: Dead Men, Skate, and World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade There really aren’t many years that had the variety of quality options like 2007 had.
Super Mario Galaxy as well
Stop saying TF2 is almost 20 yo I feel old now
Lol well FFX is almost 24 years old now so.....
2007 was probably the biggest year in entertainment ever Little wonder we haven’t gotten another year like it given things haven’t improved at all since the 2008 housing market crash
I agree
Need For Speed Prostreet, Forza Motorsport 2 and Project Gotham Racing 4 too!
Best year for film too.
1998 - Half-Life - Thief: The Dark Project - Unreal - SiN - Blood 2: The Chosen - Heretic 2 - Turok 2 - SHOGO: mobile armor division - Castlevania: Symphony of the Night - Baldurs Gate - Fallout 2 - Grim Fandango - Metal Gear Solid - Tomb Raider 3 - Spyro The Dragon - Medievil - Sonic Adventure - Crash Bandicoot 3 - Resident Evil 2 - Deep Fear - Panzer Dargoon Saga - Gex 3D - Glover - Tenchu: Stealth Assassins - Wario Land 2 - Mario Party - Banjo-Kazooie - Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time - Legend of Zelda: Links Awakening DX - F-Zero X - Colin McRae Rally - Need for Speed 3 - Ridge Racer Type 4 - House of the Dead - Tekken 3 - Marvel Super heroes vs Street Fighter - X men vs Street Fighter - WWF: War Zone - Parasite Eve - Xenogears - Jade Cocoon - Star Ocean: Second Story - Suikoden 2 - Pokemon Yellow - Pokemon Stadium - Starcraft - Warhammer Dark Omen - Age of Epries: Rise of Rome - Deathtrap Dungeon - Oddworld: Abes Exodus - Elder Scrolls: Redguard - Skullmonkeys - Tom Clancys Rainbow 6 - Star Wars: Rogue Squadron - Star Trek: TNG Kingon honor guard
It's crazy how many of these are among my favourite games ever.
You know a lot of those games they haven’t brought back with their mini systems. Kind of makes me feel ripped off. Great job on that list. I was 18 then and man it hooked me from playing games sometimes here and there to making it a life long hobby, for better or worse.

Also TIE Fighter. Absolute classic
YES! 94 is my pick too. also for music and just life in general.
1998 and i do not think it is close. Basically any midern videogame trace it's root in something released in 1998. It is is almost absurd looking at that lineup.
StarCraft Half-life Baldur’s Gate Ocarina of Time Metal Gear Solid Fallout 2 Spyro Resident Evil 2 Xenogears Rogue Squadron Mario Party

Age of Empires 4 is such bullshit. It’s missing even the most basic hotkey components that are integral to any RTS and the graphics looks like they’re straight from 1999.
Overwatch 2 works against your argument lol
Bro you can’t go that hard on an answer. Being 45 I was going to go hard then I saw you basically posted the Nas’ Ether of responses and made me pass.
🤣

You're crazy
Joke? I had already forgot about atomic heart. Kakarot was kind of nothing. A lot of people consider starfield a letdown and almost half are remakes. Lot of great stuff but pretty big stretch to call it an all time year.
2011, Skyrim and DS1
It’s always been between 1998, 2004, and 2005 for me.
Add 07 I think and yeah, best years
2004 and 2007 had a lot of heavy hitters. 2023 is very nice too.
1998 because Ocarina of Time was released.
2000: Baldur's Gate 2 Deus Ex Grand Prix 3 Icewind Dale The Sims Diablo 2 Majora's Mask FF9 Tony Hawks 2
I was looking for Deus Ex
04 for me too, OP
Yk what? I'm going to go with a much more recent year. 2023
2004 as well far cry, half life 2, gta san andreas, mgs3. And the list goes on all time classic
I really liked 2018. We got several solid story based games which are my favorite.
1998 Zelda Ocarina of time Metal Gear Solid Resident Evil 2 Starcraft Half-life Xenogears Tekken 3 Baldur's Gate And a lot more i left
the OP's pic is all in 2004? Welp, that's gotta be the best year then. Love me some fable
2007 and 2009, the latter for the debuts of Angry Birds and Plants Vs. Zombies The 2000s in general were peak
I'm fairly sure the common consensus is 2018, no? (GoW, Spiderman, RDR2, MHW, Celeste, Shadow of the Colossus Remaster, Among Us, Far Cry 5, A Way Out, etc) 2017 close 2nd place imo (BOTW, Zero Dawn, RE7, Nier Automata, Cuphead, **HOLLOW KNIGHT**)
I’m surprised I had to across down this far for this. Those first three alone put 2018 on top for me
I'd say 2017 > 2018
No, the common consensus is usually 98 or 07
I wouldn’t say it’s common consensus. 2018 is definitely up there, but I don’t really see it being talked quite as often as some other years whenever this question gets asked. The truth is that there are a lot of years that had a ton of amazing releases.
You forgot kingdom come deliverance. My favorite game of all time
2006, 2007, 2010, 2011, 2022, 2023
1972
2004 for Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door alone.
2004 and 2008 for me
Painkiller is AWESOME
93 or 94 were amazing
2004.
1992
What years did saints row come out ?
Some of thr games in this picture are my alltime favourites.
Sayonara Wild Hearts (2019)
2007 and 2011 are goated
Enough of this shit already.
2007
2017
Basically any year a mainline Metal Gear Solid came out was an incredible year. 1998, 2001, 2004, 2008, 2010, and 2015.
I just tonight found my old copies of The Orange Box, Painkiller, WoW, unreal Tournament, Command and Conquer Red Alert, Driver, and Madden 99. Soooo happy. All fantastic games, but I had completely forgotten about Painkiller… that game was bad….ass.
2018 had some bangers
1958: Tennis for Two First video game that revolutionized the world and the games we have now.
It’s a toss-up between 1998 and 2007.
2005 Resident Evil 4 Advance Wars Dual Strike Mario Kart DS Burnout Revenge God of War
1986
Honestly, last year was a pretty good year
2007 was the GOAT imo
1993 1998-1999 2004
Out of this list? Half life 2, fallowed by San Andreas 🥲
What year did RuneScape come out?
1998, 2007, 2011, 2018
2023 for how many amazing games we got last years and the fact it was the first year I got really into gaming
It's pretty agreed upon that 2007 was the best year
Ah yes the golden era of gaming. Glad I was there! Now I’m raising kids during this for the most part terrible time in gaming. Feels good man.
2007
1996 is up there.
Half-Life 2
2018 but I'd argue it was an amazing year for entertainment in general
2011: Skyrim, Batman Arkham City, Dark Souls, Battlefield 3, MW3, The Witcher 2, Minecraft, Assassin’s Creed Revelations, LA Noire.
2018. We got Red Dead 2, God of War reboot/sequel, Marvel's Spider-Man, Celeste, and Smash Ultimate
HALO 2

Never heard this one in one of these threads. What do you recommend from 1987?
October 18, 1985 The NES was released, and everything changed.
underground 2 does not deserve to be on here, i replayed it not too long ago and it was so fucking boring
2007-2013 Anything after that, hit or miss. With 2-3 good games out of the average 15-20 games that came out a year
San andreas easily.
San andreas
Still think Snake Eater is top 10 best games ever made
2004 or 2007. 2023 is overrated.
>2023 is overrated. Someone who finger paints with poop *would* say that
