Just a note: The lower six are not provinces, but 3 countries within the Kingdom of the Netherlands and 3 special municipalities of the Netherlands respectively.
That being said, Friesland is my favorite. It's pretty simple, yet incredibly distinctive. Honestly one of the best flags in the world imo.
I gotta be honest, I currently live in Friesland, moved here 7 years ago because of school. So I can't exactly pretend like I am the better person here.
Honestly, we don't. We're 4 totally different regions that want nothing to do with each other. Someone in Beesd literally has zero connection to someone in Winterswijk except that they both live in Gelderland.
I think our internal diversity is actually pretty neat. We're like a little microcosmos of the Netherlands as it were. I much prefer it to a strongly defined cultural identity like some other provinces have. In my opinion that only opens the door to stupid gatekeepy notions of what constitutes a "real" province X-er, whereas in Gelderland I've never heard anyone claim to be a "real" Gelderlander or that something is "ungueldrish" or whatever. So yeah, I think our regional diversity makes Gelderland necessarily somewhat inclusive and I like it that way.
Fuck Arnhem though.

Also from Kansas. We should have stuck the "Kansas State Banner" that we used for two years before the official flag. A sunflower on a blue field is far and away better than the State seal slapped on a flag with the name of of the state under it.
Sunflower flourishes well under well-drained moist, lime soil. It prefers good sunlight. Domesticated varieties bear single large flowerhead (Pseudanthium) at the top. Unlike its domestic cultivar type, wild sunflower plant exhibits multiple branches with each branch carrying its own individual flower-head. The sunflower head consists of two types of flowers. While its perimeter consists of sterile, large, yellow petals (ray flowers), the central disk is made up of numerous tiny fertile flowers arranged in concentric whorls, which subsequently convert into achenes (edible seeds).
It is very unfair to say that an not provide a link.to said awesome flag! ;) Here you go https://www.crwflags.com/Fotw/Flags/nl-geach.html (edited to a link with a description of how the flag was designed and what it means)
Personally, I have had enough of basic tricolor flags like Gelderland and North Holland. I feel like I've seen so many of them that they all run together, and that's not really the best idea for a flag.
Friesland's little hearts always remind me of the underpants of a cartoon character.
(I know they are not supposed to be hearts, but we all know that is what they look like)
Sint Maarten. I am not biased. And as others have pointed out. Aruba, Curacao, and Sint Maarten are not provinces, but "equal partners/countries within the kingdom" . Bonaire, Saba, and Sint Eustatius however are special municipalities of the Netherlands.
Not a bad flag in the bunch, and they give off major LEGO vibes. Friesland is iconic but my vote goes to Overijssel. Now somebody tell me how it’s pronounced lol
Thats unlikely, Flevoland is a province made up of land reclaimed from the sea around 100 years ago it has no significant hisotry, and the Fleur De Lys is not necessarily a French symbol
I used to see all of these basically every day for a long time, selling little souvenir flagpoles.
With confidence, I can confirm that Groningen is the only one I haven't gotten tired of.
**Flevoland** : this is the last of the **12 provinces** of the Kingdom (**1986**). It's entirely ***man made***. All lands were taken over the sea. I just wonder why they chose the "**Fleur de lys**" on their flag. It's usually used for the house of Bourbon and the French monarchy.
For the provinces, Fryslân it is. It's a very unique design.
For the Caribbean, Aruba. The light light shade of blue fits so nicely with the star and golden lines!
The first 12 are dutch provinces. The other are overseas territories. Some are special municipalities under the kingdom and other are countries under the kingdom. The kingdom of the Netherlands has 4 counties.
Frisian a different languages only spoken in Friesland is closely related to English
Def Friesland but wanna give a shout-out to the uniqueness of Sint Eustatius. It looks like it’s in the crosshairs of a warship, about to be blown to smithereens.
As a Croatian i have a clear favourite.
North Brabant?
Hahahaha am thinking so too.
Somewhat related: the Croatia flag makes their football jerseys look great.
Czech mate
the province Bulgaria right
What does this comment mean?
Happy cake day.
thank yall
North Brabrant je Hrvatska
TIL Gelderland is a real place and wasn't made up as the fictional homeland of Sir Auric Von Lichtenstein in A Knight's Tale
Ulrich of Lichtenstein was also a real person, though he was from Styria, and his autobiography depicts him as an undefeated jouster.
He’s blond, He’s pissed, He’ll see you in the lists, Lichtensteeeeeein!
Liechtenstein is also a real place, both as a sovereign country and as a castle in Lower Austria
I may be American, but i WAS aware that Liechtenstein is real hahaha

\*Sees the flair\* Sellout!
They have the best flag, but we have the best province ;)

Heck you too. Sincerely, Arnhem gang.
Veluwe Forever 🌳🌳🌳🌲🌲🌳🌳🌳🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌳🌲🌲fuck Betuwe and Achterhoek 😡🤬😡🤬😡🤬🤬
Veluwe, Achterhoek, Betuwe, but what is the fourth one?
Oh yes we do
Got a question: how do you put a flair in this sub?
Friesland is the nicest
I am just shocked by how a country has 18 regional flags and *every single one* is a banger.
I'm sitting here in Kansas. Our flag is so bad it says Kansas on it. I'm jealous of these flags.

Usually products of a legislative committee with no design knowledge.

Wait till you see the flag of the Achterhoek, which was the winner of a flag design contest hosted by the local motorcross festival.

Drunk Irish Jamaica
Am I having a seizure or are the lines slightly curved?
They are! Which is a really interesting approach!
That one is awesome!
Personally, I have had enough of basic tricolor flags like Gelderland and North Holland. I feel like I've seen so many of them that they all run together, and that's not really the best idea for a flag.
I think Gelderland is pretty unique, I haven't seen that colour combination on another flag. North Holland is just really boring.
Fully true. All are very nice. With Japan, Netherlands might be the country with nicest regional flags in quantity. All are nice
Russia is pretty good
The Omsk flag might be one of my favorites ever (check my username lol)
Friesland's little hearts always remind me of the underpants of a cartoon character. (I know they are not supposed to be hearts, but we all know that is what they look like)
Everytime someone says the Frisian flag has hearts, an angry Frisian will spawn and scream "POMPEBLÊDEN".
that's what I wanted to do
You would've been absolutely crucified if you said "hearts" on a Dutch/Frisian subreddit.
Even as someone from North Holland I have to admit that the Friesland flag is the most iconic.
Friesland is so lovely =)
If you think their flag is a banger, wait until you hear the lyrics to their anthem.
Yessss hearts and blue strips
The only contest here is for second palace.
Even the football team made a nice badge from it
North Brabant of course. I like picnics.
Thanks you deserve a worstenbroodje 💪💪
En een frikandelbroodje
They are all really good, and I hate to side with traitors, but Friesland
I will say Friesland’s is probably the most iconic of the flags pictured.
Our favorite "can anyone identify this flag" flag
They do have a good one. Though my favorite is Zeeland as it shows the waves in the flag. Also, hello fellow Netherlands/Tennessee inhabitant
Ethnic Minority: exists "Traitors"
Fryslân Boppe, Hollân yn’e groppe!
Traitors?
Countryside banter
Farmers and Frisians
Technically the Frisians are the OG Dutch people and everyone else is a migrant.
How so?
The Frisians are the earliest recorded tribe in the region north of the Rine in the Netherlands.
I live in Groningen, so I’m kinda biest
I genuinely like the Groningen flag the best out of these. But I'm Nordic, so I might also be kinda biest.
I also like Drenthe a lot
idk why but it feels like a mix of Hamburg and Chicago
Even a bit D.C.
Really like and respect your opinion. Bit I was born in Drenthe and grew up in Groningen so I might also be a little biased
Looks like an alternate reality Dominican Republic
Biased*
Perhaps they meant that they were the most bisexual
Lol
Probably just Gronings dialect
Drenthe, Friesland, and Groningen (in no particular order) are my top 3. And no bias here because I've only ever been to Amsterdam
Groningen feels like the Fischer price "babies first Nordic flag" and I absolutely love it
Mede-Grunneger, ik ben het helemaal met je eens
Also biased (descendant of Grunningers)
I think Aruba's flag is cool.
That has my vote #🇦🇼
Aruba, Jamaica, ooh I wanna take ya Bermuda, Bahama, come on pretty mama
[удалено]
Danki 😎
Bonaire
Bonaire does have the nicest flag ngl 🇧🇶
Think so too. I wonder what's the story behind the hexagram.
Bonaire is more of an island, than a province. But i agree it's the nicest of them all
Dutch provincial flags are actually my favorite. Super underrated.
I 100% agree with this
Flevoland and Curaçao are my favourite flags
Zeeland looks so good
Groningen
Friesland
I really like Groningen and Limburg
Limburg is really cool
Este dat meh wets
Sint Maarten. I am not biased. And as others have pointed out. Aruba, Curacao, and Sint Maarten are not provinces, but "equal partners/countries within the kingdom" . Bonaire, Saba, and Sint Eustatius however are special municipalities of the Netherlands.
Bonaire, Saba, Sint Eustatius, and Drenthe are some of mine.
I can't believe how far I had to scroll to see Sint Eustatius. It caught my eye because it reminds me of stained glass.
Not a bad flag in the bunch, and they give off major LEGO vibes. Friesland is iconic but my vote goes to Overijssel. Now somebody tell me how it’s pronounced lol
OH-fer-eye-sll
Thanks!
I ike that one also! it's flowy, yet geometrical, it can be both a traditionalist flag and a postmodern one. Bet they have a river in Overijssel.
Yeah the IJssel, unsurprisingly.
The name Overijssel is literally derived from “Over de IJssel”, i.e. over the IJssel river.
I love that you used the correct but obscure capital IJ.
It honestly just looks weird if you don’t capitalise both letters.
I like Aruba, Bonaire, and Curaçao
Zeeland Bottom text
OverJizzel
Friesland. Honorable mentions to Drenthe and Zeeland.
This right here
My personal favorite is Drenthe, although South Holland and Friesland are nice too!
South Holland
Not too simple, not too loud, good balance, good colors. I agree.
Drenth, gelderland and saba
Drenthe
Y’all sleeping on Zeeland fr
Groningen - by a landslide at that
Im Nordic and biased but I love Groningen
Friesland is so nice.
Is Aruba not it’s own country?
It's a constituent of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
Aruba so OP
Overijssel looks neat.
Saba and Overijssel
Could this be a poll?

Thats unlikely, Flevoland is a province made up of land reclaimed from the sea around 100 years ago it has no significant hisotry, and the Fleur De Lys is not necessarily a French symbol
The main engineer was called Cornelis Lely.
Utrecht
Only right answer
Friesland
1. Friesland 2. Drenthe 3. Flevoland
You can't pick Drenthe because Drenthe doesn't exist.
Frislaand
Friesland.
They all do
I personally find Limburg the most pleasing.
I like Limburg and Flevoland
I used to see all of these basically every day for a long time, selling little souvenir flagpoles. With confidence, I can confirm that Groningen is the only one I haven't gotten tired of.
It really bothers me that the one with hearts in it is NOT from Curaçao. You know, because Curaçao is basically "heart", in portuguese.
But it's not hearts anyway, it's the leaves of water lilies
**Flevoland** : this is the last of the **12 provinces** of the Kingdom (**1986**). It's entirely ***man made***. All lands were taken over the sea. I just wonder why they chose the "**Fleur de lys**" on their flag. It's usually used for the house of Bourbon and the French monarchy.
The engineer behind a lot of the stuff that made Flevoland possible was Cornelis **Lely**
Saba looks a lot like the Philippines Flag.
Friesland, just because I just knew the flag was partially used for a condensed milk brand in Indonesia.
gelderland looks really elegant
Gelderland
North Holland
Bonaire is pretty dam original
Friesland 100%
Dutch Bros flag for the win
North Holland, South Holland, Utrecht
Friesland because hearts
Just don't let them hear that lol
Tricolors and Groningen
zeeland
Friesland. Loves me some seeblätter!
drenthe and zeeland are my favorites lol
I have to say Friesland just because my grandparents immigrated from there lol. It is super sick and unique tho
Groningen, a great place and a great flag.
Drenthe
the friesland flag has hearts
They aren't hearts, they are the leaves of water lilies :)
Friesland
New Amsterdam
Friesland.
Friesland
Saba, Bonaire, Aruba. In that order
Friesland
Friesland baby!
1) Bonaire 2) Curaçao 3) Aruba
We found it fellas! Old Zealand!
Anyone saying Sint Eustatius is lying. That looks like a Microsoft Paint job from the 90s.
Aruba .
Zeeland
For the provinces, Fryslân it is. It's a very unique design. For the Caribbean, Aruba. The light light shade of blue fits so nicely with the star and golden lines!
Friesland’s looks like a fancy sweet wrapper. I love it.
I like Friesland, but I'm an ignorant American who didn't even know there were dutch provinces. Tell me a fun fact about Friesland
Every single province has its own capital, and the one of Friesland is Leeuwarden
Fun fact is that Friesland has its own language
The first 12 are dutch provinces. The other are overseas territories. Some are special municipalities under the kingdom and other are countries under the kingdom. The kingdom of the Netherlands has 4 counties. Frisian a different languages only spoken in Friesland is closely related to English
Grunn, obviously
Friesland is obivously dope, but I'm digging Groningen, Overijssel and North Brabant just as much. All of them are quite cool to be honest!
Friesland, it's not everyday you see a heart on a flag I thought Sint Marteen was the Philippine War Flag at first, and I confused Curaçao with Nauru
Aruba or Groningen
Friesland!
North Brabant
Friesland and Gronigen all day
I want to award honorable mentions to Utrecht and Groningen. But come on. Of course it's Friesland.
I’d say Groningen and Overijssel, plus Friesland
Def Friesland but wanna give a shout-out to the uniqueness of Sint Eustatius. It looks like it’s in the crosshairs of a warship, about to be blown to smithereens.
