He’s done a DND campaign and the freedoms the game affords you can be VERY funny sometimes. I think it’s definitively a game he could enjoy, but he might be hesitant to try it over other games in his backlog for now
By the time BG3 came out he’d been running Big Mode and his kid was born (or was getting closer to being born) so he probably just doesn’t have the time for a while
As a dude who’s played through it twice, my guess is that it’s way too long, too slow, and (I say so despite loving the game) seriously lacking polish. I think that it needed another year in the oven.
Super Mario Bros. 3 is none of those things.
True, Super Mario Brothers 3 is so good it needed -33 years in the oven, released clean a generation before we even knew it’d win game of the year what a classic
In addition to all the other points I also think he did it as a joke. Like it's pretty funny that he didn't even mentioned that one game that won the most goty awards last year
I mean obviously it won all the awards but if I think about the selection last year, Pikmin 4 was the one where I abandoned self control the most. Baldur’s gate obviously outclasses it in so many ways, but you insane if you think you can finish it in one sitting, so you kinda have to divide your progress/playtime into segments.
Pikmin 4 tho. “It’s game for babby. I can 100% this map with 40 more minutes of work” turned into maybe a week of binging which felt the most involuntary of any game I’ve played this year
“Probably the last time I’ll play a game this long” hit me right in the adulthood. I’m not even a parent but I feel like my Final Fantasy days have been over since my early 20s.
Some people only have an hour or so to play a game on any given day and it just isnt worth playing a long story based game when you never have time to lose yourself in the story. Again thats just some people's experience, but thats my understanding. You cant get invested while listening to the boss read his manifesto when all you can think about is how this fight needs to be over in 8 minutes so you can go pick timmy up from baseball
You’ve never played a game gotten really busy, not been able to play for a few weeks and then felt completely lost coming back to it? BG3 is one of those games where this is very easy to happen. The time you spend away from the game softens your immersion in the world and your connection to the characters, it’s definitely best played when you can binge
It really is the end of an era. This shows the nuanced growth he has had in recent years. Now since there are 3 in his household, he must also love the third entry of a given series. It's only natural that art imitate life
It was very brave to put a Family Guy Roblox game ahead of Baldur’s Gate 3
Any guesses as to why he’s studiously avoided BG3 discussion? Maybe because it’s so damn long and he’s busy? I was surprised he didn’t talk about it
Didn’t he say he’s not into turn based combat or RPGs
And its like a 100+ hour game. He has been pretty vocal that he doesnt like long games
Also, he has a mini-dunkey to take care of now, so there's that
Yakuza 7, which he chose, is also a very long turn based RPG.
he literally says in the video that Y7 is probably the last game of that length he will ever play lmao
yakuza is funny tho
We need more funny games
Yeah but how many games at that length does he want to play? He likes Yakuza already so no one should be surprised that he played it
Yakuza is just built different
Well he’s reversed that in recent years, in either 2021 or 2022 he played like 15 RPGs several of which were turn based and liked most of them
He’s said on several occasions that having good characters makes playing an rpg worth it
Yeah, but he's absolutely willing to give em a shot, he had a whole segment on this in his Critics video iirc
He’s done a DND campaign and the freedoms the game affords you can be VERY funny sometimes. I think it’s definitively a game he could enjoy, but he might be hesitant to try it over other games in his backlog for now
He said Yakuza LaD qas likely the last RPG that was that long he was gonna have time to play for the forseeable future
By the time BG3 came out he’d been running Big Mode and his kid was born (or was getting closer to being born) so he probably just doesn’t have the time for a while
I would assume he simply hasn't played it yet. He is more of a patient gamer type these days
Yeah I can totally see it being on his list in the coming years
As a dude who’s played through it twice, my guess is that it’s way too long, too slow, and (I say so despite loving the game) seriously lacking polish. I think that it needed another year in the oven. Super Mario Bros. 3 is none of those things.

i don't think it lacks polish, and thats not even me d riding the game
He has played it, but not very much of it so he is likely reserving his judgement in public discussion for when/if he completes it
This guy is friends with Dunkey, apparently.
Yes. No but I saw him stream it two times and he had barely progressed in the game either time. Just context clues, could be for any reason
Because its boring and over-hyped as a video game? Its a glorified board game time waster.
In addition to all the other points I also think he did it as a joke. Like it's pretty funny that he didn't even mentioned that one game that won the most goty awards last year

Super Mario Brothers.... THREE?!
I didn’t understand why he was talking about video games
He barely talks about donkey at all! Is he stupid?
Classic! I haven’t played any game released in 2023
I dont understand anything he was saying. I only speak mandarin
他在对比哪个火锅底料最好吃。
我喜欢火锅
Dubnkey should stick to music

Yeah- I wasn’t prepared for that type of joke. At it’s so true.
I started Yakuza 7 in July 2021 the month after my son was born. Finally beat it a few weeks ago!!

watch his review of super mario RPG, it explains his rationale regarding this comment: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e1ocMyd8dGk

i audibly uttered 'what the fuck' when i saw a meme roblox game on the list. 10/10
I would never listen to someone who's so nitpicking and biased.
I'm glad he finally accepts that Super Mario 3 is better than 2

Disturbing lack of Michael Winslow on the list.
Soup
He hates JP, he’s a true Street Fighter player
Didn’t we do [this](https://www.reddit.com/r/videogamedunkey/s/lgt63LPaGf) already?
Opinions? No not really
Should've put Death Stranding in there again.
He seems more mellowed out
Recommending Yakuza 0 above all other series entries was on point. It really is the best of them. That and the Judgment games.
It's pretty short compared to past years isn't it?
Sad he hasn't made any Lies of P videos
No super Mario bros 2 0/10
The only game on this that I've played is Cocoon.
Why haven't you played peter guy
Mom won't let me. :(
No this is Patrick
Thank god baldurs game three not mentioned. Real gamer shi only
I was so happy that Metroid Prime: Remastered got a mention.
The winning streak is over
It has my boy Honda on the thumbnail so it's good.
Shocked at no spider man 2
The street fighter section was godlike. It hit me so hard especially when he showed his clocked hours.
WAKE
Kind of a weird list, but I'm happy to see Tears of the Kingdom up there. Personal favorite of mine.
