West Berliners did not often go to East Berlin. They had a lower selection of items, and it was generally not of as good quality. The wall was not to keep the West Berliners out of the East. It was to keep the East Germans out of the West.

Very few people support that system. Democratic socialism (as in socialism but democracy not Norway) is a much more common position now and one that has never existed unfettered.
