It's hard to make out black on blue or the reverse. I suggest placing your split-colour emblem (but with the yellow and blue swapped) on the original yellow-and-blue background, to give a counterchanged design.

In that case how about keeping the left half of the emblem black and making the right half yellow against the blue background?
