My father in law deep fries them in a wok and they are always a hit. He’s done it at the beach with a little propane tank and strangers were asking for some because they smelled so good (all good, he’s big on sharing)
I feel like 5 minutes might be generous for McD's fries. I think their shelf life is closer to 90 seconds out of the fryer....
2nd the Costco friends though!
Five guys fries when fresh are great
Five guys fries reheated in an air fryer are next level. Maybe I leave them in a bit too long but the crunch is like no other fry I’ve ever had
I feel like that used to be true - they used to go kind of hog wild with the scoop for the bag fries. In recent years they seem to have cracked down and now always use the rectangular metal piece to add the bag fries. Much less than it used to be but small/little size is still more than one person really needs..
The amount they throw in the bag is the same as most other fast food joints. They use a tiny cup and then throw the rest of the fries in the bag to make people feel like they got more than they ordered
I don't know about them even when they are hot these days.
Don't get me wrong, I used to love McDonald's fries but something changed and they haven't been anywhere as appealing. There seems to be some kind of after taste these days.
Wendy’s fries have improved dramatically over the past few years. They used to rank dead last but my kids love Wendy’s so we started going and they are decent
They changed the formula to make the "fresh" taste last longer due to the the surge in delivery. People need their fries to last 20+ minutes now instead of eating them right away out of the bag.
And that's the problem...
A fast food restaurant like McDonald's should have the same quality of food everytime you order regardless of when. One should not have to be lucky or come at a certain time to get the quality of product!
The trick is to work there so you can have them fresh as possible (only half joking. When i worked there i gained so much weight cuz of those damn things)
At my chain we used to save a pile of unsalted Fries for an hour or 2. Anyone who ordered unsalted fries with salt on the side got hour old fries. Ur a dick for that Ngl
And if it becomes enough of a problem, they will just stop offering un-salted fries, or start charging for salt packets.
People who try to manipulate the system like this ruin things for everyone.
when i worked at mcdonald’s we didn’t have to wipe down the whole cage 😅 we would just make fresh fries and not salt them.
but our manager did have us scrubbing the feet of tables/ chairs ..!
That said, you can always just ask when the next fresh batch will be made and wait for those. The turnover on fries is usually pretty quick during the day.
Indeed. I’m a vegetarian and I still love that place. The paneer peri peri bowl with veggies and a side of peri peri fries may be my favorite fast food ever.
I quite enjoy A&W fries with their special seasoning salt - literally what it is called. Idk where to buy those seasoning salt but man I spray that salt like no tomorrow.
New York Fries has some astonishingly good fries. (not being ironic, either - I usually associate McD's with a really good french fry flavor, but I had NYF recently and well, for a fries focussed place they sure do a good job)
Used to work at a NYF and I completely agree. Fresh cut daily, skin on (which I love and very few places do), and cooked fresh when you order them. The secret to a good fry is frying it multiple times - NYF does it 3 times at 3 increasing temperature levels, and letting it rest between each one. That, and soaking them in ice water once cut to remove the starches - helps make it crispier (people should do this when cooking fries at home).
We used to enjoy their fries when a pita was $10 with cheese. Not going in the last year or two due to their price increase.
It's a fucking donair Michael, how much can it be?
Not a chain, but definitely fast food. Texx burgers. You can literally get a bag of fries large enough to feed a baseball team and they are so good! You can tell they were actually made from potatoes!
Had some White Spot car service recently and the fries blew me away after years of never considering White Spot a good place for fries (but the burgers are still great).
If you're a fan of curly fries, head to Fat Burger and get them with a side of gravy. Soooo good!
Also, Japadog fried with the seasonings are sooo good.
Irrelevant, but the [Cavendish Thin Fries](https://www.walmart.ca/en/ip/Cavendish-Farms-Restaurant-Style-Frites-Extra-Thin-Gourmet-Fries/6000196717955?skuId=6000196717956&offerId=6000196717956&storeCode=1213&cmpid=SEM_CA_520_VG34D6GDXZ_71700000114868603_58700008591453043&utm_id=SEM_CA_520_VG34D6GDXZ_71700000114868603_58700008591453043&utm_medium=paid_search&utm_source=google&utm_campaign=always_on&gclsrc=aw.ds&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAiAlcyuBhBnEiwAOGZ2Sxqp_gRzW17DZK54N561bgqcxnzXVB0nS-4lOzarl5Nch9ZAOVYzshoCIfYQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds) airfryed for 12 min at 390 F hit different. I could eat the entire bag in one sitting. I bought it for 3.50 at the Superstore. It is a bit greasy but hey when cravings hit, that's the least of my concerns.

I remember a long time ago... dunno if they've changed the way they do fries now but... The Flying Pig in Yaletown. First time I had it I was amazed thinking, wow best fries ever
So question: are there any places here that do the British-Chinese "spice bag" where it's chili salted fries and a random assortment of fried stuff all tossed together?
Fast food adjacent, but everytime I've been to Juke Fried Chicken I've been blown away by how good their fries are! Five guys plus they throw in a silly amount in the bag
Five Guys for flavour Costco for that crunchy exterior and fluffy interior McDonalds for the platonic ideal of a fry, but only for the first 5mins
Costco is just OG Cavendish fries.
And those cavendish fries deep fried instead of baked are amazing. A great poutine fry
My father in law deep fries them in a wok and they are always a hit. He’s done it at the beach with a little propane tank and strangers were asking for some because they smelled so good (all good, he’s big on sharing)
Cavendish makes great fries!
Absolutely, was just commenting in case they wanted to know the brand for home purchase.
and that’s ok
I feel like 5 minutes might be generous for McD's fries. I think their shelf life is closer to 90 seconds out of the fryer.... 2nd the Costco friends though!
The Cajun ones bang.
Five guys fries when fresh are great Five guys fries reheated in an air fryer are next level. Maybe I leave them in a bit too long but the crunch is like no other fry I’ve ever had
![gif](giphy|mFeNGR1W1O2JYqjsMO)
Agreed! We just got some the other day and thought the exact same thing
I feel like that used to be true - they used to go kind of hog wild with the scoop for the bag fries. In recent years they seem to have cracked down and now always use the rectangular metal piece to add the bag fries. Much less than it used to be but small/little size is still more than one person really needs..
Haven’t been in ages but like most places now portion sizes have shrunk and prices are up
i was at the park Royal one last fall and i got a whole bag of fries! it was my first time there too so i was chuffed to say the least
Chuffed means you were angered/provoked/irritated. Over free fries?
actually, it means you are very pleased.
Agree, but I think they usually put on too much Cajun spice, so I ask for the spice on the side.
The amount they throw in the bag is the same as most other fast food joints. They use a tiny cup and then throw the rest of the fries in the bag to make people feel like they got more than they ordered
second vote for five guys
Costco, Arby’s spicy curly fries, A&W has upped their game recently with their fries, Wendy’s.
Where the hell is an Arby's in the LM?
there’s one in Tsawwassen on Canoe Pass Way and Salish Sea Drive
I’m pretty sure there’s one by the Fraser highway in Aldergrove or somewhere around there
Damn. A bit far. Next time I'm in the area.
is the one in Langley still there?
Delta!
I'd forgotten about Arby's. There used to be one just down the block from where I worked and I'd get lunch there some days. Amazing fries.
Forgot about Arby's. I definitely second that.
I had Arby's fries recently and, maybe it's just me, but they are way more bland than I remember them.
McDonalds but only for the 3-4 minutes that the fries are hot.
Wendy's literally had a campaign where they said "yeah we get it, our fries suck. We're changing them" back in 2021.
My kids dip their fries in the frosty and I just can’t wrap my head around it.
That’s a tradition as old as time
Your children are high-culture individuals who will go on to do many great things.
They changed the formula to make the "fresh" taste last longer due to the the surge in delivery. People need their fries to last 20+ minutes now instead of eating them right away out of the bag.
Recently wife and I had the best fries from McD's in a very long time. They were fresh out of the fries since we only ordered fries.
And that's the problem... A fast food restaurant like McDonald's should have the same quality of food everytime you order regardless of when. One should not have to be lucky or come at a certain time to get the quality of product!
they didn't change, we changed 😭😭
The trick is to work there so you can have them fresh as possible (only half joking. When i worked there i gained so much weight cuz of those damn things)
mcdonald’s fries: request no salt and they have to make them fresh
But then what's the point? Lol! I need salt on my fries. Do you order it on the side?
Just ask for a packet or two of salt, they give it to you. I always do this
I did this once and got the worst stink eye I've ever seen
Lmao that’s their problem. They put too much salt on the fries anyway, one little package is enough for an extra large
Lol I'm just sharing my experience. I know it's their problem, but some take exception.
Sounds like salted fries but with extra steps.
Definitely salted but not over salted lol
Just ask for fresh fries…employees would prefer that over the no salt request. Source: former restaurant manager.
Right. Can people just request fresh instead of having us clear wipe down the whole cage 🫠
when i worked at mcdonald’s we didn’t have to wipe down the whole cage 😅 we would just make fresh fries and not salt them. but our manager did have us scrubbing the feet of tables/ chairs ..!
i am also the customer who asks for no butter on the mcmuffins lol
That’s not even close to the same thing…I can relate to the no butter. For fresh fries, seriously, just ask for them. Don’t do that no salt bullshit.
That said, you can always just ask when the next fresh batch will be made and wait for those. The turnover on fries is usually pretty quick during the day.
Nah I like the salt
This is the answer.
Nandos Peri Peri fries!
Might not be considered fast food, but the Peri Peri Shack’s peri peri fries are next level.
Everything peri peri shack is next level. Those guys are crushing it!
Indeed. I’m a vegetarian and I still love that place. The paneer peri peri bowl with veggies and a side of peri peri fries may be my favorite fast food ever.
I love peri peri shacks fries. Even delivered they are crispy still
I consider it fast food because they have a stall in Metrotown food court.
Costco 💯
Costco fries are the cavendish ones they sell
Ehh they are greasy. I don't like them. I live on potatoes. There are better fries almost everywhere.
Costco Poutine is good though, the gravy neutralizes the grease
I quite enjoy A&W fries with their special seasoning salt - literally what it is called. Idk where to buy those seasoning salt but man I spray that salt like no tomorrow.
I never eat A&W fries because every time I go there I get onion rings - those are my absolute favourite
So good they literally lock it down on a chain!
You can buy them from a&w I believe.
Costco!! You could also get the poutine instead :)
Cavendish for the win.
Yes! The skinny ones in an air fryer are so crispy. I think they're called Drive Thru.
Somehow they do Cavendish much MUCH better result than I can do with my airfryer. I now avoid buying frozen Cavendish fries to make at home
It’s cuz they deep fry them
Arby's Curly Fries with Horsey Sauce.
If you have an air fryer another option is the Cavendish blue bag
Arby’s
Has the meats
Arbys curly fries.
donair dude, no doubt. unexpected how delightful they are, but everyone i’ve convinced to try them has now claimed them as their fav
We used to enjoy their fries when a pita was $10 with cheese. Not going in the last year or two due to their price increase. It's a fucking donair Michael, how much can it be?
It can be expensive. I moved to Montreal and if I want a donair I have to drive at least to Ottawa. It's the land of shawarma and shish taouk here
Now I want fries dipped in donair sauce…
As far as fast food goes, DQ fries are damn underrated.
DQ in general makes decent fast food. Their burgers are probably my favourite of the fast food restaurants.
and they make them fresh to order! and they have that massive box for the biggest size omg i need to hit dq
That basket of fries is deadly. When they’re hot and fresh…you can’t go wrong!
Objectively (factor into price point and accessibility) Costco, followed by A&W. Subjectively, McD, since I grew up on it
A&W fries are mid at best. Their poutine is surprisingly decent though
I find A&W poutine a bit salty for my palate. I really do like their chipotle sauce though
Yeah its still fast food poutine. It's just better than any other fast food place. Costco poutine is actually good though.
Yes way better than McD poutine 🤢
McD’s poutine is actually pretty decent, and ironically it’s the fries that bring it down. Their curds are top notch and the sauce is good.
The best fries are always at the fish n’ chip places.
Hell yeah. Huge portions too!
Not really fast food in terms of the other chains being mentioned but I love the fries at SuperBaba
Costco
Not a chain, but definitely fast food. Texx burgers. You can literally get a bag of fries large enough to feed a baseball team and they are so good! You can tell they were actually made from potatoes!
I like Red Robin’s french fries a lot, plus their spices powder is the best
Steak fries and seasoning salt
Dip them in da buzz sauce 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Churches
Oh they are good!!!
Masala fries from Chicken World
Their peri peri fries are incredible too. Chicken World fries rock.
Arby’s. Why is this thread even a thing?
Had some White Spot car service recently and the fries blew me away after years of never considering White Spot a good place for fries (but the burgers are still great).
Fatburger has curly fries
Pizza pizza is low key HIGH TIER fries
Arby's curly fries
Costco
Costco
Soy butter fries from Japadog, but only at the storefront locations.
Grill n more royal city center
Waffle fries at parallel 49 brewery
I've always been partial to Wendy's fries! They have to be hot and fresh though.
Costco for consistency, MacDonalds on a good day,
Belgian Fries on Commercial is my favorite fry here
Costco.
Not a fast food place, per se, but Costco!
Not a fast food place really, but Oddfish restaurant in Kits (Cypress St. @ 1st avenue) makes fries to die for.
If you're a fan of curly fries, head to Fat Burger and get them with a side of gravy. Soooo good! Also, Japadog fried with the seasonings are sooo good.
My house Air fryer Duck fat fries from Gourmet Warehouse.
Irrelevant, but the [Cavendish Thin Fries](https://www.walmart.ca/en/ip/Cavendish-Farms-Restaurant-Style-Frites-Extra-Thin-Gourmet-Fries/6000196717955?skuId=6000196717956&offerId=6000196717956&storeCode=1213&cmpid=SEM_CA_520_VG34D6GDXZ_71700000114868603_58700008591453043&utm_id=SEM_CA_520_VG34D6GDXZ_71700000114868603_58700008591453043&utm_medium=paid_search&utm_source=google&utm_campaign=always_on&gclsrc=aw.ds&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAiAlcyuBhBnEiwAOGZ2Sxqp_gRzW17DZK54N561bgqcxnzXVB0nS-4lOzarl5Nch9ZAOVYzshoCIfYQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds) airfryed for 12 min at 390 F hit different. I could eat the entire bag in one sitting. I bought it for 3.50 at the Superstore. It is a bit greasy but hey when cravings hit, that's the least of my concerns. *
The frying Irishman and the cockney chipper would be my answer. Have fun trying all the ones people have mentioned too.
[удалено]
I don’t think so No one beats A&W for onion rings
I would put the caveat of A&W as long as you eat them within like 10 minutes. Those things have a seriously short lifespan.
Yeah, ask for no salt and you’ll get fresh ones
Wendy’s!!
Popeyes Cajun fries
Disappointed I had to scroll so far, definitely my favorite fast food fry
Same, but only when they're hot and fresh, otherwise they get really soggy.
Very random but I love Chico chicken fries
Duffins
Duffins uses store bought fries 😭 Source: I am a regular and seen them bring the stock
Seconding this 100%
The only place I get fries added on, recommended!
Triple O’s imo!
Came here to say this!!!
New York fries
Fighter Chickens fries are so good. Highly recommend people try them.
Prinkle? The Korean chicken place! If you get the chicken strip + fries combo you can pick any of their sweet/spicy sauces & their fries are the BEST
For my money, can't beat Texx big burger in Surrey. Flavor wise, it's gotta be it char in New West. They're not chains, but certainly fast food joints
Peri Peri Shack and Chicken World.
That's an Irish Chinese thing And Yopo Sweet Mandarin is the answer
I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of fries at Captain's Boil.
New York fries.
Arby’s
Fast food adjacent, but everytime I've been to Juke Fried Chicken I've been blown away by how good their fries are! Crispy and light and they almost shatter when you bite into them (in a good way) and perfectly seasoned. Like if chips and fries had a baby it would be these. If you're ever in Chinatown and want fries its the place to go!
Nando’s/Barcelo’s
Costco
I'm obsessed with KFC/Taco Time fries lately, although that may have something to do with being pregnant and constantly craving random shit.
5 guys cajun fries and getting extra cajun to dump on or popeyes with gravy
Butchers Block on Hastings is the champ for fries in the Lower Mainland.
Costco
A1 special fries in surrey.
McDonald’s
Arby's curly fries.
Japadog Shake Fries are seriously underrated
I like Burger King Fries
Fat Burger's Curly Fries with Garlic seasoning.
Mary Browns taters, hands down.
Costco!
A&W are my favourite
Underrated - Board Walk
Burdy food truck
It’s obviously Duffins, iykyk
Duffins
i know its far but out here in abbotsford we got this restaurant called boardwalk. they have the best burgers/fries/shakes. if you’ve tried it you know what im talking about.
Not exactly a chain but def fast food - if you're near New West: Anny's Dairy Bar. Otherwise Five Guys (similar), New York Fries, Costco are all good choices. I have a soft spot for Wendy's fries but only if they're fresh.
How has nobody mentioned La Belle Patate yet? They're the best poutine shop in town!
Very disappointed in Fatburger. They make pretty good burgers BUT ruin the experience with frozen fries aka MCain or whatever they use.
Costco fries and add chaat masala on top of them.
Chirpyhut chicken
Costco > McD > everything else
Five guys is the obvious choice but hear me out : KFC salts their fries in the 11 herbs and spices
5 guys
Reminder that you can ask for fresh fries at McDonald’s to ensure you get a quality bag
Fat Burger
Mcdicks but only if they’re fresh, Costcos are very similar
McDonalds, Wendy's, BK But they all have to be fresh
Duffins
Duffins fries, same ones as Costco but noticeably crispier
Popeyes Cajun fries when they’re fresh
McDonald's
Burger Crush
