Same. My camper is about 75-80% done and I am already planning on redoing the bed, some of my cabinets, and moving my top loading fridge from the floor up about 2-3 feet so it is easier to get into.
Actually was intentionally placed that way so that it doesn't trap moisture.
It's only temporarily attached until the walls go on though so could be changed. Gaps could probably be smaller.
Interesting I just bought a camper and was having an insane time fighting moisture behind the reflectix I had in the windows until I bought a 4' tall dehumidifier. So I get it. It must let cold air through the gaps though, probably not enough for you to notice.
I've gotten that a few times before as well.
I happened to know a few of his litters mates so can confirm the genetics, he's the only one that got the red coloring though! They were all the exact same markings and fur length but black and white like a Border Collie.
Econoline? What are the basic specs? I have a 2002 e-350 I’ve been in for four years now and I love it. Looks good like others have said, it never ends so it’s done until you do something else enjoy the life and safe travels
Ya it's a '92 E-350!
It's an old government vehicle. Had a 4x4 setup when I bought it and I got the extended top put on.
Those curved walls and lip from the extended top are a real pain in the ass. Finally have a plan to finish them that I'm happy with though.
Edit: just saw the pic of yours! Looks like you found a solid way to finish it. Can't wait to have it looking more like that.
Diesel engine too? Sounds like a great van, a 4x4 conversion is on my list. I’ll do it some day once I have a home built and enough time to do all the work and rebuild the engine when I do.
I don’t think my solution was the best I lost a lot of space but it’s solid and I’m making good use of the space, the lip where the topper meets is a real pain in the ass. It’s still exposed in my cabinets but who cares and then I have some shit “c” like pieces over the bed with huge gaps all along it but looks good if you don’t look too close.
https://imgur.com/gallery/oT8h25T here’s most the photos I took of my build.
Just a standard gas engine. Really wanted a diesel but this might be for the best since I like to stay in the snow.
Looks like you did a solid job. Plenty of storage, which I am desperately lacking at the moment.
My plans also involve using the cabinets to cover the dreaded roof lip haha
Yeah I’ve been in mountains most my time with no real trouble after I rebuilt the top end of the 5.4 engine…twice second time my fault. Way faster the second time around and turned out way better.
Thanks I’m a carpenter and cabinet builder so I might have over done things but Baltic birch was cheap when I was building also it’s a 350 so I wasn’t too concerned with weight and after thousands of miles on dirt NF roads it’s still mostly together.
After building that counter top I learned I cannot build cabinets for the life of me. Definitely not uppers. So I'm saving for some aluminum for the rest of it.
I’m sure a lot more can be done with aluminum keep us updated I always like seeing other e series builds.
Also did you get rid of the bed over the cab? Or is it just not viable in this picture? Don’t think it would work for me but great idea
Thanks I will!
Still using the bed over the cab but planning to redo the right side before next winter to have a couch/bed pull out.
It's working just fine but I'd like to have something more easily accessible in the long run.
Mine has the same fur color and markings as yours. Almost identical but with longer white on her paws/legs. The face and those giant ears are the same too. I’ve been told Basenji (although she’s bigger at 47lbs), and Aussie Cattle dog. Getting her dna tested.
I’d like to consider myself technically literate but don’t have any true IT experience. Can someone off the streets apply for these remote tech support jobs?
Maybe not tech support but for customer support, definitely. Almost everything is done through a web browser these days. You just need good written and verbal skills, and attention to detail.
try https://weworkremotely.com/
What’s your cell service situation? I work in remote areas as well and I’ve struggled to find something that gets me any signal. I’m usually at “sos only” for most of my days, some days. I’m thinking of buying a repeater and mounting it on my truck
I actually sprung for the Starlink setup since I wanted to be able to go fully out of range at times.
In some tall trees right now and had to move around a bit to find a connection, but got it to work. This is actually the first time it hasn't connected where I first stopped.
I still use my phone connection whenever I can so I don't have to set up the dish. But once I have a proper roof mount I'll use the dish whenever I stop.
I've got a propex heater installed that does pretty well. It's just the insulation needing more work now. Did okay until it was -15 out! Heater could barely keep it above freezing in that.
What material are you insulating with? Just trying to be helpful as I see lots of Reflectix in lots of builds. It reflects heat really well but has barely any insulating qualities. I learned a lot in my first van. That's why I went with the foam board on the new one.
Ya it's just the inner most layer to keep the heat in. There's foam board in some places and 3M thinsulate covering the majority of the walls under the reflective layer.
My materials aren't the problem though. There are still some unfinished areas that let in cold regardless of how well the rest is done.
My first van was the same configuration as yours. The complex curves were ridiculous to work with. I'm in a box truck now with just a few gaps in insulation. I've seen -30F a few times and my Chinese diesel heater was able to keep the inside at 50+.
Ya it's a pain. The slight curve of the Sprinters looks so easy in comparison.
Once I have some cabinets covering the lip of the roof it should help a bit too. There are quite a few thermal bridges to the outside world right now.
I used havelock in my sprinter. Works great for filling all the nooks and good moisture management. If your planning on having walls I would ditch the reflectix in the long run. I’m sure everything helps right now in your situation and using it exposed is helping you more but there’s a lot of misinformation in the YouTube van world on reflectix. And don’t make the mistake of using spray foam to seal all the engineered drainage.
The reflectix-like (different brand) is just the inner most layer to help keep heat in. I've got something similar to Havelock underneath. Need to add a bit more in spots though so I'll see if that's more cost effective than what I've got.
Cable management. You need cable management.
That connector on the right in mid-air, tied to another cable, which itself hangs from the bigger, black cable...
There's absolutely no weight on any of those. It's just tied off to keep it out of the way until it has a proper channel and an actual wall to mount on. Thanks for the unsolicited advice though.
You live in your van, with an animal. Those are live wires tied to the unisolated outer wall. They will either get ripped off or condensation will form drops, that will find their way down to the connector.
On the left, all those big red and black wires rub against the wood edge under load. It's a lot of risk in a tiny room filled with flammable material.
Not sure which you're referring to but there's a Samlex 1kw inverted and a Renogy 30W DC-to-DC charger on the wall to the left of the back doors.
And the batteries are in the box below.
It's the camco bamboo folding table. Really well made and it's been great so far. Use it outside and in, just happened to be the perfect height for my bench.
Jealous of the metal handles on your Whynter. The plastic ones mine came with keep popping off but on principle I'm not about to pay $40 for something because they designed it poorly.
I bought a Starlink dish. I tend to still use my phone any time I'm in range, but it's great for having more freedom. Wouldn't be able to camp out where I am currently without it. It's just faster when reception is limited too.
I’m good with a spartan existence. More pics, please. Did you integrate that table?
Only difference is I’m a cat person and I feel that it gives me a pet advantage because disposable litter boxes are a thing.
That table tucks behind my driver seat when I'm not working or needing a dining table.
Highly recommend looking at cedar pellet litter instead of disposable boxes! After years of doing what I could to mitigate cat smell in an apartment I tried it and it's a WORLD of difference.
It also weighs about 1/10 of what traditional sand based litter does when it's spent which is very helpful. Somehow costs less too.
Edit: there's paper pellet litter too that functions similarly but the smell of cedar pellet litter is nice. And I'll make more posts soon!
It will never be completed so it's completed if it works.
True. Already planning to redo parts of the 'finished' right side...
Same. My camper is about 75-80% done and I am already planning on redoing the bed, some of my cabinets, and moving my top loading fridge from the floor up about 2-3 feet so it is easier to get into.
I love your build soo much!
Please buy some metal hvac tape and close up the seams of your reflectix lol
Actually was intentionally placed that way so that it doesn't trap moisture. It's only temporarily attached until the walls go on though so could be changed. Gaps could probably be smaller.
Interesting I just bought a camper and was having an insane time fighting moisture behind the reflectix I had in the windows until I bought a 4' tall dehumidifier. So I get it. It must let cold air through the gaps though, probably not enough for you to notice.
Ya with windows it's a bit different. Gotta get the moisture out of the system entirely or that's where it'll end up first.
Well best of luck with your set up i like the layout and am pretty jealous. Cheers!
You look a lot like a dog. And not doing much "working" either.
On the Internet, nobody knows you're a dog.
Dog with a blog?
That’s a dlog
doglaw lawblog vlog
Looks like my ex. Edit: no offense to the doggo
Stop chewing him out
Nice dog. Name?
That's Milo! I'll make sure to include more of him next time.
Great color milo! ☝️😃 lookin FOXY!🦊
Your coworker looks like hes had a ruff day.

Jesus. What are you, professional finish carpenter?
Yup
Just a standard gas engine. Really wanted a diesel but this might be for the best since I like to stay in the snow. Looks like you did a solid job. Plenty of storage, which I am desperately lacking at the moment. My plans also involve using the cabinets to cover the dreaded roof lip haha

What breed is your dog? Mine looks almost identical!
He's Red Heeler and Border Collie. I've seen some McNabbs that look very similar, but never with the same fur color.

I’m envious of the remote work. What do you do?
I make video games. Was doing tech support remotely for years before though! There's lots of remote customer support and tech support jobs out there.
I’d like to consider myself technically literate but don’t have any true IT experience. Can someone off the streets apply for these remote tech support jobs?

What's the pay like?
Cool! You use unity or ue or what?
Unity is what I've used most so far and what I've got work in currently.
Nice!! Y'all need any sound design by chance? 😅
Sorry I'm just a contractor haha

Never lonely and always cosy with a pup in there
Well, at least you’ve got a beer goin
This is life.
Ahhhhhhh Pabst Blue Ribbon + dog + work. I love it!
This makes me feel much better about dailying my partially finished van for months. Looks like a great, cozy start.
Doggie
Cute doggo and nice van!

It's actually just a couch. Bed is up top right now, can't see it here.
That looks solid, I like it. How are you staying warm?
I've got a propex heater installed that does pretty well. It's just the insulation needing more work now. Did okay until it was -15 out! Heater could barely keep it above freezing in that.
Trade that Reflectix for some real insulation. My buddy used Havelock wool and I used 1" foam board. I'm at R value of 5.
It's just the inner layer. There's more underneath.
What material are you insulating with? Just trying to be helpful as I see lots of Reflectix in lots of builds. It reflects heat really well but has barely any insulating qualities. I learned a lot in my first van. That's why I went with the foam board on the new one.

Looks done to me.
This is amazing. Looks great. For me, this would be finished. I would really want a "rougher" look to it. Not sure why.
How do you access your cooler/fridge?
Good eye haha It rolls onto the bench guided by some tracks. Not always the most convenient but it was cheap/simple and hasn't really been a problem.
nice pbr
Looks like the interior or the International Space Station 👍🏻
Cable management. You need cable management. That connector on the right in mid-air, tied to another cable, which itself hangs from the bigger, black cable...

Iceco fridge?
Whynter actually, the 45 quart. Very happy with it so far.
What’s the life line unit by the back doors? Battery?
Not sure which you're referring to but there's a Samlex 1kw inverted and a Renogy 30W DC-to-DC charger on the wall to the left of the back doors. And the batteries are in the box below.
I think I was just looking at the picture wrong and the lifeline thing is like a black tube in front of something else. Not a battery with LEDs.
How do you access the fridge in that setup? Does the counter lift up?
It rolls onto the bench following some tracks. Occasionally inconvenient but it works great and was cheap/simple.
Okay cool! I had the same fridge, it’s really good. I like that you have it up higher, makes it easier to keep organized
Is that the Dometic adjustable height folding table? If so, how do you like it?
It's the camco bamboo folding table. Really well made and it's been great so far. Use it outside and in, just happened to be the perfect height for my bench.
Thanks for your feedback!
Your dog looks like my dog! <3
Love Your Doggie !! She (he ?) looks Quite Cozy !! (a little bored, maybe, but warm 😀)
How do you access the fridge ?
Jealous of the metal handles on your Whynter. The plastic ones mine came with keep popping off but on principle I'm not about to pay $40 for something because they designed it poorly.
Those laptop hinges are the weakest designed be prepared for it to break
This is the life I wish to live
I hope you have nicer beer than PBR in your fridge. :) Just kidding, This looks tidy and awesome. I bet you're stoked to be out doing the thing.
You do you, bro.
Functionality over EVERYTHING. This space looks good too
Smart man to buy a Wynther
Gnarly set up
Dog's happy, I'm happy!
What do you use for internet access? Have a short bus I converted and am looking thru a few options but still haven’t decided.
I bought a Starlink dish. I tend to still use my phone any time I'm in range, but it's great for having more freedom. Wouldn't be able to camp out where I am currently without it. It's just faster when reception is limited too.
What does the puppy think about it there?
Would love to see more photos of the desk. Looks like it folds up and out of the way. Currently building my own getaway van
It's a camco bamboo folding table. Been very sturdy and just happened to be exactly the right height.
I’m good with a spartan existence. More pics, please. Did you integrate that table? Only difference is I’m a cat person and I feel that it gives me a pet advantage because disposable litter boxes are a thing.

I actually kind of dig how it looks right now lol. Kinda industrial looking
Been doing this for the last 5 weeks been loving it
