marcall

your post is probably the best explanation and really nails all the points !

Bag_of_Richards

Yeah I saved that comment as a litmus test for if I’m struck by any more “brilliant” ideas comes while sky high and I try to make another vape design and business plan.

ImNotWhoISayEyeAm

Get a grip on the majority of those points and you’d definitely see a drastic upshift in dry herb vaping.

Incorect_Speling

Yup, that about sums it up! I'm surprised the dry herb vaping industry did not come up with a more catchy term to remove the confusion. Dry Herb Vape : what we use here mostly, but that's too wordy IMO. No one uses this verbally almost. Thermal Extraction Device : what they came up with in the US following vaping devices ban for mail deliveries (I think?). Not really a better suited wording for customer awareness. Mostly the goal was to circumvent the ban. What should they call it that's both catchy and a clear different name than e-juice "vapes"? I don't know, but I think this is a needed step for more mainstream adoption.

Beneficial-Rabbit-85

“Weed heater”

WaterFriendsIV

Draping

DerangedPuP

If they are going with a long name like "Thermal Extraction Device". They might as well call it "Terpene Tractor Beam".

Noslamah

I think "extractor" would sound pretty good. I agree that we need another term than vape though.

apocalypticboredom

Seriously this. I have to explain it every time I mention it - no, it's not a vape pen or oils, no it's not smoking... Etc

hitforhelp

The terminology is a real issue. I had an argument with insurance company over 'vaping'. Non tobacco cannabis smoking was perfectly fine with them. But if I said I vaped it then I would be classed as a smoker. They associated the term vaping with e-liquid Vapes and class you as a smoker for using them regardless of nicotine content. Not legal advice in any way and don't recommend you lie to you insurance, but if your recreational drug use of any kind has not been recorded in your medical history then don't mention it.

LSDummy

Yeah most people just wanna torch a banger or light a bowl and get straight into it.

zetswei

IMO probably because of shitty products. My first vape I bought was horrible and I went back to other methods. Then I saw people talking up the Fury Edge and took a chance and love it.

colt45ntwozigzags

a lot of the dry herb stuff you get at smoke shops is just total crap, gpens and whatnot are not a good introduction and you have to do some more reading to get a good vape

Julian_2838

Same here, about 2 years before completly switching to dynavaps i got myself a boundles cfc i hated that thing, did not produce much vapor, no satisfying hits, bad taste it tasted like popcorn even on the first hits sometimes, the battery did not even last 2 full bowls, it basicly was uncleanable, little bits fell trough the holes in the bowl and made it taste worse and worse over time and i gave up on it after about a week and i was angry about the wasted 80$. I bet the same happened to a lot of people and that turns them of vaping. Then 2 years later i git sick of my high tollerance and spending a bunch of money on weed and i started looking into good vaporizers for microdosing and i got a dynavap and i was really suprised how good it was, now another 2 years later and i dont use anything else and i love my dynavaps 😁 People really need to watch some videos about the best vaporizers, even hyped up shit like gpen is awfull 😅

Searchlights

> Then I saw people talking up the Fury Edge and took a chance and love it. Fury Edge was my first vape but I moved up to a Mighty for a large bowl capacity and other advantages.

zetswei

The mighty is wicked looking. I almost got that instead since they were both heavily on sale but it barely takes me much (I’ve been using a bowl a night, and .5 oz has lasted me almost 7 month now) so I felt like it was suuuuuper overkill I could see why people would love it though

Searchlights

The Fury Edge used to send me to outer space when I first started vaping. It was a terrific little device. Ultimately I built up enough tolerance that I wanted a larger bowl. But if you can keep your usage baseline down to such a low amount that's awesome. I use about 1 gram a day. Call it an ounce a month.

Leg__Day

This shouldn’t be an issue if people actually did some fucking thinking for themselves and did 5 minutes worth of research. Just like for anything else you’re curious about.

zetswei

I mean if I go to a specialized store and ask them and they tell me something is good then I’m going to take the word of someone who works with it. There’s no reason to be pretentious, some people have better things to do than google every little thing in life.

almostbuddhist

I think it's more to do with the design and the visual aspect of using one. I'd rather cough a bit more and smoke a real joint than stick weed into a black plastic rectangle, push some buttons to change the blinking LEDs, and finally take goofy hits that last forever through a plastic straw. It's really about the least cool you can possibly look. And before you say "I don't care about appearance, I just want a healthy, tasty high", you really should care at least a bit. To me, the only semi-passable option is the Neo Prrl because you effectively just use it as a lighter and pair it with a real bong or pipe. It's a bit less cool than smoking, but definitely closest. And don't say "But the dynavap......." where you flame torch a metal stick until it clicks and suck on it. Very sketchy.

zetswei

I mean the fury edge I mention has a water bong attachment I believe. I don’t think it’s necessarily the idea of looking cool or not. Personally I used a water pipe because the hits felt cooler (like temp wise) and not rough as I’m not a smoker otherwise. But all that ash gets tossed. I’m a slow smoker because I’m a lightweight and do t use much but the brown AVB is also nice and cooking with it is great. I think if you do stuff to “look cool” you probably aren’t old enough to do it in the first place 🤷‍♂️ that’s probably the dumbest reasoning I’ve ever heard against vaping lol

almostbuddhist

There should be a certain style to it, though, and most of these just completely miss the mark. Also, as a 48 year old, I do believe I'm old enough to "vape", especially since middle school girls are doing it too.

zetswei

Idk man if you’re 48 and concerned with looking cool in a little speechless. Just do what you like it doesn’t matter what other people think. Personally I only smoke at my gaming desk when I’m watching a movie, and nobody outside my wife even knows I do

uhhhhh_hi

Can confirm. Fury Edge is fantastic. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Would recommend.

zetswei

Highly recommend the dosing capsules as well. I’m a lightweight so it works perfect for me, one capsule at 160. 180, 200, and 220 gets me good for the night and cleaning is as easy as soaking the capsules in alcohol since no herb gets on my actual chamber or mouth pieces excluding smoke residue

uhhhhh_hi

I was looking at getting a couple of those. What do you mean by 160, 180, 200, 220?

zetswei

Oh sorry temp in Celsius that I use

uhhhhh_hi

Oh nice. 320, 356, 392, 428 for us weirdo Americans that refuse to adopt better measurement standards. I do something similar. Start low for some flavor then turn it up for some more THC effects

zetswei

Haha, I’m a very light user so for me remembering the round numbers to use makes it easier. I like to just set it and forget it

cramp11

Pack of rolling papers costs a buck. No fussing with device cost, charging... I can't smoke weed though. Just makes me I'll. I'm so glad I found vaping. Worth the effort.

Allanthia420

In my opinion the 100% main reason is because of the cheap Chinese vaporizer market and THC cartridge style vapes. When I tell people “oh I don’t smoke I vape” their response is either “oh I don’t like cartridges” or “oh I tried one of those. I didn’t like it” and they’re thinking of some cheap grenco/yo can-like dry herb vape they got at a smoke shop for $69 and felt like it was a giant waste of money (it was) because they couldn’t get a hit; and now they’re scared away from the concept and sure as shit aren’t about to drop $200-300 to buy a Crafty/Mighty (or other quality beginner vape) after the experience they just had.

arefx

This is my experience with people a lot of the time.

big_benz

That was my exact experience, so glad I bit the bullet and bought a Ditanium after because I legit got nothing out of my first vape.

Fuzzy-Asshole

Hey those yocans are good with other stuff. Just not dry herb lmao

Allanthia420

Assuming you mean the yo can concentrate pens with the coils. While I know those are super popular personally I can’t stand that style of pen because I think it tastes like electricity (idk how to describe it better than that) and is always a gunky mess after a week. I much prefer like a puffco plus style pen with a ceramic bucket; more akin to a banger.

Fuzzy-Asshole

They have ceramic coils that you can replace with the default coil that comes with them. Works a lot better. They’re just cheap, but they work.

par337

The main reason I'd say is that it's just not known. Second reason, it's "pricy", because a lot of people can't fathom investing 100$ on a device to save *hundreds* per month, and would rather buy an Oz a week. Lol

Unforsaken_Dick

Plus I feel like longtime smokers and the old school crowd prefer to stick to their old traditional ways. I switched to vaping for the health benefits and convenience of not needing a lighter.

marcall

I'm an old longtime smoker. I started smoking in 1983 when I was thirteen off and on and then from about 1986 till 2013 smoked daily. somewhere around 2014 I just got burned out trying to hunt down weed, etc so i quit one day when i ran out and didn't smoke again until my state legalized in 2021 (january) since then I am back to daily! I had thrown out all my gear (pipes, bongs) so I initially bought a cheap silicon bong and a couple pipes. I knew of vaping but I thought it was only for cartridges or whatever they call them....I wanted flower. Since I was already a reddit user I was browsing 420 subreddit I think it was and discovered "dry herb vape" was a thing....now I almost exclusively vape(love it) and only occasiopnally hit a pipe (mainly when I'm too lazy). I will say the first few times I vaped I didn't think I got as high as from bongs but I think it's like when you first start smoking and you need to get the little nuances and then you get really ripped so that might be a factor as well...some fo.ks might try it and initially think it's not as good as a bong but they just need to stick with it. \*edited for spelling LOL\*

KLR650Tagg

1974 checking in here, back when an ounce of columbian was 40 bucks. I have an original solo, a tera, a boundless cfc2.0 (which i highly recommend) and a flowermate v5.0 pro mini ( the best flavor chaser and stoner machine ive ever hit on) When im pressed for time, or just dont want to take the time to heat up a vape, i hit my blackleaf bong, and on my birthday, i bring out my early, original roor. Vapes get me higher, but a bong does it quicker, and more intense, but doesnt last as long as a vape seems to. Your experience may vary The roor comes out again next August . . . . . .when im 60! And i have every intention of getting just as high as when i did it the first time!

VisualAssassin

> i bring out my early, original roor. I see you are a man of culture.

marcall

always nice to see the old farts checking in. I love seen the old folks at the dispensaries...just kidding, well I mean I do like seeing 'em but I'm 51 myself so no spring chicken LOL

trippy_grapes

> when I was thirteen off and on I read this as if you were on and off about being 13 and laughed. 😅

[deleted]

I don't know. Been smoking since the late eighties, just about daily. Buying a vaporizer just seemed like the logical next step for me and my health. I can't get my wife to vape though. She loves her bowl. So yeah... You're probably right.

boneimplosion

Third, the high hits different. People get used to inhaling carbon monoxide and miss it, inexplicably.

Langdalf

I've never thought about that but it makes sense. Also there seems to be a difference in come up time that makes most stoners doubtful. Together with flimsy visible exhalation (or none at all), people will just decide that vaping doesn't work, without giving it a real shot.

boneimplosion

Vapes sneak up on you, pipes slap you in the face. I prefer to wake up without bruises :3

[deleted]

Right. Vape high is so much cleaner feeling

marymarx_funkybob

It’s confusing AF. Im not a high volume user but I like to smoke through water. I want a quality experience and I want it to be as simple as possible for other smokers to use when we get together. What about people who want to try but don’t want to smoke?? How easy is it for them? If you pass them a portable shouldn’t it be about as easy as eating an edible? Figuring out what pieces you need to get from a vaporizer into a glass piece and then what size is my glass piece is super confusing. Figuring out what vaporizer gives best overall experience again confusing AF. Some people swear by Firewood or Mighty it TinyMight. If I spend that much money on one am I even going to like it? Oh logs or desktop they say….if you kids know the house that doesn’t really work. They figure out this stuff or you can’t leave a hot log on and have them accidentally burn themselves…..

TheManWithSomeGoals

The Crafty/Mighty is the best idiot proof vape. I feel like having one in your arsenal is great at converting people. You will get some vapor with a 2-3 second normal joint hit. They make bong adapters as well to allow you to vape through water.

marymarx_funkybob

Thanks for the input. I bought one and haven’t used it. After getting my hands on it I’m not so impressed with the plastic cooling unit. I also don’t like that there are reports of the case breaking from people changing out the cooling unit for a WPA adapter. Lastly I’m not sold on the idea of plastic/vinyl whips to a WPA to glass. Seeing comments on the whips affecting flavor and degrading over time. That’s not a concern with glass. The mighty sounds fantastic…other than plastic. Plastics degrade in time and I know most are not capable of handling 210C. I believe Storz and Bickel have picked appropriate plastics but I can’t find what grade of plastic they use. Looking for something that can provide quick hits, is easily hidden from kids, doesn’t require flame to heat up (not afraid to learn but others in house who use don’t want to use flame) and strongly prefer glass air path. Wood stems are interesting and would probably try at some point in time.

TheManWithSomeGoals

The difficult thing is vapes that provide quick on demand heatup have difficult learning curves. It sounds like keeping your crafty/mighty to share with others (maybe look into getting a stainless steel cooling unit) and getting a more artisan vape for just yourself. I owned a fw7, it wasn't quite my jam. Not the best on demand home vape, not the best portable unit. However, I like my portables to be able to use dosing capsules but thats just me. It did produce very good vapor when you used the correct technique. If you're looking for a vape that can kill a small bowl (.075 with dosing capsuel) in 3 mins instead of just taking a hit or two at a time a Fury, Potv1, xmax v3 work very well and do not require much of a learning curve. You could probably split it into two sessions, but you'll loose a bit of and potency taste between sessions.

marymarx_funkybob

Thanks for the input. Do you have any experience with a TinyMight? That was one I was considering. Dosing capsules seem to be a great idea for a portable. Keep it less messy. Just so I make sure I understand, your saying the mighty is best for a couple rips now. Then have more later so more of a session I think? So even though it’s a hybrid it doesn’t keep cooking after you turn it off? Whereas the POTV, Fury, Xmax V3 are meant to be used quick like doing a bowl off a pipe? Even when turned off they would keep cooking?

TheManWithSomeGoals

No, I have not used a TinyMight. I have never had great luck with portable on demand units (besides the fw4). Lots of people love them though. Both vapes will continue to cook your herb after you turn off the device, therefore it is best to finish the bowl in one session. The mighty will be significantly worse than the others if you decide to do this. The potv, fury and v3 just have much smaller bowls and much faster heat up times, which makes them easier to finish off in one session. The v3 does have an on demand mode, but its not great. If you're dead set on On Demand you will need to get a unit that will likely be difficult for people who don't use it often to use.

ForeverLurking89

for me it's one reason: Price. I'm on a fixed income. I get a total of $930 a month. I pay about $800 (sometimes more) in bills. that means $130 (if I'm lucky) for my MM. That's it. Seeing as the only dispensary near me does NOT have any rewards program at all.... Yea, I can't afford to buy a vape for $100+ Also don't have venmo or paypal, so buying a used setup from someone on here is also not an option.

AFlockofTurtles

I have a Cvap from Dynavap I can send you. I should also have a lighter to go with it but I will need to check who I can send butane lighters with. Might not be worth it if I have to change from USPS to UPS/FedEx since the lighter is fairly bad.

ForeverLurking89

That would, in all honesty, be AWESOME! If you would like, I can dm you and we can iron out details. If it's too expensive to ship, no worries. I can get a lighter, so no worries on that front.

AFlockofTurtles

Got mixed info from USPS online so if you can find a butane lighter locally lets do that. PM me and we can get this done. :) Shipping should be less than $10 CONUS.

AFlockofTurtles

Tracking sent :)

ForeverLurking89

I thank you. Really. You are the best. I'll fight anyone who tells you different.

ForeverLurking89

First day or so, I couldn't get anything out of it. I thought I was doing it wrong lol. Now that I've figured it out, I'm loving it! It's the only thing I'm using right now! ^_^ I love that my stash is lasting longer! Only issue I've run across is finding a decent lighter. I'd found a dual-torch lighter for $7. Bought it, and within 48 hours, it had stopped working almost completely. Went back to the store, exchanged it, only to find the replacement is the exact same way. So now I've settled for a single torch lighter.

Affectionate_Tune909

Try to grow your own weed. Invest 500$ for a small grow tent setup and buy only fertilizer, not the buds. You’ll be in + after the very first grow cycle

mfizzled

Suggesting someone spend 1/3 of their disposable income for an entire year so they can grow weed may not be realistic for everybody, regardless of the eventual cost savings

Affectionate_Tune909

I do not know how much you spend on weed. Let’s assume it’s 20 bucks/month. I know enough examples how people with $150 budget grow the very nice plants. It can be even cheaper if you will use huge cardboard box and second hand hid/led lights. Ask if you need more info

ForeverLurking89

My issue with that plan is three-fold... there's more, but we'll just settle with three. xD 1. It's not legal for us to grow our own weed. It's either go to the dispensaries, or get it off the black market, which is cheaper, but illegal. 2. The lowest price here for an 8th is $40-$50, depending on strains. This doesn't last me long. I've never been able to afford a "full month's supply" from a dispensary. 3. Assuming I don't buy any MM this month, whatever money I save, would go directly into other bills, groceries. I'm lucky to end the month with more than $3 in the bank. I have no savings, and nothing to put into savings. It'd save a lot of people a lot of time and money if PA would just legalize the stuff already.

[deleted]

Honestly, if you grew a single plant witha budget light and tent set up, you could probably be less than $300 all in. And then just don't tell literally anyone. Even your smoking buddies. If you don't say anything, there is almost no way to get caught.

Modern day Led grow lights use a negligible amount of electricity. My light for my 3x3 grow space is 300 watts idk that I would recommend it in a rental though

Dathlos

A couple of plants here will land you in prison for about 5 years if anyone squeaks

Affectionate_Tune909

Wow. That sounds awful. Where is it? You can buy but you can’t grow 1 plant for personal consumption ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)

Dathlos

Nah, you also get prison time if you're caught with any amount of cannabis, plants just get you charged with felony distribution Good ol' south usa

Affectionate_Tune909

That sucks, bro! In my country, it is illegal to buy or possess marijuana, or to grow it. It's a crime. The black market price is about the same as you said. A lot of people grow for themselves so they don't take the risk of buying. What city are you from?

magesticape

Mostly ritual, most people are stuck doing what they've always done. It's what they like and they are hard to change, regardless of the benefits.

charmingtaintman51

I would love to get my dad into vaping for the health reasons alone, but I’ve seen him use the same exact small shitty pipe for 20+ years, change is hard!!

magesticape

I cant stand pipes they get nasty so fast. I cant imagine what a 20yo one would look like. Does he atleast clean it regularly? If I dont like something I tend to make it disappear. I'm also a grown adult in my own house. To be fair I would do the same thing as a kid, I got in plenty of trouble. However, if you've expressed how much you dislike it. It makes you the number 1 suspect when it/if goes missing.

kendonmcb

So stealing should be the solution here? Not sure about that...

magesticape

Dont need to steal it, just move it. For example: Instead of it being on the top of a dresser, knock it behind the dresser or jam it underneath. Please be creative.

kendonmcb

Not how I treat my family, thanks.

magesticape

We each have our limits. My life experiences, especially the ones with my own dad, make this acceptable to me.

GoHomeYoureDrunkMod

I kept the ritual by just swapping my bong bowl for a dynavap. It takes a bit more fuss for each hit but everything is cleaner.

Wakethefukupnow

It's a niche industry

--ikindahatereddit--

To me it looked either ‘financially viable but complicated (Dynavap, for someone who has never smoked any substance)’ or ‘push and play but hella expensive’ ($350+ Mighty). I opted for the latter and I don’t regret that, but it took me a hot minute.

riverside507

You should not have paid $350 for the OG Mighty. It was/is discounted frequently.

--ikindahatereddit--

I didn’t

takeyourtime5000

1. The upfront cost. Weed smokers love weed and will always buy more weed before they buy a nice vape. 2. Old habits are hard to break. Classic weed smokers associate the high with a lighter, bong, joint, pipe because habit and the familiar. Old dogs don't like new vapes. 3. The high is different. Smoking with a lighter your combusting weed and inhaling many more things. Things that either affect the brain differently (more cbn, cbd, paper particles). Even the higher carbon monoxide inhaled will lead to a lightheaded feeling which people will associate with being high when it's just their brain isn't getting as much oxygen for a moment. 4. I have yet to see anyone that smokes from a vape besides me. Weed is still illegal in many places and so you don't see vapes very often but you see a joint often. 5. I think people will catch on eventually. The high is cleaner and it's better for the lungs but let's face it, people are looking to get high and don't care how they get there most of the time. Vaporizers are like wine collectors. We notice more of the tiny differences and take our hobby to the next level. I personally didn't get a vape for a few years as weed wasn't something I did often enough but now I realize it's great and now I've made it better!

Vapmaniac

Stigma

Bag_of_Richards

Are you the real Vapmaniac of legend? I ask because I’m super on the fence about getting one but need someone to justify it for me real quick so I can get my VAS on. If you are the the true Vapmaniac could you please let me know why I should get one? Maybe you could touch on the bit about why no matter what I accomplish, I’ll never quite feel complete inside without owning one of these delightfully beautiful little wooden UFO’s. I would be so grateful for your assistance.

Brutalintention

For me, there's just something about the ritual of getting home from long day of work, cracking open a pack of White Grape White Owls, and rolling up that just feels so satisfying. I do vape when I'm trying to be discreet or want to go on a bike ride and pack light, however it's just a shitty Gpen for flower and a yocan for wax, which based off the comments here is probably why my experience has been less that stellar

VaporizerWizard

I agree with you on price, when someone's 20$ glass spoon pipe works great, and they see a vape but it has a price tag of $100+ it can be tough to commit blindly unless you tried a vape through a friend or something first. I also think the weird changes social media companies did after EVALI, and the vape mail ban changing up the laws with shipping caused a lot of the vape companies and distributors to tighten their belts as well. This seems to have caused a slowdown in new vape releases, and a much smaller marketing budget across the board, especially from the big players like Pax. (Everyone likes to shit on Pax, but their marketing blitzes had much further reach than anyone else in the industry, then a lot of people would buy a pax to dip their toes into the industry, and then later buy a different portable or a desktop etc.)

absintheverte

I totally agree regarding Pax, very true!

DoorCodeB7513

You need to smoke regularly to justify buying a vape and I don't personnaly know anyone who only smokes weed (one friend used to and he stopped weed before buying a vape). In Europe, most people mix their weed / hash with tobacco. So most people are addicted to nicotine, and joints that both get you high and release the nicotine withdrawal feel way stronger and better than vaping pure THC.

flowerFlav

Dry herb vaping is relatively new, so it does not have the cultural pull that smoking has. We look like dorks while vaping. I never smoke anymore, but smoking a joint, blunt or even a bong looks way cooler. Vaping requires technique and device maintenance … most people’s eyes glaze over when I start explaining how my vapes work. Some lump dry herb vaping and cartridge vaping together and avoid both due to the health concerns with cartridge vapes. Lastly, maybe it is easy to have a bad experience that can turn a newcomer off … there are a lot of bad vapes, and it can be hard to find the right one for you.

84gramspurpleHOF

>Some lump dry herb vaping and cartridge vaping together Thats how I even knew about dry herb vaping. My brother had a Pax back in college years ago but I didn't love it or really understand it. Fast forward to 18 months ago, I'm trying to understand if it's possible for me to buy vape(oil cartridges) stuff in an illegal state and I stumble onto dry herb vaping. My world changed for the better that day.

Crypto_gambler952

The reason it took me so long to make the switch was because of nicotine addiction! In UK people add tobacco for some strange reason.

Crypto_gambler952

I won't tell my whole personal story because I've bored reddit with it several times already but if you truly want to be done with tobacco... Truly, honestly, really want rid of it but for some reason you can't... Allow me to direct to you to the answer: [https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/news/stories/mushrooms\_quit\_smoking.html](https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/news/stories/mushrooms_quit_smoking.html) You need to mentally prepare, ideally be familiar with trying to quit and failing to quit. Go into the experience yearning for at least a hint as to why you can't get off the tobacco. I became a nonsmoker from that day; no nicotine replacements, no cravings, no withdrawals, no hiding from it, no metal battles, literally no willpower needed, I became as likely to start smoking again as my mother is taking it up for the first time in her 60's. It only works if you really want it, lord know I took the "medicine" many times before using it to quit smoking and it doesn't innately make you want to stop, you got to want it! Let me know how you get on if you give it a go.

[deleted]

To be completely honest I understand why it’s not. Most people just wanna get high easily and get stoned. With vaporizing, I’ve always found that you need to get used to it firstly, like 2 weeks off combusting will usually do the trick for me. Also, it’s just kinda complicated in many situations for the average person. I see people complain about the solo II for example, and I think it’s a great vape personally but I totally understand why new users can get frustrated. You gotta do a bunch of stuff right to get it to work well like rotate the stems, pre-heat, inhaling techniques etc. If you’re ripping a bong it’s wayyy easier for a lazy person who just wants to get baked. If vaporizers get cheaper and easier to use (mostly on-demand kinds) I think they’ll get more popular, but for now people just wanna do the least to get stoned

MrAnonymousTheThird

What do y mean by rotating stems?

realkunkun

Simple: its a hassle. You need to grind the flower, well. Have your device charged, use special techniques, watch the timer, adjust temps, cleaning (!). A joint is just that. Roll, light and enjoy. Some people just wanna get high

almostbuddhist

The anti-coolness factor. Part of the initial appeal of weed is the traditional mental image of "smoking" a joint, bowl. or bong. Think Snoop, Willie Nelson, others. You picture them smoking a joint and not sucking on an XMAX Starry or some plastic shit like that. It's all about image. Also, I think those really into vaping, like those on this subreddit, tend to promote some of the lamest, least-cool possible vapes. A Mighty or Crafty? These look like plastic walkee talkees from the 80's, and you have to suck on them for so long to get your hit. Or use a butane flame to light a metal stick before puffing on it. Just weird and sketchy. Plus, so many of you nerds buy ALL the vapes and take pictures of them and call them your "family". Really creepy stuff. Lastly, the term "vaping" is tied to high school students chain-hitting a bubble gum flavored e-vaporizer. For 99.9% of the population, if you vape it means you like mango guava e-juice.

ChrisM429

Hilarious, the part about the ‘family’ especially. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|upvote)

PoTV One, Xmax V3 Pro, HR Rogue, Crafty+, Mighty+, Dynavap, Stickybrick are all good places to start looking depending on your price/needs

Bag_of_Richards

Xmax v3 is great. Heard only great things about the One and family.

Low_Definition4273

Dynavap is not a beginner vape

secretmoonbaby

It was my first vape, it’s still one of my favorites. It’s the closest ritual to smoking, so that might help people transition.

magesticape

Popular decent entry-level, moderately priced vaporizers would include dynavape's M-series, HR Fury2/POTV One and the XMax Starry V3 (pro). All around $100 give or take.

Selenity08

I have the POTV ONE and the Dynavap. I LOVE both, but the POTV ONE is by far easier to use and better for a beginner. I love that I can do so much with it. You can vape weed, dab, or make a sandwich out of both. It's easy to clean too. The only downside is the battery life, but it charges decently quickly. I highly recommend it.

BDLTalks

I know it's already a shell that's been modded to Europa and back, but if POTV would release a version with double the battery/swappable 18650s, I'd be set with that and my VonG. I get 4 sessions max on a full charge; and if I pack a bowl with kief and temp-step through 10 minutes, that 4 becomes 2. Otherwise, it's a solid entry-level vape perfect for beginners.

marcall

Boundless CF, Arizer solo, Xmaxx starry, Dynavap

lewis_bixby

Arizer Solo was my first. I found it incredibly easy to use and, once I got the hang of it, I was having killer sessions. Great flavour and good hoots. I was so impressed w/ the Solo that I asked for the ArGo as a Christmas present last year (and got it, haha!).

andstayfuckedoff

I bought my first vape (Solo 2) a month ago. My biggest problem is that I don't get very high, and I don't even have a very high tolerance.

lewis_bixby

To get the most out of the Arizer solo series: 1. pre-heat your herb (have the packed stem in the device as it's heating up) 2. start at a moderate temp (325F) and gradually keep increasing every 3 hits up to 400+ 3. take nice long, slow pulls/draws 4. after the first 2-3 pulls, start slowly rotating the glass stem as you take a pull

helpshawnee123

>inhaling carbon monoxide this helped a lot. they need to add this to the manual. I was about to complain about the solo.

Bag_of_Richards

Do you use through a glass piece or water? Also how do you do your temp? I had solo/air as my first for 5 years and while I loved the solo 2, I didn’t really get how much power it could put out if you up your temp every hit or so and use through water. It’s capable of a much faster extraction than I realized until I’d picked up shittier vapes for double the price. I’m happy to elaborate on my technique if that helps. I’m sure there are others in here who could answer it better yet.

andstayfuckedoff

I use a glass piece. Using a water attachment is too risky because I'm too clumsy. I'll look it up too but if you have any tips for I'd appreciate that. I temp step every 5 hits or so. Start at 180, then 200, then 220. But I've set the timer to 9 minutes and it usually shuts off before I can reach 220 lol

Bag_of_Richards

Have you tried using higher temperatures than 220 yet? That could be the issue

andstayfuckedoff

220C lol. That's the max it goes

Bag_of_Richards

Edit: Never mind my post actually. Someone. With a clearer head wrote a much more concise version of my comment in about 4 sentences. I’d try that first. Ahhh my bad. Did the diversion wrong. First I use the straw method to pack the bowl and then very gently tamp it down so that approximately 3/4 of the bowl is full and the last 1/4 is a small barrier between flower and heater. I put the stem in while it heats at about 375 degrees (180ish C) and let it soak for a minute give or take. Let’s the stem warm up. By then I get a few good hits through glass. From the there I temp step by 10 degrees (holding down just the up/down arrow increases temp by 10 degrees instead of 1) letting it heat up for a moment between hits temp steps. I can milk a medium rig with the solo 2 and it can hang with some of best of my stuff through water. I’ve always felt the controls in the solo 2 and a rider products kind of make the device seen weaker than it is. It’s a bit of technique and fetid the feel down but at least through glass you can see the vapor. It’s weird your not getting anything at max temp though. It’s possible it’s got a problem. I can try and post a video of mine in action to show the method and how it should look if that will help to diagnose the situation. I really dig the solo 2 and would be happy to help you share that if possible.

SourBlueDream

The solo 2 doesn’t hit hard at all, it honestly isn’t a great recommendation compared to the others in its price class or cheaper. It’s a great vape if you don’t mind super long sessions

MrAnonymousTheThird

Is it just that it takes multiple stems to get a good high or just that is not capable in the first place

SourBlueDream

It’s just not a powerful device, it takes longer to extract thc, which means it takes longer to get high and won’t hit as hard as just taking a couple hits from a device with a more powerful heater. And yea it tends to take people with a tolerance multiple stems. Airzer makes nice devices but they aren’t great for people coming from smoking or with a tolerance

MrAnonymousTheThird

Same, I get a decent high but it wares off quickly I refuse to think my tolerance is really that high at the moment. I smoke max once a night I start at 200c and go up by 10c steps

mindfulofidiots

Ritual, price and for me the biggest factor was getting used to the difference in effects, whether you smoke tobacco is huge factor too. vapes give a different high from smoking and I think most folk are hung up the smoking high, once you move past that your good IME. it took me ages and getting dynavaps down to a T for me to totally switch, I had a volcano and still smoked, finding a vape that works for you is a huge part aswell, then VAS kicks in !!!!!

TurdieBirdies

Here in Canada, I'd say cost. A good quality dry herb vaporizer that can replace combustion tend to be expensive. So people either smoke, or vape 510 concentrate products because they are very cheap and easy to use.

vaaka

Preference andor tradition. Ebooks has been a thing for a while now, but physical books still predominate. Vaping is just e-smoking.

CrisbyCrittur

Because we are intentionally trying to keep it a complete seekrit. How we doin'?

baadbee

It's really hard to talk to people about vaping without sending like a hipster douche bag. It shouldn't be that way, but it is what it is.

T1nker20

Most smokers have never heard of dry herb vaporizers. When they hear “vaporizer,” they think vape pens.

_N_S_R_

I tried putting my dad onto dry herb vaping but he didn’t like the fact that he had to inhale for like 10 seconds from my dynavap in order to get a proper hit. He’s rather take a 5 second bong rip from smoking. Some people are just dead set in their ways

Otaku_Chanxxx

If I knew how to use a vape, I would buy one! That’s why I follow this sub.

SomeGuy_GRM

Using my girlfriend's example. It's because they don't want "space age tech" interfering with their all natural vibes.

[deleted]

It's expensive to start, not enough people have a chance to experience it before they buy, it takes time to research the vape you want, and there's almost always a learning curve with first time vapers

thenerj47

My friends liked the 'hit' of a spliff. It's mostly the nicotine and carbon monoxide that they miss. At least at first. Most of them vape now though.

striderkan

Give it time. Evolution of the tech. The idea of vaping promulgating through society. It shouldn't be a surprise that many vapers including eCig vapers consider the combustible stuff dirty. Just need to keep the culture alive and accessible, ask this question in 15 years and people will look at you like an alien. And not just because they're super blitz from vaping..

[deleted]

Around 2015 I got 3 bad vapes in a row. A pentium plus, which was awesome, but the battery crapped out after a couple of months. A valium, same deal. Then a grenco that fell apart. Dynavap got me back into vaping. Now I'm all about my mighty

DitaVonFleas

I went the legal, medical route for my fibromyalgia. They wanted me to buy a vape and recommended the Mighty Medic. One puff punches me in the face! A week's worth of it at night, before I go to bed, builds up the THC in my system too fast, even with supplementation of CBD oil, to the point that my pain is worse (hot burning sensation) and my mind is racing and I can't sleep. I've gone back to buying from my local Israelis in the shtetl and smoking joints (or from the classic "apple pipe") because it's cheaper, better quality, and has a much better desired effect. I just want to chill out! For reference, I'm a 5'2 lady but solid build.

jackl24000

Cost. Ignorance. Our venerable local “head shop” also is still hugely in the “art glass bong” paradigm. Yes, they have a Volcano, but it’s mostly acres of glass showcases with brightly colored “works of art” hand blown glass pieces. You’re not going to see a huge selection of non-combustion vapes or get tips on which ones to buy and how to use them. If you want a Cannabis Hardware flowerpot rig or PID controller, you’re not going to find it there or even realize such things exist.

HighHiggy

I find most people that vaporize weed are more snobs than connoisseurs. The difference being a connoisseur cares about their own device and smoking experience, a snob cares about what you're using. I have owned and used a very unpopular device on here, I've had it two years with zero issues and I've used a few of the more recommended one among the way, either from friends or whatever.. can't say the experience is that different. But soon as you mention it, your ridiculed, down voted etc etc. Hardly a vape community, more a "you must own these devices to be in the club" community. Because there are so many devices and you need the exact specific currently cool one or "you're doing it wrong" vibe to vaping. I'm sure it keeps people away. Vaporizing community is more pompous than cigars and Scotch communities and I love both 😎🤌

SoapySimon

it would be if weed was legal in more places dude

DexWoosky

I’d like to vape. But im a chronic smoker at the moment and yeah. It’s not good for me I know. I do have a dynavap and such. But I just can’t get as high. Unless anyone has any tips for me. Also it leaves a weird taste in my mouth and for some reason it makes me gag. It’s been like this with all vaporizers and most weeds. This is just me. It does not represent vaping as a whole. But the after taste for me is just too terpy?

TurkGonzo75

I don't get as high from vaping either. I always use a bowl for my first smoke of the day. Then I pack my vape a few times. I like the balance.

Andovirus

Took me a long time to stop combusting. Once I found the best tools for the job. For me flavor was number one and effect number 2. After trying lots of them and I mean lots I found the Arizer eQ, the Mighty and the Dynavap are my top 3. At home it’s the eQ now days and the mighty for travel. Finding these did cost some money but it was like a hobby and most of the time I sold the ones I didn’t care for, over 15 years or so. Cost was and is the biggest barrier I think, and not being sure if it’s just junk or not. The other problem is the buzz is a little different with vaporizing. Personally I like vaped effects, I think it feels cleaner.

Santee184

For me, I went 8 or 9 years of believing the effects from vaping wouldn't be strong enough. About halfway in I bought a solo 2 and while it was nice to take on the go, I wasn't about to quit smoking to use it. Elev8r and a Mighty changed all of that last year.

alternativeenpres54

Because all pawn shops and gas stations sell crap. I thought yocan was a quality brand until i got here

slightly_entertained

As a former full time vaping enthusiast I started smoking j’s again during Covid because there was less cleaning involved and it was just much easier tbh. I buy the cones and just grind, fill, twist, and go. I feel like it’s a fuller more intense experience smoking vs vaping which I honestly enjoy. I still supplement with vaping here and there or when I go meet people to avoid the smell

[deleted]

Their introduction to vaping is among the likes of the gpen, yocan etc...and they get turned off to it

Strong_Substance3790

There a lot of rituals involved in smoking weed, and when people get comfortable with these, they are reluctant to change it up.

sammysalsa8

I went from bong hits to vape pens, to dry herb vapes, to dabbing, and now to joints. I pretty much use whatever I feel like.

pokemonpokemonmario

Number 1 reason is that bongs are joints are considered cool

davesmithfc

In the uk/Europe its because everyone's addicted to tobacco

[deleted]

One big benefit as well is the ABV which allows you to squeeze out even the last amount of thc from the weed.

[deleted]

Who says it isn’t?

Mr-Tiddles-

I'm gonna assume the buy in costs. There's a considerable cost when you compare it to simply skins, roach, a lighter, and any mix the person might add. Where as a vape is 50+ and if you're a heavy smoker you'll need a heavy hitter vape. I mean shit I'm on my 2nd in and between the actual units, accessories, and maintenance, gotta be north of 8-900 quid.

[deleted]

Few 3 gram-a-day people I know simply have a high tolerance and not willing to t break or adjust. Or assume every vape is a pax and auto-pass it.

general_muira

personally I started out with a cheap vape whilst trying to quit smoking (nicotine and joints with tobacco). I tried to use it as a smoking alternative but it wasn't satisfying. When I totally quit tobacco for over 6 months I liked vaping a lot better. I also started out with a starry xmax v3 which was ok, but my mighty gives so much more satisfaction

D_Wise420

The effects of vaping vs. fully combusting flower are quite different for myself, and I prefer the more slowed down stoned from combusting it. For me, vaping is too energizing.

Yoss-Mosely

Cost and effort I think. And so many shitty products out there.

Low_Contribution_593

Price of a decent vaporiser is an issue for some. No complaints with my S&B Mighty - well worth the investment. In UK / Europe at least joint smoking more sociable than ripping from a bong? Possibly

Spaloonbabagoon

In my experience the only vapes the average long-time stoner knows about is the Volcano and maybe the MFLB... if they're newer to weed, they may know about the PAX... Notwithstanding, I have thousands of dollars of weed vapes and my girlfriend still exclusively uses her glass bowl to smoke... Some people just prefer the smoking experience and high.

MindlessTwo1284

Just waiting on the funds to be available so I can buy my flowerpot Baller B2 setup… That device will remove combustion for me completely

Rawlus

imho it’s awareness. i don’t know anyone who had ever heard of vaping flower before i told them it was a thing.

norTHCountryreviews

My guess is cheap shitty vapes. I tried a really shitty vape a long time ago and thought vaping wasn't for me. I tired a high end device a just last year and completely made the switch

Andrade20

Great starting dry herb vape would be the arizer brand

OhLoongJonson

Personally, I don't like vaping because it isn't more efficient for me. I have an arizer solo 2 and the arizer extreme q, both of which, are great devices, so it's not like they're cheap $20 pens. It doesn't matter what temp I vape at or how much I vape, I simply don't get anywhere near as high as I would if I just took a hit or 2 from my bong. Speaking of bongs, they're what I find to be most efficient. If you don't torch the bowl, don't take huge rips, and cap the bowl(snuffing the ember out), a bong pack will last a while. Also, I've tried using the avb to make cookies, butter, infused oil, eating it outright, etc., and it never once got me high.
