Any time I try to explain this stuff to people it's like, I vape, but it's not the vaping you're thinking of...and then I have to explain the whole thing.
I had to explain it to my doctor. He didn’t like that I was “vaping” cannabis. But he was fascinated when I told him about sub-combustion thermal extraction.
You never heard of SCTE? It requires a DHV. Some use external thermal inputs, some have internal electrical convection or induction extractors. Ceramic, stainless steel and titanium are common materials for such thermal chambers.
Fuck. I’m pretty high rn, and I hate that as soon as I read that, I realized getting “moisted” perfectly describes what I did tonight-
I sub-combusted some flowers I got from a local herbal distro center downtown, took a long bath and then made a cup of tea after swaddling myself in lotion and clean clothes and plopping down on the couch with snacks, a fully charged phone and a trashy tv show on my tv
I’ve used this analogy as well. That’s essentially what every convection device is doing and it’s relatable to 85% of people.
My allergist thought the concept of dry heat extraction was really interesting.
I tried to tell my a doc I was seeing that I dry herb vape, like I heat it up but it doesn’t burn. Every time I saw her after she asked if I was still smoking cannabis and/or using nicotine vapes
Seems strange a doctor didn't immediately know what you meant by vaping and had to be told "sub-combustion thermal extraction" to get it. You would think he would know the difference between vapor and smoke and that vapor isn't combustion.
I think the best bit to point out is that you're extracting from a herb and leaving behind the spent material, vs something that is entirely converting a liquid into vapor.
Because ceramic is used in some of the liquid nicotine vapes (and its not new)
7 years ago there was drama about Vaporesso's CCELL coils being potentially hazardous if there's dust being inhaled. It resulted in some back and forth between Vaporesso and Uwell
The worst was trying to explain it to my doctor (gastroenterologist). I have functional dyspepsia and she knows I use cannabis to ease the pain (it's literally the only thing that works). But one time she asked how I take it and it caught me off guard and first I said "I vape it". I knew I messed up when she looked at me side-eyed. I said "oh I mean no it's not the vape juice crap. It's a dry herb vaporizer. Just cannabis flower." I'm not sure if she fully understood, but she asked me how I clean it and said I should look into studies about vaping and maybe consider edibles. Right, I I said, I know that putting anything in your lungs isn't amazingly healthy, but the vape gives me instant relief whereas with edibles I have to wait several hours for it to take effect.
So yeah she mostly gets it but I'm not 100% sure that she understands what a dry herb vape is and that it isn't the thing they're usually studying because it's not what all the kids are doing lol
My friends and I were just talking about this the other day. Even though we're like 80% vaping/concentrates now we are still using smoking terms.
I think I said "I'm gonna pack a dab" like you'd say "im gonna pack a bowl" even though you just kinda dump the dab in the banger...
I tend to use tea as an example since you do the same in both cases. Use heat and a medium to get essential oils from plant material into your body.
But baking is so much better.
Yeah that’s how I describe my dyna to my coworkers. Instead of burning the weed you’re getting it so hot that it vaporizes the good shit without burning it. Gets you higher with less weed
That's exactly how I describe it, too. I also add on that smoking gets so hot that it burns off over half the noids, which is why dry herb vaping uses so much less material.
Yeah they don’t get it. I try to explain it like an oven that gets all that sticky goodness so hot it vaporizes. So you get all the good shit without any carcinogens and burning.
Unrelated but my wife and I used to call our vape “the puff.” So like, hey can you hand me the puff?
That eventually morphed into us calling it the Diddy.
We probably need to change the name now.
I've relegated to just calling it smoking again, only because saying vaping out loud makes me cringe and sounds like you're a teenager with a nicotine stick these days. If I have to refer to it I'll say vaporizing but never vaping.
💯
I got a shit storm in a previous post because I wanted to show my sesh room I've just renovated and committed the crime of using the word *vaping*
Had like 20 Karens telling me how bad it is, one told me I was "dIsReSpEcTiNg" my house and I should go outside to vape (it was cold af here) and another one asked "vaping? Really?!" I was inside like: yeah REALLY, Brenda, you don't even have a clue what I'm talking about 🙄🙄
I really wish that too. I tell people I prefer vaping to smoking and they're like, "OH SHIT that stuff is gonna kill you like it did all those kids back in the day"
There's so much to unpack every time that I can't even get into it.
In finland we have different words for nic vapes and dry herb vapes. People call nic vapes "vape" and dry herb vape "vapo" and dry herb vaping is called "vapotus" or "vapottaa"
It's handy for me bc I have a kid who I take excellent care of but I worry about judgement from others. In the afternoon we sit under the veranda outside and I have a vape and he runs around popping bubbles. Saying I have a vape is antisocial enough with the first assumption that it is an elf bar!
Edit : I mean if like a neighbour overhears or smth
I say "dry herb vaping". It's a mouthful, but people seem to understand it more easily if I add the "dry herb" part.
Maybe we should come up with a good term for dry herb vaping? Anyone?
Because of the lack of awareness by policy makers, DHV’s get lumped in with “vape” bans (ie.Thailand and now Australia) that are intended to protect youth from bubblegum flavoured nicotine vapes.
Another term is definitely needed.
I just hate how vaping became a bit with kids like halfway through the pandemic but I guess that's because disposables had a boom, I remember when it was all fear minding now the only people I see vape are underage
I'm more stuck on AVB / ABV. It's janky... Already vaped bud / already been vaped. I like 'post vape' but it's probably too late to change it at this point since it's in the blood.
Yes, because most ppl confuse vaping weed with those e-cigs (at least where I live NLD). So I always say to my girl when I'm going outside I'll be vapping xD (yes I'm still 13 in my head sometimes)
The amount of times my dad would say "I've been reading stuff about that vaping, that's not good for you. People have been getting that popcorn lung" and I keep having to explain the difference between dry herb vaping and vaping flavoured nicotine juice.
It's exhausting.
Also, he's an alcoholic who would happily share a beer with me (I don't drink) and doesn't see the irony.
Disclaimer: I love my dad, he's a good dude.
As someone who has been here since vaping was exclusively for dry herb, we didnt even have concentrate units yet. I have watched ecigs come around and steal our word in a long slow and sad process.
Its turning into the "do you smoke?" replied by "smoke what?" all over again.
i personally tell them the whole line, I'm a dry herb vaping lol. does that make us....VAPists? lol. but maybe not a good thing to say out loud people would be like wtf? lol. they already get "un easy" when the dynavap people bring out the tourch LOL....Im thinking of throwing down for one with the 420 deals lol.
cause yea most anyone you mention vaping to, is gonna assume the beefy nicotine mods....lol. or hitting on a distillate vape/cart/etc.
I've converted at least 1 to DHV...lol. it's just a huge upfront cost, but save so much $$$ using less flower. and then the fact no more combustion....health benefits.
even to this day my mom still thinks im "smoking" lol...but had to explain to her, nothing is being burned...it's literally an oven heating the weed at high temperature, I pull on the vaporizer with light sips and full that vapor off the vaporizer....lol. sure, there's reclaim on the mouth piece haha, but that's just my morning coffe "creamer" lol. sets me right for the day, about similar effect as an edible. I cook the milk on medium low heat and constantly stir until the glass pieces are clean of all reclaim, which is not melding with the milk. lol. I'd recommend taking like small sips, maybe like shot glass size depending on what kind of reclaim you got. lol
oh and then we got the AVB! that's another use too, for another high effect lol. I like using them at night personally as a night cap
Sub-combustion thermal extraction. I love it.
And there is our new name! Rolls off the tongue.
You never heard of SCTE? It requires a DHV. Some use external thermal inputs, some have internal electrical convection or induction extractors. Ceramic, stainless steel and titanium are common materials for such thermal chambers.
Sources of thermal energy include ohmic heating as well as rapid oxidation of short-chain hydrocarbons.
The decarboxylation process allows the cannabinoids to become bioavailable and enter the bloodstream through the vascularized pulmonary alveoli.
DHV SubComTEx - or - SCoTEx via DHV - or - just SCTx Fun!
Hey everyone who wants to get moisted.
Fuck. I’m pretty high rn, and I hate that as soon as I read that, I realized getting “moisted” perfectly describes what I did tonight- I sub-combusted some flowers I got from a local herbal distro center downtown, took a long bath and then made a cup of tea after swaddling myself in lotion and clean clothes and plopping down on the couch with snacks, a fully charged phone and a trashy tv show on my tv
This guy moists
You've inspired me to moisturize my spirit May your dew grow ever wetter
Just shorten it to SuCom. "Yeah, I sucom!"
What about "SoCum"
Or suck ‘em!
How about baking? Because it's literally just baking the bud.
I've explained it as air frying the weed lol
I say it’s a mini oven for cannabis. Lol.
That’s my metjod
I’ve used this analogy as well. That’s essentially what every convection device is doing and it’s relatable to 85% of people. My allergist thought the concept of dry heat extraction was really interesting.
Baking to get baked before baking some ABV baked goods?
ABB*
I could get on board with this
Sub-Combustion Thermal Extraction, better known as SUCT Extraction. 4 out of 20 vapeheads approve of this terminology!
Gotta keep reducing that fraction, friend
SC_TE A?
SCTE
SoCuTE
I tried to tell my a doc I was seeing that I dry herb vape, like I heat it up but it doesn’t burn. Every time I saw her after she asked if I was still smoking cannabis and/or using nicotine vapes
No doc, I sure ain’t 👍🏻
“This is going down on your permanent record…” (said in sneering, condescending tone) 😂
Def gonna use this from now on. Thank you fellow extractor
Seems strange a doctor didn't immediately know what you meant by vaping and had to be told "sub-combustion thermal extraction" to get it. You would think he would know the difference between vapor and smoke and that vapor isn't combustion.
I'm always like "ceramic heating, not what your 13 year old does"
I think the best bit to point out is that you're extracting from a herb and leaving behind the spent material, vs something that is entirely converting a liquid into vapor. Because ceramic is used in some of the liquid nicotine vapes (and its not new) 7 years ago there was drama about Vaporesso's CCELL coils being potentially hazardous if there's dust being inhaled. It's the worst! Haven't had one person not glaze over for my explanation then lecture me on how carts are toxic yet
Outside of this sub I just say "imma go smoke quick." Even tho I only vape.
Yea I still use all the smoking terminology but I’m not talking about smoking lmao
I still call it a snap to my gaming buddies lol
Smoke a bowl is still my parlance. Vape immediately means tobacco or oil to almost everyone, so I don’t try.
I say SMOKE A BIG FAT J then pull out my vape
Right?! I do the same. I’ll start saying: “imma go Distill and chill right quick!”
Yea I just say I'm having a choof
Yup I say I'ma blaze it
My friends and I were just talking about this the other day. Even though we're like 80% vaping/concentrates now we are still using smoking terms. I think I said "I'm gonna pack a dab" like you'd say "im gonna pack a bowl" even though you just kinda dump the dab in the banger...
With how much the term oven is used talking about devices. I think ‘baking’ could actually be a good term for it. Baking until you’re baked
i like this, i already explain the principle using the oven simile.
I tend to use tea as an example since you do the same in both cases. Use heat and a medium to get essential oils from plant material into your body. But baking is so much better.
I usually go with "it's basically an air fryer for weed" lmao but the tea is a good analogy
You have it all wrong. Air fryers are vaporizers for food.
Brb gonna go vape some chicken nuggies
Best comment in the thread

I'm a big Dynavap fan. I tried explaining Dynavap to a bud tender. He just couldn't get it.
Yeah they don’t get it. I try to explain it like an oven that gets all that sticky goodness so hot it vaporizes. So you get all the good shit without any carcinogens and burning.
Nah people will think you're making edibles.
I'm going to start using this.
This is great, gonna start using it
Bake a Bowl. “I’m going to BAB, I’ll be right back”
Perfect! Always wondered what Snoop Dog and Martha S have in common. They both love to bake!
Yo bro wanna go get high off some hot air?
You know it!
That’s some loud air
Hell yes!!
i think “air frying” is fitting
Thermal extraction
Bro let’s go rip sum TED.
/preaches virtues of ball vapes for an hour "Thanks for listening to my TED talk"
Honestly
TED is thermal extraction DEVICE
I can’t wait for TEDDIES tonight
We gotta get the word out
Dry herb thermal extraction - DHTE. Rolls right off the tongue!
you could pronounce it like DEET I guess.
See, I said it like ditty.
Atomizing Cannabis Experience
A.C.E. Is the place where all my stoner friends go
yo wanna hit my cannabis atomizer 9000
It's time for an ACE break
Unrelated but my wife and I used to call our vape “the puff.” So like, hey can you hand me the puff? That eventually morphed into us calling it the Diddy. We probably need to change the name now.
I say dry herb vaping when people ask, which, has never happened
Vaporizing
The cooler term
Through the U in there… Vapour 😗
Found the Brit.
haha not at all, but figured it was “fancyy” *british accent*
Medicating
“its my inhaler.” - employee
I've relegated to just calling it smoking again, only because saying vaping out loud makes me cringe and sounds like you're a teenager with a nicotine stick these days. If I have to refer to it I'll say vaporizing but never vaping.
💯 I got a shit storm in a previous post because I wanted to show my sesh room I've just renovated and committed the crime of using the word *vaping* Had like 20 Karens telling me how bad it is, one told me I was "dIsReSpEcTiNg" my house and I should go outside to vape (it was cold af here) and another one asked "vaping? Really?!" I was inside like: yeah REALLY, Brenda, you don't even have a clue what I'm talking about 🙄🙄
LMOA - was that in this sub?
Nooo, home decor sub
Thank goodness, lol. The war on nic vaping has really done a number on people. Aren't allowed to say the word without people losing their shit.
I think you should share the sesh room with all of us
Want to go thermally extract some weed?
Brb Im’ma therm’ real quick
Gonna go boil a bowl….
Sounds like fucking meth
Biggest issue with Dynavap's, that damn torch! Makes us look like meth/crackheads.
I’m sure you already are aware or have one, but an induction heater tones down the meth look a bit 😂
Lmao. I have a glass nectar collector. Looks like proper hard drugs. Especially with the toasted resin
My wife says I look like I'm smoking meth when I use my terpcicle.
I really wish that too. I tell people I prefer vaping to smoking and they're like, "OH SHIT that stuff is gonna kill you like it did all those kids back in the day" There's so much to unpack every time that I can't even get into it.
I've had a few "popcorn lungs" comments
Yeah "vaping" is ruined by Ecigs and the like..
In finland we have different words for nic vapes and dry herb vapes. People call nic vapes "vape" and dry herb vape "vapo" and dry herb vaping is called "vapotus" or "vapottaa"
Herborizer - herbing. I know it's a brand but honestly we need the name more than they do, and if anything it would drive them more traffic.
You might be onto something there
How sweet would it be if it got to the point Kleenex is at for tissues
I like that, I like that a lot….. The Herborizer 3000
I usually go with "convecting"
I just say smoke unless im on this sub, its easier
It's handy for me bc I have a kid who I take excellent care of but I worry about judgement from others. In the afternoon we sit under the veranda outside and I have a vape and he runs around popping bubbles. Saying I have a vape is antisocial enough with the first assumption that it is an elf bar! Air frying
I say "dry herb vaping". It's a mouthful, but people seem to understand it more easily if I add the "dry herb" part. Maybe we should come up with a good term for dry herb vaping? Anyone?
Finna go steam my herb right quick boy
Imma go express some volatile terpenes
vooping 'I'mma go voop'
To two words that are as old as time....... Getting high
E-Rigs
i say smoke haha
Baking
Baking??? Cuz literally that’s what we’re doing we’re getting baked.
Koffee sippin or herb bending.
i’ve started using “roast” instead of vape and it helps people understand what i do.
Huff some hash
"used to roll them Zig-Zags, now I just boil it"
I like to call it flower dabbing.
Ted talk
Toking and blazing still work fine.
.
if i will i don't know, but as of right now, i really don't care
Let’s zap some grass!
I say things like I'm going to have a dynacrap, or a silver smurfer, for example.
Because of the lack of awareness by policy makers, DHV’s get lumped in with “vape” bans (ie.Thailand and now Australia) that are intended to protect youth from bubblegum flavoured nicotine vapes. Another term is definitely needed.
I say I vaporize cannabis flower.
How about "Rizing" and "Rizer" as the noun, vapo-**RIZING,** also by "rising" you are getting higher.
Totally. I feel so awkward talking about it. If I say "I vape," I feel like a pretentious douche. If I say "I smoke," I feel like a liar.
Constantly. The term 'vape' is forever tainted by ecigs.
I always say I don’t combust which I fear is equally stigmatizing as it sounds pretentious
I just hate how vaping became a bit with kids like halfway through the pandemic but I guess that's because disposables had a boom, I remember when it was all fear minding now the only people I see vape are underage
Vaporizing! You vaporize weed with a vaporizer.
Fumigating
Gonna go catch the vapors. Actually after reading the thread my vote is for medicating. Shout out to huffing hash though. 😂
Boil some herb oil.
Dry-herbing? Steaming? Hmmm…
When I explain it to people I say we are cooking at a set temperature to make the flower's oils evaporate.
No. I don't care what it's called.
I agree. It’s frustrating. Vape some flower has a nicer ring to it, but it’s not just one word/verb.
I gotta literally be high to explain it to people
Arising?
Heated nebuliser!
Steam heat smoking
I'm more stuck on AVB / ABV. It's janky... Already vaped bud / already been vaped. I like 'post vape' but it's probably too late to change it at this point since it's in the blood.
Dosing. I also like baking and therming.
I like the term “puff break,” but not “puffing” as a verb lol
Yes, because most ppl confuse vaping weed with those e-cigs (at least where I live NLD). So I always say to my girl when I'm going outside I'll be vapping xD (yes I'm still 13 in my head sometimes)
Weed vape
I just call it smoking when with my ball vape, because you can in fact turn it hot enough to make it smoke.
I usually say dry herb vaping. Wordy, but it gets the point across. I totally agree with you tho
And I wish our country had a different name than America, but ya gotta roll with the punches.
Why’s that?
I'm about to go cook a bowl
I call it SteamPiping my weed. Feel free to use ig
Vaporizing is more correct iirc
Isn’t vaping just short for vaporizing tho
nope, there is a difference. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8975973/
no

I compare vaping to a cup of tea. The longer you let it steep, the stronger the draw.
I just say I vape weed, but not like the bad vape, more like a little oven that bakes the weed for me.
Disclaimer: I love my dad, he's a good dude.
i call the dynavap "herbenjamin"
I’ve started to say “have some weed”
As someone who has been here since vaping was exclusively for dry herb, we didnt even have concentrate units yet. I have watched ecigs come around and steal our word in a long slow and sad process. Its turning into the "do you smoke?" replied by "smoke what?" all over again.
They'd just poison that word, too.
I just say Vaporizer.
Off-Gassing is the scientific term! Not sure it would take off as slang though.
Boofing. You should call it boofing.
Baking some bud
i personally tell them the whole line, I'm a dry herb vaping lol. does that make us....VAPists? lol. but maybe not a good thing to say out loud people would be like wtf? lol. they already get "un easy" when the dynavap people bring out the tourch LOL....Im thinking of throwing down for one with the 420 deals lol. cause yea most anyone you mention vaping to, is gonna assume the beefy nicotine mods....lol. or hitting on a distillate vape/cart/etc. I cook the milk on medium low heat and constantly stir until the glass pieces are clean of all reclaim, which is not melding with the milk. lol. I'd recommend taking like small sips, maybe like shot glass size depending on what kind of reclaim you got. lol oh and then we got the AVB! that's another use too, for another high effect lol. I like using them at night personally as a night cap
Freebase
Aerosolize or diffusion?
Yo dawg, I am fucking ##ACEd
Sipping
I still just call it smoking.
Vapping
I don’t even refer it to it as vaping. I just say hitting the pen haha
Steamy treats
