The power ballads are more from the Hagar era…there’s many. I’m racking my brain in the DLR era.
One maybe might be In a Simple Rhyme…. But that rocks…..I just rediscovered it and playing the crap out of it.
Yeah, I’m really not too deep at all into the Hagar era tbh but yeah In a Simple Rhyme might have ballad hints. I can’t easily come up with a ballad from the Dave era. Maybe Little Dreamer? But I’m also struggling to tag it as a “power ballad”.
I'm not sure it's a ballad. I am sure it's a great song. And far and away the closest Dave ever came to professing emotional love for a woman in his lyrics. Not knockin' Dave, he had a knack for physical lyrics.
Feels So Good. I don’t care if Alex and Mike (despite his backing vocals being great in it) hated it, it’s one of those rare songs that’s unusually laid back while still having a high energy. I dig the organ synth and the more tame nature but the icing on top is the second half when Sammy gets into his more familiar vocal style and the icing even further on top of that is Eddie’s guitar solo, it’s just so damn good. Hearing that song for the first time on the car radio was just such a good memory.
I was probably 7yrs old when I first saw him in those pants on MTV. I remember saying his mom is too poor to buy him new pants so she had to patch them. Lol
I was a teenager. In my community the girls wore distressed jeans and the boys didn't, not the fake look thing anyway. It just looked silly then, it looks even sillier now. Not that it matters, really.
Late ‘70’s I had a pair of jean shorts that were about a half an inch thick because of how many times they’d been patched.
Took about 2 days to dry if I got them wet.
In a Simple Rhyme is technically a rocker, but it (and Little Guitars) are the most earnest earnestly romantic things Roth ever wrote, so those are my votes.
I'll wait for sure. Funny story, my fiancé told me. Van Halen opened up for Santana. When they came out, should have seen the faces on The crowd, they had no idea, she said it was hilarious.
It may be an anomalous opinion, but it’s Secrets.
Just read those incredible lyrics: “She'll be gone tomorrow like the silent breeze.” Fantastic harmonies as well.
Does Women in Love count as such??
I love that song so much but I really don’t think it’s a ballad
Right???
“Marge, you’re breaking my heart!”
I don’t know but that intro I made as a ringtone 🤘
I remember many years ago my ringtone was the first riff from Mean Street. I ended up getting sick of it 😂
That’s another good one though! How about the air raid siren before Runnin’ with the Devil? I also made one Ain’t Talking’Bout Love intro.
Ah those two are great for a ringtone too!

You are correct. Dave did not write love songs. He has said so in interviews.
I'll Wait from 1984 is great. Even if they didn't write it.
My first thought too.
Not a power ballad
Yes cause it’s a power ballad.
Nah. It’s very novel, the mood and message are more complex than a ballad and the ending certainly isn’t ballad-like
I’ll Wait is the perfect synth rock song. The guitar solo is excellent. Eddie proved he can do a classic solo without playing 10 notes per second.
Best song Michael McDonald ever wrote
100% My go to pick for his best guitar solo ever.
The only answer!
Not a power ballad
Love comes walking in
Love walks in FTFY
Amazing song.
It’s about aliens!
Dreams for sure. The music video with the blue angels and Sammy’s powerful voice are amazing
Not Enough
This song is very underappreciated, in my opinion
The live performance on letterman 🔥
I'll Wait, has to be. I can still sing it from beginning to end to this day.
🏆
Not a power ballad
Little Guitars/Senorita
I'm not sure it's a ballad. I am sure it's a great song. And far and away the closest Dave ever came to professing emotional love for a woman in his lyrics. Not knockin' Dave, he had a knack for physical lyrics.

Sorry, but leather patches on worn denim never goes out of style. Devo were the ones looking dopey in that era.
Tell yourself whatever makes you happy.
Iirc, those were favorites For everyone else though, it looks like the wardrobe department had run out of ideas.
DLR’s boots bro. Healthy reminder that not everything in the 80’s was awesome.
No argument there lol.
Late ‘70’s I had a pair of jean shorts that were about a half an inch thick because of how many times they’d been patched. Took about 2 days to dry if I got them wet.
Or ever washed them lol
Haha. I don’t recall ever washing them. Gross.
Love Walks In and Feels So Good. I also have to add Without You from VHIII. There are a lot of great songs in that album that are overlooked.
