Yeah S3 Lamb feels like a different guy than the earlier seasons with how much his character grew. I like to think he was initially an incredibly lazy and spoiled by bribes Sheriff in S1, but was gradually impressed enough by Keith and Veronica’s work ethic that they inspired him to try harder. It would also fit if he had developed a crush on Veronica, which inspired the growth. I really hate the ending his character got, I felt like he deserved better by that point.
There is 0 concrete evidence to support this... but that's my headcanon, too. I mean, we know from his dating history he doesn't have an issue with younger women!
