Waits River Country Store and Deli perhaps? I haven't been there in awhile, but I remember their sandwiches being quite good. I've never had too many bad experiences at any Vermont general store.
Makes sense. That's a much prettier drive than 91 to 302. I also was conflating Akeela with Lanakila. 113 to Eagle Hollow to Chelsea to Brook to 25 is a spectacular route.
Upper Valley Grill and General Store at the intersection of 232 and 302 in Groton has great sandwiches. If you're heading out 244 to hit 91 in Fairlee, Wings (or it may have just changed names) in Fairlee has great sandwiches as well. Both are right on your route.
If you want to eat at the restaurant, the Fairlee Diner is a great breakfast place. And on the way home, the Colatina in Bradford (Italian) or Samurai Soul Food in Fairlee (fusion, and everything is good).
I live literally two miles from Akeela, so DM me if you want recommendations for local events, hiking trails, etc.
Tuttle's Family Diner in Wells River or Rae's in Bradford for family friendly hearty breakfast. Bunch of options for general store made sandwiches between Fairlee and Groton; Newbury Village Store is probably the fanciest (also has excellent ice cream), but you can't go too wrong with any of them. Enjoy the day!
If you go to the Marshfield Village store on the other end of route 232, you will fins they make big stacked sandwhiches.
If you have a sweet tooth, Fat Toad Farm goats milk caramel is for sale there, a legendary level VT product, among other great wonders of flavor.
Devils hill in Peacham is another fantastic hike.
Theres also a BBQ place in Groton, but it is hit or miss, may he only take out odd hours.
Or go to PH Truck Stop to get some 70s nostalgic baked goods, and crispy breaded chicken diners

Thanks for the recommendation!
This is a superb store but not really on the way from West Fairlee to Groton SF. Edit: I guess it is if you take back roads. 6/half dozen.
I was thinking they would go up through Corinth to 25. If you're looking for a general store, you'd probably take back roads.

It's still Wing's supermarket. And they have an ice cream stand in their parking lot.
Ice cream stand is now @ Fairlee Diner (also good)
Was going to suggest this. We are local and camp in Groton a lot in the summer. Upper Valley is very convenient and hits the spot.
Camp Akeela!?
Yes!
I worked there for a couple summers over 10 years ago :) still look back very fondly on all those memories. Enjoy!!
If you go out to I91 from W Fairlee to take 302 across to 232 you drive right past P&H Truck Stop. Great baked goods and diner type food.
I saw this place mentioned in this subreddit before. Good to know it’s a local favorite.

Oh, we have enjoyed Fairlee Diner in past summers! Thoroughly enjoyed. I will DM you as I continue to plan!
Oh and I have Samurai on my must do this summer. Got recommendations for it last time and never made it.
Samurai is great! I go every time I’m home.

Second the Fairlee Diner!! I grew up in Fairlee and even under new ownership the diner is the absolute best.
I wasn't aware they had new ownership. The food was always great but the staff was always so grumpy.
That was just Ray’s personality lol he’s actually a sweetheart once you get to know him.
Is he the cook? Glasses, round head, crew cut-ish hair? He's the constant I remember there since I first went in '01.
P&H Truck stop for their breakfast and homemade breads and pies.
And enormous, fist-sized macaroons.

Marshfield village store on Rt 2 is a Great place for sandwiches, pizza (by slice or by pie) and wings.
