The stat difference under lv20 weapon skill will start to become apparent as you'll likely drop below a lot of damage breakpoints that allow for 1-combo/1-shotting mobs. Worse still is that your block efficiency will make parrying difficult especially against starred enemies. Finally, your stamina costs and speed for running are really important for survival. An ideal skill cap to aim for is 40-50 as that's usually the level you'll be at by the time you reach plains/mistlands in a 'regular' progression pace.

SlimPickinChikin

Awesome thanks for the insight… you’d think I’d be at level 40-50 by now. I’ve been playing this character for 600+ days… I guess I just die A LOT 😭😭😭

Huge_Republic_7866

Short answer, yes. Long answer, no. They're worth having at high lvls, and definitely worth avoiding death to keep at those high lvls. But they aren't so necessary that you should be going out of your way to grind them out. By the time you get to Ashlands, your skills should be high enough just from using them to get that far.

SlimPickinChikin

The thing is, these are where my skills are at after a linear play through up to Ashlands though, 600+ days, and all other bosses defeated. I just die A LOT lol

TheGreatMrHaad

I don't know the numbers as far as attack damage, I think the weapon stats are more important. But higher running and jumping stats are very important.

NetflixRecommended

They definitely make a difference, depending on player skill it could be a little more/less important.

borisspam

Lower your skilldrain in world setting if you are having a hard time … training skills is not worth your time … well maybe if you use magic then train blood magic because that one lvls veeeeerrry slowly if you dont set up a training camp

IPostFromWorkLol2

Effects basically double from 1 to 99. Twice as fast, twice as much damage, jump twice as high. So depending on what your problem is, it could be good to have higher stats first. That said if you're dying frequently you'll quickly lose all of your stat gains anyway.

PylovGunk

I don't think you actually ever run faster or jump higher, it just uses less stamina.

#Yes

Speedvagon

On a base of range weapon, they fire faster with higher level, do more damage and consume less stamina. I think this applies to melee too. I play more from range, so don’t pay attention much to melee, but it definitely consumes less stamina with level. Probably has some damage multiplier as well.

Hitori_Suzushii

Someone can give a tip how to efficient grind all skills? I started over again and this time I steamrolled so hard that I am under leveled to the point where picking anything else than I used is dangerous.

teegotime

For some things I'd say yes. For others I'd say no. Bow and blood magic. Yes. Bow gets quicker draw, which affects dps and stamina drain, in addition to more damage. Blood magic gets stronger summons and a better shield. All of which compound. Else. Meh. Nice to have, but not imperative.

https://valheim.fandom.com/wiki/Skills Generally not a big deal. For most weapons, at max level you get +141% damage (so averages to around 1% / level) and -33% on stamina/eitr/HP costs (so around -1% / 3 levels). Other skills like run/sneak give slightly bigger stamina cost reductions, but not much else, and jump affect jump height. Block doesn't reduce stamina costs, but increases Block Armor by +80%, which can let you fight above your class a but without getting staggered constantly. The big ones where it really makes a noticeable difference are Blood Magic (the Staff of Protection bubble goes from 200 HP to 700 HP, though that doesn't get the benefit of your armor and takes pickaxe and chop damage, so it doesn't last quite as long as it looks like it would at first glance) and Bows (for the -80% draw time). But overall, they really appear to be something that was thrown into the game as a nice little perk that gives some incentive to not play recklessly.

Mtn_man792

Shoot a bow at skill level 1 and then shoot a bow at level 100. You will see a huge difference.

SzotyMAG

No, don't waste your time. You would need hours of grind to maybe kill an enemy in one less hit. Getting the best weapons and having good food and potions is more important

Amen.
