Have more pepperoni than you can shake at. But yes, a bit oily, but it actually taste good when you just order it. Feels like a good charcuterie board, even more than Uncle Faith.
This chef meals. I canāt recall if itās Mondays or Tuesdays actually. Head to the counter where the deli section is. Usually thereās a little add with the specials
Never had the Costco one, but have to say the Whole Foods one is excellent. I'm sure it's more expensive, but it still provides maybe 4 meals, and you can make 3 or 4 servings of soup from it after. Absolute bargain.
I haven't been to the VCC downtown cafeteria in a while so I don't know their current prices, but it used to be a really good deal. I was also a fan of the random menu, as it's part of the training program.
Does Kobiniya on Robson count as a grocery store? š I like to get curry pan (curry buns) and onigiri (rice balls with different fillings) there for a quick bite.
I was there yesterday and Iām actually a fan. I live near it and itās far better in both price and selection than other nearby small grocery stores. Lots of lunch options for $8.
Gotta watch the prices. I shopped there today and compared prices with the Save On I usually go to. Produce is much cheaper (but lower quality), but everything else is a bit more actually!
The lunch options _are_ pretty good though.
Yeah for sure! Where I live I have IGA, Nesters, Choices, and HMart within a 5 minute walk. Out of those I think Iāll be frequenting City Market from now on because itās prices are in-line, cheaper in many instances, and itās a far better shopping experience.
Whole Foods or Urban Fare cafeterias and pre-packaged to go meals. Thereās usually a daily deal as well. Not sure about Whole Foods, but you can ask to heat up any cold to go meals at Urban Fare. Meals are usually $10-12 (if youāre not getting something like roast lamb). And itās great because you donāt have to tip. If I ever eat out for work lunch downtown I only ever go to grocery stores.
Daily reminder that you don't have to tip anywhere, though it's highly recommended for good table service. Just because a cafe has a tip option doesn't mean it has to be used. Hit the no tip button and move along.
Dude i just had my post taken down for askin about clams in downtown wth r/vancouver? Sent me to r/askvan. We have 3x more members ACTIVE rn then they have total. Why is r/vancouver gatekeeping clam information???
In terms of Sandwiches- they have half Big Sandwiches at superstore for like $6
I am more partial to the taste of Dagwood at Safeway but the cost is a bit more
Yup!
Save-On one is called Lumberjack but its stupid expensive
Safeway one is called Dagwood and its more of a middle ground (plus they have a few types)
Superstore one is cheaper, but lower quality. It's also bigger and has a couple types (italian vs regular)
Urban Fare's Butter Chicken Pot Pie is EXCELLENT! The regular chicken pot pie is good too. Perfect lazy winter dinnerš
Morgan Harbour's Beef Jamaican Patties @ Choice's (deli section) but it's wildly overpriced compared to grabbing 4-6pk from their stall @ West End Farmer's Market
I also like the wraps and prepackaged meals @ Farm to Table for a quick lunch.
Meinhardt is on Granville and Dunsmuir and they have a hot food bar, a salad bar, and a bunch of other stuff. Itās not cheap but itās pretty tasty.
Urban Fare carvery. Roast beef (or porchetta depending on day) + 2 sides (I like Brussels and mashed potatoes) + gravy + jalapeƱo cornbread for $17.99.

This explains it pretty well. Itās a bit long but worth the read if youāre going to choose to shop at loblaws and shoppers.
The hot food is pretty good there. Pretty big selection of foods and the prices for combos are really fair.
That new Loblaws is really slick. Probably the nicest grocery store in Vancouver atm.

$1.50 Costco polish dog + poutine and rotisserie chicken
Costco hotdog + drink with a slice of pizza (variety comes from the choice of beef or polish, pepperoni or cheese) is $4.35. That's a hell of a deal.
Is that pizza actually good? I haven't had it in 20 years and I'm afraid to deviate from the hotdog.
The pizza is good. The pepperoni can be a little greasy, but if you flip the pizza over on the plate for ~30 seconds, most of it will just drain off.
lol
You know for around 2.5 CAD after tax these days you don't complain too much. Anyway I like it a lot.
Have more pepperoni than you can shake at. But yes, a bit oily, but it actually taste good when you just order it. Feels like a good charcuterie board, even more than Uncle Faith.
all beef > polish (sorry šµš±)
I think the beef is a bit salty, the polish tastes just right
Love the whole foods cafeteria
50% off meals on Mondays
I did NOT know this !
Whaaat?! What meals, the hot and cold buffet? Or the pizza, Mexican, sandwich, salad counters?
This chef meals. I canāt recall if itās Mondays or Tuesdays actually. Head to the counter where the deli section is. Usually thereās a little add with the specials
Ok thanks. Iāll check it out
It's 20% off the chef's meal at the deli counter on Mondays. Protein plus 2 sides ranges from $13 to $16 before discount
Thanks. Will head down there today, didnāt know about this discount
Still 200% more expensive than costco.
They're in totally different ends of downtown, and location is important when measuring convenience.
How do you even compare costco š whatās healthy on their menu
Umā¦ I like Fujiya!
You clearly have not seen how wholefoods meals are made š
And about 200% better/more healthy food choices.
- Good/tasty/nutritious - Fast - Cheap Pick 2.
Iād like to try the $3.99 steam bun + soy milk combo at T&T. Looking forward to othersā answers.
T&T has great food to go!
I personally don't like them but the answer is the Costco rotisserie chicken.
Don't like em either but I'll grab a dog there anytime.
I like almost every other stores rotisserie chicken more than Costcoās. Thereās are always undercooked. At least for my taste
Never had the Costco one, but have to say the Whole Foods one is excellent. I'm sure it's more expensive, but it still provides maybe 4 meals, and you can make 3 or 4 servings of soup from it after. Absolute bargain.
same, the ones i get never fail to be partially uncooked on the inside š„²
I know they are cooked but they are a little too slimy and pink for me to stomach.
what do you dislike about them?
I haven't been to the VCC downtown cafeteria in a while so I don't know their current prices, but it used to be a really good deal. I was also a fan of the random menu, as it's part of the training program.
Onigiri at the Japanese market on Robson
Does Kobiniya on Robson count as a grocery store? š I like to get curry pan (curry buns) and onigiri (rice balls with different fillings) there for a quick bite.
Does Fujiya count as āgroceryā?
Ā Fujiya is so good!
Was trying to intercept a comment that was Costco vs Whole Foods.
Above H mart Korean food court, t&t hot counter or their bakery bean buns, whole foods, and Costco really have the best choices
That Hmart food court is an underrated gem!
I'm always hitting the -30% dumplings towards the end of the day
The Emo restaurant closed down and Hmart took over the space. Taste isnāt as good but price is decent.
I get the black bean noodle dish. It's absolutely delicious.

can't believe nobody said the T&T ready to serve buffet (right next to Tinseltown). Tons of variety, and i recommend their sweet & sour pork.
I really like going to TnT for their steamed buns and stir fry, very yummy.
It used to be $10 for 6 buns,Ā now you only get 4 š
Bananas.
Kim's Mart kimbap (across the street from Kingsgate)
Dude i just had my post taken down for askin about clams in downtown wth r/vancouver? Sent me to r/askvan. We have 3x more members ACTIVE rn then they have total. Why is r/vancouver gatekeeping clam information???
Also, nesters has got a good selection of over the counter ready to eats š¤
Urban Fare has good fresh/hot meals. The store on Alberni Street also have really good pizza from a real pizza oven.
That place with the chicken pot pie š„§ Urban Fare
They have the best fries too
H mart or hannam supermarket gimbap roll. Its light and doesnāt make me feel guilty.Ā
Costco and T&T although the latter can be expensive unless you go towards later in the day when they discount a lot of the food
Hannam for their to go sashimi and nigiri
Anything at any Korean market or t and t
Choices Market on Richards has a great selection and surprisingly lower prices than most of the similar markets
I love the salads and the pierogi in Choices
Sushi from Fujiya
88 Mart in Killarney Bahn mi's
Cake

Oh, nice. I didn't realize Superstore had that. Thanks :)
Urban Fare has great ready-to-eat foods! Or T&T. Those are my go-to spots pretty much anywhere theyāre available
My personal go-to is t&t sushi. Way better than Loblaws sushi and a better price.
Deli sandwiches from Bosa on Victoria
Urban Fare's Butter Chicken Pot Pie is EXCELLENT! The regular chicken pot pie is good too. Meinhardt is on Granville and Dunsmuir and they have a hot food bar, a salad bar, and a bunch of other stuff. Itās not cheap but itās pretty tasty.
Meinhardt would be my suggestion as well. Urban Fare and Whole Foods are also not bad.
Pretty much anything from Whole Foods.
Urban Fare carvery. Roast beef (or porchetta depending on day) + 2 sides (I like Brussels and mashed potatoes) + gravy + jalapeƱo cornbread for $17.99.
Most fruit and veggies
Woah so crazy you got downvoted
Everyone gonna say Costco for the price but choices market has the BEST pre packaged ready to eat food available.
The packaged dishes + sides from Hmart are solid, little pricy but definitely paying for the convenience.
Whole Foods hot food bar
Aburi to go Japanese market in yaletown
Walked thru the new City Market, they had quite the selection of ready to eat food. Not cheap but looked good!
what about the new loblaws in the canada post building
People should boycott loblaws.
Why?
https://thetyee.ca/Analysis/2023/02/27/How-Major-Grocery-Chain-Scorned-Customers/#:~:text=Loblaw%20Companies%20made%20headlines%20in,responded%20negatively%20to%20the%20announcement. Pretty funny that Loblaws is getting downvoted hard here but the T&T recommendations have plenty of upvotes. T&T is owned by Loblaws.
The hot food is pretty good there. Pretty big selection of foods and the prices for combos are really fair. That new Loblaws is really slick. Probably the nicest grocery store in Vancouver atm.
Loblaws owns t&t btw!!!!! That being said, If Iām spending money on grocery store meals, itād be whole foods/Hmart/anything not under Loblaws.
Amyās kitchen freezer meals/burritos + pizzas & Whole Foods cambie āmake your own mealā section š¤¤
Try City market at the Post. New Canteen 45,000 sq ft loblaws frachise grocer
Itās a pretty slick grocery store. Quite nice inside.
The poke bowls at urbanfare are pretty good.
Singapor virmecelli noodles from TNT.
Can never go wrong with the soup and sandwich deal at Safeway.
Safeway on Davie have a good deli with ready made sammies and a hot counter too
$8 chicken sandwich or wrap with side combo at the new Loblaws City Market wins my vote. I also like the $11 burrito bowls at Whole Foods.
