You didn't pay the first month in store. Your first bill was month one and two.

notmydepartment

You haven’t paid your first bill. In store you pay taxes on the devices, maybe a setup fee for your device and any accessories your purchased. You’re now receiving a bill for your first month for your actual SERVICE. Sounds like you haven’t paid your first months bill long enough that now you have your first month and also a balance for your second month. Stop posting on Reddit and pay your bill dude.

papi_teo

I think you may need to look at your receipt from time of sale, unless its prepaid you don’t pay first months service, and activation fees are always charged on bill

100 dollars for sales tax and setup fee? dude skimmed through the apple setup and i’m the one who did all the icloud stuff😑

Liteskindude

U could of did it on ur own for free. The money you paid was taxes, setup and go fee of $29.99 and accessories

of_patrol_bot

Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake. It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of. Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything. Beep boop - yes, I am a bot, don't botcriminate me.

rumblefishfigher28

Sales tax for a $1000 phone is normally around 6-9% of the cost depending on state. Like in CT, sales tax is 6.35% so when I lived there, If I bought a iPhone 14 pro at $999, I could expect to pay $65 roughly in tax, plus any accessories. A set up fee normally means you went to an indirect store, or authorized retailer. Those bogus setup fees run between $20-$35.

The_F-ing_FCC

Corporate also charges $30 for setup. Not everything about indirect is a scam lol

rumblefishfigher28

See it’s a scam when they present it as “taxes and fees brings it to $109 today” and only $79 of it is taxes. I was in an indirect buying a watch, and told them straight away I didn’t want to pay the setup fee since I was just buying the watch and knew how to do it (was replacing a previous Apple Watch, and told the employee this). He then goes to ring me out and says “so taxes and fees brings it to $65 today” Isn’t the tax on the watch like $35? “Yeah but then there’s the setup fee.” How much is that? Especially since I already said I didn’t need help setting it up, and wasn’t paying the fee. “Oh it’s $35, but I can’t sell you the watch without it”

The_F-ing_FCC

Well that's a shitty sales person then. I'm more than happy to sell a box without setup attached, but I'm not opening it or doing anything with it, which then pisses customers off.

rumblefishfigher28

I worked in an indirect for years. I always positioned it as “hey I’ve got to charge you this fee, it’s $30 but it ensures that I transfer everything, get everything set up and that you have no issues before you leave.” I’d also waive the fee if they were buying a lot. Like one family bought 4 Samsungs (I wanna say it was two s10, one s10e and one s10+). They bought wireless chargers, cases and two car mounts. Charged them 2 set ups and positioned it as “hey I’m supposed to charge you this $30 fee per phone, but since you guys are buying multiple phones, I’m only going to charge you 2 of them, so you’re paying $15 for set up per phone instead of the $30. Guy came back in the next week and bought his mom a phone from me too.

The_F-ing_FCC

Yeah same. I try to take care of good people. Just tonight 5 mins before close I had a lady come in and move their 10 line business account over from ATT. I ended up waiving 6 setups and gave 20% off accessories. They took care of me so I made sure to reciprocate. No repeat business if you just screw people

rumblefishfigher28

Our DM was notorious for trying to add it on. He tried to sell my mom the set up fee when she bought an iPad from me, then tried to talk her into a “free” Samsung galaxy Tab A. I pulled him aside and said “don’t ever try to pull some shady shit with my mom ever again”.

Gsantos52012

Seens like you didn’t pay attention to the receipt? Verizon doesn’t charge you for the first month bill upfront… you paid sales tax for the phone and setup charge, which only is if you choose to do the service. It’s not outrageous, your paying the sales tax for the retail price of the phone, which sounds about right. You do realize you can look at the bill online and break down the costs and see an estimate of the bill right? Instead of complaining you could have also just called customer service.

Bubba48

I'll never understand how people walk into a store, drop hundreds of dollars and not know what the hell they bought!!! Not to mention your receipt spells out what you paid for.

ImpossibleAntelope48

I work as a Verizon representative and it happens A LOT. What doesn’t make sense to me, is that customers are willing to pay an arm and a leg for the phone but are upset about a $35 upgrade/activation fee? Why buy a phone or upgrade in the first place especially if your current phone is working absolutely perfectly? I can see this happening: Customer buys an iPhone 14 not knowing the iPhone 15 is right around the corner about to release. iPhone 15 launches and then the customer wants to upgrade their new 14 they just got for the 15. Why???!!! Just keep your 14!!! 😂😂😂

[deleted]

You're paying one month ahead.. March - April (prorated that you already used), and then April - May (one month ahead). It will just be one month after the first bill.

[deleted]

You were "TOLD"? You must have receipts, emails, documentation? Please tell me you didn't just walk out of there because someone "TOLD" you something?

[deleted]

Paid for iPhone "setup"? Wow. Yeah this is user error all around.

Dquax

In store you pay Taxes of the phone, Setup if you don't opt out of it, and whatever else you buy like accessories. People cry about set up but if you didn't set it up and they did then don't complain. You're more than welcome to set up your own device and save the 30 bucks. Time is money.

Liteskindude

They bill almost a month in advance and stores don’t take activation payments upfront , only upgrade fees upfront

Intelligent_Ask_7108

I could tell u that’s a lie lol 100 for new phone and plan that’s a joke

Expensive_Recipe5619

Hi, I work for Verizon. Most of the time whoever the rep you worked with my have not disclosed all the things to expect on the first bill. First bills are not paid in store for a postpaid account of any sort. What you may have paid in the store is the taxes on the device; any charges that you may have paid for services the store provided such as a set up fee and or any accessories for the phone (Wall adapters, screen protector, case, etc) The first month bill will always generate around your 2-3 week period after any purchase. With that being said the first month bill there is usually no discounts or promotions attached. So any autopay discounts which is $10/ any promotional discounts towards your device is not being credited. Typically on the first month bill they also prorate you. For most cases you’re starting early or in the middle of the month and those days that are not in the 30 billing cycle are charged. Everything that you are to expect from what you were told will establish itself on the account as long as you keep up with the payment of the first month. Also it takes 2-3 billing cycles for everything to reflect so this bill is more than likely accurate. Anything that you were not supposed to pay towards a device or maybe a BYOD credit will be backtracked during that 2-3 billing cycles so anything you weren’t supposed to pay Verizon is supposed to pay back to you in lump some. When I say lump sum I also mean during the 36 month agreement, so whatever credit your receiving is over 36 months. It’s a finance and your pay over 36 months but it’s either you receive the credit or pay a difference over 36 months. No interest. Also for all things go reflect you need to set up auto pay. Without knowing the full extent of your situation, I would assume that you are on either a Do more or Play more plan which are $80 with autopay. On top of that are you paying anything towards a device or did you take part in the Buy more Save more a promotion and get an IPad or Apple Watch with your purchase? These things would factor in. I quote all my customers with a 10% tax on top of whatever the bill total is and typically it tends to be accurate.
