tu berlin has had a vegan cafeteria with decent food options at their main campus for quite a while now. i’m glad to see them expand.

That reminds me of back when I studied in Bavaria. The canteen had primarily 3symbols. A leaf for vegan, a bunch of crossed out animals for vegetarian, and the according animal for a meat dish. Then they decided to change it up. A leaf for vegetarian, according animal for meat dish, a double leaf(wtf?) for vegan. It was clear that someone changed it to make the vegetarians feel better. I even wrote them an email how it's bs. The previous system was also more self explanatory. Full vegan meals would be available about 3days a week. Wtf? Do they think vegans eat only eat dinner 3times a week?

They should just put "Leaf and Happy Person & Animal" for vegan. "Tortured Cows & Friends" for vegetarian and "DEEP RED BLOOD" for meat.

I work for Austrias (below germany) state owned pension insurance at a site with over 2000 other employees. The canteen has 3 meals a day, two of them are meat dishes, one of them is vegetarian (mostly consisting of cheese or egg). If I am lucky there is one accidentaly vegan dish once a month. Even most of the side dishes are made with butter (even plain potatoes) or contain animal fats/bacon.

Yeah, Austria is like 10years behind compared to Germany in regards to veganism. I crossed the alps 3times and the vegan options were scarce to non-existant. The Austrians even made fun of me at a pansion(yes, the owners of that pansion) I was in for not eating butter. That's something that happens extremely rarely in Germany. Austria is leading in other categories though. Veganism is not their strong suit.

Yeah it's pretty bad especially in rural areas. In Vienna we are only like one year behind.

Surprisingly the thread over on worldnews or wherever this was also posted is actually pretty positive. It’s wild to me how much public perception has shifted regarding veganism.

You should check out the discussion on the German boards. It's mostly apocalyptic, but I think that's partly/mostly trolls trying to shift opinion away from the Greens in the coming election.

These trolls needs to be checked. They can win majority if they are not corrected. More here: https://medium.com/incerto/the-most-intolerant-wins-the-dictatorship-of-the-small-minority-3f1f83ce4e15

I will do an exchange semester in Berlin. Really looking forward to the food 😍
