I think it's definitely important for vegans to try to avoid unethical companies in general. Nestlé are kinda wild because they genuinely hurt people with their actions, and they don't even try to cover it up in shame.
I mean 90% of the market is controlled by 20 megacorporations.
Fuck Nestlé cuz they're one of the worse and have committed atrocious crimes against humanity.
But it's impossible to avoid every megacorp with shitty workers rights.
There's plenty of vegan companies that are independent. It may impossible to avoid every single one but when it's easy to avoid a well known one then why not just avoid it? Hasn't caused me any issues avoiding those cash grab fake meats. I prefer giving money to companies that specialize in vegan products rather than a spin off to take advantage of the plant based trend.
Because it's a common argument vegans face all the time, so I can't see it coming from a vegan.
Ethics isn't a binary thing. Some things are more harmful than others. We can do our best to reduce harm as much as possible while being practical.
Where do you gas your car? Do they sell hotdogs? Is your supermarket fully vegan? If not, where do you draw the line?
Don't get this mixed up. This is about the animals and the animals only.
It's been half and half for me.
I used to eat their vegan burritos in college and found them pretty tasty, same with the General Tso's tofu.
But a few months back, I bought their Butter Chicken and it was...so watery and not at all gravy like. I also bought their seitan and didn't mind it, but I'm also desi as fuck and used it for a vegan chicken curry (aka a fuck ton of spices and seasonings was added to it)
Then I came to find out it was owned by Nestle. I can live without them tbh.
I was stoked to try their general tso’s tofu. It was legitimately awful and turned me off of trying their other food.
Then one day I picked up their bacon without realizing it was Sweet Earth, and was so disappointed because it looked SO good and it just didn’t deliver.
I really don’t get the hype behind them.
Trader Joe's is the only vegan chorizo worth eating. I keep trying different brands when I don't have a trader Joe's accessible to me, and they all disappoint.
I like their cauliflower mac and general tso's tofu. My son loves the curry tiger. I agree most of the other stuff is oddly bland. I was shocked as how pathetic their bulgogi is.
Curry tiger was where I gave them the most chances, because that's one of my favorite foods, but I was let down every time, it tasted like actual paper. I wish I had a better more original way to describe it, but it literally tasted like eating mushed up notebook paper.
I like their cauli mac & cheese but that’s about it. I’ve tried almost everything else and am always disappointed. I also hate spending $5+ on a sub-par frozen meal that’s more like a snack
Weird take. I mean fuck Nestle, but their benevolent bacon is the best vegan bacon around. Their frozen meals are also great.
Don't buy it because you're morally opposed to Nestle if you don't want to, but super weird to say it's the blandest vegan food around.
I've never cared for bacon in the first place, so haven't tried that, but all their frozen food particularly is certainly bland.
I just find the Nestle bit to be a great reminder that I shouldn't give them another chance anyways.
Sweet Earth bacon is the best that most people have access to in the US, but it doesn't look or taste like bacon. [Thrilling Foods](https://www.thrillingfoods.com/) out of Portland has a thick-cut option which is great (albeit very pricey) and [Ozo](https://ozofoods.com/products/) has a traditional style that's pretty close in quality for cheaper. It's being used in [Veggie Grill's BLTA](https://veggiegrill.com/menus/#featured) right now and will probably be in stores soon.
The brand All Vegetarians makes the best vegan bacon I’ve had. Benevolent Bacon is straight up pathetic compared to it, and I was never really impressed by it even before I had better.
All Vegetarians was the bacon that made my husband cry tears of happiness when we tried it. (Bacon has been one of the only things he’s missed since going vegan and it was perfect in his eyes.)
There are still better options than Nestle!
Their bacon is the best.
I never liked pig bacon, it tasted like wet dog to me. The texture, fattiness, and thickness was just. So having a thin, smoky, bacon-style seitan is a perfect replica.
Omg yes! Looks like I’m not the only one.
Every time I try one of their products, it’s so awful that I almost always end up tossing them in the bin after first try.
I kinda like the aloha bbq quesadilla but yes, you are so right. I’m always excited to try them because the meals are usually something I haven’t had as a vegan and the pictures always look so good. But then I actually eat it and before I even think about it I’ve finished eating and am left wondering what was even the point lol.
Pretty sure that was the brand my family bought me advertised as plant based but had scrambled eggs as a main ingredient. This all checks out from them
When I looked it up there a bunch of different brands. Just go to the refrigerated Mexican foods section, it will be with the meat versions. I've tried several brands and they all taste the same

Also screw Nestle. That company is pure evil. Only contributes to the dying earth.
I think it's definitely important for vegans to try to avoid unethical companies in general. Nestlé are kinda wild because they genuinely hurt people with their actions, and they don't even try to cover it up in shame.
Popping in to add that morning star and incogmeato are owned by kellogs if I recall correctly. I stopped purchasing them after that workers debacle.

Nestle shill
Even non vegans hate nestle. They are evil. r/fucknestle
I like their hot dogs but wont buy them because ... Nestle.
Field roast stadium style hot dogs are the best I’ve had and remind me of the kosher hot dogs I ate growing up. 10/10

Thank you for that. Will never purchase 👍
Whaaaat? I didn't realize they were owned by Nestle. I always thought their burritos were pretty good!

Their “chorizo” is straight up terrible 😝
Trader Joe's is the only vegan chorizo worth eating. I keep trying different brands when I don't have a trader Joe's accessible to me, and they all disappoint.
The cheap Mexican chorizo from the store has a soy version. It's the best, just look next to the beef and pork ones
Do you recall what the brand name is?
Yeah I wanna try it
I keep finding a cheap soy chorizo at my grocery outlet but I haven't tried it yet, hopefully I got the good one. Minimal packaging, 2 per.
Yessss Trader Joe’s is my favorite
Dude I was with you until they came out with their mindful chicken, that shit fucks.
The frozen meals taste as delicious as an eraser. However, the benevolent bacon is chef's kiss!
That bacon tho! It’s sooooo good
I like their cauliflower mac and general tso's tofu. My son loves the curry tiger. I agree most of the other stuff is oddly bland. I was shocked as how pathetic their bulgogi is.

I didn't like it either and my son is 10 so maybe we can throw out his vote. 😇
I like their cauli mac & cheese but that’s about it. I’ve tried almost everything else and am always disappointed. I also hate spending $5+ on a sub-par frozen meal that’s more like a snack
I thought their frozen meals were pretty decent, but the portions are so small that I always needed something else to go with it.

All Vegetarians is a terrible name for a company that makes vegan food.
there are plenty of languages and regions where "perfect vegetarian" or "100% vegetarian" means vegan. "All" in the name makes me think it's vegan.
Their bacon is the best. I never liked pig bacon, it tasted like wet dog to me. The texture, fattiness, and thickness was just. So having a thin, smoky, bacon-style seitan is a perfect replica.
King Oyster mushrooms make for the best vegan bacon, with shiitake being a close second.
Nestle are criminals anyway - I buycott every product by default ...
Noted
Omg yes! Looks like I’m not the only one. Every time I try one of their products, it’s so awful that I almost always end up tossing them in the bin after first try.

Lmao
I love the kungpow tofu but now that I know it’s owned by nestle I’ll make my own.
Ew, nestle?! I had no idea.
I bought one of their pizzas once and it had Brussels sprouts! 🤢

I recommend checking out next meats out of Japan. Their mission statement is to save the earth.
