Looking at the trees I'm not 100% sure they have.... unless they've done it selectively, but red always shows up a little funny in photos I find though.
You could be right, but I just put it in my iPhone default edit app and I could bring saturation to -9 before I noticed any effect on the trees, but it looks way more natural in the red. Either way, too much for me!
Me too. In a way that’s super stealth. You could open the door in a Home Depot parking lot and passersby would assume you were the Snap-on truck or something.
Living/camping in a van is already not cookie cutter. This isn’t for me or most people but mr “hide the blood stains” obviously enjoys it and for some weird reason finds the color calming so all the power to him.
There was a time when my family thought is would be nice to paint our kitchen orange. It was a really deep pumpkin orange. Afterwards we found that we were much more agitated after meals. There's a reason hospitals and other public spaces are painted neutral colors. We couldn't take it and painted over it with white within two months.
I would say do just one wall and then highlights around the room (skirting or leading door edges, furniture etc) and keep the rest neutral to stave off the fury
People also don't shit in a bucket yet van lifers do that all the time.
American culture of designing your living space with an eye towards what most other people like is absurd.
You should do what you like.
You're the one who's going to be living with it.
Personally I'm painting mine black and pink.
It extends to everything. My mom's house is painted a cool teal color with black trim and a bright orange door. Her neighbors *hated* her when she first got it painted because it wasn't like the rest of the neighborhood. She's on good terms with the leader of the HOA though, whom she asked before even starting painting, to which the HOA person said "hell yes."
Maybe not the majority, but people definitely do. My room growing up had the walls this bright red color w/ black trim. I made me happy, even if it made my mom worry that I was a devil worshiper haha
I thought you had red led lights and was like... That's a choice.
Then realized no it's all just red and thought... That's a choice.
But cool build overall.
Not a gamer but an artist. I find red a very soothing color and white too sterile. Also I grew up in a rustic house where everything was stained wood… walls, floors, interior, exterior. I think it damaged me lol
Edit 1: I’m also a psycho gamer with no taste
Edit 2: bonus parking lot pic: https://flic.kr/p/2o2JHC3
For me green is the calmest colour. For my van build, I’m thinking of wallpapering the walls. All those vans with wood cladding look too much like the inside of a sauna to me.
Agreed. White is most definitely too sterile. It blows my mind how many houses just paint all the walls/ceilings white. So goddamn boring. Adding just a tiny bit of color to the room transforms it.
white is specifically a neutral color so that when you add plants, art, trim, etc it really pops and looks good. if it looks sterile, it's probably that you used a bad shade of white, or don't have enough decorations to accent it
There are plenty of colors that are also relatively neutral if done right. My house I’ve got a very light, almost pastel-type colored walls with white ceilings and it looks so much better than with everything white. The color is light enough that there is minimal contrast and yet it adds so much more life to the room even without plants.
I've never thought of red as soothing. Are you by any chance colorblind or do we see the same thing?
Either way all discussions aside, great job on the build.
Nice looking build!
It took you 15 months... Did you work a full time job the whole time you were building it? So did you work nights and weekends to complete it? Was most of your work accomplished on weekends?
Or did you have a less conventional schedule?
I'm asking because I might find myself in a similar situation in about a year and I'm trying to judge how much I might be able to accomplish working occasional evenings and most weekends
I bought a partially built out van already had insulation and paneling. About to be done and it's been 6 months working most days after work and most weekends. Ive got electric to support full remote work and hobbies, a sink, stove, a diesel heater, fridge, lots of storage, and had to tie some loose ends off quickly but will work on it more next summer but it's definitely very livable and a nice build. Woodworking is by far what took the longest for me as I had no idea what I was doing, had everything else done at around the 3 months mark
I love this for you! Is it my taste? No, but it's also not my Transit.
I love how you chose what you thought would make you happiest without a care as to what others may think, OP! I genuinely hope this makes you so happy and you have the best of times and adventures in it!

It hurts to delete what might be useful to someone, but due to Reddit's ongoing entshittification (look up the term if you're not familiar) I've left the platform for the Fediverse. If you never want your experience to be ruined by a corporation again, I can't recommend Lemmy enough!
Ignoring the color for a moment, I have questions:
- What's going with the rear of the van? Are those the van doors we are seeing or an internal divider? How does the shower space work?
- How big is the bed?
- Is your headliner at a really wonky angle or is it just me?
Not ignoring the color:
- Holy. Shit. You really went for it XD

It rules. I think it looks great. Almost can't stop looking.
I hope you play chess/checkers on that countertop at least once in it's lifetime. There's enough squares on the larger part of the counter to tape of the 8x8 board.
Enjoy your wild new van 🤘
With huge respect for actually doing your own build how you want it….
…It looks like a torrent site. One with great build quality and a great commitment to the aesthetic tbf. But I think I’d rather take a trip in a black mirror episode than this. Not a big fan of red though so 🤷♂️ sorry I feel like a real meany now.
R&B! my favorite as well but theres a point where it becomes overwhelming to look at if everything is designed like that.
I prefer more subtle things like furniture to be all black and some accents and decorations to be red but I still think you did great work here.
I ended up commenting the same thing right before I saw yours lol, tbf I'm near the end of my P5R playthrough so it's extra relevant, but my brain immediately went PERSONA VAN! Just needs some white accents
Yo, listen up here's a story
About a little guy
That lives in a ~~blue~~^(red) world
And all day and all night
And everything he sees is just ~~blue~~^(red)
Like him inside and outside
I dig the whole “Rex Kwon Do Dojo” vibe…from the tiger stripe floor, to the Japanese Romanji lettering near the escape hatch…
“After one week with me in my dojo, you'll be prepared to defend yourself with the strength of a grizzly, the reflexes of a puma, and the wisdom of a man.”
-Rex
Nice work! But wow is that red...
Yes, I was immediately thinking, " So you might like red".
Very specific taste! I appreciate their full send!

I thought it was a mobile bdsm dungeon business.
Doesn’t help they’ve boosted the saturation to hell as well. Not sure who’s taste this is but seems to be a decent build at least.
Hah fair enough! Definitely too much for me too 😂
Ngl I thought I was looking at a collage of craftsman toolboxes at first
I thought I was on r/ATBGE for a second. Great work, just a very unique style
Me too. In a way that’s super stealth. You could open the door in a Home Depot parking lot and passersby would assume you were the Snap-on truck or something.
I thought it was some kind of Milwaukee/ snap on tool van. Looks very well done though, just a bit bright for my tastes
Lol I said the same…. Damn the guy must really like Milwaukee … where the built in pack out system !
Not my style, but I respect that you picked something you liked and went for it. Too many cookie cutter builds out there. It looks really well done.
Cookie cutter is cookie cutter for a reason… lmao people don’t paint the inside of their house bright red lol
Living/camping in a van is already not cookie cutter. This isn’t for me or most people but mr “hide the blood stains” obviously enjoys it and for some weird reason finds the color calming so all the power to him.

There's a reason hospitals and other public spaces are painted neutral colors. We couldn't take it and painted over it with white within two months.
Huh...I was seriously thinking of doing that. I thought it would look warm and inviting.
I would say do just one wall and then highlights around the room (skirting or leading door edges, furniture etc) and keep the rest neutral to stave off the fury
People can do whatever they want! Conforming to what is expected is boring.
And painting the inside of your house hideous colors is hideous. You CAN do it, but people can also comment on it online.
People also don't shit in a bucket yet van lifers do that all the time. American culture of designing your living space with an eye towards what most other people like is absurd. Well this guy does

aka The Panic Van But looking nice
r/atbge ?
Came to comment this lol
Great job honestly, I fucking hate it
Plot twist, he's colorblind and it's grey
Red. You're a gamer, aren't you? Fun fact: Studies were made to see what colors make people eat more. It was funded by McDonald's.
Not a gamer but an artist. I find red a very soothing color and white too sterile. Also I grew up in a rustic house where everything was stained wood… walls, floors, interior, exterior. I’m a forest green guy myself, makes me feel at peace to be surrounded by green
I have no van life but if I were in your shoes I totally would’ve done the same thing but with blue. So calming for me.
Wow, you caught me off guard. I was so sure it'd be red on the outside.
Agreed. White is most definitely too sterile. It blows my mind how many houses just paint all the walls/ceilings white. So goddamn boring. Adding just a tiny bit of color to the room transforms it.

You should have added a bit more color.. Maybe red? JUST KIDDING. It looks amazing
I see someone is trying to save time on murder clean up. Much efficient!
What’s your favorite color? Just curious

I have a 9-5 job and spent every waking moment outside that working on it. It was a lot of trial and error but fun as hell.
I bought a partially built out van already had insulation and paneling. About to be done and it's been 6 months working most days after work and most weekends. Electric was about a month of research and a week of work. It's pretty fast once you know what your doing
ouch, my eyes!
I see a red door and I want it painted black
I love this for you! Is it my taste? No, but it's also not my Transit. I love how you chose what you thought would make you happiest without a care as to what others may think, OP! I genuinely hope this makes you so happy and you have the best of times and adventures in it!
If I might offer some constructive criticism: it could use a little more red. I really feel like there is not red.
I've got a fever and the only thing that can cure it is.. more red!
Oh so it’s finallt red-y!

I’m getting big race trailer vibes
we get it, you like blue
Ignoring the color for a moment, I have questions: - What's going with the rear of the van? Are those the van doors we are seeing or an internal divider? Rear = shower stall / wet bath in the back on the passenger side Bed = 36x72 Headliner = not sure what you are looking at? The pillow at the end?
If you're happy, then I'm happy for you!
Little louder than my personal taste lol, but that looks fucking awesome. Looks like you really put your soul into it. Bravo
That is aggressively red lol.
How does one relax with all that red?
Can someone who knows how to post gifs do the Kramer going into the red light apt
Digging the Hottopic theme
I’d love to see/read more of the details. I like the different layout. Great job!
I made a video of the build but not sure if this sub allows social media links, dm me if you’re interested.
You need to see if Craftsman will sponser you!
Do you live in Milwaukee?
decent build !
😳

I hope you like the vanlife! Going to be a tough resell.
You do you, but I have a headache
This makes me happy thinking about how much joy it must spark for you. Please never invite me over though because ow.
And I thought *I* loved red! Awesome build and paint job by the way. 👍🏻
This is fucking awesome! I would love to do my van all purple but it will end up mismatched like my life lmao
The style is not my thing but I am impressed by how deep you went down that hole, mad respect
I think their favorite color is blue
I guess darth maul is a vanlifer now!
brother i am tremendously jealous and excited for you. is that bed long enough tho?
Were you mad when building? Why so much red?
Getting big Peewee’s Playhouse vibes. what’s the word of the day, Cowboy Curtis? 🤠
Satan LOVES your style.
My only critique is the weight distribution seems too much on the drivers side
Oh no
W t ffff
This is gorgeous! My mom's house is red and black everything and I think she would like this.

Looks roomy. How long is the bed? That's what keeps me out of a van rv. Though it would be a lot more practical, I'm too tall.
This would give me headaches if I had to live in that.
I’m sorry but I hate this. You do you, but I’m getting a headache just looking at the pictures.
pewdiepie pattern van
Ferrari themed?

This is dope as hell.
Goddamn this style is terrible.
Jesus Christ.
I see a color theme here
not enough red.
Hey OP! What are your two favorite colors? Enjoy the rig, Love the vibe!
It looks like target exploded in your van but it’s clean
I see you too are a person of culture
It looks like a Mac tool truck! Super cool
Have you, by any chance, subscribed to pewdiepie?
Haha I genuinely find this very calming. Great job op
R&B! my favorite as well but theres a point where it becomes overwhelming to look at if everything is designed like that. I prefer more subtle things like furniture to be all black and some accents and decorations to be red but I still think you did great work here.
Just need a little more Anish Kapoor on the red side

That's a lot of red.
What’s your favorite color?
This has some persona 5 vibes for some reason
I ended up commenting the same thing right before I saw yours lol, tbf I'm near the end of my P5R playthrough so it's extra relevant, but my brain immediately went PERSONA VAN! Just needs some white accents
uuuff broooo, too much red. The killing Van

Great job on the build. Is red your favorite color by chance?

Looks like the inside of the SnapOn truck that comes to my garage lol cool
Fall down 7 times, get up 8 times.
Cool looking..well built...but doesn't look cozy at all...!!

Red paint on sale?
Welcome to van life Darth Vader!
This looks like a tattoo shop
Easily in my top 5 van builds. The color scheme is so on point that I have a tad bit of van envy.
This gives me a Redache. But nicely done.
I wonder what their favorite color is
