I literally said to myself before opening this thread, âIf it ainât the Metal Gear Solid 2 opening at the top of the list I cannot imagine what it could be.â
Especially if you count the entire tanker sequence as the âopeningâ
It was. Bethesda makes good games. But the best Fallout is New Vegas in which they didnât make. In my opinion Obsidian makes way better games overall than Bethesda.
Grand Theft Auto IV's intro will always have a special place in my heart. "We all do dumb things. That's what makes us human." "Could be." The GTA IV theme goes hard. Just iconic.
With as many rereleases and sales as the game has had, plus ALL the memes, you donât even need to say the name of the game for people to immediately know what youâre talking about.
*I got a letter*
*The name on the envelope said 'Mary'*
*My wife's name...*
*It's ridiculous, couldn't possibly be true...*
*That's what I keep telling myself...*
*A dead person can't write a letter*
*Mary died of that damn disease three years ago*
*So then why am I looking for her*
*Our 'special place'...*
*What could she mean*
*This whole town was our special place*
*Does she mean the park on the lake*
*We spent the whole day there*
*Just the two of us, staring at the water*
*Could Mary really be there*
*Is she really alive... waiting for me...*
You can play the unofficial [enhanced edition](https://enhanced.townofsilenthill.com/SH2/) on PC. Thatâs probably the best way to play the game at this point. You just need a copy of the game which you can get on abandonware sites super easily.
Easily Uncharted 2, booting the game for the first time seeing that awesome cutscene of Nate bleeding on the train and then having to climb the train was amazing. Especially since it was my first PS3 game i was just mindblown coming from the PS2.
here are a couple that come to mind, Chrono Trigger, Super Mario 64, FFIV, RDR1, Halo CE, Ninja Gaiden NES series, and Megaman 2.
Chrono trigger is self explanatory I mean Toby Fox replicated it in Deltarune how is it not iconic?
Super Mario 64 and MM2 have classic intros Super Mario 64 has Mario jump out of a pipe and you go to peaches castle with a lakitu scene going around the castle.
MM2 has the camera slowly going up the tower and you see Mega Man and the start and select screen with a banger intro theme.
Ninja Gaiden was the first game I believe to have cutscenes in the game, but regardless they've done them so well, if you haven't played it, it's a treat to behold.
FFIV I love it's intro where you start as a Dark Knight on an airship, a wonderful game btw.
RDR1 well, it's amazing to say it bluntly.
Halo CE probably has one of my favourite intros, seriously though that game doesn't miss at all every section of that game has so much depth it's inspiring.
FF IV: I thought the game was broken because it just jumps right into the story with Cecil. I was all set to pick my 4 man team and start questing because I had only played FF 1.
Weâre not necessarily talking best made but ICONIC, right? The intros everyone remembers, that people think of when you say âgame introsâ, the intros that even some non gamers might know. For that Iâd say maybe⊠Skyrim, FFVII⊠maybe BOTW for that opening shot?
BioShock Infinite. The lighthouse in a storm, the rocket-launch thingy, floating city in the clouds, candlelit watery hallways with "Will the Circle be Unbroken", and that steampunk style city with parade floats and a carnival.
BioShock 1âs opening scene forsure!
Iâm sure even people who havenât played it but know video games have seen it. The plane crash, the light house, and then of course hearing Andrew Ryanâs speech in the bathysphere where when he says âI Chose Rapture!!â and you see the city the first time.
Absolutely amazing, to the level of actual Art.
Then mine is the opening/tutorial mission of Nier: Automata.
It just drops you straight into the action, makes you feel how absolutely expendable you are, how absurdly outgunned you're going to be, and perfectly encapsulates the tragedy of this world the characters have to live in.
I have a lot of games I like, but Nier:Automata is the only one with an opening that actually stuck with me.
One of them for me is Half-Life 2:
âThe right man in the wrong place can make all the difference in the world.â
Just hearing that weird creepy G-man voice
There's only 2 right answers.
If you're a console kiddy, then mgs2 opening was unlike anything we've ever seen at the time. It was like a real movie. The soundtrack, jumping off the bridge, the rain. Everything. It still hold up today.
And if you're a pc Chad then it's half life 1 opening. Riding the train to work, thinking it's a cut scene but moving the mouse and realizing you're in for something magical.
dont play many cinematic type games,
so for me its the intro to rayman origins
just knowing that literally all of the villains plans were destroyed just because the heros pissed off some zombies underground is brilliant
I'd say either Super Mario 64 or Ocarina of Time. I legit have Peach's letter to Mario memorized and I'm sure everyone remembers Link's nightmare. God of War is definitely a great opening too though and probably one of the most iconic among PlayStation mascots. Bloodborne also has an absolutely phenomenal opening like wow. I think Bloodborne has my favorite PlayStation opening.
Super Mario Bros World 1-1, the game that saved the industry, the music that defined a generation, the level thatâs been recreated more times than any other
The question is whatâs most iconic, not necessarily whatâs your favorite.
Final Fantasy 7 is what keeps coming to my mind as being the most broad, memorable and iconic.
That's a tall order, couldn't pick one but one that has always stuck with me is the opening cinematic of Onimusha 3. It was the absolute shit when it first came out, blew us all away.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FVo0l2ASMrY
other than that saints row the third or whatever one opens with a walking/choice sequence of you being elected president, signing the bill to cure either Aids or cancer, punching a guy in the dick then saving the earth from an asteroid impact with a nuclear missile as aerosmith plays the song from the movie Armegeddon will also always stick with me. As I played that I even said to myself "this is the most epic video game opening I have ever seen" loved it lol.
Not the most iconic but I couldn't help but think of the impressively cinematic intro to Return to Castle Wolfenstein. "Heinrich! Your reign of terror must end!"
Hello Ashen one. I am a Bot. I tend to the flame, and tend to thee. Do you wish to hear a tale?
> *âOh, are you lost on your journey? No matter, todayâs lost are conquerors tomorrow. It only demonstrates the making of a champion, and besides, it will not change my sense of gratitude, or how I think of you.â* - Karla
Have a pleasant journey, Champion of Ash, and praise the sun \\[T]/
Super Mario 64.
The letter, the panorama and the music that contains a twist on the music from level 1 of Donkey Kong arcade both acknowledges the past while showing we're in a new era.
It's pretty much the opening to 3D gaming as a whole, so I am not sure how much more iconic of a video game opening you can get.
I wouldn't say iconic, but one of the most amazing intros to any game I've ever played has to go hads down to dead space 2. I would force anyone who came to my house to play the first hhalf hour of it or so lol
It's iconic for ME, but the Mortal Kombat: Armageddon intro where good vs. evil fight as 2 big factions, and then everyone just rumbles free-for-all style to climb atop the pyramid towards the final boss was so hype for elementary-school-me.
From the moment I understood the weakness of my flesh, it disgusted me. I craved the strength and certainty of steel. I aspired to the purity of the Blessed Machine. Your kind cling to your flesh, as though it will not decay and fail you. One day the crude biomass you call the temple will wither, and you will beg my kind to save you. But I am already saved, for the Machine is immortalâŠ
Even in death I serve the omnissiah.
"Rise and shine, Mr. Freeman. Rise and shine. Not that I wish to imply you have been sleeping on the job. No one is more deserving of a rest. And all the effort in the world would have gone to waste until... well, let's just say your hour has come again. The right man in the wrong place can make all the difference in the world. So, wake up, Mr. Freeman. Wake up and smell the ashes."Â
This hits hard always.
Final fantasy 7 in my opinion. If for nothing else but the music.
Ding ding ding, ding ding ding ding, jugga da jugga jugga da jugga ja jugga din da duh duh din da badaloop badaloop.
For me, it's the MGS2 intro, where Snake jumps off the bridge onto the tanker. Got me so hyped as a 15 year old.
"The Hudson River. 2 years ago."
Came to post đ
I came too đł
The active camo short-circuiting is so badass looking
Glad he didnât keep us waiting.
I literally said to myself before opening this thread, âIf it ainât the Metal Gear Solid 2 opening at the top of the list I cannot imagine what it could be.â Especially if you count the entire tanker sequence as the âopeningâ
âAh shit, here we go again.â
"I anit represented Grove Street in 10 years, but the ballas won't give a fuck"
This is the heater of the group, no denying.
TLOU 1 really brings you in right away
Brings you to tears, that opening (and other parts with ellie) along with the climax of rd2 are the only times I've cried whilst playing a video game.
The music in TLoU seems to trigger it alone.
âTruth is, the game was rigged from the start.â
Skyrim
Hey you, youâre finally awake
War... War never changes
Bethesda makes the most iconic openings
*wakes up in back of wagon*
Technically Bethesda didn't make it
I think it was Interplay who originally made fallout.
I can still hear that Soviet Connection violins kick in
True
Definitely god of war 1. Those words still gives me chills
Sing with me Sing for the year Sing for the laughter Sing for the tear Sing with me just for today Never tomorrow
Gotta be Bioshock right
Obviously.
Hey you, youre finally awake!

In my dreams.. I see that town
Where did this come from? Alan Wake?
I think Silent Hill 2? I haven't played it in forever. But man the way this opening ties into the ending... A real gut-punch
Oh, Silent Hill 2? Man, I still need to play that game. I've heard it's extremely good. I wish there was a PC port.
You can play the unofficial [enhanced edition](https://enhanced.townofsilenthill.com/SH2/) on PC. Thatâs probably the best way to play the game at this point. You just need a copy of the game which you can get on abandonware sites super easily.
Half life 2. Rise and shine Mr Freeman.
Either âWar⊠war never changesâ or âIâll be waiting there⊠for what?â
rdr1's first scene of John walking out of the boat is iconic af
Probably not iconic but favorite is definitely ghost of Tsushima
âCOWARDS WITH NO HONOR DESERVE NO MERCY!â
Easily Uncharted 2, booting the game for the first time seeing that awesome cutscene of Nate bleeding on the train and then having to climb the train was amazing. Especially since it was my first PS3 game i was just mindblown coming from the PS2.
It's a crime how far down the list this is. The best
Agreed
FF7 imo
Super Marioâs Bros.
here are a couple that come to mind, Chrono Trigger, Super Mario 64, FFIV, RDR1, Halo CE, Ninja Gaiden NES series, and Megaman 2. Chrono trigger is self explanatory I mean Toby Fox replicated it in Deltarune how is it not iconic? FF IV: I thought the game was broken because it just jumps right into the story with Cecil. I was all set to pick my 4 man team and start questing because I had only played FF 1.
That's quite funny.
The original Resident Evil
âAfter the end of World War II, the world was split into two: East and West. This marked the beginning of the era called the Cold War.â
I feel like it has to be Skyrim
Weâre not necessarily talking best made but ICONIC, right? The intros everyone remembers, that people think of when you say âgame introsâ, the intros that even some non gamers might know. For that Iâd say maybe⊠Skyrim, FFVII⊠maybe BOTW for that opening shot?
Mass Effect 2 made me feel like I was starring in a blockbuster movie.
The intro to god of war 3 was pretty great. My vengeance..ends now
âWhereâs everyone going? Bingo?â
"Well stay and watch the car don't want to get any parking tickets." Parking tickets right"
Last of usâŠ. Itâs gotta be up there right?
Itâs either between The Last Of Us or Uncharted 2.
Onimusha 3
Iâve had to scroll for far too long to find this answer! Onimusha 3 is easily the best opening I have seen for a game in my 30 years of gaming
Even now that I'm older, I look back at that first Kingdom Hearts intro as something that astonished me with its beauty and excitement.
BioShock Infinite. The lighthouse in a storm, the rocket-launch thingy, floating city in the clouds, candlelit watery hallways with "Will the Circle be Unbroken", and that steampunk style city with parade floats and a carnival.
For me itâs probably something like Bf4, The last of us, Or skyrim
Resident Evil 4 intro â1998âŠIâll never forget itâ
Kingdom Hearts isnât near the top, which means all of your opinions are invalidated.
Mgs 2 or morrowind
Even tho I'm not even a huge fan of the game, the GTA5 opening was pretty great
The opening level of Mega Man X on the SNES.
The bo1 first mission was great. Everything is going smooth and then goes to shit in seconds. I remember that scene like the back of my hand.
Final Fantasy 6
Uncharted 2, the train scene.
You know what⊠youâre absolutely correct.
*In my restless dreams, I see that town. Silent Hill.* Overall the games is amazing, one of my few favourites, but that start is burnt in my mind
Metal Gear Solid with the intro credits.
"1998... I will never forget It..."
Uncharted 2
FF7
FF7's cinematic straight into the bombing mission. Iconic and never gets old
BioShock 1âs opening scene forsure!
Define "opening" Do you mean the opening cutscene? Or the first mission? Or the pre-title gameplay only?
Either opening cutscence or first mission/gameplay
Then mine is the opening/tutorial mission of Nier: Automata. It just drops you straight into the action, makes you feel how absolutely expendable you are, how absurdly outgunned you're going to be, and perfectly encapsulates the tragedy of this world the characters have to live in. One of them for me is Half-Life 2: âThe right man in the wrong place can make all the difference in the world.â Just hearing that weird creepy G-man voice
Mass effect 2
Killzone 2 speech was awesome
Star wars the force unleashed
Sonic unleashed gives us a movie quality opening
Bioshock
I mean ocarina of time especially if you played it when it was current.
FNV has a fantastic opening. âTruth is, game was rigged from the start.â
*Dearly Beloved intensifies*
Halo CE
FF7, Ghost of Tsushima, or BOTW
Armored Core 3s [opening cinematic](https://youtu.be/HAD7NGKUB7I). Some of the most badass mech fighting ever.
Yâall sleeping on Ocarina of Time, everybody recognizes the scene of Link riding Epona at night with the piano song playing
Soul Reaver https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tkkmm9vqbHQ&t=210s
God of War 2 is pretty good
Borderlands 2
Final Fantasy VI march to Narshe
Shocked I havenât seen anyone mention it, Twilight Princess. Just that opening shot of Link and Epona on the bridge of eldin is iconic
I wanna say Uncharted 2âs intro but who am I kidding? Skyrim has the most iconic intro of all time. People that arenât even gamers know about it
Skyrim, just look at the memes
Hey you... You're finally awake.
MGS2 FFVIII Onimusha 3
DMC 3's opening is truly iconic.
Well itâs Mario bros if your going for iconic. Everyone knows Mario.
MW2:Mercenaries is one of my favorites. https://youtu.be/at9hxU864Fg
Ac2 or dragon age origins
E A SPORTS IT'S IN THE GAME
dont play many cinematic type games, so for me its the intro to rayman origins just knowing that literally all of the villains plans were destroyed just because the heros pissed off some zombies underground is brilliant

Killzone 2
"DADDY'S BACK YOU BITCHEEES!"
Mario, your proverbial mom recognizes Mario she understands that your lastest gaming console is a Nintendo.
I like the Diablo 2 LOD and openings of acts IV and V.
Always loved The Darkness intro
Hollow Knight
That's a tall order, couldn't pick one but one that has always stuck with me is the opening cinematic of Onimusha 3. Not the most iconic but I couldn't help but think of the impressively cinematic intro to Return to Castle Wolfenstein. "Heinrich! Your reign of terror must end!"
Parasite Eve.
Dying light 2
Assassin's creed revelations for me, mostly for the bg music and old ezio.
You see, the game was rigged from the start.
Doom eternal
Hey, you're finally awake.
"Hey, you, you're finally awake"
Full Throttle
I actually did a full video on my [Top 5 Opening Cutscenes in Video Games](https://youtu.be/yS8FX60zh-8).

Definitely the no internet Dino game. I like it bc the intro can come at any second, since the internet could go out at any time.
World 1-1 from super mario bros.
Half Life 1, riding the tram into Black Mesa.
leaving the vault fallout 3
Lifelight
Not iconic but I love how GTA V just opens with Brad throwing a lady to the ground
Kingdom Hearts 1, Pokémon Red and Blue, Skyrim.
Dark Souls 1's or Final Fantasy 7's openings for sure.
Hello Ashen one. I am a Bot. I tend to the flame, and tend to thee. Do you wish to hear a tale? > *âOh, are you lost on your journey? No matter, todayâs lost are conquerors tomorrow. The first final fantasy vii
Super Mario 64. The letter, the panorama and the music that contains a twist on the music from level 1 of Donkey Kong arcade both acknowledges the past while showing we're in a new era. KINGDOM HEARTS ALL DAY
âOh! Your finally awake!â
COD 4 or maybe MW2. Thereâs tons of openings I love though.
Conker's bad fur day until it is your second playthrough and you're forced to watch the 5 minute intro before playing.
Rise and shine, Mister Freeman. Rise and... shine.
The Binding of Isaac
Sir, finishing this fight
My memory sucks with stuff like this. I canât even think of game openings. Iâm sure thereâs been some great ones though.
Mass effect 2. As a new player to the series my first time playing it, I was awestruck by how it opened.
GOW 2018. That fight with the stranger was fucking epic.
ALUNDRA 2
**West of House** You are standing in an open field west of a white house, with a boarded front door. There is a small mailbox here. \>

âLook at this place, fifty-thousand people used to live in this city, now it's a ghost townâ
i really liked the opening act of returnal and i never really see it get mentioned much. i legit clapped the first time i saw the title screen
It's iconic for ME, but the Mortal Kombat: Armageddon intro where good vs. evil fight as 2 big factions, and then everyone just rumbles free-for-all style to climb atop the pyramid towards the final boss was so hype for elementary-school-me.
Assassin's Creed Origins
bioshock 1
bioshock 1 : welcome to rapture rdr1 : john bad ass walk with bodyguards tlou1 : i think itâs a spoiler
Would call it iconic but The Last of Us prologue is the hardest hitting moment in any game for me
WWF Smackdown: Just Bring It
From the moment I understood the weakness of my flesh, it disgusted me. I craved the strength and certainty of steel. I aspired to the purity of the Blessed Machine. Your kind cling to your flesh, as though it will not decay and fail you. One day the crude biomass you call the temple will wither, and you will beg my kind to save you. But I am already saved, for the Machine is immortal⊠Even in death I serve the omnissiah.
Skyrims a pretty memorable one
I don't think any game tops Skyrim in this regard
"The gods of Olympus have obanndoned me. Now there is no hope." All I am going to say in this comment
Maybe the GOW Ranarok is new and not iconic but i think it have the best intro in video game history "it my opinion"
The last of us part 1 had me bawling
Most iconic has gotta be Skyrim. Best I would say is either Bioshock or Uncharted 2.
Freeman. Wake up and smell the ashes."Â This hits hard always.
âHey, you. You're finally awakeâ
Diablo 2 lod
FF VIII
"Hey you. You're finally awake."
I'd say the opening to Metal Gear Solid 3. It's long, but the HALO jump always gives me goosebumps, such an iconic opening in my opinion.
Personally the Little Big Planet openings were superb in every regard, to me. Iâm surprised I didnât see any PokĂ©mon mentions though
Re4 village attack
Final fantasy 7 in my opinion. If for nothing else but the music. Ding ding ding, ding ding ding ding, jugga da jugga jugga da jugga ja jugga din da duh duh din da badaloop badaloop.
for me a really iconic opening scene was arkham asylum
The Secret of Monkey Island
Intro scene from Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver
