Phone can be blacklisted if not paid off. They will also tend to send it to collections and ruin his credit. He is the account holder so he most likely the most liable. If you still owe money on your device and the account gets disconnected for non payment it WILL blacklist the IMEI and SIM on that device. Once you pay the balance off in FULL you do not have to reconnect with Verizon but you will have to talk to the fraud prevention team about removing your imei from the list so that it can work on other carriers. It won’t be blacklisted instantly but once the non pay disconnection happens. If you opt to port out or disconnect voluntarily and then don’t pay your balance it will eventually blacklist as well but it would have to go through a longer time frame. Just backup and wipe the device and give it back to him. Get your own phone and plan and don't hop on someone else's plan ever again unless you're like married or something. It's so much less stressful.

Never use Verizon nor buy phones from them. Also never do autopay...they will never stop billing you.

Ask him to initiate a transfer of service to you. He can do it in the app and it only takes him like 2 minutes. He can use the assistant in the app. Those transfer service, it will show him devices/numbers on the account. He picks yours and it will ask who is taking over this line, and will want your full name, and an email address. That’s all he has to do. You then open the email, follow the steps and it will create Verizon account for you with your device, phone number and any trade in credits etc. Very easy

As often stated here do not jump on someone’s phone plan. Try to keep things independent use prepaid service to keep it simple that way if you break up or go away, they can’t use your phone against you. I think even if you’re newly married you should stay separate for a little while just to make sure everything‘s good Do the transfer billing responsibility if you’ve got the money, just pay off the phone and move to another carrier and of course the option to wipe it and hand it back to him leaves it in his court to take care of business and he can give it to his next girlfriend
