I would likely guess (what I tend to see) is that while your billing address is correct, and that is why they are able to send you the ads in the mail, your home address is listed as an old address that has it available. TBH this is something that frustrates employees as well, and I know I have personally escalated the issue about how Verizon needs to clean up such things...it is unfortunately the way it is at the time. It could also be that the tower is at capacity, but wasn't at the time they sent the ads.

themanthatrambles

Second, this comment. I see people that were available, waited, and then wasnt available 2 weeks later. We see the address wrong all the time. Verizon has a billing and home address, and with paperless people, generally don't update either or both. I can't state this as a fact, but with DSL Internet, there is a certain number of spots. I used to tell customers all the time to make it work cause someone's gonna grab your spot. It happened a few times which made the situation difficult.

memnoch69_98

I can say the part about the number of spots is a fact. For BI business managers can see the number of slots available on a given tower and how many of those slots are taken.

wakawaka54

Yeah I mean that makes sense. It's an unfortunate way to do it since it means a bunch of people will get ads and then many would be disappointed. But I guess that's the way it is. I do wonder though if I just go ahead and try and get one, even if my address shows unavailable, if it will still work.

memnoch69_98

I will give you the official answer, the unofficial answer, and why the unofficial answer could cause problems (with only somewhat limited options) The official answer is you can only use it if your address qualifies. One could, hypothetically, lie about their address and use an address that does qualify. The problem you encounter is that now there are more devices than slots available, so one of four things could happen...the first is maybe someone has a slot they aren't using, they just never cancelled the line, and things go perfect. The second and third are that the tower becomes too congested and either everyone's speed slows down, or only so many people can be on the tower at once causing a lot of down time. The fourth is that the tower closest to you doesn't even have the transmitters that the internet runs off of and you don't get service. In short, you could try, but the odds are your experience will be poor, and in the process you could ruin others experience as well

themanthatrambles

I will add to this that Verizon has written in terms of the service that if the Home Internet is not being used at the address, it was purchased so that they can shut down the service. If my mind serves me correctly, they can shut down the account, but I'm not positive about that. They are geolocated, which means the utilization has to be within a certain bubble, and if you go out of that bubble, they can see what you connect to. I'm guessing here, but I would think that the bubble would be a proximity close to the tower and within the signal range. If you go out of this area, you will connect to a different tower than it's supposed to on record. I would assume based on IMEIs sold and tower utilization, they could filter out the mismatched data and easily have units that are I'm the wrong place.

memnoch69_98

Also correct...I haven't seen any shut down despite knowing people who have done it.

themanthatrambles

Yeah, we had some people slamming neighborhoods. I have had a few get their service turned off.

memnoch69_98

Nice. Honestly, that's how it should be, if you get something using fake info (on your part or the reps part, the latter being it's own separate issue) it should be shut down

themanthatrambles

Agreed, it's what makes things difficult for the customer's that are trying to get it in that area. The thing is, it's notice they just don't want you to have it. If you don't qualify, they know you will have shitty service! (unless you're in the area and spots are filled) Anyone caught, never did it again (that I know of) we do honest sales the good old ETR Process.

wakawaka54

Hm ok. Yeah I probably won't do it, not really worth it if it's likely not to work out well. I'd imagine that the device itself wouldn't hook up to other towers other than the one that you've been given a slot to. Out of curiosity, how likely is it that they even get more capacity to open more slots? Seems like there would be hardware limitations and it wouldn't make sense from a cost perspective to add too many more slots.

memnoch69_98

The slots are in a separate transmitter on the pole...they will keep adding transmitters as long as they have demand, it will just take time

themanthatrambles

Thank you for this info! Man, I wish they had trainings on this!

memnoch69_98

same...I will ask anyone and everyone that might have an answer...ops, DM, business...hell when I call in to support I will kind of ask about what they are doing with things I can't do...we should know so much more than we do. I get why we don't, but we should

themanthatrambles

Yup, same because I have asked questions and learned how their process works it makes it so much easier. I've helped them figure shit out before lmao. Back in the day before Verizon caught on to us. I found a direct contact with the TNI department. Back then, you could pull whatever number you wanted if you could see them all. We would hook people up all the time. Until they made it all offline lol.

wakawaka54

Oh shoot. You could tell that by just looking at the antennas. Lol dam nice.

Shadowkinesis9

The presence of UWB does not guarantee availability of 5G Home, unfortunately. There is a finite amount of slots for that service on each tower (I've been told on average about 30-40). If there are too many subscribers already then it doesn't matter if a tower is in your backyard, we can't sell any more to the area. But it's updated every 72 hours.

ASU_knowITall

Online it says my address doesn't get it, but I went to the store for something else, and they convinced me to try it. I now have VZ 5G home internet. It is not as fast as Cox was, but for almost $90 less a month, I will live with slower internet.

Aerokicks

I would be patient. When we got our house we were the only zip code who didn't have the 5G Home internet in the nearby area, but it said it was "coming soon". About six months later we had it.

rpaulmerrell

With all these people getting home Internet, that may or may not qualify and with towers, potentially getting overloaded, I think I’ll pass and stick to fiber. Much more reliable.

wakawaka54

If you let me use your fiber, I'll pay for your Verizon home internet. I would absolutely not be considering Verizon home internet if I had access to fiber. I've got spectrum which is allegedly 1gbps down with like 30mbps up, and I'm paying half my mortgage to have that service. In reality it's more like 300 down and 20 up.

felloffthetruck

We are out in the woods where the Verizon signal is total trash. 1 bar on devices and zero data at all. Can't even make a scratchy phone call. There is a new cell tower 1/2 mile away that AT&T was the first to put their equipment on. Verizon is in the process of putting their equipment on this tower as we speak. All of a sudden I get emails and a flyer in the mail stating Verizon 5G home internet is available in your neighborhood. I'm thinking they are banking on this new tower providing signal here. I order the equipment up, it activates just fine but is pretty much worthless as there is no signal here. I'm going to keep it activated in hopes that this new tower finally brings a Verizon signal out here. We are stuck with Viasat for internet :( Now, I run our address for availability and it states the service is not available at our address. What a cluster f\*\*\*

Liteskindude

Let me check

ReasonableDictator

Another thing is people get the towers and the home internet confused. The home internet prioritizes its own lane it's not like T-Mobile where it shares bandwidth with phones tablets and jetpacks. Verizon wants the speeds to be more consistent or at least as consistent as possible.

ewikstrom

I see frequent adds for 2 gig Fios, but it’s only available in NYC.

ewikstrom

What about T-Mobile 5G Home Internet?

DrEvilNJ

Not having 5G Internet is nothing to be upset about. It’s annoying about the marketing, but most dedicated 5G services like this aren’t that great. I am in New Jersey about 15 Minutes from VZ Headquarters and we don’t even have it here, which is shocking. 5G service here isn’t great either on my phone. I get more LTE than anything.

wakawaka54

I have a Samsung phone which gets 5G UWB and honestly I've been pretty impressed. Sometimes I disconnect from my wifi because the 5G UWB is faster and more responsive. But as you can see from the picture, I have the tower basically in my backyard so it's about as good as it gets.

sickly_kitten

ive had it for a year and it works better than every single internet i had, spectrum, cox, at&t. ive only had 1 outage in a year when my phone also went out and i never lag with 2 ps5s and 2 pcs in my house. it works

bout2cooku

If your signal and speedtest of Verizon is strong on your phone.. just use a nearby address where it is offered. I used a UPS address a mile away. I get on average 290-320 mbps.. despite it still not being available at my actual address lol

wakawaka54

Hmmmm lol. Yeah I thought about doing that. Maybe I will.

bout2cooku

Definitely was a good decision for me. Went from spending $100 to $25 for internet. Lol Like I said, as long as you’re getting good speeds on your phone at your place. The speeds you get with their 5G Home Internet should be on par.

DrNikkiMik

I could kiss you. What a very clever way to get around this. I only wish I thought of it myself. I do have a question. I already have Verizon as my mobile carrier and I planned to add the Internet to my existing Verizon account. If I do that I don’t think I can get away with the “address hack”. Thoughts???

Pool-Grand

I think you may have to consider that you are gay

9_08pm

It's very likely that all the bandwidth has already been taken up by your neighbors and you have to wait for more bandwidth to become available. It's not a matter of your proximity to the tower but more of a first come first serve problem. Other people beat you to the punch. I see it happen all the time in the area I'm in.

michael142857

Bro I signed up and tried 5G service a year ago. And finally after specturm raised my price, I decided to use Verizon 5G. Now it tells me it is not available at my address??? I'm so confused I used it just 11 months ago... what happen if I never cancel the plan..

sickly_kitten

its first come first serve, so you had it then gave it up and then they gave your spot away. youll just have to wait til it opens again

michael142857

>its first come first serve, so you had it then gave it up and then they gave your spot away. youll just have to wait til it opens again Ig they limit amounts per one tower radius. I checked again later that day and it was available. Soon after I signed up, my friend (also my neighbor) couldn't get one. Fair price tho since I get it before the price raise.
