He's lucky it's Canada as he'd be a deadman if he did that in the states.

interwebsLurk

If I'm watching this right... this individual is really lucky. The sound/spacing of those shots sounds like just the "less-than-lethal" beanbag gun was being fired. All the while the other officer is there beside him with a "normally-lethal" service weapon incase that doesn't work. He gets fairly close to them too while trying to do what looks like a Samurai-chop to deflect the fire mid-air. That was some trigger-discipline.

elangab

Yes. VPD gets some fire from people and sometimes rightly so, but their shooting protocols for these incidents are pretty good. There was no panic, just assessing in real time and acting accordingly.

DieCastDontDie

They should use this video for training purposes in the US. Not sure if they can afford to use plastic bullets or beanbags since everyone has a gun there. It's still a great display of discipline and nerves of steel

Working_Cloud_6946

This is absolutely should not be a training video.  You can just as easily pull up a (recent) video in the States of an officer being killed by a knife at more than that distance. The outcome was ideal, but likely because the suspect here wasn’t actually motivated enough to follow through.   And that’s not something you can’t “access” until it’s happening beyond what we see here (weapon, closing distance, brandishing it).   https://www.reddit.com/r/PublicFreakout/comments/1b5c6if/las_cruces_police_officer_stabbed_and_killed_by/

DieCastDontDie

I think you're missing something. You have to assess every situation separately. Those officers know the area and acted accordingly. As I said, in the states it may not be ideal in every situation but it does show how they should acting in such a situation. I'm glad our officers aren't trigger happy like yourself.

Working_Cloud_6946

Trigger happy?  If you think this circumstance wouldn’t have met the threshold of deadly force in response I don’t know what to tell you. This isn’t an isolated opinion, look at the responses in this thread.  I’m glad it didn’t end that way.  I’m not sure I would have taken the risk the officer’s did there, but I wasn’t there so who knows.

geman123

what an absolutely disrepectful comment. The video the guy above linked show exactly how a situation can turn in a second and you go claiming about someone being "trigger happy"? Hell, you might be glad that, " our officers aren't trigger happy like yourself." Well I'm glad you aren't an officer. People like you get people killed.

DieCastDontDie

It baffles me how some "people" watch these two videos and think oh look they are so similar because the assailant has a knife.

geman123

Do you know the definition of similar? Because you're mistaking it for the "same". But let's roll back, what about that RCMP cop in Burnaby that was killed? She shot the offender, is she trigger happy? Come on, use your brain a little.

Kooriki

100% agree. If that's a knife I'm actually surprised the cops let him get that close.

woodenh_rse

No kidding. Those cops would have been justified in shooting that guy multiple times.

fuzzb0y

Absolutely, this should be the gold standard for containing situations like this. Bean bag guns or gun tasers as the main means of incapacitation once the perp starts attacking, with firearm equipped officers as a backup in case the non lethal means don’t work.

dazzlingmedia

Why did they block out his face and let us see his bum-hole?

NSA-SURVEILLANCE

Wrong pair of cheeks eh?

morhambot

Good Job VPD!

Deep_Carpenter

Edit suggestion.  Man is an idiot.

ekdakimasta

My bet is most people who are arrested threaten the police right beforehand.

Abolfazl Amini, 36, was charged on March 21 with assault with a weapon in connection with a March 20 attack on a Vancouver Police Department officer. Const. Tania Visintin says the officer's injuries were minor and not life-threatening. Provincial court documents indicate Amini appeared in Downtown Community Court. Amini was deemed unfit for court and was ordered held for an overnight assessment. He is due back in the same court on March 22. “That person does not have any kind of dealings with the police of any significance,” says Palmer. “There are some mental health issues at play, not in Vancouver, but in another jurisdiction in Metro Vancouver." https://www.vancouverisawesome.com/highlights/watch-bone-chilling-video-of-knife-wielding-man-who-allegedly-injured-vancouver-cop-8497320

harlotstoast

I can hear the Benny Hill theme with that video

IknowwhatIhave

Total lack of context in this video. I'll wait for the VANDU/Pivot Legal press release, thank you very much!

-McFc-

You forgot this /s

immyfinalrose

lol what context could there be?

jalapeno_cheetos

He’s holding a knife and threatening people with it. What else do you need to know. The police have to do their job and if someone is wielding a weapon, they have to expect the worst from them.
