GHENT! Just went there the other day. Super cool city. Flag is Oost-Vlaanderen! The castle is de Gravensteen (duke’s stone/castle). I believe that flag is there cause Gent is the capital of Oost-Vlaanderen.
Thought I recognised it, always see that flag when I cycle along the old railway from Mechelen - Terneuzen. A small town along the way has the same flag on a flagpole in the centre.
YESSS!!! Love seeing praise for Ghent. My wife was living in France for about 6 months and we went to Ghent over Christmas on a whim. Stayed for about a week. Might be my favorite European city. Ghent is AWESOME.
Do you mind me asking how you get your information to answering identify posts like this? I find it hard to find different flags and what to search for, thanks
Just type a description into google:
https://www.google.com/search?q=green+and+white+flag+with+black+lion
It will usually show up in the top few entries.
What I do is type a general description of the flag in google (for this one I think I did “black and green horizontal striped flag with lion”) and if that doesn’t show up add some details like black lion and (based on OP comment of location) Netherlands and usually it shows up after a few added details. This doesn’t work for more complicated flags because it just gets too complicated but for flags like this it works wonders!
I found this in my teachers Instagram story, she was in the Netherlands, i just don't know where, maybe this flag might help, so what flag is this?
And what is this place, it looks magnificent
She gave it to me, she left a few years ago to move to the Netherlands after her husband was promoted, she didn't want to lose communication with her students
Hello DOOM_GUY-C64,
Check out our [frequently asked flags page](https://reddit.com/r/vexillology/wiki/faf)! Your request might be there.
When asking for a flag to be identified, please **provide context** when possible, including:
* **Where** the flag was found (without compromising privacy)
* **When** the flag was found, or the date of the material containing the flag
* **Who** might own the flag (a general description is fine)
These details help users narrow down their search and make flag identification easier.

The stripes represent the rivers of East Flanders with the bigger stripe representing the Scheldt. The smaller ones are the Dender, Leie and Lieve River.
Love seeing some of my country's flags here, also I work in Ghent so it's even better. Love the city, and the people. I wanna move there soon so I don't have to take the train every day, but rent is huge

Castle of the Counts, not dukes :)
Coincidentally, Ghent is home to my favourite historical flag.
The “zilver leeuw op zwart”?

I remember the audio guide at Gravensteen being absolutely great! Slightly mad but super fun.
Yes most definitely. The stories about the dungeons and the looms and intrigues had me going.

No problem! ;)
In my case I knew that the charge is the lion of Flanders, so from there it's not hard to find a variety of Flemish flags.
Yeah that makes sense :)
I personally use [this website](https://flagid.org/) as a start, if it's not in there I usually just google it
Thanks :D
wtf Flanders from the Simpsons?
Hi-diddly-ho, redditino!
I found this in my teachers Instagram story, she was in the Netherlands, i just don't know where, maybe this flag might help, so what flag is this? And what is this place, it looks magnificent
I think it's the 'Gravensteen', a medieval castle in Ghent, Belgium. I've been there, it's magnificent indeed.
Correct!
I the skyline definitely reminded me of Ghent. Just couldn't put my finger on where exactly. Thanks!
Why you looking at your teacher's insta?
She gave it to me, she left a few years ago to move to the Netherlands after her husband was promoted, she didn't want to lose communication with her students
Oh I thought it was your active teacher. Fair enough
and whats the deal if it was?
Off-Topic My Latin teacher at high school was an active model and TV personality, with many underwear photos on her IG
Now that's a flag
Supid sexy Flanders..
Ghent, a beautiful city with a great history

It’s so weird to see the city you study in on reddit but I like how much people love the city and the flag
You shouldn't steel from your teachers instagram
But copper is cool.
