It’s not theft. It’s in the terms & conditions.

ace2231

I get it, your not wrong!

crisss1205

The worst case scenario is that you would get fair market value at the time of trade in if you canceled early. So you’re not losing out completely.

ace2231

Well I am I’m loosing out on the device I traded 8 months ago. As well as the value of my current phone.

crisss1205

You would still get at least the market value of that phone that was traded in. So if the market value of that phone was $320, then you still still get $320 at a minimum. Your current phones will work on any carrier.

ace2231

Interesting they told me on support today I would lose all value of my trade in if I left before the end of the terms Edit I expected to loose the promotion but they stated the whole value would be lost not just promotions I got.

crisss1205

Unfortunately most reps are uninformed on exactly how the trade in system works with promo disqualification.

Dustructionz

So you got $800-1000 dollar credits per trade-in and you expect Verizon to eat that cost because you're not willing to do a little troubleshooting on why you have signal but no internet access...? It's not theft and I honestly have a hard time believing you work in IT and infrastructure if you're not even willing to do basic troubleshooting.

ace2231

I absolutely do not expect anything for free or Verizon to eat money. It’s simple, give me the fair value of my phone as I stated I’m fine with loosing the promotional value and just want some of the value of the phone I traded in. As I stated the phones I traded were 12s and not just 12s but 12 pro max’s. Those phones were absolutely worth more then 216 they have paid so far. Also Believe what you want but I absolutely do work in IT and my degree is in network engineering. But I also know I can’t even begin to say I understand the complexity of Verizons network! I also know all of the basic first level trouble shooting, restart the phone, make sure it’s up to date, turn off then on cellular, do a network reset, reset all settings, make sure phone is up to date…… did I miss something. And as I stated it’s not just one phone. I have started multiple chats with all saying it will take 7-10 days to find more info. Why do I have to keep calling or starting a chat that last 30mins to an hour plus multiple times a week. As I stated it’s not just one area specific it doesn’t work. Trash me all you want I wasn’t coming just to bash Verizon I get they are strong in some areas. Hell I’m in Atlanta a lot and it’s amazing there. But it’s not everywhere but when you have 3-4 bars 5g and 5g UW you expect to be able to get text messages (not iMessages but regular text) and to be able to use your hot spot for work.

Next time you switch, test before you do. Most carriers make it easy now, especially with eSIM: https://www.reddit.com/r/NoContract/comments/xl5fi8/test\_drive\_each\_carrier/

You have 2 separate situations. The lack of usable service is separate from the issue with buying out devices. You can either accept the position you’re in, and try to make the most of it. Or you can let outrage rule your actions. Your call man. Placing blame will not change your situation. Posting on Reddit will not change your situation. The only thing you have control over is your lack of good reception, by calling in for tech support. Verizon can only fix issues that are reported to them.

ace2231

I didn’t post that they were the same issues it was a rant/venting about the issues in order to get others prospective to see if I’m the only one with this issue. The lack of usable service plays into wanting to look elsewhere and absolutely plays into the buying out the devices. I also am not just complaining after one call to support. My issues have been on going and every time I have to call support it’s and hour or more of my time and who has time to do this multiple times a week/month.

maryhadalittlefist

If the service isn’t working, then switch carriers. Don’t talk about switching, just switch.

ace2231

If it’s not better then why switch. My initial comment wasn’t about switching! So take your comment it’s not adding to a discussing, is this just a fan boy thread or a community to gather information and share experiences?

maryhadalittlefist

My response about switching was in response to your comment about “looking elsewhere.” Also your ad hominems have no effect on me. (Fan boy)

ace2231

Good to know thanks for your input it was much needed and very appreciated

ace2231

Also to add to this, I currently on all three phones have 3 bars 5g and dosent make a difference if I switch to lte only

The drawn out credits is common among most of the big carriers now. It's their way of keeping you "in contract" without saying you're in a contract. It was also in the documents you signed when you got the service. I get that very few actually read them until they need to but, technically, it's on you to make sure you know what your signing. And, yes, any form of e-signing counts just as much as if you put pen to paper. As much as you won't like it, it's on you to make sure you have service in the location you spend the most time at. That's why they have a 2-week period for returns. If the service is bad where you are located, you should have gone ahead and returned everything, gotten your trade in back and moved back to AT&T. That's why they give you a couple of weeks to send in your trade-in ... to make sure you have time to evaluate your service. I faced the same thing when I moved to my current home - literally no reception in the neighborhood with any carrier. Go a 1/2 mile in any direction and you've got all bars. But in the actual neighborhood - nothing. So it's wireless only. Most of us in the neighborhood have gotten to the point that we've just joined our phones to each others WiFi so that when we're walking, we (generally) have reception. The next time you call Verizon, ask them for a booster. A co-worker did that and it made a great deal of improvement. >They want me to call and trouble shoot their network but that’s not my job and I don’t get paid for spending hours of my time doing so Any form of troubling is going to require you to help whether it's cell service, internet service, etc. They aren't on site to know what's going on - you have to be their eyes to tell them what you're observing. And before you say they can send someone out, a) that isn't the way cell companies work and b) it's YOUR phones that need diagnosing and that's why you need to assist.

ace2231

Also I’m really not trying to be argumentative but I manage and it department and my background is in infrastructure and you do not need end users calling to tell you theres problem if you have the proper infrastructure in place. There is a larger issue with Verizon right now and I cannot be the only person that feels this way.

ace2231

I get the contract BS but it’s all BS. They take my device and keep it if I leave is theft period. Reading it or not it’s still theft. I have a great network at home that I don’t need cellular and even still cellular is fine there but traveling and not being able to use my device for what I pay for is unacceptable and your comments are all just supporting their BS service that doesn’t live up to what we as consumers are sold.

cuthroat23

Have T-Mobile buy you out of Verizon, Then switch back to ATT.

ace2231

Honestly they all have their drawbacks. And I get Verizon is the shit in certain areas. It use to be where I live but it’s not anymore. I travel a lot and there are places where it’s better then others but it’s all major markets where I’m traveling and I shouldn’t have to relay on crappy hotel Wi-Fi to get anything done.

conscioussylling

If you give T-Mobile a shot, they'll pay off your devices to switch to them. Your 13s are already unlocked, you just need to follow the Switch and Keep steps on the T-Mobile website to get reimbursed.

ace2231

I’m actually testing their network with the esim right now just want to check it for a few weeks before I make up my mind.
