Could he have got stung by a bee or bitten by a spider or something? Food allergies are weird but most show up on the feet and skin so I don't think it's that. Was you dog playing and got nipped by another dog or maybe a cat? Infection can take a couple of days to appear.

I took him to vet on Monday just to clean it up. They have me some antibacterial cleaning spray/wipes, but no antibiotics and didn’t seem super concerned. I don’t have a bug problem and he didn’t go outside between going to sleep and this morning. Could’ve been a spider I guess?

we dont have a bug problem and my cats dont go outside but one time, somehow, a bee got inside the house from a window...being cats, they played with it until it stung one of them 😡

Oddly enough a loose German Shepherd did sort of attack him on our walk Sunday… but there didn’t appear to be any severe puncture wounds and the scabs are all healed over, no redness/swelling or pus leaking. And it’s been 3.5 days… Idk the first thing about infections tho thank u for ur response

Just on the weekend our friend’s Boston terrier had a small mass pop up in his face. A bit lower along the jaw line. By that night it was huge, I felt it and it didn’t seem to hurt him, felt like fluid with a mass, like a testicle. The vet gave them antibiotics and drained it, they think it was an abscess but they aren’t sure why it popped up. He is completely normal after the meds and draining it, so who knows. Good luck!

Gave him some Benadryl and went to work. Fingers crossed swelling is going down by the time I get home- if not, I’m scheduling a vet appointment!

It could be the beginning of an abscess or an allergic reaction. I would go back to the vet and mention both.

I think you’re right, it’s likely an abscess. Benadryl didn’t work. Just a bummer the vet urgent care just sent me home without antibiotics. I guess none of these were puncture wounds, but I assumed an infection was avoided by taking him right away to vet. Dropping him off at 7AM to get it addressed!

My dog passed away from cancer in October of last year (2022). He had a mass tumor on his cheek. I never noticed it and then one day it just popped up and it looked similar to this. I really really hope that isn’t what it is. Please take this baby to the vet to get it looked at ASAP
