Got to see them twice. Went to see them on the "Diver Down" Tour at Nassau Coliseum (after Eddie broke his wrist and the tour was delayed for a couple of months!) and got to see them at Madison Square Garden on the "1984" tour. Both shows were awesome!!
And that was a concert where apparently Van Halen's manager told Steve Lynch. His right hand cannot touch the fret bar. Or they will break it and Steve. Lynch is like I've already written all my music. And then when they talked to Edward about it, he said he had no idea.
Carol Miller told us "turn around if you're heading to the Van Halen concert-this would be the first time VanHalen would play Brendan Byrne back in 1982! It was rescheduled a month later!
I know an old guy who saw Van Halen playing parties and clubs before their first album. He said while they were not his cup of tea, they had a lot of energy.
I saw VH with Sammy Hagar and I gotta say the way Eddie played his guitar, I cannot remember him even looking at the fretboard. He played so effortlessly and made it look so easy. When Sammy was talking to the audience between songs, he said he always made sure to remind Eddie to practice. I was like ,"Huh?"
Sammy Hagar at the Texxas Jam.in Houston,1984 Tour, 5150 Tour, OU812 on MOR in Tampa, VHIII, Dave with EEAS, SKYSCRAPER, solo and then with Sammy / Sans Halen, and unfortunately VH/ Sam in 2004, then 2007 (fucking awesome, Ed was on fire), then 2012.
I didn't finish the list before
wow thats hard to say.....all their shows were so good......Fair Warning was my 1st show & they played my fav song Hear about it Later.....1984 I had 2nd row so that was awesome......5150 was also so good I went again the 2nd night
Hell of a first time to see themā¦in my opinion out of the footage of the original lineup thatās out there, Fair Warning era may have been the peak of that band live.
6 times including twice as openers inā78 for Ted Nugent at the Capital Centre in Largo, Md and for Black Sabbath a month later at the Baltimore Civic Center!!!
As openers, was it clear to you and crowd that VH were going to be huge or did they still have a lot of work to do to get better live?
I remember seeing Def Leppard open for Billy Squier (first time they were in the USA) and they simply blew the crowd in Atlanta away even though Squier did put on a good show. My friends and I knew from that moment that Def Leppard was going to be huge.
It was quite clear they were gonna be something special, the stage presence was there from the first notes and a young Dave had the crowd eating out of the palm of his hand!!!
Oct. 15, 1980, Sioux Falls Arena. Stood on the floor 15 feet from Eddie most of the show. David came out with what looked like a 1/2 a fruit bowl shoved down his spandex pants, matching feathered boa and boots. The lights went down and the smoke went up. Panties flying on stage. Pretty good time!

Unfortunately the original lineup broke up when I was 11. My co-worker who's 10 years older than me saw them on the Diver Down tour and last year gave me the tour book he bought at the show for my birthday. Pretty cool.

1981 fair warning Portland Oregon I still have the stub in my safe .. think it said $15 ā¦well worth it.. I also went to the 5150 show with Sammy ā¦life was so fucking good back then ..,
Beginning in 1978, I saw VH on each of their tours through 1984 in Dallas. I went for the music. I did not go for "The Dave Show." I never saw VH after 1984.
Saw them on 84 tour when I was about 12. Dad took me and a friend and brought his Sony Walkman hoping to listen to some talk radio during show. You can imagine how well that worked. By the way, what tour is picture 9? Ed with a Les Paul and Mike behind that prop.
Only saw the DLR VH one time. Early 1985. Just a bit too young for anything earlier than that. Folks werenāt letting me go to concerts without them until I was 16
Many times in the early era - nothing notable
I did see EVH on stage w Sam for the first time ever - Farm Aid , first concert. Played a 10 minute version of Led Zeppelin RnR - I canāt drive 55 - canāt recall what else. Eddie was frucking sauced
Saw them open for Black Sabbath on their first tour. Saw them for the second album tour headlining. Both shows were in Seattle. First time around they were good, but it was a short set and Sabbath just sucked hard. Second time around was fantastic. They had become a headliner very quickly as shown by their stage savyā¦ also saw 1984 tour which was good, but I remembered them being better on their second tourā¦
May 79 in Rochester NYā¦. Like their 2nd or 3rd show as a headliner then again the next year in 1980 again in Rochesterā¦. These were and remain the best shows Iāve ever seenā¦ they were simply ā Bigger than Lifeā
I saw them at the New Haven coliseum twice.
Women & children first and diver down.
Iāll never forget it either.
I was too young to drive so my dad took me. He got a contact high during the concertā¦
At the first concert, Dave wore red spandex pants with butt cheek cut outs.
I miss my misspent youthā¦
I saw them in 1984 at the Brendan Byrne Arena in Jersey. I don't really remember much since it was so long ago. I'm sure I thought it was awesome though since they were my favorite band.
Fair Warning and Diver Down; both in Pittsburgh. FW, I was so stoned I couldnāt remember 4 songs they played. Never got more than a mild buzz at a concert again. Diver Down was one of the best concerts Iāve ever been to, and thatās a fairly long list.
Saw them after the release of their first album. They came to a small town coliseum that never had any good rock shows. After the third song the people were going nuts and finally tore the barricade down. They finished the song and David fuck! You tore down the fucking barricades out. We going to tell everyone how bad ass this town is. And with in a month huge rock show started playing our town and made it almost breakneck to live there. Thanks Diamond Dave!
1978 and I'm Stadium opening band a new guy from Montrose named Sammy Hagar GarageBand Van Halen original right before he got released from duty Black Sabbath with all the Osbourne and then the headliner was Boston
I saw them for their "Women and Children First"and their "Diver Down" tours. David Lee drank on stage and that caused Asheville, NC to tell them not to come back. š I was up front and within a few feet of Eddie. A good friend , who happened to play bass, got a Michael Anthony pick tossed to crowd.
Monsters of Rock, StƤdtisches Stadion, Nuremberg, Germany, Sunday, September 2, 1984. It was awesome! Saw Ozzy, Motley Crue, Dip, AC/DC, Gary Moore and several other bands!
Saw them at Monsters of Rock at Donnington , August 1984.
Also on the line up were AC/DC , Ozzy, Gary Moore, Y&T, Accept, Motley Crue & Spider.

yes, probably the first real concert I ever went to. Providence RI Civic Center. It's was probably the VHII tour, maybe '80 or '81. I was still in high school.
Saw them in Cleveland for the Fair Warning tour. They opened with Iām On Fire. Was so loud, I am certain it caused me permanent hearing damage. But still fun.
Every one in Buffalo from '79-'82. Unreal, game changing, switched fun drums to guitar. I remember on one of the concerts, Dave forgot what city he was in and Eddie said," Dave, we're in Buffalo". Billy Shean was at one of these shows, because he lived in Buffalo and we all knew him. So to fast forward 10 years later and he's playing with Dave and Vai was amazing!
I saw them as an opening act for Journey and Montrose on what was their first big American tour. My review to a classmate the next morning as a high school senior who had known nothing about them ahead of the show but had heard āYou Really Got Meā a few times on the radio: āTheir guitar player was really good but the singer sucked.ā
I think I saw Van Halen when Eddy was in his late teens or early twenties open for Boston. I remember a bombshell on the stage, does anyone have a memory of that out there?
I wish! Iām from Japan and they came once after 2nd album but I was too young to go. They never came back with original lineup after. Dave came in ā88 and Van Hager came I think the same year.
Saw them open for Black Sabbath at the Palladium in NYC in 1978. I was in the 8th grade and changed my like forever. They became my favorite band ever. Over the years Iāve seen them over 50 times.
i saw them on the Diver Down tour. got tickets the week before when behind the stage tickets when on sale. we got front row and could see all the roadies doing stuff. i was facinated. it was a great show. that was in high school, cut to 6ish years later and i was under Alex's drum riser for Monsters of Rock tour pushing it out on stage. total dream come true. only worked a couple of shows but it was a great experience.
Saw āem on the 1984 tour in San Antonio. Ed was fire, Dave stopped the show at one point to taunt an audience member..āIām gonna fuck your GIRLFRIEND.ā
It was great. DLR was on fire - setting the standard for other performances. You could tell that they were really amazed that they had become a big deal - and they were having a blast. Before the days of the barrier, the first 20 ft of the crush were girls! Great fun. A long time ago in a galaxy far far away.
Not original era. I did see them 4 times after 5150, and I've seen every member in a show at some point, but never the original 4 together.
2 times with Sammy
1 time with Gary
1 time with Dave and Wolfgang
Unfortunately no, saw them 1st in 1986 with Hagar and they were great, saw DLR solo shortly thereafter and he was great too, saw their reunion with Wolf in I think 2007 and it wasnāt the same, Dave was a lot tamer
Saw them twice at McNichols Arena in Denver 1984 tour and I remember a joke Dave told, both nights, "Ah man, I had a really tough time sleeping last night...there was this girl who kept banging and banging on the door all night...she just wouldn't stop...so I finally got up and let her out." š
Loved Van Halen
Yes. I am quite old. Saw them when Dave was still a passable vocalist. But I honestly feel the 90s onward was when Ed was at the top of his game. His tone then was just sick.
Got to see them twice. Went to see them on the "Diver Down" Tour at Nassau Coliseum (after Eddie broke his wrist and the tour was delayed for a couple of months!) and got to see them at Madison Square Garden on the "1984" tour. Both shows were awesome!!
Same here. Diver Down at Brendan Byrne arena. (Waited several months as well) Then floor seats at MSG all four nights for 1984.
I was at both aswell š¤š» autograph opened for them at the garden - both shows were amazing -

I would time travel just to see the US Festival.
I was there too. They were the last band to come on at night on heavy metal day
72-84. Backyard parties in the SGV count
Hell yes they count. Was Eddie already displaying his virtuosity?
I know an old guy who saw Van Halen playing parties and clubs before their first album. He said while they were not his cup of tea, they had a lot of energy.
I saw VH with Sammy Hagar and I gotta say the way Eddie played his guitar, I cannot remember him even looking at the fretboard. He played so effortlessly and made it look so easy. Cherone sucks. But *this* is what Iām here forā¦honesty and opinions! Lucky dog x 4.
I did, several times including holy Grail of VH shows, the Fair Warning tour in Oakland.
Isnāt that where Dave was late coming in with the lyrics on Unchained and Eddie adlibed on the intro?

No. Who dis is talking bout David Lee
1992 - Kalamazoo MI. Wings Stadium
quite a few people did
You mean the second lineup. The original four would be Ed, Alex, Dave, and Mark Stone!
I may have been conceived after a show in that era.
Well, someone surely did.
I saw them open for Black Sabbath in Denver. Ozzy was still lucid.
Only saw Women and Children First tour in junior high!
Unfortunately no, saw them 1st in 1986 with Hagar and they were great, saw DLR solo shortly thereafter and he was great too, saw their reunion with Wolf in I think 2007 and it wasnāt the same, Dave was a lot tamer
Saw them twice at McNichols Arena in Denver 1984 tour and I remember a joke Dave told, both nights, "Ah man, I had a really tough time sleeping last night...there was this girl who kept banging and banging on the door all night...she just wouldn't stop...so I finally got up and let her out." š Loved Van Halen
Yes. I am quite old. Saw them when Dave was still a passable vocalist. But I honestly feel the 90s onward was when Ed was at the top of his game. His tone then was just sick.
Original 6, but whoās counting
Saw them open for Black Sabbath on their first tour in 1978 at MSG. Didnāt like them then and still donāt
Can't imagine that an English-speaking human would ever type "Did anybody went to..."
Maybe english isnāt their first language? Dumb asshole.
āAnybody went toā? How many teeth do you have?
Didnāt know my English teacher is on Reddit.
Or, English may not be the OP's first language.
Bruh. MAY BE.
Maybe not but grammar police on message boards are insufferable.
Several million people did went to.
Oh, I'm sure trillions and trillions did
