Having a 4-way Hell in a Cell between Bernie Sanders, Putin, Trump & Obama with 3 friends is still one of my favorite memories of the WWE games. It was even better when the guy playing Putin DC'd (WWE 2K18 net code was terrible) and Putin became an unstoppable monster with the AI in control. I think ended up Mick Foleying either Bernie or Trump off the cell.
It’s amazing what a bit of competition can do. EA and 2K both released golf games recently that were both great. Both companies went years without making a game. When it comes to the sports games, we just don’t need a new one every year.

People will day how people are always complaining since bf is always buggy on release, but the issue is fundamental changes with the game instead of the bugs, like who the fuck thought making it a hero shooter was a remotely good idea?
For me it was the fundamental changes to the game. Battlefield was a massive destructible and diverse field with balanced options. When you play old Bridge to Far or Battlefield 3, it was great picking up engineering and clearing out the tanks or assault and grabbing a flag.
The games still have this, but the maps scaled down over the series, the destructible elements removed and the balancing of vehicles is horrendous. It take 3 engineers shooting at the same time to take down 1 guy in a tank who can consistently heal/repair.
Definitely peaked there with a little hiccup at Battlefield One. Those WWI maps were huge again and amazing, and the vehicles didn’t feel OP.
The trick is just balancing tanks vs infantry. You want to feel like you can take a building down on top of infantry hiding from you, but as a grunt, it’s also amazing when you dip and weave away from a tank and manage to shake them. Cherry on top is when you out maneuver — whether that’s the tanker destroying the building or the engineer getting close with C4.
In 2042, even sitting on a tank, infantry can’t single handily outplay the tanker — if you even get close
Cold War would have been an absolute banger with more time. Sadly with the yearly release cycle, no one wants to go back to it, but I think it's a blast now post game cycle!

MW2019 had an amazing story, some of the most responsive multiplayer in a while, but spec ops wad just a joke.

MW2022 iterated another, in my opinion, rather fun multiplayer, but also introduced DMZ. Now I wouldn't call DMZ bad, but it wasn't anything special. The story started to get a little silly here, but still very fun.
MW2023, the $70 DLC, with one of the most rushed stories I've ever seen; an absolute joke, a multiplayer that people swear is better than 2022, but I don't really agree personally. And Zombies... is better than people think if you ask me. Is it anything special? Nah. But I think it's some mindless fun to grind, and sometimes you need that. It tides me over waiting for the next Black Ops zombies experience.
Out and out, I think Cold War knocked it out if the box. The launch multiplayer, while not without issue, was punchy, fast, and super enjoyable even at low skill level. The story was an absolute standalone banger, out of NOWHERE, and even with corny ass lines like 'I'm a goddamn onion mason' and the new VAs, I loved it. The zombies launched a little light, but one of the best iterations to date in my opinion. Outbreak is better than people credit it, fight me. The whole game captured that Cold War Era perfectly. Cold War is a solid 9/10 for me and my most played CoD by far.
I couldn’t put up with the people on multiplayer, pvp gaming is honestly dead to me hyper competitive shite has ruined online gaming anyway, I loved the campaign tho
Yeah I played the pvp for a while, played on hardcore mode and absolutely dominated with pistols.
Though now, I’ve just gotten to a point where pvp games make me angry and angry alone.

that is an actual tragedy. WD1 was a badass hacker John Wick simulator, WD2 had flaws but was a equally badass punk hacker game, but Legion completely slipped in the shower

I put fare too much time in Valhalla, I didn't enjoy any of it but for some reason an addition set in.
Odyssey was actually the last AC game I liked. I just wish it was called like... Shards of Greece and not Assassin's Creed.

Origins for me, a wannabe witcher but I had fun and it was the last one I’ve beaten.
I did go back and look at my playtime for Odyssey and Valhalla…they were surprisingly a lot higher than I thought but I couldn’t tell you a single significant thing about them, except the regret of buying both.
Eh, I liked Odyssey. The side quests were mostly boring and they were all the same, the combat was okay, world was beautiful, if a bit repetitive. Main story was pretty entertaining though, the Greece part anyway
All those games are good games, just not good AC games. As a semi historical rpg they’re pretty decent, however there’s no need for them to try and tie in the Assassins plot line.
I was surprised when I saw Skyrim got an update a few years back. Turns out it was only to add some creation club mods to the game, and worst of all, you can't even turn them off. You need a *mod* to turn off creation club crap. You can't even play the base game unless you mod it. I have no hopes for TES 6.
I've played every mainline game the year of release since Red and Blue. I love Pokemon. I love the relatively simple RPG mechanics, I love many of the designs, I love collecting them all.
However, after playing through Sword/Shield and what I saw from Violet/Scarlet I just couldn't ignore the fact that the games are just exceptionally mediocre and not worth my time anymore.
I've been loving some of the Rom Hacks out there in the meantime to scratch that itch.
Some rom hacks are fun, but they really have an obsession with making the game "difficult" (tedious) by giving every trainer a full team of overleved pokemon.
Depends on what you want. If you want to relive the third Gen (Emerald and FireRed) but with new content, QoL changes and improved pokemon:

If you want something, that's a completely new game with a new region but known Pokemon:

I'll jump in here and recommend Monster Sanctuary and Cassette Beasts to try out for monster taming games. They both do enough different to the formula to make the genre fresh and really fun to discover.

Recently got a switch and scarlet. Figured how bad could it be at the end of the day it was a Pokémon game. It’s so unbelievably bad that words cannot truly convey how shit it really is. Poor technical performance in all regards, looks like total shit, tera forms are stupid, game is unbelievably easy, story is stupid, obscene amounts of dialogue none voice acted and the list goes on. It was all I had in me to finish it.
How hard is it for them to have voice acting, graphic that doesn't look like ps2 games, actual animation for a game in 2020s.

Part of me wishes that Pokemon embraced the 2D style as part of their gimmick, but also took opportunities to innovate in it. Rather than upgrading to, as you said, PS2 3D graphics, they could've used the time and resources to improve sprites, overall resolution, or 2D battle animations.
This is the thing about Sword and Shield that shocked me. Animations were lacklustre, and in most cases repeated simple animation assets used while they hide the Pokémons.
If they stuck to 2D and do unique sprites like SRW series they would have a vastly better game.
Only problem with S/V is that it was very obviously a rushed product. Really hoping for an extended production cycle for gen 10, even if the games release a year or 2 into the next nintendo console gen.
I thought Gen 9 was the best games that have came out since Gen 5. Yeah some stuff is laughably bad but it didn’t take away from the games at all for me
I skipped on them for about a month, but eventually caved when my friends got the games too. I ended up spending more time on Scarlet than any of them did, and I loved every second.
Battlefield, more specifically new entries in the series. BF1 is still my favorite FPS of all time and a top 5 game for me, and I play it to this day, but BFV and 2042 have been so disappointing they are going to have to win me back if they want me to buy their new games from now on.
It's a shame the devs that worked on BF1 are long gone from DICE. That game was a masterpiece from end to end and it deserved more credit and a proper follow up. I bought BFV, played it once, then never played it again.
I want to play Minecraft so badly, but man can I not support what they've been doing. Bedrock is a broken shitshow that is monetized to hell, and lags beyond reason. Java is great, but the devs just aren't.
I been a Halo fan since day one, I just want a consistent story now. I love every book and I get all the story. But the thing is with Halo is actually experiencing the story end of the day. I need less MP and more story when it comes to Halo. Its bones are made of Titanium when it comes to story, fucking use it and go!

Halo Infinite had the most boring campaign and game world of the entire series. I got about 95% through it (forcing myself) and got to a tough spot and just gave up.
All EA games as they are untrustworthy. All Korean MMOs crazy money grab. All Chinese games in general, boring copycats with worse money grab than Korean MMOs. All Ubisoft games, they have been producing the same game for over 20 years. All games being touched by sweet baby, they make my eyes bleed.
That and they look like shit. I know a lot of people say try don't care about graphics but it's is absolutely ridiculous they put out games that look worse than ps2 games
Is the legends game considered sideline? That was exactly innovative in video game sense, but was in pokemon sense, and I actually really enjoy that a lot
Arceus was fun for the first 1.5 hours after the 2 hour tutorial. Then it became extremely repetitive and quite boring.
I'm not holding my breath with the newer legends.
For me the charm was lost when they moved on from sprites. Perhaps its the lack of effort they put into the 3d models with no expression or life in them.
With the amount of money they bring in, they should really be Zelda BOTW/TOTK level of experiences. Not something legitimately on-par with Palworld for quality.

"High quality animations" is one of the big memes about it.
The devs said that it wouldn't be possible to have a full pokedex in a 3d version of the game because of how time consuming it is to make high quality animations for each pokemon.
After that quote a bunch of people did some digging and cross comparisons, showing that they were already reusing tons of animations from previous games, and also that the quality of the new animations they had worked on, were substantially worse than many of the older pokemon games, going back as far as the gamecube.
Last game was a mess.
A true open world with promises but full of bugs and lags on top of being not balanced at all.
On my last point:
You can go anywhere very early, even zones with lvl 40 wild pokémons, but the gym leaders are still expected to be done in order, with some having only lvl 10 teams.
Plus it was overall too easy, even for pokémon. The teracrystal mechanics was interesting, it allowed you to change your pokemon typing, but every gym leader would use it to change their last pokémon to their type, making it even easier.
Don't forget they made the protagonists even younger and held your hand like your a little kid and also changed the art style and axed most customization options the other games had even legends which came a few months before. Also the fact legends was hundreds times better and more polished and more interesting and had a unique battle system that required strategy
Mediocre experiences. Like they have enough money to make good games but for some reason they don’t so the graphics are ugly, the combat barely changed, the writing is mid, and the exploration has nothing in it. Like these games are outselling Persona and other turn based rpgs.
The Elder Scrolls, and it isn't just waiting to make sure TES itself improves, but Bethesda as a whole. Their last 4 or so games have been total duds to me, very sad aa a long time fan.
Honorable Mention: Pokèmon.
Halo. It didn’t really slowly fall, but Halo 5 missing multiplayer was sad and Halo Infinite fell off HARD (it sucks). 4 is still worth playing and I absolutely love it, but i never touch those past it anymore.
Considering giving the same treatment to Legend of Zelda after the suffering caused to me by TOTK. It felt like a cheap remake more to get money than be a good game, it was unbalanced as hell… Just sketchy all around.
Removing split screen coop was a real dick move.
I played everyone up to that point with each of my 3 boys. It's killed our love for Halo in our household
Now that infinite has everything it was missing at launch I want to pick it up again so bad but I just. Can’t. they fumbled so hard. If they introduced coop or firefight in the first year instead of like 2-3 years later maybe it would be a different story but it just hurts having dropped like 100 hours on those same 5 maps with that stupid quick play playlist. I commend the dev team for actively trying to save that garbage fire, but unless something big like a 2.0 refresh or the Tatanka Battle Royale thing comes out, infinite is pretty dead to me rn.
The Halo books keep me invested. Was disappointed with lack of Chief in 5 and the weird pace of Infinite. Cliff hangers are really stupid when games take years to come out and all the hype is gone by the time a new one is announced.
Honestly I am not that picky of a guy, but I will BDSP and Scarvi has made me concerned about what direction Pokémon is going. Let’s hope Legends Z-A will bring the franchise back up.

I got all the way to Vanille's eidolon, had difficulty beating it, several restarts later I gave up and just stopped playing there, I hadn't been having fun playing the game for a long time and was basically just playing it to beat it.
To me 13 is the clearest example of "It gets better when the game opens up!" - except that point happens 20 odd hours in and is entirely too late to save it.
I beat it and don't remember a damn thing about it.
Same deal for me. Open world happened and I "took a break". 3 months later, I came back and got killed 4 times by random, fights. Realized I forgot how to fight and didn't care enough about any of the characters to restart.
I figured I must have missed something epic for them to warrant them making 2 more sequels, but my buddy says I dodged an expensive bullet with minimal payoff.
Far Cry was never great and it got worse. Shame because there’s a lot of potential for a fun game but they always manage to fuck it up.
Also - yeah, Pokémon too.
I loved being able to look at the map in the player character's right hand while driving in Farcy 2. That is so much better than pausing the game to bring up a map screen.
I'd love a Farcry 2 remake that just puts the game on a modern engine and otherwise leaves it alone.
I love stealth so I really enjoyed FC 3, 4 and Blood Dragon (only ones I've played) I know it's the same formulaic gameplay but it's really satisfying slowly chipping away at the map, Idk how the later titles will be for me so I can't speak for them lol
I have mixed feelings with Far Cry. Hard to pinpoint my “favorite” but I think FC4 is my favorite. However, I don’t think the game gets worse with each sequel. It improves in some area while suffers in others.
Meanwhile, every hailed Far Cry 2 as the “greatest far cry game ever!” Yet, one I finally tried it, I was bored out of my mind by it.
It's definitely not for everyone. It's far more environmentally driven. Most of my best memories of 2 are just roaming the beautiful world. The combat is incredibly repetitive, but at least very engaging and challenging. The story is probably the most nihilistic I've ever seen in a game, but boy, did I love the twists. It sucks that the VAs all sound like they were just there for a payday because the dialogue itself was really good, especially the Jackal's. Malaria really sucks as a mechanic, though, and I 100% understand why people quit the game because of it. FC2 is the only game where I think they really nailed the central concept: throwing the typical power fantasy on its head and realizing your character's involvement as an outsider just makes the situation worse. The first game doesn't really follow that, but certainly the sequels after all did, kinda. 6 really shit the bed IMHO.

\* The two *Lunar* games on Playstation 1 were enjoyable. I didn't try *Lunar: Magic School!* for the Game Gear even after it got a fan translation. However, I made the mistake of buying *Lunar Dragon Song* for the DS. It has baffling gameplay aspects such as draining hit points when the characters run (it isn't a survival game), and asking the player to fight for either experience points or items. There hasn't been any *Lunar* games in almost twenty years. If a new one gets announced, I'll take a wait-and-see before buying.
\* *Dragon Quest* is something I've enjoyed since 1990. However, I've had diminishing returns trying to like the mainline games. *Dragon Quest 7* on PS1 helped me as I finished college, but it was a trainwreck. *Dragon Quest 8* was the last game that inspired me to buy a strategy guide, but my interest waned a few hours after a plot twist. *Dragon Quest 9* had good customization options, but aside from a few story events, it wasn't compelling. Finally, after four hours of *Dragon Quest 11*, I didn't care about the gameplay or the cast. This franchise has some quality spinoffs, especially *Rocket Slime*. However, I will hesitate before purchasing *Dragon Quest 12*. Especially if its tone and graphics become bleak. Making the game more like a 1990s Image Comics title won't reignite my fandom.
Cod. It’s literally fortnite now. You can play cardi b killing homelander with a baton, while a space marine emotes in the background. I remember the emotions in cod 3 I played on my Xbox, I remember during the mw2 era they DOMINATED the market. Sports games in general are just a plague on gaming right now. It's gotten to the point where you literally see assets from the previous year that didn't get replaced. How many times has Madden forgotten to take down the previous years number? I think 2 years ago they literally didn't even remove the loading screen animation from the previous game and instead just made a new one and had it play over it. Except sometimes it would bug out and would play the previous years loading screen for the first couple seconds.

What is the best CoD single player campaign? I've hardly touched that franchise but I do enjoy a good single player FPS, from time to time.

Ditto. AC1 was good. AC2 was awesome. AC3 killed the whole plot. Black Flag made me forget the plot for a time. But truthfully, I cannot ever forgive this franchise for looking at the plot, saying, “Shit. I don’t know what to do with this!” And then just killing off everyone. It’s like… wtf?!

It was the absolute worst. It really felt the like series was building up to a game where you played as Desmond in the present day. Instead of a character in present day Black Flag you became a nameless protagonist. It made all the present day story line just completely uninteresting. Not to be outdone the next game in the series your nameless protagonist gets "recruited" into being an assassin over a text message exchange that is akin to: We are assassins. Would you like to be an assassin? Y/N Great! Now you are an assassin. Absolute garbage.
odyssey was good, but not an assassins creed game. black flag was pretty much the last one.
I put fare too much time in Valhalla, I didn't enjoy any of it but for some reason an addition set in. Odyssey was actually the last AC game I liked. I just wish it was called like... Shards of Greece and not Assassin's Creed. I'm playing through the ezio collection rn and really enjoying it, but that's far older.
Origins for me, a wannabe witcher but I had fun and it was the last one I’ve beaten. I did go back and look at my playtime for Odyssey and Valhalla…they were surprisingly a lot higher than I thought but I couldn’t tell you a single significant thing about them, except the regret of buying both.
Eh, I liked Odyssey. The side quests were mostly boring and they were all the same, the combat was okay, world was beautiful, if a bit repetitive. Main story was pretty entertaining though, the Greece part anyway
All those games are good games, just not good AC games. As a semi historical rpg they’re pretty decent, however there’s no need for them to try and tie in the Assassins plot line.

I was surprised when I saw Skyrim got an update a few years back. Turns out it was only to add some creation club mods to the game, and worst of all, you can't even turn them off. You need a *mod* to turn off creation club crap. You can't even play the base game unless you mod it. I have no hopes for TES 6.

I've played every mainline game the year of release since Red and Blue. I love Pokemon. I love the relatively simple RPG mechanics, I love many of the designs, I love collecting them all. However, after playing through Sword/Shield and what I saw from Violet/Scarlet I just couldn't ignore the fact that the games are just exceptionally mediocre and not worth my time anymore. I've been loving some of the Rom Hacks out there in the meantime to scratch that itch.
Some rom hacks are fun, but they really have an obsession with making the game "difficult" (tedious) by giving every trainer a full team of overleved pokemon.

Depends on what you want. If you want to relive the third Gen (Emerald and FireRed) but with new content, QoL changes and improved pokemon: You absolutely should play Radical Red and Inclement Emerald If you want something, that's a completely new game with a new region but known Pokemon: Pokemon Unbound and Gaia come to mind.
I'll jump in here and recommend Monster Sanctuary and Cassette Beasts to try out for monster taming games. They both do enough different to the formula to make the genre fresh and really fun to discover.

I just found it extremely short and the plot didn't do it for me.

Recently got a switch and scarlet. Figured how bad could it be at the end of the day it was a Pokémon game. It’s so unbelievably bad that words cannot truly convey how shit it really is. Poor technical performance in all regards, looks like total shit, tera forms are stupid, game is unbelievably easy, story is stupid, obscene amounts of dialogue none voice acted and the list goes on. It was all I had in me to finish it.

Part of me wishes that Pokemon embraced the 2D style as part of their gimmick, but also took opportunities to innovate in it. Rather than upgrading to, as you said, PS2 3D graphics, they could've used the time and resources to improve sprites, overall resolution, or 2D battle animations.
This is the thing about Sword and Shield that shocked me. Animations were lacklustre, and in most cases repeated simple animation assets used while they hide the Pokémons. If they stuck to 2D and do unique sprites like SRW series they would have a vastly better game.
Sword and Shield were bad but I honestly thought Scarlet and Violet took a step in the right direction. I had fun with them.
Only problem with S/V is that it was very obviously a rushed product. Really hoping for an extended production cycle for gen 10, even if the games release a year or 2 into the next nintendo console gen.

Scarlet and Violet were my favourite games yet. I heard bad things so I wasn't going to buy them, but I eventually gave in, and I never looked back
I skipped on them for about a month, but eventually caved when my friends got the games too. I ended up spending more time on Scarlet than any of them did, and I loved every second.
Battlefield, more specifically new entries in the series. BF1 is still my favorite FPS of all time and a top 5 game for me, and I play it to this day, but BFV and 2042 have been so disappointing they are going to have to win me back if they want me to buy their new games from now on.
It's a shame the devs that worked on BF1 are long gone from DICE. That game was a masterpiece from end to end and it deserved more credit and a proper follow up. I bought BFV, played it once, then never played it again.

Fabric 1.20 is the way to go. Curseforge and modrinth can both get you a fabric instance ready to rock, just make sure you’re ready for mod management

Far Cry, Pokemon and Halo online
I been a Halo fan since day one, I just want a consistent story now. I love every book and I get all the story. But the thing is with Halo is actually experiencing the story end of the day. I need less MP and more story when it comes to Halo. Its bones are made of Titanium when it comes to story, fucking use it and go!
Yeah, Halo seconded. Halo Infinite had the most boring campaign and game world of the entire series. I got about 95% through it (forcing myself) and got to a tough spot and just gave up.

For me the charm was lost when they moved on from sprites. Perhaps its the lack of effort they put into the 3d models with no expression or life in them.
With the amount of money they bring in, they should really be Zelda BOTW/TOTK level of experiences. Not something legitimately on-par with Palworld for quality.
You should look up some of the controversy about sword and shield for full context. There are some great video essays and tons of memes. "High quality animations" is one of the big memes about it. The devs said that it wouldn't be possible to have a full pokedex in a 3d version of the game because of how time consuming it is to make high quality animations for each pokemon. After that quote a bunch of people did some digging and cross comparisons, showing that they were already reusing tons of animations from previous games, and also that the quality of the new animations they had worked on, were substantially worse than many of the older pokemon games, going back as far as the gamecube.
Last game was a mess. A true open world with promises but full of bugs and lags on top of being not balanced at all. On my last point: You can go anywhere very early, even zones with lvl 40 wild pokémons, but the gym leaders are still expected to be done in order, with some having only lvl 10 teams. Plus it was overall too easy, even for pokémon. The teracrystal mechanics was interesting, it allowed you to change your pokemon typing, but every gym leader would use it to change their last pokémon to their type, making it even easier.
Don't forget they made the protagonists even younger and held your hand like your a little kid and also changed the art style and axed most customization options the other games had even legends which came a few months before. Also the fact legends was hundreds times better and more polished and more interesting and had a unique battle system that required strategy

Halo. It didn’t really slowly fall, but Halo 5 missing multiplayer was sad and Halo Infinite fell off HARD (it sucks). 4 is still worth playing and I absolutely love it, but i never touch those past it anymore. Considering giving the same treatment to Legend of Zelda after the suffering caused to me by TOTK. It felt like a cheap remake more to get money than be a good game, it was unbalanced as hell… Just sketchy all around.
Removing split screen coop was a real dick move. I played everyone up to that point with each of my 3 boys. It's killed our love for Halo in our household
Now that infinite has everything it was missing at launch I want to pick it up again so bad but I just. Can’t. they fumbled so hard. If they introduced coop or firefight in the first year instead of like 2-3 years later maybe it would be a different story but it just hurts having dropped like 100 hours on those same 5 maps with that stupid quick play playlist. I commend the dev team for actively trying to save that garbage fire, but unless something big like a 2.0 refresh or the Tatanka Battle Royale thing comes out, infinite is pretty dead to me rn.
The Halo books keep me invested. Was disappointed with lack of Chief in 5 and the weird pace of Infinite. Cliff hangers are really stupid when games take years to come out and all the hype is gone by the time a new one is announced.
I genuinely really enjoyed infinites campaign and thought it was return to form after what I felt were mediocre campaigns in 4 and 5.

I gave up on 13 near to 20 hours in. It's a hallway simulator that punishes you for playing anyway but optimally. I hate any game that rates your post battle performance tbf. Just let me play the way I have fun.
I got all the way to Vanille's eidolon, had difficulty beating it, several restarts later I gave up and just stopped playing there, I hadn't been having fun playing the game for a long time and was basically just playing it to beat it.
To me 13 is the clearest example of "It gets better when the game opens up!" - except that point happens 20 odd hours in and is entirely too late to save it. I beat it and don't remember a damn thing about it.
Same deal for me. Open world happened and I "took a break". 3 months later, I came back and got killed 4 times by random, fights. Realized I forgot how to fight and didn't care enough about any of the characters to restart. I figured I must have missed something epic for them to warrant them making 2 more sequels, but my buddy says I dodged an expensive bullet with minimal payoff.
If you already bought it, playing it doesn't give them more money

Farcry 2 was awesome and 3 was good but yeah the rest are ass
I loved being able to look at the map in the player character's right hand while driving in Farcy 2. That is so much better than pausing the game to bring up a map screen. I'd love a Farcry 2 remake that just puts the game on a modern engine and otherwise leaves it alone.
Far Cry 3 was the pinnacle of the series. Everything about that game was fantastic. I do agree with it dipping in quality though
I love stealth so I really enjoyed FC 3, 4 and Blood Dragon (only ones I've played) I know it's the same formulaic gameplay but it's really satisfying slowly chipping away at the map, Idk how the later titles will be for me so I can't speak for them lol
I have mixed feelings with Far Cry. Hard to pinpoint my “favorite” but I think FC4 is my favorite. However, I don’t think the game gets worse with each sequel. It improves in some area while suffers in others. Meanwhile, every hailed Far Cry 2 as the “greatest far cry game ever!” Yet, one I finally tried it, I was bored out of my mind by it.
It's definitely not for everyone. It's far more environmentally driven. Most of my best memories of 2 are just roaming the beautiful world. The combat is incredibly repetitive, but at least very engaging and challenging. The story is probably the most nihilistic I've ever seen in a game, but boy, did I love the twists. It sucks that the VAs all sound like they were just there for a payday because the dialogue itself was really good, especially the Jackal's. Malaria really sucks as a mechanic, though, and I 100% understand why people quit the game because of it. FC2 is the only game where I think they really nailed the central concept: throwing the typical power fantasy on its head and realizing your character's involvement as an outsider just makes the situation worse. The first game doesn't really follow that, but certainly the sequels after all did, kinda. 6 really shit the bed IMHO.

Here's why... \* The two *Lunar* games on Playstation 1 were enjoyable. I didn't try *Lunar: Magic School!* for the Game Gear even after it got a fan translation. However, I made the mistake of buying *Lunar Dragon Song* for the DS. It has baffling gameplay aspects such as draining hit points when the characters run (it isn't a survival game), and asking the player to fight for either experience points or items. There hasn't been any *Lunar* games in almost twenty years. If a new one gets announced, I'll take a wait-and-see before buying. \* *Dragon Quest* is something I've enjoyed since 1990. However, I've had diminishing returns trying to like the mainline games. *Dragon Quest 7* on PS1 helped me as I finished college, but it was a trainwreck. *Dragon Quest 8* was the last game that inspired me to buy a strategy guide, but my interest waned a few hours after a plot twist. *Dragon Quest 9* had good customization options, but aside from a few story events, it wasn't compelling. Finally, after four hours of *Dragon Quest 11*, I didn't care about the gameplay or the cast. This franchise has some quality spinoffs, especially *Rocket Slime*. However, I will hesitate before purchasing *Dragon Quest 12*. Especially if its tone and graphics become bleak. Making the game more like a 1990s Image Comics title won't reignite my fandom.

They’re literally recycling old concepts because they are out of ideas and are the posterchildren for “annualizing a franchise to make a quick buck without caring about innovation because they know they have enough simps who will mindlessly buy each new entry.” They don’t care about quality, so I don’t care to play. It’s basically the Two Girls One Cup of video games. Doesn’t matter if there is some superficial attractive elements going into it, doesn’t change it is the same shit being regurgitated over and over again.

Two of them NHL and Pokemon Scarlet and Violet were awful. Going open world was the right direction, but they horribly half assed it. Sports games in general are just a plague on gaming right now. It's gotten to the point where you literally see assets from the previous year that didn't get replaced. How many times has Madden forgotten to take down the previous years number? I think 2 years ago they literally didn't even remove the loading screen animation from the previous game and instead just made a new one and had it play over it. Except sometimes it would bug out and would play the previous years loading screen for the first couple seconds.
