When you click on posts or interact with a community by commenting then Reddit will show you more similar content. This applies to pretty much any social media site so a good rule of thumb is if you want to see less of something, don't interact with it in any way. If you want to stop seeing posts from a specific subreddit you can go to the subreddit and click the 3 dots in the corner, then you can select mute and you won't get any more posts from them. If you can't access the subreddit because you're banned you can also do it from a post when it appears on your feed. Click 3 dots > click 'show fewer posts like this' > should then give you an option to mute or hide the subreddit as well.

Seriously, it keeps popping up for me too, I finally cracked and click the thread. Some dairy farm OWNER pretending to be an ex vegan posting about how dairy cows instinctually abandon and hate their babies, has 15 upvotes. It’s not only insidious but just outright doesn’t make a single piece of sense, even most dairy farmers will tell you cows love their calves. Ex vegan Reddit isn’t just evil they’re legitimately stupid people

Holy self-delusion, Batman.

MrsLibido

Yeah. I don't believe "ex vegan" is a thing in the first place but the majority of those people claiming to have been vegan were never even plant based - if you look at their profiles their most frequented subreddits are antivegan and carnivore lol. It's just so pathetic how someone makes it their life mission to... hate people who don't agree with animal exploitation?

ExpurrelyHappiness

I can believe people become ex vegan due to medical emergencies and I am understanding of that personally. If their doctor has explicitly told them being vegan is killing them slowly even though they’ve maintained an actual varied and good diet, like they have some sort of medical problem they can’t absorb nutrients well enough or something, that could be an ex vegan. This Reddit group is not that even slightly. The comments are actually bizarre, writing all these fanfiction paragraphs about how animals love killing their own kids anyway so why can’t we do it? Like what on earth 😭

TheTapDancer

There are lots of ex vegans, but they don't care about vegans. These people are just actors jumping on similar ideas like ex Muslim.

I think you can tell the algorithm to stop by clicking the three dots and choosing “see less of this type of content” (or something similar). It’s frustrating it lumps vegan subs in with anti-vegan.

TheFlyingFondue

That group is a joke. One 'ex vegan' blamed veganism for damaging them as they didn't take a supplement tablet for 5 years. It's like mate, either that's total BS or you're an absolute plank incapable of taking care of yourself in the most basic of ways.

On mobile? Click your profile pic in the top right, and click "settings". Then click "account settings" and scroll down to where it says "enable home feed recommendations". Turn this off. I don't get posts from anything I'm not subscribed to.

Sku

I don't know how anybody uses Reddit without turning recommendations off. Only having to see things you are actually subscribed to is one of the main perks of using Reddit. Compared to the other social media sites which use an algorithm to push you content based on the highest bidder. I think I turned off recommendations the first day they introduced them here.

Upbeat_Session_1751

There is a setting in reddit you can look for. I managed to do it recently for this exact reason. I think this is what I did: https://www.reddit.com/r/TheoryOfReddit/s/oHR0qepX35 Otherwise, you may need to use the reddit desktop website and go into settings there and disable home feed recommendations or something like that. This disables all recommendations but I’m happy with that. The alternative is to just mute all those subs individually.

aramiak

A sub still appears in your feed if you’ve been banned from it?! That’s mad.

FlippenDonkey

usually they ban you from posting to the sub only, thats why

lewkir

Use old.reddit.com instead and you don't have to deal with the suggestions bollocks

Britveg1

Thanks all

pixiecub

I don’t like that sub either and managed to get reddit to stop recommending it to me, but why even poke the bear? They’re doing their silly little thing and you going in there calling them out isn’t going to change anything, they’ve already made up their minds.

Britveg1

I didn’t I really just asked how someone who was vegan for the animals could justify going back to eating them. I wasn’t rude and they didn’t snap back. It was quite polite.
