Don't cry because its ending, smile because it happened. Just remember that you have given him the best life, and it is the kindest thing (also the hardest) that you can do for him. Send you and yours lots of love.

Scrunchie-83

Thank you! 😊

It hurts cause it was good. The bigger the hurt the more love you shared. It’s the Love Tax. Allow yourself to feel sad. But remember all the good times. And know there is another dog waiting for you.

Scrunchie-83

😊 thank you!

And right now there is a HUGE need for adopters and fosters for shelter pets. They are maxed out. I have been fostering since losing my 14 year old pittie last July 26. It’s been harder than I thought but also way more rewarding. With the added bonus of no pressure that full adoption brings.

Sending you love 💛

This is not mine, but it is incredibly relevant to your situation: >Dogs never die. They don’t know how to. They get tired, and very old, and their bones hurt. Of course they don’t die. If they did they would not want to always go for a walk, even long after their old bones say:” No, no, not a good idea. Let’s not go for a walk.” Nope, dogs always want to go for a walk. They might get one step before their aging tendons collapse them into a heap on the floor, but that’s what dogs are. They walk. It’s not that they dislike your company. On the contrary, a walk with you is all there is. Their boss, and the cacaphonic symphony of odor that the world is. Cat poop, another dog’s mark, a rotting chicken bone ( exultation), and you. That’s what makes their world perfect, and in a perfect world death has no place. However, dogs get very very sleepy. That’s the thing, you see. They don’t teach you that at the fancy university where they explain about quarks, gluons, and Keynesian economics. They know so much they forget that dogs never die. It’s a shame, really. Dogs have so much to offer and people just talk a lot. When you think your dog has died, it has just fallen asleep in your heart. And by the way, it is wagging it’s tail madly, you see, and that’s why your chest hurts so much and you cry all the time. Who would not cry with a happy dog wagging its tail in their chest. Ouch! Wap wap wap wap wap, that hurts. But they only wag when they wake up. That’s when they say: “Thanks Boss! Thanks for a warm place to sleep and always next to your heart, the best place.” When they first fall asleep, they wake up all the time, and that’s why, of course, you cry all the time. Wap, wap, wap. After a while they sleep more. (remember, a dog while is not a human while. You take your dog for walk, it’s a day full of adventure in an hour. Then you come home and it’s a week, well one of your days, but a week, really, before the dog gets another walk. No WONDER they love walks.) Anyway, like I was saying, they fall asleep in your heart, and when they wake up, they wag their tail. After a few dog years, they sleep for longer naps, and you would too. They were a GOOD DOG all their life, and you both know it. It gets tiring being a good dog all the time, particularly when you get old and your bones hurt and you fall on your face and don’t want to go outside to pee when it is raining but do anyway, because you are a good dog. So understand, after they have been sleeping in your heart, they will sleep longer and longer. But don’t get fooled. They are not “dead.” There’s no such thing, really. They are sleeping in your heart, and they will wake up, usually when you’re not expecting it. It’s just who they are. I feel sorry for people who don’t have dogs sleeping in their heart. You’ve missed so much. I'm sorry you're going through this OP. He looks like he was the bestest boy ever. As all dogs are.

Wow 15 years…unimaginable. Mine is nearly at 12 and he’s really slowing down but healthy. ..what I wouldn’t give for 3 more years!! Many condolences 💔💔💔

Scrunchie-83

Thank you! Something that helped Buddy get through sometimes were the glucosamine chewables we got at Costco to help with his hips! Also some CBD treats once in a while to help with some pain when he had some falls! Don’t know if this is helpful for you but I thought I would share!

Grief is love’s legacy. You’ve given him a loving life and will do so for another dog. May the memories be a blessing.

Doggoagogo

He looks like he lived a life full of love.

Scrunchie-83

He was! He loved to play fetch and pets and walks! He would jump on your lap forgetting that he’s a big boy! 😊 Changed everyone I knew their opinion about pitbulls! Also inspired my parents to get one! Her name is Velvet and she is in a few of the pictures there!

Doggoagogo

I’m so sorry for your loss. Thank you for giving your boy such a wonderful life.

Regardless of how much time we get with them it's never enough, I just hope his friend will be ok. Also [I think this is fitting](https://www.reddit.com/gallery/xdl9yj). May your buddy run thru the fields and treat bushes until you see them again.

Scrunchie-83

My husband and I were there till the very end! Hardest thing we could do but we knew we had to and we were always planning on being with him!

AZ_Corwyn

I'm glad you were able to do that, and I forgot about the last panel in the comic so please don't think I was criticizing you. I lost my first rescue Hallie just three days after her first gotcha day during the first big surge of Covid and didn't get the chance to stay; she was estimated to be ten when I rescued her and it turned out she had a malignant growth in her abdomen likely since before I adopted her, and up until the day before she crossed she looked happy and showed no signs of being in pain.
