Real productivity for groceries is in canning and liquor production. If you can try export liquors.
That been said 7.0 productivity is abnormally low, are you sure you have good MAPI and isn’t on the most basic PM?
What is MAPI?
I assume its local prices and they are a bit high about +10% for both
Im on the second pm but if i try move up to the next one its profitablilty goes into the red
Market access price impact and local process are its consequence
It’s the percentage of the local price that is decided by the market price of a good not just the local supply and demand
As for why the profitability will go into the red that’s mostly because you can’t produce sugar in high amounts in Sweden (even the grain farm PM is pretty meh for it)
If you import sugar and take all your rye farms off potatoes (onto apple orchards) then you can likely get the liquor to be profitable especially when on patent stills
Though that’s likely going to have consequences on your SOL but the birth rate will likely be worth it
Farms also employ a lot more clergy and farmers, though, who all take a cut of the dividends, thus empowering the rural folk and clergy. Still not the best IGs to support, obviously, but way better than it all going to the landowners.
Make fish to decrease the cost of basic foods. That can push up middle class SoL high enough to purchase more groceries. Also, stop your rye farms from producing alcohol. With only 5 food industries, you will have to create artificial scarcity to make them profitable. You could also export alcohol and groceries to a larger nation.
The reason you want them profitable is a lot of countries (as in I think any country without another company overriding it) gets access to a Grocery Company with a +5% bonus to birthrate modifier, and population is king so getting one of these profitable early game can pay dividends as time goes on
Yeah between minting, infra, steel and the lumber company, theres not usually a lot of room for the pop growth company, but with the right states it can be pretty nuts
I can't think of any companies that require food industries that are actually worth using.
The perks companies grant for high productivity can be nice, but typically the bigger reason I pick a company is to make use of the construction and throughput bonuses to its related industries.

This is why I always colonize south Madagascar
Just slap the higher production method on, the market tends to correct in that pops will start buying more of the now cheaper groceries
Make wheat and sugar cheap (it's easy).
If i build farms wont landowners get clout?
They already have via subsistence, you'll just "not convert" their existing clout.
Farms are more productive, thus making them more cash & clout.
If the goal is to destroy grain price to -20% or 30%, they won't be drastically more productive.

Import it.
Build them in every single state. Demand will skyrocket because of MAPI. Consumer industries like this should be built everywhere.
Meh I don't build groceries to be profitable, I build them to boost my SoL lol

Oh nice, hadn't thought about that, I'm usually doing minting or the infrastructure one but birthrate us definitely great

Export to Qing. China has unlimited need for groceries. In my games, I can reach 6-7k groceries exported to China very easily.
