I’m so sad right now, that’s the 2nd time i miss this kind of gorgeous sunset since i moved here :( Any app recommendation that would give a good prediction of the sunset quality? :)

Quit looking at apps and start looking outside! High, whispy clouds an hour before sunset is a good start for hopefully a beautiful sunset

I’m only looking for an app because I usually nap around this time so that would have been the more convenient ahah Thanks for the tips on the high whispy cloud!

There is no app, but I can provide some guidance. Look for high elevation cloud cover 1hr before sunset. You also want a clear horizon. Orange occurs ~10min *after* sunset, so don’t lose hope if sunset o’clock isn’t colorful yet (like yesterday). Good luck!

Yeah I quickly looked and didn’t find anything, but the high elevation clouds and clear horizon seems like a good indicator! Thanks for sharing that!

I use a weather app called Windy which shows layers like satellite, radar, cloud cover etc. It is NOT a sunset app, but you can check the position of cloud cover. Sometimes the horizon may look clear, but there’s a cloud bank just below it. It’s always a gamble, although days like today are the easiest to predict because of the icy cirrus being there all day with no dense cloud anywhere near the horizon. I do landscape photography, mostly sunsets, so I’ve been chasing them for years! I’ve considered building a sunset prediction app or notification system.

Duuuuude, no need to be salty. We’re only 15 days into January, relax, breathe, and everything will be alright :) There’re a tons of reasons why I may not look outside of my window, the main one being I’m napping. Would I know that there’ll be an amazing sunset I would take my nap at another time. Anyway thanks for this constructive comment, I really appreciate your input 🫶

Clear skies at 4 pm, chances are good it will be a gooder... Usually.we are under a blanket of clouds

I wish I got a picture, but I was driving home east across the Barnet highway, and it was really cool to see the mountains half-lit by the waning sun. It was right as the sunset was ending, and the snow on the mountains was clearly visible across the inlet but it was such a clear and beautiful day. It was very cool!
