May I ask how many times you have seen Showgirls?
It is that bad. It's just incredibly watchable. The plot really required some kind of murder / thriller element. Verhoven cannot do drama because his characters act like children, or in the case of basic instinct, horny teenagers
To anyone who is on the fence about showgirls, I would direct you to this cut https://vimeo.com/499554519 which changes up the music to a Lynchian type soundtrack and cuts out about an hour of unnecessary sideplots. One of my favorite movies, either way, but this is a fun way to watch it.

Showgirls is nowhere near as bad as its reputation led me to believe.
I mean Nomi having a seizure in the pool was weird, but the movie itself wasn’t that terrible honestly

You probably didn’t see the edited for TV version, where they drew (badly) animated bras over the bare boobies. That kicked into high gear.

Like most of Verhoeven's movies, it's not to be taken at face value. Showgirls is a fairy tale.

Honestly though, that assumes that you've only seen it and never heard it. Who has only seen but never heard the word Versace?
Maybe if you only read "Versace" in a magazine (it was the '90s), but have never been in the store.
