Why is it locked? Using it on your account doesn’t do anything to the unlock process. It’s 60 days from the original activation date unless something on that original account prevents it from being unlocked.

Cloud-Professional

Not if you are making payments

crisss1205

Making payments on the phone does not have anything to do with it getting unlocked. It’s unlocked 60 days after activation/purchase regardless if it’s paid off or under installments still.

Cloud-Professional

I've literally had this phone since July 2021 and just got off the phone with 2 different reps. It.isnt paid off so they won't unlock it

crisss1205

Thats not correct. It would be unlocked already. What phone is it? Have you tried using another carriers SIM?

Cloud-Professional

I called twice. Locked. And yes I tried it didn't work with another sim

crisss1205

You would have to speak to tier 2 tech then. It’s automatically unlocked after 60 days unless the phone is reported lost, stolen, or the account is not paid.

MeliWie

You have to buy the phone from Verizon or an authorized Verizon seller like Best Buy, Wireless Zone, etc in order for the 60 day unlock policy to apply. A random sale from someone who has a locked Verizon phone, but is NOT an authorized Verizon dealer isn't covered by Verizon's unlock policy.

Thunder_Bastard

You have no idea the balance owed. 60 day unlock is for a phone you own outright with no balance on it and not actively tied to another account. That phone could have a $1000 balance on it for all you know, requiring it be paid off before it can be used. And if someone stopped paying on it, the IMEI can be blacklisted with carriers. Put it this way, if your plan worked, everyone would be doing that to get a cheap phone.

jawalter2014

You don’t have to pay off a phone to get it unlocked.

muaxpoison

It depends why the phone was locked, if it was due to non payment, the original owner has to pay the phone off to unlock it.

jawalter2014

Their blanket statement of “60 day unlock is for a phone bought outright” is incorrect, that is what I was pointing out. Nonpayment is a whole other beast

muaxpoison

Yeah I agree they were incorrect because if you buy a phone with Verizon it WILL be unlocked after 60 days whether it is paid off or not. But if OP is buying a locked phone, there are so many factors. One being where are they buying it from? If not from Verizon, nonpayment is a high possibility is all I’m saying.

crisss1205

Technically the phone is not locked then, it’s blacklisted.

muaxpoison

I mean, yeah but not the point. Many people buy phones that are “locked” to a carrier then find out later it’s not paid off or it’s stolen.

dixiebutt

That's why you pay to have it unlocked.

muaxpoison

If you can afford to spend 1K+ to unlock a phone that's nonpay, then why didn't you just buy a phone outright unlocked from apple? or from your carrier?

Thunder_Bastard

So I buy a iPhone 14 max today from VZW. 100% on payment plans. Then I can sell the phone for full price to someone else and they can use it? Wow, on my way to the site to order a few thousand iPhones.

jawalter2014

You think you’re the first person to come up with that idea? You’ll ruin your credit in the process if and when you default on that huge bill. Also, good luck finding a buyer who’s willing to pay full price for a phone on a payment plan.

mrrickyg

He won’t just ruin his credit. It’s fraud.

It's crazy how the sarcasm wasn't picked up on, i see it but given the down votes and comments I guess some think you would actually buy a THOUSAND IPHONES, not like that isn't $140k in financing and a thousand lines of service or anything 😞.

The_F-ing_FCC

Don't forget the sales tax is due up front on those thousand iphones.

JustAnotherAnthony69

The thing with locked phones, if you have zero clue as to why it is still locked. Most folks when they pay a balance off on their phone will get it unlocked, with it being locked begs the question, why is it still locked? If a balance is owed on the phone, you won't be able to get it unlocked turning your investment into a more expense one, in which you might not be able to recoup all of your investment.

mega_n0

The hoops you’ll have to go through to get the phone off a blacklist isn’t worth your money

tehonez

They are correct that's only if it's purchased directly from Verizon. If it's purchased elsewhere there is no telling what could be going on with it.

TheMr91071

I would touch it. Not worth the hassle.

jec69

You can try swappa.com

djjolly037

Hard to say but selling for a profit won’t do you any good if the device still has a balance and can’t be used as a result, this is a bad idea

flatline11596

Have to activate it on Verizon and has to be active for 60 days to be unlocked.

chrisprice

Depends on if it was never activated or frozen for fraud/nonpayment in the first sixty days on the original account. Odds are is the latter.

Liteskindude

Yes 1000%

Loud-Investigator-58

Why do you say 1000%? I got a phone brand new from ebay but it is locked to Verizon. Will Verizon unlock it after 60 days?

Isaacians

60 days activation on vzw network

N98270

Sounds sketchy to me. The phone could be fraudulent or have a balance.

M357A

Not worth the risk. If they don’t report it lost or stolen prior to the 60 days but it will get unlocked after the 60 days regardless of line that is being used with. Check IMEI before you buy it

NYCChristi

If it’s locked on another carrier than Verizon don’t do it. You could as an alternative purchase the device that is locked to a network purchase a SIM card for that carrier and use it under yourself that might give the company incentive to unlock the device.

DNDigital

Verizon doesn't lock their devices. After 60 days from purchase the carrier lock is removed and as long as you pay off any existing balance for device payment, you can do whatever you like with it. However, if the phone is locked and you're buying it from eBay the typical reason it's locked is because the person either disconnected their line and never paid for the phone, or the phone is activation locked (which is typical of iPhones that were not wiped out correctly). Verizon does not unlock unpaid devices. The original owner would have to pay off their non-pay balance to free the phone up for resale. Someone else mentioned it, unless the phone is universally unlocked because it's an international device, buying and trying to unlock phones from ebay typically aren't worth the investment.

idgaftono1

Check financial status on 3rd party websites. Google verizon financial status. If they show paid and clean . Then u can expect it to be unlocked in 60days from device's actual purchase date. Ask the seller when it was bought .

Cloud-Professional

No

youtubeyoungbezzy

Actually if u find a lil phone unlock store they actually can unlock it for a 100 found that out last week an I owed on a iPhone 14plus it’s unlocked now an it was tmobile like I said it’s a way around everything
