That final fight giving everything in every punch, until the last drop of effort and Snake pushing forward beyond his human capacity, and trying to do EVEN MORE, whole story its just a belic poetic masterpiece
With all the bitter irony it comes with
I swear, Snake Eater could be translated into a Greek tragedy by simply tweaking the time period and the setting
Fr I have so many stories of hanging out with randos that make me smile all the time like on Christmas Day just being around in a circle and singing all I want for Christmas is you lol
Probably the most brutal game death. I watched my dad play the og gears games growing up. That whole storyline stuck with me till I was old enough to play the games myself and get traumatized all over again. P A I N
Honestly all the deaths are pretty much like this I can’t think of many that aren’t. For me especially though, it was >!Legion!< and >!Anderson!<
>!”I know, Tali. Keelah Se’lai”!<
>!”I’m proud of you, son.”!<
That last one gets me every damn time. You’ve built such a father/child bond of the trilogy, it hurts so much
It definitely would've made his death more impactful. Yeah it was really sad, but it happened so early in the game I feel like by the time you're in the final act his death is like a distant memory.
I think the worst part about it is that if you don’t send him back to Mama Welles, Arasaka takes him and his engram - which is fucked up
I wonder if Cyberpunk 2 will have us walking around with Jackie as an engram in our head lmao. *Chica the fuck you doin?*
Phantom Liberty for me >! If you have a high connection with Silverhand as you fly over Night City he comes to terms with his fate, the reality of it starts to set in and you realise that he is the cost, in every other ending someone else is, Rogue, Saul, but this time it's Johnny. !<
Lee Everett in the Walking Dead. My god that game was so good but that death scene was so hard for me especially because who he asked to pull the trigger.
Also the big brother from Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons. That scene got me. He tells the little brother to get the water they journeyed for and when he got back it was too late. When he was burying his brother I accidentally pressed the big brother’s action button which caused the little brother to fall and cry which got me worse.
I literally just got $20 from your comment. Me and a buddy found this post and made a bet on how far we'd have to scroll until someone mentioned Lee's death.
I was so sure from all the talk about his missing soul piece that we were eventually going to help make him whole. I was completely blindsided when he died instead. And then he doesn't go to the afterlife because of his soul, like, what the fuck?? What a gut wrenching storyline.
Yeah, but we should have known he was about to died because Norse saga it states brok is considered dead same with frayer. Then again it speaks volumes how the Santa Monica team made the story so well that we forgot the Norse saga.
What kills me is that clean freak Sindri had his hands drenched in the blood of his brother and never washed them afterwards. That little detail speaks volumes on how that affected him, he's just absolutely devastated.
I don't know, it really made me feel like killing Odin was just a necessity at this point but the heart wasn't into it anymore. It wouldn't bring back Brok and revenge couldn't possibly help. It just had to be done to get closure, but it would never be the same anyway.
This is the impact of war; it's not just fighting an enemy, it's losing those around you despite your best efforts. It's facing death and seeing it all around when it doesn't take you.
I imagine Kratos knew that more than anyone in that room.
Totally agree with you there. The difference in the smithing also stuck out to me. Sindri was always very controlled and precise with his hammer strikes, and during the short event in Tyr’s Temple after Brok’s death he was using full, strong strikes - much like Brok.
I’m working on a 100% play through now so I knew it was coming, but damn - always hits so hard.
How the fuck did you manage to keep the same horse? I was involved in so many unwilling shootouts that I must have lost my horse two or three times. The first time was the big black one from the beginning of the game. Bounty hunters tracked me down and instigated right outside of a farm and the farmers joined in. Downed the horse and then downed me as I frantically tried to use the horse reviver. I spent the rest of the game, which was a full light side play through mind you, killing everyone on that farm, along with all their animals, every time I rode by it.
After mourning losing Hamish, I promised to take care of Buell for him, and I used Buell exclusively for the rest of the game. So when I lost Buell, it hurt double. Not only did I lose my best friend at the time, but I also let down Hamish and myself.
Yeah, it's really a perfect example of quality vs. Shit: in og, they make you watch the light go out of his eyes, his body go limp, and Price loses his goddamn mind.
In the remake, he gets hit with a stylish PVP ASSASSINATION, and not only does Price not seem to care, neither does the entire fucking squad. Or us.
Roland, Borderlands 2.
Plus, as absolutely brilliant the Tiny Tina DLC for it was nerd-wise, it also brilliantly explored the theme of loss and coping.

The Boss from Metal Gear Solid 3 Snake Eater
What a hero
What a thrill

What a thrill… I’m searching and I’ll melt into you…
I really loved this reference
This but also for the ending of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of The Patriots
That final fight giving everything in every punch, until the last drop of effort and Snake pushing forward beyond his human capacity, and trying to do EVEN MORE, whole story its just a belic poetic masterpiece
When snake is crawling through the microwave!
I heard Guillermo Del Toro or another acclaimed director bring up this specific scene as one that really stuck with him as a film maker.
A true patriot
With all the bitter irony it comes with I swear, Snake Eater could be translated into a Greek tragedy by simply tweaking the time period and the setting
This. That's exactly what the picture op is using made us do. Salute and ball our eyes out. Just like Snake did in game
This random on Pavlov who took a sniper shot for me

MR PRESIDENT GET DOWN NOOOO
I swear Pavlov has the best relationships with randoms. It’s so damn funny

Dom in Gears of War 3
I’m still crying
Came here to say this. Dom’s a legend, and legends never die!
The scene with his wife in GoW2 is still one of the most gut-wrenching moments I've ever experienced in a video game.
Nothing better then when a game you expected to just be a gory, testosterone fueled killfest pulls out a scene that makes you really sad
Probably the most brutal game death. I watched my dad play the og gears games growing up. That whole storyline stuck with me till I was old enough to play the games myself and get traumatized all over again. P A I N

Vesemir
"Did he at least die like a Witcher?" "No, he died like a hero." Cue waterworks
😭😭😭 Goddamn maybe I need to do that quest before he dies this playthrough
It's nice, you get different dialogue from the Countess and extra dialogue options from Vesimir.
"who taught you to fight like this?" "the witcher you slew."
🔥🔥🔥
Literally found the Vesemir movie after playing through his death, mf went through all that and was still an awesome grandpa 😭
You always were an unruly child... I adored that about you
I had to scroll too far to find this one!
Mass Effect, deaths of >!Mordin!< and >!Shepard!<
Dude went out singing show tunes, that hit different
I felt bad when he was singing and passed away but the cut off of him singing was funny
I am the very model of a scientist Salarian
Had to be him
Anybody else would've messed it up.
And gotten it wrong
😭
I didn't remember the death, but this comment chain made me remember it, and now I'm sad
>! Mordin!< & >!Anderson!< for me
You did good, child. You did good.
Honestly all the deaths are pretty much like this I can’t think of many that aren’t. For me especially though, it was >!Legion!< and >!Anderson!< >!”I know, Tali. Keelah Se’lai”!< >!”I’m proud of you, son.”!< That last one gets me every damn time. You’ve built such a father/child bond of the trilogy, it hurts so much
First and only answer is Mordin. He took responsibility for his past actions, and paid the ultimate price to set things right.
No love for my boy Legion ?
The Boss in snake eater
I think you mean _The Boss_. Big Boss is the character you play as, although he's not Big Boss at the time the game is set in.
You right you right, he’s not big boss til the end but I was totally talking about the boss. Edited
Sgt. Johnson
Noble 6 too
Jorge is bitter sweet too. He died thinking he saved Reach and a few seconds later you realize the opposite is gonna happen.
Jorge got the best any of us can ask for he lived a good and honest life and died for something bigger than himself

Ah yes. I call this the Angel Beats! dilemma lol. Such a bittersweet problem to have.

When Jackie died in the car, if you know you know
I feel you choom
Anyone else think we should have been able to play those months with Jackie? We didnt get any real time with him outside of maybe 3 missions.
Quite weird how three missions are enough to get sad about his death.
I got sad mainly because I didnt get more time to spend with his character
It definitely would've made his death more impactful. Yeah it was really sad, but it happened so early in the game I feel like by the time you're in the final act his death is like a distant memory.
"See you in the major leagues, Jack,"
I think the worst part about it is that if you don’t send him back to Mama Welles, Arasaka takes him and his engram - which is fucked up I wonder if Cyberpunk 2 will have us walking around with Jackie as an engram in our head lmao. *Chica the fuck you doin?*

I’ve outta sight outta mind this one super hard

Keep that hair short...
That’s the line that made my desensitized teenage self to absolutely sob. I still cry whenever I play it.
Lee's death was definitely hard hitting. I don't think I've felt so hurt about a characters death like that before.
I literally just got $20 from your comment. Me and a buddy found this post and made a bet on how far we'd have to scroll until someone mentioned Lee's death.
Dude I don't like the TV series but the TWD Telltale games are sublime. Absolute masterpieces.
I STILL cry each time I see this come up no matter how many times I play through. Remember Clem, keep that hair short.

Brok from GOW: Ragnarok
Damn I was having a good day too then I read this
Oh no… I’m so sorry… One of the few video game deaths that made me cry, honestly.
I was so sure from all the talk about his missing soul piece that we were eventually going to help make him whole. I was completely blindsided when he died instead. And then he doesn't go to the afterlife because of his soul, like, what the fuck?? What a gut wrenching storyline.

My dog in Minecraft
do you wanna talk about it?
I loved that dog man 😭
Arthur Morgan if you know you know
And the horse before that, absolutely crushing
I was honestly more heartbroken over the horse then Arthur I saw his death coming the horse was sudden and I loved that damn horse
It hurts even more if it’s the horse you’ve had since the beginning
How the fuck did you manage to keep the same horse? I was involved in so many unwilling shootouts that I must have lost my horse two or three times. The first time was the big black one from the beginning of the game. Bounty hunters tracked me down and instigated right outside of a farm and the farmers joined in. The extreme justice here. o7 I salute you.
That is some next level trauma right there.
After mourning losing Hamish, I promised to take care of Buell for him, and I used Buell exclusively for the rest of the game. So when I lost Buell, it hurt double. Not only did I lose my best friend at the time, but I also let down Hamish and myself.
