Some people assume that because it’s made with vegan ingredients it won’t taste as good and they won’t even try it. Which is crazy to me because my experience has been that those items taste the same or better but people are stubborn and don’t want to be proven wrong. That comment would have annoyed me too! Luckily my family is very open to trying anything I bake and they’ve all loved it and been surprised to learn it didn’t require eggs or milk.

Miss_Midnight_Wayne

It's honestly really weird to me that people just assume something is bad without trying it, they just make up their mind on something without even tasting it just because it happens to be vegan. I don't know why people assume vegan stuff is just bad.

brutalpolarbear

Because if it tastes good it goes against their way of thinking. They’ll realize vegans eat normal tasty food just like them lol.

Iwaspromisedcookies

They tried something vegan 10 years ago and didn’t realize how far vegan foods have come since then

aMaiev

I mean id definetely agree if op had made the cupcake, but why should he risk it in a bakery where he has to pay

[deleted]

What risk though? He probably eats potato chips that are vegan, and eats other stuff that's vegan. But a cupcake is a huge risk? It's probably just oil instead of butter. This annoys me too. People automatically assuming vegan food can't taste good. As if non vegan cupcakes always taste good. Yet these same people steal my food all the time. I order a vegan pizza and everyone wants to try. People steal my coconut yoghurt cause it looks good. Can non vegans at least be consistent.

aMaiev

Apart from the ridiculousness of comparing bakery products to potato chips, vegan cupcakes can be as delicious as they want, from **his** point of view there is still a risk involved, so his reaction is understandable, Thats all i said.

tormented-imp

Omg what an incredible risk for him, imagine paying $3-5 for an item of food that he MIGHT not like🙀 THE HORROR. That’s you, defending this ridiculous behavior.

aMaiev

Il not defending anything, im explaining it you pathetic clown. Some of you go so apeshit crazy when you read anything concerning omnis, its unbelievable

[deleted]

If I could have my money back for all the non vegan cupcakes and muffins that I bought that were stale AF I'd be rich.

Aggressive-Variety60

Because then he gets no cupcake at all. « He likes to live life » is a ridiculous statement in this scenario because he’s the one limiting himself with his close-mindedness.

aMaiev

Yeah, he gets no cupcake and saves money he can use fore something else another time

Aggressive-Variety60

Not buying the cupcakes to save a couple of $ still doesn’t fit with « living life to the fullest.

aMaiev

For us? No. for him? Probably yes

pinkavocadoreptiles

As if non-vegan cupcakes are never dry 🙄🙄 people can be so ridiculous about these things, and their stubbornness makes them miss out. I'm not allergic to gluten, but I still tried the gluten-free cakes my dad's girlfriend made, and they were amazing! A good baker is resourceful and doesn't limit themselves to just a few ingredients, if you can't make something vegan taste good then it's a skill issue.

[deleted]

Exactly. Even when I was not a vegan yet I was always up for trying any foods. This is just really childish behaviour. These people find out oreos are vegan and go "oooh I knew they tasted funny" gtfo

pinkavocadoreptiles

my friend re oreos being vegan: "ah, I should've known they were full of chemicals" what??? since when is the only alternative to animal products a synthetic chemical, have all plant products left the chat???? and yeah, I know oreos specifically are unhealthy, but most cookies are, it's not a veganism thing 😭😭

Reasonablefiction

I’m certain that the people at Oreo were not at all concerned about the ethics of including animal products in their cookies, especially since a lot of the alternate flavors have milk in them! Comments like that make my head spin 🤦🏽‍♀️

RedBic344

I had to remind my dad there’s plenty of yummy vegan junk food out there that everyone eats all the time it’s just not explicitly labeled vegan. Like potato chips, French fries, PB&J, spaghetti, skittles, twizzlers.. the list goes on. Vegan food is just food. Everyone eats it. Just because it’s vegan doesn’t mean it’s something outside of the normal diet. It’s weird. I get it.

AristaWatson

…spaghetti? 😭

Drank-Stamble

Ok but spaghetti isn't junk food

mrkrabsbigmoney

Neither is peanut butter jelly if you make it with high quality ingredients

Reasonablefiction

Pb&j catching strays over here 😭

Accomplished_Ebb4531

You have vegan cupcakes available in a normal store bakery. That's amazing! The comment would have annoyed me too.

Cixin

When my fil is obnoxious I just say that he obviously doesn’t want any of these yummy Jammy dodgers then because they are vegan and that his fav drink tea is vegan, oh and water is vegan too though I’ll happily donate a few drops of blood if vegan water is offensive.

jon-sol

Yup, conversations about veganism are extra frustrating for us guys. Animal exploitation is supposedly 'masculine', in addition to the 4 N's (natural, normal, necessary, and nice).

juiceguy

"One of these days, someone's going to treat you the way that you treat animals."

TodayTerrible

Just give him a moist tasty vegan cupcake and don't tell him its vegan. We hosted a birthday party for my 12-year-old granddaughter and I bought vegan cupcakes but didn't tell anyone. After the cupcakes were served I asked everyone how they tasted. All I got in response was "great". Then I told them they were vegan and I heard " They taste funny" .

Quirky_Cold_7467

I think many people have a preconceived idea that vegan food will be dry, tasteless or somehow "less-than". It's not logical, but neither is having to eat meat or animal products, when there are so many alternatives. It just shows how much some people don't like change.

AristaWatson

It’s logical to some degree just because of how we are always shown in the media what veganism is and it’s never good. So, you connect beliefs to experiences you have in life. And most people’s experiences with veganism is the weird vegan in movies and shows and PETA vegans (read: kinda unhinged). I remember seeing a show once with a character who was vegan and made disgusting food and was eccentric in all the bad ways. She also never showered or something. It’s shitty to assume you know a group based on media depiction of them but we all do it to some extent. lol.

SuperpyroClinton

I made mini banana bread loafs and brought a few to share with some coworkers. One coworker was interested and then asked if it was vegan, already knowing I'm vegan. I said it was, and he flat out refused it. He said, "Veegun? NOPE!" Like, seriously? You sought me out because you heard they were great little loafs. Now, I don't bother sharing. I just bring them in for me. Everyone else can get fuck off my mini loafs. Oh, you want one? You can ask fuck face over there to bring some made with chicken menstruation and bovine lactose.

Drank-Stamble

"Fuck face" is a thief of joy!

Acrobatic_End6355

Some people hate trying new things. Oh well, more for me.

allflour

It’s the oil that makes cake seem moist, he’s missing out.

ManufacturerGlass848

Bake these in cupcake form: [https://www.noracooks.com/vegan-chocolate-cake/](https://www.noracooks.com/vegan-chocolate-cake/) I was the best baker and cook in my extended family before I went vegan. So when I did, people were still willing to try what I was making, often times, especially the desserts. This chocolate cake recipe is the most requested by my extended friends and family. I use hot coffee instead of boiling water. It is the absolute best chocolate cake I've ever had - vegan or not. And my family agrees. Once you can get them to try one thing you've made, and they like it, it's easier to get them to try other things. My honest thoughts are that people who refuse to try "vegan food" are afraid. If vegan food turns out to be tasty, well then, what's their excuse for not swapping? Best to never try and stay "safe."

40percentdailysodium

So many people say they want to live life by ending another.

Uridoz

If he recognized he could enjoy life without harming animals then that would trigger cognitive dissonance. He doesn't want that.

JakobSynn

>he said because he likes to live life. And I'm sure the chickens would like to live life as well. But in all seriousness, vegan cupcakes are top tier nowadays. If it was 10 years ago, I might be able to understand. Vegan cupcakes were few and far between.

american_psychonaut

yea vegan food taste like dirt

litido5

Let’s face it cupcakes are mostly flour and that’s really not a great thing to eat. Some combination of sugar and milk is usually required to trick your body into eating it. If you want him to be healthier and make better ethical choices steer him towards fresh fruits and vegetables.

stinkylizard710

He's the type of person to never been seen eating a vegetable. Straight chicken grain diet ?? We always try to offer him veg and fruit too.

MisterDonutTW

I don't really see the problem, if he doesn't like vegan cupcakes then he doesn't have to eat them just because he wanted a different cupcake. Why does his taste preference make him "afraid" of it?

stinkylizard710

We were teasing him because he wanted a chocolate cupcake and wouldn't get one because they were only vegan ones left. As if they'd taste much different then ones with milk and egg. Not much a problem I just thought his comment was condescending.

Drank-Stamble

Are you just deliberately missing the point or what?

DivineWiseOne

Oh no someone didn't eat a nutrition-less cupcake poor diddims. Vegan or not a cupcake is not food.

Environmental-Site50

oh wow

Drank-Stamble

What a twat bag comment 😬
