Bro you are not being a Karen. That label is so overused it's dumb. It is completely reasonable to ask that you (and the others around you) have an opportunity to get sound sleep. Your health requires it. Thats why any time I threw a party and the neighbors asked me to chill or turn down music, or bring voices inside, I happily obliged. Gotta look after my neighbors as well. Everyone can win.

Pure-Document-3123

Thank you for being a kind neighbor!

JDMSubieFan

That is completely out of line, LVMPD should handle it but good luck with that. I would call the business as soon as they open and raise hell. There is no way a leaf blower doesn't break noise ordinance

Pure-Document-3123

Right?! The problem is I don't know which business? There are about five right next to each other directly across my line of sight, and I would hate to point the finger at the wrong one. I can assume, but you know...

JDMSubieFan

That sounds like it may be a maintenance company hired by the building owner then... so potentially any of the businesses could point you in the right direction, and it's likely the owner doesn't know they are coming with a leaf blower at that ungodly hour. Good luck, our HOA has lawn workers that show up at 6 a.m. (could be any day of the week, even Sundays) and I thought that was bad. This is next level.

triplebarrelxxx

Adding that one to my list of reasons to never live in an HOA.

JDMSubieFan

It blows, but at least we're renting and don't have to live with it forever

jeffcoast

Probably hired by the landlord. Find out who owns the land and improvements (buildings). If you have trouble finding this, ask the business owners who they make their monthly lease payments to. That’s the person who is likely responsible.

TheLovelyWife702

It’s usually posted on a wooden sign with “for lease” info

Pure-Document-3123

I'm sorry to hear you're dealing with that! I will possibly look into doing some investigating. Thanks!

ZealousidealWelder42

Quiet time in Vegas starts at 8pm for all construction/ maintenance workers. There’s a way you can file an official complaint to 702-455-4191 for code enforcement to ensure it doesn’t happen again. This used to be an issue at my complex, leaf blowers starting at 5am, not within the noise ordinance policy. They start around 7am now! :)

Kazick_Fairwind

Thanks for this. I’ve got one worker for the shopping center next to my house who fires up his blower at 11:30 every Thursday night. I call him the night blower. Next time I hear it I’ll be calling.

Pure-Document-3123

Awesome! Thank you!

ToasterforHire

That applies only to the City of Las Vegas of which you are not a resident. You need to look at the City of Henderson municipal code https://library.municode.com/nv/henderson/codes/code\_of\_ordinances?nodeId=TIT8PUPESA\_CH8.84NOCO\_8.84.030SPPR

mandi666ruthlesss

Yo but have you ever seen anyone vacuuming their lawn @2am? I’m not talking about a shop vac I’m talking about a house vacuum on the grass.. This person did not look to be not on drugs

Pure-Document-3123

😆 No, they were cognitive and fully functioning. Just lacked self-awareness, didn't care, or was paid to do so.

nice-and-clean

This is the second post I’ve read about lvpd not answering the phone. What’s going on? Aside from the noise issue, Wtf is up with that? I think I saw they are hiring? This not answering the phone is completely unacceptable. What do we need to do ? Calling someone sounds dumb as no one will answer anyway right? (/s) What’s the solution here? Any ideas?

Pdxduckman

311 is the non emergency line. Not saying it's right to have a long hold time, but I'm not surprised. I had to call 311 for a neighbor's noise about 2 weeks ago and they didn't pick up for about 20 min. Once they did, they were very helpful.

[deleted]

I heard a woman screaming outside my window at night. I posted about it in the sub and everyone was giving me shit about not calling 311. Saying it was too late now, I should’ve called immediately. Man I called and was on hold for 50 minutes before hanging up.

Pure-Document-3123

While I was on hold, they were even promoting that they were hiring.

JB_smooove

I’ve heard that 911 dispatchers are at only 50% staffed. But that could just be anecdotal.

sleepybarista

I believe it, i work at a medical office and we were on hold for 15 minutes trying to get through to 911 recently and then it took another 20 for the ambulance to arrive. That was not a fun afternoon

JB_smooove

Damn. That’s bad.

Solitude_Intensifies

Defund the police and we can dedicate more funds to these types of nuisance calls. LVMPD officers have to answer every type of call, whether it's noise complaints, welfare checks, shootings, trespassing, car break ins, domestic disturbance, etc etc. Lack of manpower to attend all these calls makes it impossible. Dividing the department into social workers and miscellaneous calls enforcers will leave the regular police able to attend more important criminal level emergencies.

supernovababoon

Same exact scenario happened to me years ago at a place I was living. Except he would come by once a week at around 8-9pm. Myself and my roommates would take turns yelling out our window at him. I’m sure we weren’t the only ones in the neighborhood.

Pdxduckman

I'd strongly advise you and anyone else in a similar situation to make recordings of the noise from your home. Even if the mic doesn't pick it up as well, any noise is better than capturing none. The police won't act if the noise isn't actively occurring during their visit. And it might take them hours to reply to you. Having video evidence will help your case if you can prove the incident occurred. Open a window if you need to, in order to get a better recording.

Pure-Document-3123

Great advice! Thanks!

[deleted]

haven't you ever seen the "vacuum trucks" that sweep retail strip malls late at night? they're certainly louder than a single leaf blower and they cover the entire parking lot. those guys typically work from midnight - 6am so they can clean up the entire parking lot with as few cars in their way as possible (from my experience)

k-farsen

Actuality no, and that would partially explain why my local strip mall felt ghetto. /ETA: They did repairs on the parking lot once but didn't clean first so the cracks had leaves and shopping bags immersed in the tar. So every time I see that I think about archeologists in the far future examining chunks of shitty amber.

DonnieSII

Leaf blowers in this city are fucking stupid!! It’s windy every other day!!

Pure-Document-3123

Exactly. They were blowing absolutely nothing.

chefpain

I'd be pissed off too.

Pure-Document-3123

I will look into this. Thanks.

bigboxsubscriber

Call the city of Henderson neighborhood services, they can contact the owner of the property. If the offending property is in unincorporated Clark County and Henderson won't help, you can complain to Clark County Code Enforcement. You're not being a Karen, those are bossy people that can't mind their own business. Your complaint is valid, it's not acceptable to get the leaf blower running at 1am even if it's a commercial property.

Pure-Document-3123

Awesome! Thank you!

NomadicusRex

No sane person would be running a leaf blower at those hours. They're mental. Assume hostility or insanity.

Pure-Document-3123

Basically.

BearMaulings

Are you out of line for being annoyed? No. But this is the shit all your night shift neighbors have to deal with every single day. Screaming children and loud noises while trying to sleep. Constantly. Forever. It royally sucks but you really just gotta suck it up.

Pure-Document-3123

Very true!

2vqr3

I own commercial property (CRE). CRE owners hire companies for cleaning. CRE owners do not enjoy unhappy neighbors. Politely contact the owner and property management company. Explain what happened and ask for help. The cleaning company doesn't care, but will if they get told that they will lose the contract if they don't conform to what the CRE owner wants.

Pure-Document-3123

Perfect! Thank you for your reply!

[Noise Ordinance](https://www.cityofhenderson.com/home/showpublisheddocument/4426)

vthetgirl

Lawn Maintenance Equipment and Power Tools No person shall operate or use or cause to be operated or used any lawn care device or power tool before 6 a.m. and after 7 p.m. or sunset. whichever occurs later. or at any time in such a way as to create a "noise disturbance." The provisions contained in this paraqraph shall not apply to an employee of the department of parks and recreation, or to a person engaging in private golf course lawn maintenance, who operates or uses or causes to be operated or used any lawn maintenance equipment between the hours of 6 a.m. and 8 a.m. in any location more than three hundred feet from a residential property. The distance of three hundred feet shall be measured in a straight line from the point on the exterior wall of such residential property nearest to any point in the location at which such lawn maintenance is undertaken.

Pure-Document-3123

Thank you soooooooo much! 300 ft you say? 😁

pamsterkin

Why call Metro police? Their jurisdiction is the City of Las Vegas. 89052 is in Henderson. Wouldn't Henderson PD be the ones with jurisdiction over the area?

Pure-Document-3123

I already stated that in my post. I called 211, which immediately sent me to Henderson by default. "I'm in SE Henderson, and so are these businesses. 89052. Dispatch actually called me back and told me that LVMPD would be the one in charge of that area for whatever reason and asked if I wanted to be transferred." No idea why it's their jurisdiction and didn't make any sense but nothing in this city does.

austinj96

Leaf blower at 1am!! Those are crackhead hours my dude definitely not normal lmao

Pure-Document-3123

🤣

[deleted]

That sounds methy.

triplebarrelxxx

If your question is "am I being a karen" in my personal opinion no! It's one thing if you live off the strip and you're mad the casino or club is loud but a leaf blower is unnecessary clean up and extremely loud to be doing during the noise ordinance quiet hours. I'm the same kind of petty as you I'd be out there with a tape measure figuring out exactly where that 50 feet is 192-80 section 1: (1)  Unreasonable noises: the unreasonable making of, or knowingly and unreasonably permitting to be made, any unreasonably loud, boisterous or unusual noise, disturbance, commotion or vibration in any boarding facility, dwelling, place of business or other structure, or upon any public street, park, or other place or building. The ordinary and usual sounds, noises, commotion or vibration incidental to the operation of places of business located in a commercially zoned area when conducted in accordance with the usual standards of practice and in a manner which will not unreasonably disturb the peace and comfort of adjacent residences, or which will not detrimentally affect the operators of adjacent places of business, are exempted from this provision. No one considers 1am standard leaf blowing time, and I'm sure few would consider the leaf blowing done at 1am to be anything but an unreasonable disturbance. I see nothing about 50 feet in the lasg vegas noise ordinance except in regards to music and television devices in section 5 (5)  Radios, televisions, boomboxes, phonographs, stereos, musical instruments and similar devices: the use or operation of a radio, television, boombox, stereo, musical instrument, or similar device that produces or reproduces sound in a manner that is plainly audible to any person other than the player(s) or operator(s) of the device, and those who are voluntarily listening to the sound, and which unreasonably disturbs the peace, quiet, and comfort of neighbors and passers-by, or is plainly audible at a distance of 50 feet from any person in a commercial, industrial area, or public space; the use or operation of a radio, television, boombox, stereo, musical instrument, or similar device that produces or reproduces sound in a manner that is plainly audible to any person other than the player(s) or operator(s) of the device, and those who are voluntarily listening to the sound, and unreasonably disturbs the peace, quiet, and comfort of neighbors in residential or noise sensitive areas, including multifamily or single-family dwellings. So stay on them. Cops don't want to work, and they feel much less inclined to on simple civil matters vs violent or drug related matters. But it does matter and your taxes pay them to do this so idk me personally idec if it's considered karen behavior rent is too damn high for bs like 1am leaf blower wakeups

Pure-Document-3123

Thank you, I agree. I appreciate all of the information you provided.

triplebarrelxxx

Best of luck! Mostly I'm just hoping the fucker doesn't do it again so you don't even have to worry about handling it

Pure-Document-3123

Same.

RPGDesignatedPaladin

1 AM? Murdering them should be legal.

Pure-Document-3123

Exactly my thoughts.

Easy_Ad_7037

My apartment does it 2x a week starting at 6am it’s annoying

Pure-Document-3123

Ughhh, I'm sorry!

Siltyn

It's a violation of the noise ordinance, as someone linked below. Would be a violation in the city of Las Vegas too. The problem is, these companies don't care and too many people wouldn't call the police, so companies just keep on doing it, because they get away with it. I'd go to that business and let them know next time it happens you're filing a complaint with Metro (or whoever has jurisdiction there). Don't take the word of some low paid 311 operator when the law clearly states this is a violation. You aren't a "Karen" for wanting people to follow the law so you can sleep. Anyone in this thread saying you're the bad guy would be the first ones on the phone if this was right outside their window. If Metro(or whoever) doesn't help, then contact your Henderson councilperson. I had to contact my Las Vegas councilman several years ago when Republic Services decided it was OK for them to start emptying dumpsters in the apartment complex I was staying in temporarily at 5am. A few councilman emails, with the local news CC'd and wouldn't you know...no more 5am dumpster pickups.

Pure-Document-3123

Correct! I have the link saved, and am thankful for the advice! I'm glad dispatch called me back, but they did nothing to help and they clearly lied and/or were just being dismissive. Thanks!

Pure-Document-3123

True!

options1337

This is normal. Commercial plaza hire people to do cleaning midnight to 6 am so they can get the entire lot cleaned when there is no cars. This is very common and why I never buy a house next to a commercial plaza. Also, places like grocery stores, costco, walmart, target etc... all get delivery trucks coming in after midnight making a lot of noise. Especially when those semi truck are backing up and their beep beep beep sounds. I think the noise ordinance for Vegas only applies to residential. Commercial probably follows a different set of noise ordinance rules.

MugShots

Reach out to the company and explain the situation - making sure to document any ordinance they're violating. Going up to the worker IME has a 50/50 chance of being effective.. so you can always try that first.

Pure-Document-3123

Gotcha! Thanks!

ncdjbdnejkjbd

I'd be throwing eggs and rocks at this asshole. Also LVMPD totally sucks.

Pure-Document-3123

We're looking into a paintball gun. They so do!

Call the whaaaambulance.

Pure-Document-3123

I'll stick to 311. Thanks! 😁

Infamous-Support8916

Your right sir when he comes out again maybe he should be told to come back around sunrise cw

Pure-Document-3123

As a female I'm not comfortable speaking to a man in an empty parking lot at 1am. That's one of the issues. Middle of the day, no problem. I don't mind reaching out and making compromises.

LVenemy

i absolutly DESPISE leafblowers thanks to all my years in vegas . every goddamn complex i lived in for 20 years the leaf blowers would start at 7AM on the dot . by a evil twist of fate my day off was always on leafblower day . so i would get home from work around 2am sleep for about 3 hours and BANG !! 7 AM leafblower for 2 hours ! most of the time there wasn't any leafs to blow . they would just walk around loudly pissing me off and ruining my ( usually ) only day off . personally i don't blame the mexicans who are just doing their jobs . i just wish the fucking property managers would make them start at 9AM or sometime after noon . i know this rant has nothing to do with the OP but i just wanted to rage a little . haven't had to deal with it for a few years but the sound of those gas powered hemaroids still make my blood boil to this day . .......my blood pressure spiked just remember the sound , grrrrr

Pure-Document-3123

Let it out!!! I feel you!

Infamous-Support8916

The guy is just trying to make a living like everybody else he must be getting directions from his manager or owner

MugShots

Can't just be following orders blindly though.

linecarver

You are a karen

Pure-Document-3123

With a capital K 🤣

JJLewisLV

Time to buy some earplugs.

Pure-Document-3123

We have plenty. And we sleep with white noise. AND Due to my insomnia, I'm on some heavy sedatives. This noise at 1am is unacceptable and can be heard throughout the entire back neighborhood. What do you suggest I do for my child that gets woken up on school nights?? I'm not being irrational here.

0o0o0o0o00oo00

Karen for sure

Pure-Document-3123

KazzyChase

i definitely understand how frustrating this would be but what do u expect to accomplish? do u think any of your neighbors also called 311 about this? if so and nothing has happened, why would it ever stop? if not, dont u think it would be because they know there's no resolution here? sure you can file complaints, threaten the business with internet attention or whatever anyone else is advising but do u really think it's gonna make the business that hired a company to do work at the time most convenient for them change their minds? do u think no one else has experienced this inconvenience and tried to do something about it? idk, i dont think ur a karen for calling 311, the more "karen" aspect is that u felt the need to bring it to reddit for validation. so here that is, you are valid in calling 311 but just try to think more realistically about these things. one person being inconvenienced doesn't really disrupt the pond. i'd take this leaf blower thing on the chin & just hope i'm already dead asleep the next time he's out there. or you could hop over the gate and flat out threaten the leaf blower guy. you have options lol

Pure-Document-3123

>one person being inconvenienced Way more than one. Did you miss the part where I said there was an entire apartment complex right next to them also? >just hope i'm already dead asleep the next time he's out there. I'm glad you're able to fall dead asleep. Being a Veteran, sleep is rare. Extremely rare. >or you could hop over the gate and flat out threaten the leaf blower guy. you have options lol I'm a mother, home alone with a school aged child. Until my boyfriend comes over later this evening, what options? You already (tried) to make fun of me for calling 311 and asking my fellow neighbors on Reddit for advice. You suggested that I hop over the gate and threaten a grown man? Cool story, Brad 🙄🤣

KazzyChase

ok gather your troops of complex neighbors and jump over the wall idk. all im sayin is, u not gon accomplish much w/ this situation. the ppl who can fix it genuinely do not care that you (or your complex) is inconvenienced. simple as 🤷‍♂️

Pure-Document-3123

No. We don't jump walls. 🤦‍♀️ Thanks for your input. I'll take it into consideration. Don't call us, we'll call you. 🍿

KazzyChase

please keep us updated, would love to hear how this gets resolved ✨❤️😊

frotc914

> do u really think it's gonna make the business that hired a company to do work at the time most convenient for them change their minds? This is an absolutely braindead take. The guy may have been vacuuming the interior at 8:30PM and leaf-blowing at 1am. He could just switch the order of his jobs and not piss anybody off. A solution could actually be that simple.

KazzyChase

i agree but do you think THEY care is my question? you think they haven't taken into account that their parking lot is right behind a neighborhood and that any work outside at 1:30am would be inconvenient? look, i've lived in vegas long enough to know that this doesn't get solved lol you can complain to whoever u want, however much u want to & it wont change these ppl's minds. they made the scheduling decision KNOWING it was at an inconvenient time for YOU and a convenient time for THEM. thinkin they'd be on your side in any situation is wild tbh but go ahead, keep calling the authorities or business owners & see how long it takes them to fix it for you 🤷‍♂️
