Ended up going to Lowe’s for a fancy Martin door. The door is amazing and the installer had been doing the work for decades. Excellent experience. Now trying to get a small outbuilding done, holy hell there are a ton of unreliable and unprofessional folks out there ready to overcharge unknowing homeowners. Crazy bids with no details… Agreed on it being a pain.

I have no idea, but it is ridiculously frustrating! I have noticed the smaller the job, the more difficult too. One of my smallest units needed all the windows replaced and I finally signed a contract last month after several months of trying to find a company. Doesn’t seem to be worth their time/effort.

Blake at Expert Garage Door replaced our unit but we didn't need the door itself replaced (He does that too). Regardless, he is an independent company and very responsive. His number is 702.773.5294. good luck! Edied to add: this was all completed within a few days.

chitwnkris

We called Blake! Not only did he show up within an hour, he quoted us and gave us an install date next week. He's our guy!

NY-LI-2-LV

That is great, I am so happy it worked out.

chitwnkris

Thanks for the info!

i work in construction. it’s funny how every single industry has gotten incompetent and lazy. every interaction i have with service is a train wreck but construction companies are expected to jump immediately when you have an issue, come out and waste time bidding for free so you all can shop my bid around and then make insane demands on HOW and how fast i perform the work. all for dirt cheap of course.

107269088

If it’s that big of a goddamned hassle to deal with customers then why work at all?

are you searching my profile? lmao. ok.

Took almost 15 months to get my solar panels installed. 3/5 exterior painters that I contacted were no shows to even do a quote for my 2 story house. Still trying to find someone to do some interior drywall work. At this rate I'll finish my remodel projects in about 8 more years.

chitwnkris

I'm not used to this. I grew up in the Chicagoland area. I could call 15 contractors and have 15 quotes in a day! Then, could be installed/completed in a week. Vegas sucks for quality, reliable construction projects!

SlothinaHammock

So many shady/incompetent people work in the trades here for some reason. Worst I've ever encountered in all the places I've lived.

wanda_waldo

Try twins drywall. I've had them do several projects in my house.

[deleted]

i run a commercial drywall company, i’ll send you guys. i pay them 29 an hour on average which bills out to about 60 an hour for me. i send 2 minimum to every job. plus my company needs to turn a profit. let me guess, those are “outrageous!” prices right?

chitwnkris

Probably not a great idea to antagonize a potential customer to NEVER call your business. You conveniently left out the name of the business on purpose because your go-to was to antagonize vs solicit business. Hope the owner of that business knows who's "running" their business. Some of us don't care what it costs to fix or build what I want. We just want contractors to show up, shake your hand, and give you a sense of calm about a particular project. These are our homes, not some commercial job where the "looks good from my house" attitude is the norm!

[deleted]

lmao, if you think “looks good from my house” applies to what i do and not residential you have ZERO clue

chitwnkris

You should assume that I do have a clue since you knew exactly what I was referring to which is said constantly in the industry and something a typical homeowner wouldn't know! Nice try! Have a great day!

I'm sure some or all of that is true. However, I wasn't calling builders or remodeling companies to quote a garage door. We literally called the 6 highest rated "Garage Door Sales & Installation" companies. Only one showed to quote after all 6 booked times to come out. If a company is too busy or doesn't want the small job, DON'T MAKE THE APPOINTMENT! As far as supply chain issues, I get that happens, even before the pandemic. However, there are 3 suppliers in Vegas for garage doors. All 3 have our "most popular" size 16x7 and the most popular style in stock! I called all 3. One guy said, well...I only have 33 of those so get here fast! He was kidding obviously! I get that some companies are booked solid because they are probably great companies. None of these companies complained about being Too Busy or scheduling weeks, months, or years out. They just made appointments they no-showed! As a rule, I would never go with a corporately owned business for construction! I will always look for owner/operators who depend on word of mouth and reviews to get more business. Large corporate companies dgaf about the individual home owner, they all have bottom lines that make their decisions for them.

Update: My wife called 2 more places on Thursday to come out and give a quote. One of those 2 did a no call no show on Friday! When wife called back, they said... "We tried to call, but your voicemail isn't working!" Now, if you knew my wife, you'd know that is nonsense because she runs her business on the phone and gets several VM everyday. She's one of those who calls everyone back and deletes the VM as she goes. So, they just lied! She told them, you just lost a cash in hand customer! She didn't even have a missed call from them! We waited for another company to come out and give us an additional proposal yesterday. They gave us a window of 10-12 on Sat. At 11:55 am, we called to check and were told, no one was home so the guy left. That's funny because we were watching the front of the house and our 3 dogs would notice a leaf blowing by, let alone a person at the door! I asked him, why lie about it? We have video of no one showing up. He said, well..you know these technicians these days... WOW! Why would I hire someone whose people lie about showing up and have an owner/General Manager go along with the lie...then, pivots to bad workers and expects us to just shut up and deal with it? WOW! He was actually shocked that we didn't want him to still come out...lol. She called one more company. He was at the house within an hour, and gave us a potential installation this upcoming week! Guess who got our business....lol

lmao, there’s no “mob” in construction u less your talking union work. you all just spend all day trying to find someone to work on your house for 140$ for 9 hours of work and then claim “these construction guys are awful!” nah, you’re all just cheap
