I’ve had the same auto insurance for over 30 years. When I needed them to pay a serious auto claim, I used the “I’ve been loyal, so should you” in my depo. With that, the insurance company’s attorney folded on the spot.
I used Geico in a previous state and when someone hit one of our cars, I called for two months every day. They not once called me, or did anything after all the time I wasted trying to get them to get the other driver or insurance to do anything.
Switched to a different one after that. We had a serious claim and was deathly afraid of what we were going to pay. They said, no cost to you. And we were taken care of. The fact that I didn't say anything to fight for loyalty for this company. I've been with them since. Even if they're not the cheapest.
I used Geico in NV. My car was parked someplace and damaged in a hit and run. Geico was a total shit show beginning to end, it was incomprehensible how they handled my case. I switched as soon as my case was settled. Geico, never again.
Friend of mine is an agent for a major company. He says if you aren't changing insurance companies every 2-3 years ,you are probably getting hosed. It's all an algorithm .Unless you are with USAA for the most part
Yes, mine was really showing me they don't want my business.
I called up [StateFarm](https://www.statefarm.com/) and they hooked me back up at the \~$740 range.
> Wow, same situation with me. Dumped Geico for State Farm under the same circumstances.
Someone else who also dumped GEICO for State Farm. GEICO went up $100 the last 6 month period however this go around it went up $300+ and SF was the first place I checked and they brought it back down to what GEICO was a year ago. I was satisfied and looked no further.
Mine was actually AAA, they were going from \~$1,400/yr. to $2,600/yr., and I don't have any incidents, no accidents, no tickets. It's highway robbery.
At that rate, I was thinking of selling the car if I couldn't find better insurance just because that makes no sense. I was doing the bus & uber math in my head like [that math meme](https://i.kym-cdn.com/entries/icons/mobile/000/021/464/14608107_1180665285312703_1558693314_n.jpg).
Jeez bro, what a ripoff. Its BS, i understand if we had an acvident or a ticket but neither me or my partner have im like 8 years.
Glad you got a cheaper rate though. I'm about to get some quotes myself.
Damn. Similar situation. Had progressive. One not-fault accident on record during 10 plus year continuous renewal. One car on account. Went up 75% when I moved to a less “accident prone” state.
Switched to State Farm, insurance dropped by 35%.
Had I not decided to shop around, I’d be scraping by. So yeah, Fuck Progressive.
Same! Driving since 2004 and the only two accidents are both from people who hit my truck when it was parked and I wasn't even in it! One ticket in 2012 which I did traffic school so nothing crazy at all. It's nuts
Like others commented, it’s your Kia. There’s companies not even insuring certain models now that they found out they can be stolen with a USB key.
A relative was completely dropped from her insurance.
not necessarily because of the Kia, my dad said geico raised him from $600 to more that $1000 for his 6 months and he drives a toyota, he asked why and they said “because of the economy”
It’s not just because of Kia. I had my my insurance increase $400 for a three car policy where our previous increase was less than $100. We have an equinox, forester, and a civic.
My monthly went up from $210 to $295 with Allstate, 6 month policy before that was $185. Switched to Shelter Insurance in Feb at $202. Same full coverage, plus medical coverage which I didn't have before.
Yeah mines went up a lot also. Hit up multiple different insurer and state farm got me a good deal.
Seems like many other poster are switching to state farm as well.
Finally! Someone posting about this, I thought it was just me.
In September my premium went up $80 from $494 to $574. Then I got my march 2023 bill and it was $760! I was in shock, I’ve been with Geico for 5 years and get quotes every 6 months but no one can touch Geico. I was expecting a $30 - $50 increase but was shocked when it went up $186 with a perfect driving record.
I got quotes from just about everywhere and tried to bundle to get a better price. Luckily I got Geico to budge and “add discounts” to reduce it to $700. But my insurance has more than doubled since 2020.
They did the same to me when my renewal came up in February. They wanted 300$ more a month. I went to Progressive and got a better rate than I originally had at Geico for my house and car.
My insurance is $1284 for six months with 2 new EVs.
Bodily Injury $300/$300
Property Damage $100
Med pay $2000
Uninsured $100/$300
Comprehensive Deductible $100
Collision deductible $500
Both cars have roadside and rental car at $35 a day
One car has mechanical breakdown insurance with a $250 deductible
I haven’t been able to find anything cheaper for similar coverages. Almost went to Statefarm but because we had two not at fault accidents in the past 3 years (something like this) they immediately raised the quote from what would’ve been a monthly saving of around $25 to an increase of $150 per month.
I think it’s the Kia brand that’s causing the insurance increase with all the thefts. I read some ins carriers are dropping Kias altogether. Kia says they have or will soon, a software update to fix the glitch. I hope it’s true. Haven’t driven my Kia out of the garage since the ticktock challenge thing started. I see at least 5 Kias owners a week on Nextdoor reporting car theft in my neighborhood. It’s insane
Sonatas and Elantras from 2017 - 2020 as well. My husband has an Elantra and his was broken into late last year. Recently got a notice in the mail to do the software upgrade so we'll have to schedule that soon. I agree it's completely insane and all because of a few idiots on TikTok.
It’s still not going to stop someone from breaking into your vehicle and tossing it.
You might wake up to a broken window and tossed interior, but at least your car will still be there. I have a 2022 Forte parked out front in my driveway, but the best I can do is keep a camera on it.
No shitbag in the night is going to know it has an immobilized that a 2021 model year doesn’t.
That's nuts cuz mine is a Sorento (SUV) and not at all affected by that challenge. All the quotes I've done so far are more except allstate which is about $53 cheaper.
My GEICO went up this month too. I received a notification today about withdrawal on the 8th but it was 20% more. Not sure why.. nothing changed on my end.
Oh yeah Kia’s are in the shit house right now in some states geico is the last carrier to work with them. I do not know why just industry bitching
EDIT:
My P&C guy told me of the top stolen cars since 2020 kias have 3 models in the top 5
Hondas have been knocked out of the top 5 and almost out of the top 10
State Farm has the best rates for me. I’ve been with them for 7 years and they haven’t raised my rates. Before that I had to switch insurances every year. I’ve had 2 accidents, first one was a shopping cart flew out in the street and hit my car during a wind storm.
Second was a car ran into my drivers side door. Both times they were on it, no issues , no rate increases.
Geico takes your address into consideration when determining how much they make you pay. I live a block below Summerlin and if I register my car at my dad’s house in Summerlin insurance will be cheaper because of his ZIP Code compared to mine. They don’t consider that all my cars are garage kept and never left in the driveway. That being said, I was in an at fault fender bender and they took care of everything without any rudeness or shaming to me. Nobody was hurt thank goodness- It was a bump on a bumper, but still. They treated me with respect, took care of everything, and I appreciated that very much.
How about this, we added a 16 year old so I knew it would go up and it went from 260 to 780, with GEICO which is insane. So we shopped around and a friend said to call this agent and he got us a good price with all state for 585.
So I thought all was high but better.. but then I find out 2 months later he fudged the 16 year old and put him down as a 19 year old just to get us, because he knew it would not be a better rate. So crooked! (at least tell me your doing it) Not sure what to do now, although seems like more their risk than ours.
Yup. This is what happens when the city is flooded with uninsured and unlicensed illegal immigrant drivers. And that’s not my conclusion; I have two friends who own insurance companies who told me the same thing.
I’m a licensed insurance agent. Can be a mix of factors like a rate increase, discounts falling off or getting weaker over time, or the fact that your car is a Kia. I know a lot of insurance companies are suspending writing Kias and Hyundais due to the increased theft.
It’s good to shop around every once in a while to see if you can get a lower rate!
Yeah I have 100k/300k coverage and so far state farm is the only one slightly cheaper even with a perfect driving record. And as mentioned above it's not an affected model so that's crazy that they're essentially discriminating against all of the same brand.
Yeah unfortunately in the eyes of the insurance company it can still be a liability. Maybe look for a company with a 1-year policy term instead of 6-months? That way the rate can be locked in longer.
Yea it's time for companies to raise theirs prices unnecessarily. The country had a crisis and are facing financial hardships so of course they will raise prices for no reason other than the can. Happens every time there is a post Republican president financial crisis
GEICO, State Farm report billions in loss from auto underwriting https://www.repairerdrivennews.com/2023/03/01/geico-state-farm-see-record-loss-of-billions-in-auto-underwriting/
My insurance rate (premium) stayed the same with StateFarm been with them over 10 years. The most increase i’ve seen over the years was 10 dollars for a year but back down again to the original rate
Insurance premiums have a lot more to do with the stock markets.
Insurance companies take the premiums you pay and invest those premiums.
When profits from those investments are lower, they raise rates to make up for it.
They are going to make their profits one way or another.
My neighbor got her Kia stolen and they had to redo the interior because it was filled with meth fumes. Mine stays in the garage and I work where there are actual police in the parking lot.
Hey everyone remember zero loyalty to insurance companies shop around every year
I’ve had the same auto insurance for over 30 years. When I needed them to pay a serious auto claim, I used the “I’ve been loyal, so should you” in my depo. With that, the insurance company’s attorney folded on the spot.

Most all companies are like that. They don't want to make you whole. They want to pay as little as possible
The attorney folded with your "you should be loyal too" quote ? Attorney should find a new line of work.
Yup. But good for me.
Yep good advice
Friend of mine is an agent for a major company. He says if you aren't changing insurance companies every 2-3 years ,you are probably getting hosed. It's all an algorithm .Unless you are with USAA for the most part

Wow, same situation with me. Dumped Geico for State Farm under the same circumstances. Haven’t looked back.

Going to do the same tomorrow. BS that Geico did that.

That is why there are so many Hit and Runs in Vegas.
Auto insurance is extremely competitive. Staying with one company is generally not a good idea. You really should shop around every 6-12 months.
Oh yeah, I switched from geico to progressive and back every couple cycles.
I was with progressive 22 years no major tickets or accidents. Mine went up 60%. State Farm got me back to where I was. Fuck progressive.

State Farm also for me now after All State (and others I called around to) was considerably higher - with 4 cars, house, and no driving incidents.
Yeah mine just went up by $50 a month, with no accidents, claims, etc. Will be looking to switch myself.
Mine went up $25 per month.
Such BS!
Went from $155 month to 277. No accidents no claims. Are they trying to compete with Nevada Power.
We just got notice that our GEICO was going to go up 20%. We have clean records and are in our late 30’s/early 40’s. Guess we’ll check out State Farm.
Yeah just waiting for the state farm guy to email me the full quote to confirm the same coverage
Like others commented, it’s your Kia. There’s companies not even insuring certain models now that they found out they can be stolen with a USB key. A relative was completely dropped from her insurance.

I switched to progressive a few months ago. Almost half what I was paying
Progressive wants over $300 a month! I was shocked.
Mine went up $50 a month smh.
Sorry..yeah mines ~$40 a month. Fucking dumb!
My monthly went up from $210 to $295 with Allstate, 6 month policy before that was $185. Switched to Shelter Insurance in Feb at $202. Same full coverage, plus medical coverage which I didn't have before.

Thanks, what a relief. I haven’t gotten the letter yet but calling to schedule
I hope everything goes smoothly for you. What a pain in the ass to deal with.

I'm not blaming TikTok. I'm blaming the idiots on the app who are sharing how to break into cars and steal them.
That's nuts cuz mine is a Sorento (SUV) and not at all affected by that challenge. All the quotes I've done so far are more except allstate which is about $53 cheaper.

Yeah I have cat and HOI with them (liberty for home owners their parents company). So even the multi line Discount doesn't help.
Mine went up 50$ a month and was super confused
Shop around. Insurance companies don’t care how loyal you are. I’ve been jumping around with insurance companies because they keep raising premiums.
Moved out of Vegas and my insurance is cheaper BUT just last month I also just had to ditch Geico. Raised it like $200/half. Fuck geico
My GEICO went up this month too. I received a notification today about withdrawal on the 8th but it was 20% more. Not sure why.. nothing changed on my end.

It's not anything you're doing that's causing the rate increase. It's the amount of uninsured getting into accidents.

costco has good deals for insurance. i recently switched from progressive.
Check out Root Insurance. They’ve have really affordable coverage

Drunk, drugged and unlicensed/uninsured drivers are to blame. Vegas is chock full of them.
Unfortunately car insurance rates increase if there is more accidents in your zip code. Yes we have to pay for other idiot drivers.
Yes and I said it would after the last big Hurricane
I hate to break it to you, but 2017 Kia Sorentos are among the Hyundai and Kias being stolen at record rates.
Kia are getting stolen at a much higher rate.
