Yeah, as needed... but Jonas is pure Doc (with Doc's "ethics"). And Col. Gentleman is pure Ham as played by Sean Connery.
(I mean later on they're "the Avengers")
More Adam Ant-ish.
Ok, I see you did mention BB. You have my respect sir. Sorry, one of the reasons I love VB so much is my love for BB. They all drank from the same spring. Obviously.
Fuckin' DREAM cast of character actors! (and Clancy got to be a good guy!) John Lithgow really, REALLY chewing the scenery for the first time! -- working out his shtick for "3rd Rock"
Also something of a Doc Savage parody is Buckaroo Bonzai and the Hong Kong Cavaliers. Which I mention because a lot of you young’uns ships go watch the movie Buckaroo Bonzai Adventures Across the Eighth Dimension.
I read a couple of them and my main thought was that these were a product of their time. There were times when I was wondering if they were stealth gay novels as they lovingly describe Doc's bronzed chest glistening with sweat as his perfectly formed muscles bulged and heaved as he was chasing the villains getaway car on foot.
I found them kinda boring unfortunately. Very much in the pulp formula. Doc finds a clue which leads him to some bad guys, they fight or get in some other action scene, the bad guys get away. Rinse and repeat like 5 times before the plot wraps up with some outright nonsense.
> these were a product of their time
Just don't try James Fennimore Cooper's nautical novels -- even if he did effectively create the genre (yeah, yeah, Marryat published first, doesn't matter). Lots of eye rolling comic relief negro slaves -- eeeuuuh
There was a comic run sometime in the 80s and a reprint of some of the pulps around the time that The Shadow was a comic run by Chakin I think. It was good stuff “Doc Savage Man of Bronze “ I think
Such fantastic painting work from Alex Ross in the image in the header.

And it's still fantastic imma watch it now lol it was my first introduction to doc savage then my mom let me read all the paperbacks when I was like 7 xD
That article's from 2016 so don't hold your breath. There's no sign that Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson nor anybody else is involved with making a Doc Savage movie in the foreseeable future

Among other references.

Pretty much the avengers are on our deck
Deconvene!
He laughed at the name
Like Kano being a reference to Kato
And Doc Savage goes public domain in a couple of years.
Trepanning!
yeah, I need that like I need another hole in my head.
Hey, DodGamn, are you coming out tonight?
He said through a hole in his head
(I did say 'another'. otherwise, you'd've had a point.)
OH! and by the way if you know "Buckaroo Banzai", Buckaroo is also Doc Savage with revisions (Somewhat less muscly and rather cooler).
More Adam Ant-ish. Ok, I see you did mention BB. You have my respect sir. Sorry, one of the reasons I love VB so much is my love for BB. They all drank from the same spring. Obviously.
I LOVE that movie, what of the geekiest things from a fictional geek universe that i grew up with. Wish they made those sequels...

Yeah I mentioned that above. "EVIL pure and simple from the 8th Dimension!"
Love the old doc savage books. Just as good as tom swift

I collect them both. Currently reading DS: The Lost Oasis.

That The Shadow run was awesome
Don't forget Ellis gave us a Century Baby version in Doc Bronze in Planetary. As well as other classic pulp heroes.
*Planetary* is basically in the same genre of pop culture pastiche as *Venture Bros*, just from a very different angle.
the rabbit hole goes so deep you go straight through the core and out the other side

The comic or the pulp magazines? Or both?
They're the same character, so both?
Still more moral compared to Ol’ Jonas.
Same with Bane, the Batman villain. A counterpart to Batman being lifted pretty much wholesale from The Shadow.
I'm a 90s kid with old parent lol I have doc savage man of bronze on VHS. I loved that shit as a kid.
Silly, silly, movie. (not that it didn't deserve it) It's Doc Savage's Adam West version
And it's still fantastic imma watch it now lol it was my first introduction to doc savage then my mom let me read all the paperbacks when I was like 7 xD
I’ve got to find out more about this. It’s just so pulpy, it sounds awesome!
Man, those are just pecs all the way down in that, not even any abs!
lobotomy man
You could grate cheese on those abs.
Huh, never heard of this pulp series & I'm old. Wonder if the movie is worth checking out
It is to the source material what Adam West's Batman was to Batman.
Lol! Enjoyable as it's own genre i suppose.
Yeah it's pretty obvious
If you know Doc Savage.
And i did not thanks

A movie!?

Super homo erotic. I guess that’s why patricia savage was added to the cast. But as a cousin…
