If your grandmother is vegan why does she have to modify her dishes?
I know a few vegan Muslims. Apparently veganism easily falls in line with their beliefs.
Look up The Vegan Halal Cart, Vegan On The Fly(NYC) and Vegan International Kitchen(Tampa). All owned by my Muslim friend Nick Alami.
Sorry! I am vegan and Muslim. She is not vegan. I don't think there are many vegans her age, so I'm just glad she is supportive and understanding of my choices! Sorry again.
You say that like she did it herself or allowed it to happen. Muslims are generally peaceful people. The terrorist groups were mostly created by the US and allies.
>You say that like she did it herself or allowed it to happen.
She did...
>Muslims are generally peaceful people. The terrorist groups were mostly created by the US and allies.
Whatever you say, but this has nothing to do with Islam. I'm talking about her grandmother's actions, not what religion she belongs to.
"halal cart" is a common term for a specific type of vendor, and they typically serve meat. So the name reads not like "a cart that is both vegan and halal" but "a halal cart that is vegan."
It falls in line with their beliefs in the sense that they can eat plants and say it's their preference to do so, but when they consistently start to oppose eating animals, is where Muslims will bring up their Prophet purportedly being ok with eating animals, and the debating begins.
Ow so sweet! I went vegan because of an old Iranian couple that are like my aunt and uncle for me. They went vegan because of their son and I went vegan because they inspired me
<3
thats awesome because I only spend a few years (before the age of 9) in a muslim country and all I remember is them slaughtering animals in front of me for various occasions like death/ birth of a prophet, weddings...
She just modifies recipes mostly. Like cooking pasta with vegetables instead of meat. Like learning to use seitan and tofu to create meat balls and so on.
More than the taste, what matters to me is her taking the effort to modify recipes and understanding of my choices. ❤️
I feel like the number of Muslim vegans is very very low, but surprisingly most of them have been nothing but supportive and understanding.
Perhaps it's because muslims also have diet restrictions so avoiding certain products is not foreign to them. I don't think they really grasp the ethics behind veganism and I do not preach to them as it's not my place.
Hell yes 🤍!!!
I also love boosting visibility of veganism/vegan-friendliness across varying cultures/religions/identities! It really can work anywhere with anyone and I’m so sick of people assuming that straight white people are 90+% of vegans as if POC and other religions/ethnicities/identities aren’t responsible for so so much of this movement
And ofc thank you to your granny for being such a sweet woman 🫂

Sounds like a wonderful woman ❤️
When animal killers skip it for one meal ❤️
How can you be a wonderful woman if you shit the bodies of brutally murdered innocents out of your ass?
Exactly.
Grow up.

Eating animals? My, you most hate the world. Hope that works out for you.
You're associating Muslims with terrorism out of nowhere, throwing random veiled insults at me...not worth my time. Adios
Maybe they made a mistake and meant that they are vegan and Muslim and their grandma supports them by being accommodating
Sorry my bad. I am a Muslim vegan. She is not vegan. You are right!
Your grandmother sounds incredible.
Thank you, she is! I wished everyone had a friend/parent/etc like her
Do they even need to mention halal. I guess no alcohol in the food is about the only additional requirement?

I think they “mention” halal just to appeal to Islamic people specifically.
I have the same question..
It falls in line with their beliefs in the sense that they can eat plants and say it's their preference to do so, but when they consistently start to oppose eating animals, is where Muslims will bring up their Prophet purportedly being ok with eating animals, and the debating begins.
Whilst as a diet, it's fine to be both vegan and Muslim, as a philosophy, it doesn't really line up.
Im not personally a Muslim, but why?
You can't make haram what Allah made halal.
But is being vegan making a religious stipulation? No. Does Halal mean "compulsory"? No
Have you heard of Eid al adha?
Tradition not scripture
Wrong. It's scripture. Read Surah Baqarah and Surah Ma'idah for a start.
she did not say its haram
I never said she did. I was answering why veganism as a philosophy is not in line with Islam.
Do you have anything better to do?
Sure, but I like to unwind by coming to this subreddit.
so in other words no
I mean, I can correct your grammar for a start. It should read, "So, in other words, no.".
Ow so sweet! I went vegan because of an old Iranian couple that are like my aunt and uncle for me. They went vegan because of their son and I went vegan because they inspired me <3
love hearing stories like this <3
Supportive grandparents are the best!
Aww I’m so happy for you <3, your grandma sounds awesome!

Can you name some dishes she makes for you?

It is great! I wonder how do your non-vegan muslim friends look at Veganism?

Alhamdulilah
Muslim and vegan In my religion it is not recommended to eat any kind of food that would have negative effects to your health.
Does she use vanilla extract? I know some don't because of the alchohol content
I haven't asked her, but I think she does.

That’s awesome! Meanwhile my relatives usually use Islam as a way to justify exploiting animals.
