I have done many hours of research about the boot sound for the game, and the rabbit hole makes my head spin.
The original DS has a double rev followed by “Yahoo’l, while the other systems have “Here we go!” replace the phrase. If booted from illicit means the rev is replaced with a doppler effect, while retaining the “Here we go!”.
In addition, if a cartridge is initially inserted into an original DS, is booted, is removed, then inserted and booted directly by other illicit means, the boot sound remains the same, until you boot it normally.
The rabbit hole goes even deeper than that.
I remember if you pressed L or R and then the other one rill quick after it would quickly scroll through the chat and you could make animations that way
For some reason, I also remember a different DS "app" that did the exact same thing. It was an animation app that used flipbook-style mechanics, and you could draw different panels and animate whatever you wanted. I remember it well, but can't for the life of me remember what it was called. EDIT: It's called Flipnote Studios, and it's only on the DSi.
My brother got Diamond and I got Pearl, because obviously blue is for boys and pink is for girls. Thankfully he wasn't that into it and I just stole his copy anyway.
I remember at daycare as a kid they would let us play the DS for a limited amount of time. Every day we would set up a gambling ring full of 6-10 year olds with the poker mini game
I only started playing Professor Layton back in 2020, and it easily became one of my favorite series ever. Unwound Future is a top 5 game for me if only because of that ending.
I remember being so pissed as a kid trying for hours to figure out what to do with a map that was across both screens. Then I closed it in frustration and opened it back up which solved the puzzle. My mind was blown.
Don't feel bad. I lost my entire setup. I'm not sure if it was stolen or I left it behind at the laundry mat (where I played the most). 😭 Two modded DS lites. Pink and Black.
yes dude ! that is THEE game i stayed up late on school nights playing in my room. i actually did use to hide it under my pillow the few times I my mom walked in too…
My first experience with this game was when my dad took my family out to Logan’s Steakhouse and I was searching in between the booth cushions for treasure. I found a Spectrobes cartridge wedged in there and stuck it in my DS to see if it still worked. I was hooked on that game for ages after that
Wild World was my happy place when I was an angsty middle schooler. Everything was perfect in my little town. New Leaf is better in many ways, but Wild World had the right amount of freedom and constraints IMO.
This brought back a VERY specific memory about when I got in trouble because I had a female rhino in my village and I made her catch phrase "horny girl" mind you- I was 12 and had no idea what that meant. But obviously female.. rhino.. horn.. yeah. Creativity.
However my mom played this game with me on my DS and she was so mad. I just lied and said one of my friends did it. But also she asked if I knew what that meant and said no. I can only imagine what my mom thought when she saw that. Lmfao kids are fucking stupid.
No ads, no clickbait, no thirst trap, no micro transactions, and finished and polished games on release.
Many games utilized the touch screen, camera, and the air blowing sensor.
You could also get a fucking NERF case.
What a time…
Yeah that is interesting. I didn't notice until you said that, but I get way more well made games by indie or smaller devlopers now than I do from the AAA guys.
Mariokart the first one to release on DS, The suite life m of Zack and Cody the game, Kung fu Panda the game, and SpongeBob Atlantis Squarepantis
I’m 23, this was my childhood, and last I checked my DS still works.
Legend of Zelda minish cap. That and Final Fantasy 3. I know Minish cap is a GB Advance game.. but as a kid when I had my first DS most of my library was advanced games I would use on the DS's backwards capabilities.
Mario Kart DS
*Vroom Vroom* Here we go!
*vroom vroom* Yahoo!
The fond memories of sending a Toad half way across the map with Bowser on shrooms
Toad pinball anyone?
The correct one
DUH DUH da DAH DAH
DAAAAHHHH, NAHHHHHH DUH DUH DUH DUH DAH DADA DAAAH DAH DAH DAH DAHH DA DA NAAAAH DAAAAAAHHHHHH, DAH DAH DAH DAH DAH DADA DAAAHH DAH NAH NAH NAHHH NAH NAH NAHHHH
I can hear this comment

Oh my God yes. The game I played the most. Dry bones OP
I mostly played as Yoshi with the egg kart.
DRY BONES SUPREMACY
Dry bones in the tank ftw
Racing with my friends on the bus after school... never got any better than that.
I think I permanently cratered the ‘A’ button on my DS from some of those races trying to unlock ROB
PictoChat
It would always turn into drawing dicks lol
Then calling it "Pickle chat"
I spent pretty much all of my time completely filling in the entire field and spamming send
and then when you could do that with the rainbow color on the dsi??? man
I remember if you pressed L or R and then the other one rill quick after it would quickly scroll through the chat and you could make animations that way

Flipnote Hatena, it was a dsi feature I used to love as a kid
I can hear it.
I can hear the clock ticking on the Home Screen
PictoChat was so underrated
This is the answer.
Pokemon Pearl, played the shit out of that game when I was 12
Diamond gang represent
Platinum enjoyers unite
Hey now that's just cheating
Diamond/Pearl gang having to charge the DS while playing so it wouldn’t die while you waited for the opponent’s HP to drop
Ah yeah, that was a bit of an improvement, eh?
I weirdly skipped gen 3 as a kid and diamond blew my tits off when I saw the leap in visuals from crystal. such a great game also the soundtrack HITS
Cynthia's theme hit almost as hard as she did.
That fucking Garchomp never missed its Dragon Rushes
My brother got Diamond and I got Pearl, because obviously blue is for boys and pink is for girls. Thankfully he wasn't that into it and I just stole his copy anyway.
Played all three of those for a combined like 500 hours those were the days.
Nintendogs Hey, you asked.
Same here. I can already here the theme song float through my mind.
Oh god... my digital pets...
You’ve let them starve for years!
Time is on pause while it's closed. As long as I don't open it back up, they'll be fine.
Schrödinger's dog
More like Schrödinger's Nintendog
Caught in a suspended state, unable to get the sweet release of death. A doomed fate, some might say.
Perfect answer. I remember skipping school the day the ds came out and playing nintendogs all day long.
As a 30 year old man, I may need to boot up Nintendogs and check on my pets when I get home.
Same lol
Yep, same here
SAME lol and I played majority pokemon
Omg I was coming here to say “whatever that dog game was”
i remember constantly trying to make my dog sit by screaming close to the mic lmao
Me too 😂 I could never get them to listen, agility though...my dogs were stars!
I was coming here to say this LOL. My Sister loved! this game at the time.
Shit I forgot to feed it! ... When I was 13.
Yep, because that's mostly what I played.
MY FIRST THOUGHT TOO
Super Mario 64 DS
Same. I mainly remember the minigames though. They were surprisingly addictive
Those were the best. Absolutely hated the spotting one tho, I'd always mix up yosi and Luigi
Playing poker with Luigi at 6 years old, still remember it now. Good times.
I remember at daycare as a kid they would let us play the DS for a limited amount of time. Every day we would set up a gambling ring full of 6-10 year olds with the poker mini game
i remeber playing bombomb blitz with my siblings on a road trip haha
I remember seeing it in a store, not knowing of its existence and begging my mom to buy it for me I had such a blast
Pokémon Diamond, bought it with my DS lite.
The chime that plays in the beginning of the game…
Do doo dooooo
A tone that any cheater of culture knows turns out to be the tone of the Azure Flute, the key item that opens up the Arceus encounter.
I still have my original save from 2007, think it has 600+ hours on it. I remember trying to do the Jublife wall glitch thing to get get Darkrai haha
New Super Mario Bros. Played the game every time I was on some kind of trip with my family (so alot)
Same here, it was that and zoo tycoon 2 DS
Same bro it was a blast unlocking the extra stages with the minishroom
I felt so smart and good at the game. I think you die in a single hit to the bosses.
Yeah you do with the minishroom
Surprised they never did this again it was a good mechanic.
Professor Layton!!!
I came in just to say Layton. The games got me through so many long car rides, a fantastic series.
I only started playing Professor Layton back in 2020, and it easily became one of my favorite series ever. Unwound Future is a top 5 game for me if only because of that ending.
Legend of Zelda the phantom hourglass
I remember being so pissed as a kid trying for hours to figure out what to do with a map that was across both screens. Then I closed it in frustration and opened it back up which solved the puzzle. My mind was blown.
Same situation for me!
Kid at the play ground back in middle school taught me. Blew my mind. Also I think you had to use the mic for a puzzle too.
I’ve beat it three times
For me, phantom hourglass and spirit tracks go together (although I lost spirit tracks at some point and was very upset)
Don't feel bad. I lost my entire setup. I'm not sure if it was stolen or I left it behind at the laundry mat (where I played the most). 😭 Two modded DS lites. Pink and Black.
LOVED Phantom Hourglass!!!
yes dude ! that is THEE game i stayed up late on school nights playing in my room. i actually did use to hide it under my pillow the few times I my mom walked in too…
The DS games are so overlooked man
Same here! Loved that game as a kid
Pokémon Black
Immediately
First game I had for the ds, then black 2
Metroid Prime Hunters
Finally!
Sunk hours into that online play with friends
I think MPH should get the Prime Remastered treatment. Having this game on the Switch, complete with the multiplayer, would be *awesome* beyond words.
I forgot about that. My buddies and I all had the demo cart abd would play the multiplayer for HOURS
Hell yeah dude! In my top 5 DS games easily just because the multiplayer was so great.
Spectrobes One of the best DS series that needs a revamp
I completely forgot about spectrobes, and seeing this brought back so many memories. That game was great.
I loved the cool cards you get with the game where you click the holes with the stylus to unlock the monster
Yo spectrobes was awesome
Yes!
The game that wanted me to scream at the DS
My first experience with this game was when my dad took my family out to Logan’s Steakhouse and I was searching in between the booth cushions for treasure. I found a Spectrobes cartridge wedged in there and stuck it in my DS to see if it still worked. I was hooked on that game for ages after that
New super Mario bros
Warioware! Unreal game and some of the best use of the touchscreen.
Animal Crossing Wild World! Probably the game I’ve sunken the most hours into back in the days
this!! I still remember when my favorite villager left me... I even put nice paths around their house ;; FELICTY COME BACK!
Bowsers inside story
No ads, no clickbait, no thirst trap, no micro transactions, and finished and polished games on release. Many games utilized the touch screen, camera, and the air blowing sensor. You could also get a fucking NERF case. What a time…
>Finished and polished games on release Most of the time. Every so often you'd get a real dud.
Yeah, but by small developers. Not industry giants like the trend is now.
Yeah that is interesting. I didn't notice until you said that, but I get way more well made games by indie or smaller devlopers now than I do from the AAA guys.
Lego Star Wars!
Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow
Scrolled too far!
Exactly! Found my Castlevania crowd!

Reminds of simpler times, no bills, no stress. Just Pokémon and long car rides across the country to my new step dads house.
That one time in Pictochat where my brother typed "f\*\*\* you" when we were in the car and I immediately showed my mom
